About the author

Jakob Nielsen is a leading web usability consultant. He holds a Ph.D. in human-computer interaction from the Technical University of Denmark in Copenhagen. He is also the principal of the Nielsen Norman Group which he co-founded with Dr. Donald A. Norman (former VP of research at Apple Computer). Before starting NNG in 1998 he was a Sun Microsystems Distinguished Engineer.

Nielsen founded the "discount usability engineering" movement for fast and cheap improvements of user interfaces and has invented several usability methods, including heuristic evaluation. He holds 79 United States patents, mainly on ways of making the Web easier to use.

Nielsen has also given his five quality components of Usability Goals, which are: Learnability, Efficiency, Memorability, Errors (as in low error rate), Satisfaction.

A primeira vez que tentei ler esse livro em 2018, eu achei chato e desisti ainda no primeiro capítulo.

É um livro bem interessante e apesar de "velho" para falar de UX/UI, ele trata fundamentos importantes a medida que os autores comentam o resultados de suas pesquisas. É possível notar a influência deles no mercado atual, porque as práticas sugeridas estão sendo aplicadas, a exemplo ter um site próprio para mobile invés de ficar adaptando, a queda do conceito de fazer "mobile first" ou only além das discussões de realmente se projetar para telas e dispositivos respeitados "as leis" da plataforma que o app se insere.

Outro ponto importante para mim, foi a questão dos app efêmeros, a discussão sobre "chrome" e a "mini-ui" com desobediência a ordenação alfabéticas de itens, dando um olhar para agrupamentos por função.

Eu voto 3 estrelas nele porque primeiramente é um livro caro e apesar de ter uma linda edição, o conteúdo dele não vale tanto pra 2020. Talvez pra quem está bem no inicio tenha mais valor.

Da ex studente di Ergonomia Cognitiva, quando ho trovato questo manuale sugli scaffali de La Feltrinelli, mi è sembrato un sogno.

Jakob Nielsen, uno degli spiriti guida della disciplina da me studiata, ha scritto un’opera sull’usabilità dei dispositivi mobili proprio nel momento per me più favorevole (ero in procinto di scrivere una tesi sull’usabilità delle app per smartphone).

Questo libro fornisce linee guida principali per la creazione di siti web e app per telefonini mobili, tablet ed e-reader (focalizzandosi, per quanto riguarda questi ultimi dispositivi, sul Kindle Fire di Amazon).

Nonostante le illustrazioni riportino app obsolete (ahimè il libro è stato scritto ben cinque anni fa e la tecnologia mobile ha effettuato passi da gigante), gran parte dei suggerimenti sono tuttora validi.

Spero di acquistare quanto prima anche il volume del medesimo maestro riguardante l’usabilità del web.

I'm torn - the book itself is ok, but the translation into Polish is horrible. I was also very much puzzled when I read that Kindle (the ebook reader) is an earlier version of Kindle Fire (tablet)... I'm not sure if this is a matter of the terrible translation or the book itself. Either way: I wasn't swept off my feet.

Wow. There are so many gems in this book. Definitely required reading for all designers working in the mobile space.
