It is actually extremely smart when you think about it. I mean the Amish are very overlooked in this country. A hidden sect among the Pennsylvania Dutch that is completely self sustaining and has no need to mix with the outside world would be a terrific place for immortals to hide without fear of discovery or persecution. Would people on the outside really ever notice that they are not getting older?
They grow all their own food, make their own clothes and furniture, have very little need for money or anything from the outside world unless one of them is called to find their mate. Adam Hartzler is called to his mate and he goes on a journey to find her. His animalistic nature takes over during the hunt for her and he is drawn closer by dreams he has had of her. His kind only dreams when they are called to a mate and they share those dreams with their mate.
Adam can smell her honeysuckle smell from the dream in the air and it draws him to her. Her name is Annalise Erin Snow, she works in a bar and is a college student studying to be a nurses assistant. Adam has limited time to find her and complete the bond or eventually the animalistic nature inside will take over his humanity and he will stop at nothing to mate with her, possibly killing anyone and anything in his path to find her.
When Adam does find Annalise he has a huge task ahead of him. He is not the kind of man to just take what he sees as his. He wants Anna to choose to be with him and to open the door to loving him. He knows that if he takes what is not freely given that would start things on a betrayal and she would hate him for it. So he sets out to do whatever he can to prove she can trust him. Though it is impossible to do in the “English” world. Or as we would say, in “America”, since we haven’t thought of ourselves as English in hundreds of years.
But trust doesn’t come easy when Annalise is taken from her home and brought to his. Anna sees how women are treated by the men in their community. They are taught to obey the men in everything and treated like second class citizens. Not to mention the fact that they live in the seventeenth century as far as modern conveniences go. Anna is not used to wearing dresses that cover every inch of her body and bonnets with her hair all pinned up underneath in on hot summer days.
I could certainly handle the living conditions in exchange for immortality and a lifetime free of disease and sickness, but being subjugated like that certainly would not be worth the trade off to me. Anna takes her time deciding what she will do, knowing that refusing is basically a death sentence for Adam. She fights every step of the way and there are forces at work that nobody in the community is aware of. Especially when Annalise has dreams that don’t include Adam, but someone else.
The book is actually pretty fantastic, though it does go back and forth quite a bit on what Anna will decide. But you can really feel for her. She is extremely attracted to Adam. The scenes between them get quite steamy and both Adam and Anna are falling for each other, but the decision is heart wrenching as well. The author handles it all very well and the supporting characters are terrific.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
I love vampires, and I love Lydia Michaels, so this is the ultimate double-penetration. Rich world-building paired with a sweet love story makes this Amish romance uniquely unforgettable. And oh boy, it's hot! 5 stars! I highly recommend.
There is A LOT to unpack with this book because it was, *clears throat* insightful, smart, passionate, unique and well written. Things a lot of romance lacks now a days.
HERO: First of all, we got a VIRGIN HERO. Thats right ladies. Virgin hero. Only ever kissed one girl in his past. Adam was swoon worthy on every page. HE was completely devoted to the heroine from the moment he gets the mating call. Will do anything to have her. Are his methods always perfect? Absolutely not. Considering he's amish, it causes this beautiful drama between the hero and heroine, making the stakes of their love that much better. Since he's Amish, he obviously has outdated gender roles embedded in his brain but the heroine is strong enough to make him second guess and bow down to her.
HEROINE: She was my favorite character. Usually when heroines fight a fated mate at every turn, I get mad at them, as its incredibly frustrating to read and it always paints them in a negative light. But with this story, her fight is warranted and justified. I WANTED her to kick and scream at the hero because she has to decide to give up her entire modern lifestyle if she wants to be with the hero. She brings this beautiful energy to the story that I love in a good heroine. One thing I wish had been different was her will to continue to live in the modern world. I wish she hadn't given that aspect of her life up. No man is worth giving up Netflix. Sorry not sorry. Thats why it got 4.5/5
Safety: -H is a virgin -Heroine is not a virgin. -No OW drama -Some OM drama. Heroine sleeps with one of her coworkers before she meets the H and OM is very interested in h and causes alot of jealousy problems with the H -No seperation -Slight sexual violence: hero gets more animal like the longer he goes without claiming the h. It causes him attack her in a fit of jealous rage but he snaps out of it at the last minute. -Push and pull alot. Heroine wants to be the hero but doesnt want to give up her lifestyle to live in an amish community. She also is wary of vampires when she first hears about the transition -Ok big spoiler time: While hero and heroine are fated mates, theres a problem later down the road. Hero has a twin brother that is also connected to the heroine but he only feels her pain and suffering. The only way he can get to her is by force through her mind. This causes the hero to doubt his connection to the heroine, making him forfeit his right to have the h as his mate. Obviously the heroine gets insanely upset by this. Hero's brother does not desire the heroine in a sexual way.
And for whoever already read this, I have some theories about future books!!!
1. The heroine mentions Cain's 'secret' at the very end of the book. Could he be gay? 2. Last chapter shows the hero's dad acting funny. Did his fated mate get called or his wife?? 3. Very interested in the Bishop and Larissa's eventual book. BUT not pleased that Bishop didnt claim her and let Silas marry her instead. Not cool.

I enjoy mostly vampire stories when it comes to paranormal romance. This story takes a turn I was not at all expecting. The vampire community hides in plain sight with Amish tradition. So we not only learn about this new world of vampires but also a lot about Amish families, and what surprised me most, a lot of talk about God. That last part was the most intriguing one, and made this book a bit emotional in some parts.
It is a long book but the end makes you want to grab the next one right away. I love it when a book ends like this...
This was something else! I really liked the mix between vampire/immortal and Amish culture. It was a very interesting idea. A couple things bothered me but overall, I enjoyed the story.
Annalise was a very strong willed h. She wanted to belong and I could easily sympathize with her situation in life, before meeting Adam. After she met him, she was super feisty, and I appreciated that part of her, not accepting to be someone else for him. I guess I just wish she had been more open minded in a way. Sometimes, she was a bit lunatic, she jumped to conclusions, she refused to listen and started a bunch of arguments. I like when couple communicate better.
As for Adam, he was super devoted and caring but had a hard time understanding Annalise’s feelings and the sacrifices she had to make to be with him. They both had their qualities and their faults, and they were clashing quite a bit. I thought that the arguments happened too often and were quite repetitive at times. The story felt stagnant in the middle. They bickered a lot, both having their own beliefs. In the end they do compromise but it was an exhausting journey lol. But they could also be very sweet together, they had their moments.
“Why do I feel like I’ve kissed you a million times before?” “Perhaps it’s the universe telling you we’ll kiss a million times again.”
Overall, I did like the story. I’m also curious about Larissa’s story, which I think is the next book. I might read it eventually.
✔️Angst ✔️Virgin H / Non-Virgin h ✔️Age-gap ✔️Amish culture ✔️Possessive/Jealous/Protective H ✔️No cheating ✔️No OW ✔️OM ✔️Steam level: 2.5/5 ⚡Dub/Non con ⚡Violence/Gore
Amish vampires who are in danger of turning feral Amish as in really Amish, religious, shunning of technology, women must do this, wear that type of Amish Then there's the h, who's fought her whole life to make it this far, who's working in a bar and very close to finishing college. When this started the H came across as very sweet and understanding Then he met the H, felt the call and turned into an asshole He kidnaps her and takes her home and expects her to conform to their way of life. Her missing her exams is no big deal..... because she doesn't need her degree there. This would've worked if the h came from a similar background and actually wasn't a fan of the city This would've worked if the H was a city boy vampire This would've work is this Amish lifestyle is a throwback to the way women were once forced to live This would've worked for a lot of different reasons.....as is? It absolutely did not work for me
Dnf 79% (I only got this far because of my high tolerance for shitty books from the book club)
Spoiler tags:
1. Brothers sharing a fated mate (🤢) 2. Tstl fmc AND mmc (literally burn their lineage with fire so they can’t reproduce) 3. Religious indoctrination disguised as modesty and higher purpose SHOVED literally forced down our throat by the author 4. MMC is if Edward Cullen could imprint and was also Amish?! (way too weird) 5. Cain and Abel storyline which I avoid religiously(hah pun) but she named mmc Adam so yeah I’ll admit she suckered me 6. 599 pages for a contemporary pseudo pnr is in my opinion 300 pages too long 7. Plot is disjointed and we jump from each storyline without really a conclusion to the one previous 8. 79% in and I honestly cannot tell you a single thing of note that happened.
Amish vampires, say what!?! This book was so damn good. I can't even describe it. It was a completely different take on the vampire world and how they find their mates. This is my first read by Ms. Michael's and I can't believe I haven't read her stuff before. I seriously hope she is writing the next book right now because I NEED it!!! I think you can tell who's story will be next and I am giddy about it. Seriously, where is the next book!?!
The cover and blurb for Original Sin had me convinced I'd be reading a dark and edgy vampire story. Unfortunately, this is a definite case of "Don't judge a book by it's cover.". While there's a slight twist on the culture of this particular vampire family, there is very little about it that's dark and edgy in terms of paranormal romance. Without giving away anything (because I agreed to a spoiler free review when I accepted the arc), I think that how religion plays a part in this story was a major detractor for me. I'm not taking issue with religion, just the way it was used as a framework for this story in terms of gendered stereotypes and abusive relationships. I was disappointed to see the female characters described as strong, empowered, and revered when they had zero control over any of the situations. In fact, what little control the heroine has is given away because "love". A love that, as far as I could tell, had no basis in mutual respect or even affection. The relationship between the main characters was definitely based on blood-lust and little else. The hero's repeated abusive behavior, despite his promises to give the heroine anything she wants, left me with a genuine dislike of his character. I also took serious issue with a particular scene in the book that played out between the brothers.
Disappointing? To be honest, yes. This author is normally an auto-buy for me, but I'll be passing on this particular series.
This book will turn your expectations inside out, leave you breathless and begging for more! It's so much more than paranormal romance, it's vampires like you've never seen them. And all perfectly packaged inside an intricate story that will challenge your beliefs about love, tradition and destiny. Original Sin is the beginning of a series that holds its own amongst the classic vampire novels, but also brings a twist of creativity and originality that will certainly stand the test of time.
SPOILER ALERT TRIGGER ALERT - emotional abuse, assault and I’m going to cuss
Holy shit. In the first 150-ish pages the main character, Anneliese, is stalked, assaulted multiple times, kidnapped and gaslighted so hard I’m surprised she remembered her name. I can’t believe I finished this book. Based on the reviews I thought for sure I’d love. Who doesn’t love sexy vampires. EXCEPT THAT’S NOT WHAT THIS IS. The main male character, Adam, abuses his “mate” on the first night after finding her by BREAKING INTO HER APARTMENT AND FANG RAPING HER WHILE SHE SLEEPS!!! Like, what the actual fuck. Day two he follow that up by kidnapping her and SEXUALLY ASSAULTING HER! I am all for kink but I require CONSENT. He gaslights this poor woman and when she becomes difficult he simply compels her to shut up or sleep. Again, WTF. This is his “mate” who he literally can’t live without.
He takes her to the family farm where he complains she just needs to trust him. WHAT?! And meets his sister who talks about how he’s such a great guy and she so lucky to get him as a mate. He’s so kind, the sister says, because he didn’t force her into the bond by RAPING HER AND TAKING WHAT WAS HIS!!! Guys, this shit is bananas. The family is like vampire Amish. All the women are cowed. The men give advice like, “She’s yours. You don’t need her permission.” That is an actual quote from his dear old dad. WTF.
This book was uncomfortable and the main character was abused so badly. It was not good and I won’t be reading anymore in the series. The only likable character that was in the book was Adam’s twin brother who got a little handsy in a dream but never actually assaulted this poor woman. And he was portrayed as the bad guy. All the while, EVERYONE is singing Adam’s praises. He just the best when he’s not raping, assaulting or gaslighting you 🤮

I am not sure what the f*** I just read. It was an odd combination for there to be vampires and the Amish but I thought I would give it a try. The book started off rather interesting and I thought the plot could actually really go some places but then when Adam finally takes her home it feels like this book completely derailed. The logic of everything just didn't make sense. The main characters would fight constantly and then makeup and then fight again over the same issues again; lying to each other back and forth.
It felt so misogynistic that I was rolling my eyes and wanted to tear my hair out, using the Amish facade for immortal people was a neat idea but going full throttle into powerful immortal beings acting like the Amish and all the mumbo jumbo about God and God's plan really just turned me off. There was so much religion being forced onto the female main character I almost stopped reading the book because it started feeling abusive above and beyond the other fantastical parts of immortal people. I just absolutely hate religion being stuffed down a character's throat under duress.
When I think of the Amish I do not think of sexy so it was really just weird the commitment the author made to having her vampires be full Amish in every way except they didn't have beards. Every time clothing was brought up it just creeped me out, everything about Amish clothing is about control and "appeasing God" especially for women. It is claustrophobic and suppressive.
Alot of the choices and how the situation worked out with the main characters made didn't even make sense especially the last few chapters between the two brothers.
This books is an emotional, roller coaster of emotions that will hit you deep!! I was in awe, shock, love, lust, and everything in between. An absolute must read by Lydia Michaels.
Lydia Michaels has me hook, line and sinker. Holy moly! I absolutely loved this so much! Her words and characters completely hooked me from the first word to the last. This book will make you fall in love with a different genre of romance.
I will read this genre of romance, but it is not my go to romance read. Lydia Michaels completely got me hooked on this genre now. The way the worlds are Intertwined, the fact that fate can mean so much more than what’s at the surface. I don’t have enough words to tell you how much I loved this book and will continue to read this author every time.
Annalise and Adam’s story is one that you will never expect what happens. Their story is full of so many twists and turns, bumps and bruises. Your heart will be torn apart but then put back together by these amazing words. You need to read this book to understand how much you will come to love this book!!
Original Sin by Lydia Michaels is a paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lucinda Gainey.
This is the first book of Lydia’s that I have read and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future. I really enjoyed the twist on the normal Vampire theme with them being Amish or at least living like the Amish. I really enjoyed the relationship between Adam and Annalise. I loved that Annalise pushed the boundaries of her relationship with Adam and his family way of living.
This is the first book of The Order of Vampires series and I can’t wait to see an announcement for the second book. I am going off a feeling that the next book will follow a different couple within the community with the references that were given.
Lucinda did a great job on the narration. I liked that she used different tones/voices for each character. It really brought the story to life.
I would recommend this book if you like paranormal romance or romantic suspense.
So when I first read the blurb and saw the cover I was completely excited to read it. The beginning was very interesting and sad and then Lydia took the book in a direction I never would have thought that would happen. I just don't think it worked for me nor found it interesting. I found too many inconsistencies with this story and characters. I started to dislike them in which they almost were sounding and acting too immature. Plot wise it also didn't make sense. I know Im being vague, but Im not giving out spoilers. I also don't think the cover matches the tone of the book.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Where to start? Ok....this book left me speechless. I literally could not put it down!! This world that Lydia has created was mesmerizing to say the least. The story didn’t go where I thought it would and it sure didn’t end how I thought it would. Holy crap what a ride! It was so full of emotion...so many wonderful, twisted and gut wrenching emotions....I almost felt sick with fear at what would happen when I would turn the page! Absolutely amazing!!
I loved the Surrender Trilogy by this author and went straight from that to this series. I found this one to be very slow moving and almost stopped at 30%, but I struggled though to the end. The combination of vampires, the Amish and the "calling" sounded better in the blurb. On the fence about reading the next in the series.
Lydia Michaels has done it again. This book grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go. If you love the paranormal and vampires or immortals then this book is a must read. Loved it. And the main characters are easy to fall in love with. So much that you find yourself rooting for them. I give it 5 stars.
Vampires hiding in Amish country was not what I was expecting, but I would be lying if I said I didn't want more! This story is unlike anything I have ever read before and I can't recommend it enough.
A unique setting for this vampire series, with a fabulous heartfelt storyline,it’s depth of characters and not to mention how intense and intriguing,it all makes for one sexy read.
There are three things that drew me to this novel: erotic, vampires and Amish. This is one mixture I never saw coming.
In this new take on vampires, they live in a closed society. They rebuff all the conveniences of the modern world and live solely unto themselves. They grow and raise all their own food and live a quiet life that encompasses family and friends. When a true mate calling occurs, a vampire must listen. If they don’t, they become what history has painted vampires to be; mindless thirsty creatures hell bent on the filling their burning desire for blood and lust, one human at a time.
Adam has been called. When a vampire is called, his soul is reaching out to his mate and if he does not find her soon, he will lose himself and become feral. Adam is running out of time. He sets out into a foreign world he never dreamed of entering. If he can’t find her soon, his people will be forced to kill him. There's only one hope for Adam’s survival, his true mate.
Annalise is alone in the world. But she doesn’t let that stop her from reaching her goals. She has worked hard to get a college degree and is only weeks away from graduating. All of her past sacrifices are about to pay off. One moment she's relatively happy with the completion of her schooling, her job as a waitress and her also with her boyfriend. The next moment she is in a strange new environment, forced to comply with rules she has no understanding of. She's now living in an archaic society where men rule and women follow.
While there is a strong mutual attraction between these two people their differences are a constant reminder of how dissimilar they are. This is even before Annalise knows Adam’s biggest secret, that he's a vampire. If he can't convince her that they're fated to be together, he'll die. The problem is if he does convince her, she will need to die in his place.
According to the acknowledgments in this novel, this is the first published works of Ms. Michaels. I will have to say her all around style is wonderful and her idea behind this new series is quite unique. She has blended three elements that I never realized might just work. Her writing was exceptional, but the foundation of the story just didn’t sing to me.
I’m not sure what I was expecting. Personally when I think of an Amish type society I think that a religious base will be present. Considering the other two elements of the novel are vampires and erotic, I am glad that I was wrong. I think that that was one of my problems and I couldn’t get past the preconceived idea. I was expecting religion to pop up around every corner in this erotic novel.
The pacing in the story was also slow for me. Adam and Annalise’s relationship was built slowly and it was not until the last quarter of the book, that I was finally immersed into the plot. Considering the majority of the book was based on a look into their culture, it makes sense that it had a slower pace. Then there was also the forcing of Annalise to live in a total alien society. I had a really hard time with that. Also the male/female dynamics of this world were very hard for me to absorb.
I believe people who have an understanding of this type of culture and know going in that erotic romance and religion do not play together in this book, may enjoy Called to Order immensely. It just did not work for me.
Though I wasn't enamored with this book I do plan to read the next story in the series, Calling for a Miracle. She has already built an amazing beginning for this next story and I likely will not have the same hang ups that I had from Called to Order. In the next book, two vampires fall in love and they are set for some explosive interactions and I’m looking forward to that very much.
Called to Order is a very different take on vampires and Ms. Michaels is an author to watch out for. Her imagination and writing are exceptional. I have a feeling she's going to be a rising star!
Adam has heard what happens to a male if he can’t find a mate. He knows an arranged marriage will work (like his parents) but he’s holding out for a true mate. His beliefs are strong.
Annalise works in a bar, she’s in school studying to be a nurse. Living a frugal life until she’s saved enough to move out of her crappy apartment and upgrade her dying car. She likes the work, her regulars look after her and she looks after them.
This was a good read. Different from the usual paranormal books I read. Very strong on beliefs and the will of god (each to their own, but not for me) Most mates are found and sort of wooed, But Adam practically kidnaps her. He thinks he’s entitled, he can woo her after they are wed!! And Annalise, oh dear, not happy at all. Living her life on her own terms, she’s got a five year plan and it’s getting there, she’s even sort of dating the barman where she works (but I get the impression it’s mostly on his side) Adam’s attitude to Annalise was winding me up a little (but if your brought up with that belief, it’s hard to see it any other way) I don’t know how this is going to work! Annalise is a modern independent woman, Adam is not a modern man!!
Well written, very descriptive. You got the sense of urgency from Adam to find Annalise, you also got his frustration, but you also see him fight his dark side. He doesn’t want to turn into a vampire. He’d rather his family put him out of his misery. You rejoice with him, when he finally finds her, and you want to roll your eyes at his high handiness!! You want to scream your frustration out at Annalise, her life has all been taken away, and at the sheer arrogance of the males in Adam’s village!!
I liked the idea of the dreams linking them together, Adam being able to track her, getting more information on her. I liked the idea that Annalise was involved, but hers were darker, did she sense Adam was almost ready to turn?
Twist at the end, Oh My God, did not see that coming!!! And for a minute there, I almost didn’t want to finish the book (it wasn’t looking good for Adam and Annalise!) And it also leaves it open for a few other members to get a happy ending. And I really hope they get their books.
HAIL TO THE NEW DEVASTATINGLY DELICIOUS SERIES.. THAT'S GONNA BE THE NEW TRENDING VAMPIRES OR IMMORTALS 💗😍😍😍😍😍😍. WOW. Feeling so overwhelmed and full of so many emotions and feelings. As if I was the one that has just travelled to another world & come back. The order of the immortals demands that when they are called, they have to find their destined mate and bond. Otherwise they would be forever lost, their humanity snuffed out by the raging demon that'll take over in the thirst for finding their mate. But how does he do that when he has no clue where she is or how she even looks. Yet he sets out on a journey to do just the same. Life's not been easy for Annalise. All she's ever wanted was to belong, a family to call her own. But she has to suffer in loneliness. Yet she tries to do her best working job and studying at the same time. Until one fine day a stranger enters her workplace and changes everything for her. She can't stop thinking about him. But she doesn't know anything about him yet there is this undeniable attraction. Series of events happen and then.. Boom... Her life gets spinned completely off its axis. What will she do now. How will she adjust to her new life and her ever changing conflicting feelings towards Adam. She can't give up her way of life and living for him but she can't deny her feelings either. Oh my... THIS JOURNEY WAS TOTALLY SWOON-WORTHY, FILLED WITH SO MANY TWISTS AND TURNS I JUST COULDN'T READ FAST ENOUGH. Adam.. Though, he's a complete sweetheart and truly husband material. The way he loves her not only because of the calling but truly loves her for her. THE UPS AND DOWNS THE TWISTS AND TURNS HAD MY HEAD TRULY SPINNING. THIS BOOK IS SO NOT ENOUGH.. I'M ALL THE MORE EXCITED TO READ THE OTHER CHARACTER' STORIES. As the hints left back in the chapters has me trembling with excitement. OH MY.. I CANT WAIT FOR MORE OF THIS SERIES. THIS ONE THOUGH.. MUST READ AND ONE OF THE TOP FAVORITE OF THIS YEAR IN PNR. LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS ONE. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I read the blurb and knew what to expect. What I didn’t except was what I read. This book is so much more beyond that blurb. It is phenomenal! Adam is an honorable noble man. He has high morals scruples. Adam also knows first hand what happens when one ignores or waits to long to find their mate. When he finds her he uses all his will and power to stay in command of his senses. Even when that restraint is detrimental to him. But he is about to be tested and put to war with all the qualities he holds dear. Annalise is truly a fighter. I thought she had extreme inner strength. Even when she couldn’t see it. Anna is tough and strong and perseveres. She is also compassionate and kind hearted. Even though she doesn’t show it to the world because of being so jaded with it. The connection that is between Adam and Anna is a real live entity. There is something there that is indescribable. It’s not only the fact they are mates. It transcends that. I loved how Ms. Michaels wove the old world with the modern. And how she kept the integrity of each character while allowing them to grow and expand into their own unknowns. I also loved the descriptions the author gives starting from each character to the traditions and everything beyond. These vivid details brought the written words to life for me. Even the dreams taking place are incredible! What a captivating new world and series Ms. Michaels has created! Each character is complex and intriguing. There is so many layers to them all. The storyline and plot is like something I’ve never come across before in vampire books. Or any other kind of book for that matter. It’s original with a new concept to it. This story is gripping and intense. It’s dark mixed with light. Filled with passion and lust. Love and loss. It’s sexy and sensual. It’s about family and sacrifices and trust. And most especially it’s a beautiful love story that’s complicated and truly unforgettable! There was nothing I didn’t love about Original Sin. It was absolutely breathtaking for me! I’m so excited to read more from this stunning series.
Wow! This is a new to me author and I’m stunned at how much I loved this book and I’m trying to figure out how I’ve snoozed on this author!
This is definitely not your typical vampire book. They don’t even consider themselves vampires unless they lose their soul from missing their calling. What’s a calling? It’s when they are called to find their mates. The other halves of their soul. They are limited on the time to find them so it’s imperative they not waste time once it starts because once it’s too late there is no turning back.
This is how we come to learn about Adam and Annalise. Adam belongs to the world of the Order and Annalise belongs to the outside. The outside is the world as us mortals live.
If Adam wasn’t living on borrowed time then I have no doubt he would have courted her properly in order to win her over. Unfortunately that’s not what happens and Annalise hardens herself to Adam. I can’t blame her. He’s a man regardless of what world he is from. He sucks at explaining things. It’s all “me man you woman do as I say” with him so he doesn’t know how to handle a headstrong woman like Anna.
There is foreshadowing for a large part of the book that leads into a massive reveal about 3/4 of the way into the story. I’m not even going to attempt to describe or explain what wrench was thrown into the mix. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it.
I have so many questions I would love to ask the author about just to pick her mind because I can see this series going a couple of ways. Regardless there is no doubt that the Order needs to rework their rules because what happened at the end of this book crumbled one of their rules and blew it to smithereens.
If you are a JR Ward fan I really think you will enjoy this book.
TBH when I first started this book, my eyes rolled so hard b/c I thought I tripped and fell into a Christian read and that’s just not my thing. Sorry, not sorry.
But y’all this book was so freaking good!!!
The story line is so captivating and really takes you to another world.
Let’s see if I can do it justice.
Anna, she’s trying to get through life, working hard at school to become something big so she can get a better car and apartment. For now she’s working at the local bar and just chilling. She starts having weird dreams and ends up drawn, oh so drawn to a patron of the bar.
Adam, he’s something else. He’s an Amish Vampire. Yes you read that right. First for you? Yea first for me too. No sparkles and crazy city escapades, he’s living on the freaking prairie. He also starts having weird dreams and gets the permission to seek out his future destiny.
Anna is defiant. Adam lives by the rules. Anna has a big heart and wants to help. Adam wants her to be his and obedient.
This is not just about Anna and Adam. There is a big twist that you may start to guess at as things unravel. And it’s just not about their story. There is another side story that I need to know more about...ahem...Adam and Caine’s sister and the big boss man!!! HELLO!!!! Like I need that story yesterday.
This was my first time reading Lydia Michaels, I can’t say I will go and read her full back list but I can say I will be reading the rest of this series.
Thank you Valentine PR and Lydia Michaels for an Audio code. Although I prefer Dual POV narration, Lucinda Gainey performs this genre perfectly!!!! I can seriously listen to her reading any vamp novel I decide to indulge in.
Audio ARC received and I decided to leave an honest review.

My Original Sin Review . . .
I have read a lot of paranormal vampire stories but NEVER a Amish vampire story. You'd think that combination wouldn't work, but it so does. It's the perfect way to keep them segregated and for them to not have to move every few years so people don't realize they don't age.
All the good ones are either gay or Amish-said no one ever.
Writing it this way with the Amish, is also a great way to show our downfalls as a society with our excessiveness, and our quick ways to judge and look down on others that are different.
They mocked his clothing and only recognized their differences, hardly noticing their similarities.
For Annalise, she not only has to overcome the differences but also has to face her personal spiritual demons.
"No, our Amish culture is part of who we are. It's the veil that protects us from the rest of the world."
Though for Adam being Amish he's also sheltered and drinks the kool-aid of what he's been taught. With Annalise, he's forced to question his beliefs and learn to compromise.
"Because I need choices. Women have opportunities where I live."
I adored the story. There were so many layers of this story that keeps you reeled in and waiting to find out what happens. This story has also set up for this series to continue. I can't wait to find out what happens with Larissa, Cain, Gracie and also Jonah.
Can't wait for more from this series and from this author.
