The last night of summer is only the beginning.

Skye wants to meet the boy who will change her life forever. Seth feels their instant connection the second he sees her. When Seth starts talking to Skye at the last beach party of the summer, it’s obvious to both of them that this is something real. But when Seth leaves for college before they exchange contact info, Skye wonders if he felt the same way she did—and if she will ever see him again. Even if they find their way back to each other, can they make a long-distance relationship work despite trust issues, ex drama, and some serious background differences?

Teen favorite Susane Colasanti returns to the alternating-voice style of her beloved debut When It Happens in this Serendipity-inspired story about summer, soul mates, and the moments that change our lives forever.

Initial reaction: Read this earlier this year and wasn't really taken by it because the relationship proceeded far too fast to really process. I still think Colasanti struggles to identify her audience, as some subjects are mature for presentation in this work, but the writing suggests that it's aimed towards a younger target audience.

Still debating on the rating, but I'm guessing 2 stars at this point.

Full review:

Quick review for a relatively quick read, though I'm writing a review about it months after the fact? (Figure that one out.)

I read this book in about 45 minutes one afternoon, and one thing I can say is that Colasanti's books are incredibly easy to move through most of the time, because she's dialogue heavy and the prose moves in a streamline, so the stories are easy to move through and understand. However, from a developmental standpoint - for character and plot, that's not always ideal. Such is the case with "All I Need".

The blurb on the digital copy I read from my library said this was "The Notebook" meets "Serendipity". You guys know how I feel about comparisons - in this case, I'm not touching that one. I'm just going to talk about the book.

This is the story of the dual perspectives of Skye and Seth. They meet one summer and it's like *boom!* Instant connection, they have a chemistry together that's undeniable and they're convinced it was for life. (Which I was like, "Wait...what?! How did...when did that happen?)

I wasn't so convinced by this, especially on the fact that they didn't even know each other's last names. Due to some circumstances (which on Seth's part was too easily transitioned), Seth isn't able to meet Skye for an arranged meeting and they're separated for a time before they're able to get together again. Once they reunite, it's like they were never apart - they hook up, they spend a lot of time together as boyfriend/girlfriend, and there are some minute storylines running parallel to the main relationship as conflicts are thrown their way - personal and relationship-wise.

I had a hard time connecting to any of the characters here, and it's likely because the story moved just that fast. It was an easy read, I'll admit in part because of the rolling dialogue and transitions, but I couldn't really connect enough to it or believe in it to smile or otherwise find enjoyment in the relationships here. I like chick-lit, slice of life, teen reads typically and Colasanti has had narratives I've liked in this vein in the past. With "All I Need," it was a hard sell, to be honest. Plus, with some of the themes explored here (going to college for the first time, sexual relationships, etc.), it was all too lightly touched upon to have much impact. I've had some issues with this in some of her previous narratives, but there were some books that worked better with it whereas ones like this, it didn't fit very well. Likewise, it's hard to know whom to recommend this to since it deals with subjects that are more mature, though lightly touched upon, but is presented in a way that may seem like it's for a younger audience. My guess is that for maybe a reluctant reader or someone who's looking for something light and fluffy with some touch and go conflicts, it might work, but it still doesn't really give you much time to enjoy Skye and Seth's relationship and connection for what it provides.

Overall score: 2/5 stars

1.5 stars I liked the other Colasanti book I read, but this one feels too short and sketched in. A whole year would pass by in a matter of a couple dozen pages, and everything felt too neat and unrealistically wrapped up at the end. None of the themes of separation, long distance relationships, first/real love, etc. are really explored in much depth. A disappointment in so many ways.

Skye just wants to meet the boy of her dreams, but the bonfire is the same every year - no one interesting ever comes to it. Seth wants to get over his ex-girlfriend and meet a girl he can learn to give his heart to again. When they meet each other at the bonfire, it's love at first sight. Spending the next 24 hours together, they make plans to meet the next morning and exchange contact information. But then something comes up and Seth is unable to make it. He heads off to college and Skye heads home from the beach, both wondering about the other and longing for them over the course of the year - even while dating other people. The next summer when they both return to the beach, Skye and Seth begin a romance for the ages, but can it survive ex-drama, school issues, friendship problems and each of them holding back one last part of themselves from the other? Can they let go and be transformed by love and begin a brave new future together?
This book made me nauseated within the first 10 pages. That is a very unfortunate record to hold and I was highly disappointed. I should have known from the summary that it was going to be a completely NOT my kind of romance book. I expected for it to be starry-eyed in the beginning, but also that the main characters would develop and mature over the course of the book. Instead Skye spends the whole book fixating on how perfect Seth is and how much she loves him, how they're meant to be together. Until they have a big fight (because he's keeping things from her) and she acts like a spoiled brat, and Seth acts like a complete dick. They both get into relationships with other people, but spend their time comparing them to their supposed 'soulmate' and basically just using them. The better parts of the book are during Seth's first year of college, when he's not yet with Skye. She is just as immature before the relationship as during it, honestly speaking. When things begin to sour in their relationship Seth applies for an art internship and Skye applies to good colleges, not necessarily really close to Seth. She's accepted to NYU and really considers going. But then she and Seth make up from their fight and Skye goes to the not so great college really close to his. And of course he gives her a promise ring, promising to love her forever. Gag me now please! No seriously, GAG ME.
Not much really happens through the course of this book, other than a really superficial and unhealthily obsessed relationship between two very selfish teenagers. Never once does Seth really acknowledged that he's keeping things from Skye to 'protect' her, but in the process is enacting a parent-child type of relationship rather than an equal, romantic one. Oh yeah, and there's some sex and they talk about how great that is a lot for the middle third of the book. Except when Skye starts acting like a princess, expecting hotel rooms every time (even though Seth is painfully poor and she is a privileged girl, who takes it for granted) and being disgusted by his dorm room. I did like the depiction of Seth's parents and their fight to have a real relationship and stay together, even in the face of his Mom's illness and his Dad's business failing (an 80s themed roller rink that he started in honor of his romance with his wife). It was painful, beautiful and true - everything Skye and Seth's 'romance' was not. Sometimes their friends are amusing, but mostly Skye's BFFs Jocelyn and Kara who are just as shallow as her, are more annoying than anything else. Seth's roommate Grant is just a self-righteous douchebag most of the book. And when he does change it doesn't really matter. Overall, this is a book that reads like it's for twelve year olds. But the subject matter is inappropriate for anyone under 15 or 16 (unless they don't mind sex and college talk that they won't relate to at all). This book was a disappointing mess, with a message to girls that seemed to be that it's okay to give up everything for a guy as long as it's 'true lurrrvvveee." Spare me, please. Not recommended to anyone who has a brain not made of bubbles, and any sense of feminine romantic equality/pride.

VERDICT: 0.75/5 Stars (For Seth's awesome parents and their roller rink only)

All I Need is another summer hit! This book is going to be flying off the shelves when it comes out. I love Susane's books. She writes with such emotion that when you are reading the book you can feel everything the characters are feeling. I laughed and I cried reading this book. Everyone teen girl dreams about her summer love and where it is going to happen and when and with whom but when it does happen they are not prepared. I laughed when I read the blurb because summer loves are the things we girls look forward to. We want to meet Mr Right and on the beach is even better.

Every summer Skye thinks she is going to meet Mr right on the beach. She wants to meet her summer love and she can't wait to meet him. But every summer the days go by and she can't seem to find him. She knows he is out there but she is not sure where he is and if he will come in time for her to have a summer romance and maybe continue after summer. That is until this summer with one week left she meets her summer love and she is in insta love and knows that they are destined to be together. The only thing is when they are supposed to meet on the day he leaves for college something happens and Seth is not at the place they were supposed to meet.

All year Skye is thinking about Seth and she is determined to find him because she is miserable without him. What Skye doesn't know is that Seth is looking for her to and he is determined to find her because she is his true love. He knows he is meant to be with her because he can't get her out of his head and no matter how hard he tries there will never be anyone else for him. College is hard for Seth and he doesn't get to spend the entire summer at the beach so when he finally does get there he starts looking for Skye. They finally find each other and the things they have to go through to be together is hard. They start to wonder if it is worth it and whether or not they will stay together. The distance and the fact that Seth is in college and has more freedoms than Skye drives a wedge between them. Will they survive this summer fling to be more? Or will they walk away and remain friends?

This is another summer read that will take readers by storm!

I know the author intended this for a younger audience but the dialogue was very middle school

“Cool, dude, awesome, no way” and there was even a “bomb diggity” and “reschedge”

Also the amount of “I can’t live without him/her” “I would die without him/her” like PLEASE SHES IN HIGH SCHOOL AND HES A FRESHMAN IN COLLEGE you should be more worried about how youre gonna learn to do taxes 😭😭

I'm going to be completely honest right away....I read 2/3 of this book and then I just skimmed the last part. By skim, I mean I glanced through to see what happened but that's it. I could not get into this one at all.

Skye spends the summers at her beach house. Every year, there is a party on the beach and every year, Skye hopes to find "the one". Now, I remember being a teen and going to a party hoping that there was some cute boy there that I could flirt with. However, I never expected to find "THE ONE" because I was so young.

Well, lucky for Skye, this summer she meets Seth and there is an instant connection. It was love at first sight and all that stuff that most of us scoff at. They spend the next couple days together but don't exchange any information like their last names, addresses, where they are even from, etc. This struck me as kinda funny. I mean, even in high school, I would introduce myself with my full name. Getting to know someone usually includes finding out where they are from. Skye and Seth spent a whole evening and day together and never even talked about where they were from?

The last day, Seth and Skye are suppose to meet up and exchange all that information but Seth never shows. So Skye goes back to high school (her junior year) and Seth starts college. But neither of them can forget the other.

I had a hard time dealing with Skye during her junior year. She compared every other guy to Seth and seriously couldn't move past him. He was her soulmate and the only one for her. It got really annoying and I felt she was very childish. She certainly did not strike me as a junior in high school.

Seth was a little better and I liked reading about his first year in college. I remember all those wonderful things you must deal with...the loud music through the walls, the skanky roommate (or in this case, the guy next door's roommate) who had sex while you were still in the room, the hard choices of having to decide your major, etc. I related to Seth a whole lot more than I did Skye.

The next summer (this book spans 3 years), Skye and Seth meet back up at the beach and are still madly in love with each other. This time they exchange all the important information and make it official. After summer, Seth visits Skye....and that is as far as I got. During my "skimming", I did see that there was one (and only one) conflict/fight that the two of them had but other than that, it was all too fake for me.

I would have a hard time recommending this book because 1. I didn't enjoy it at all and 2. I am not sure what age group it should be for. It is way too childish for anyone older than 15 (in my opinion) but deals with more mature matters (such as sex, etc.) that is too old for anyone younger than 15 to read. I guess if you like "fluffy" books that have a happy ending, you will probably like this one. It just was not for me though.

All I Need is a serendipity story about love, fate and soul mates.
Skye is a hopeless romantic who's in love with the idea of true love. She wants to be swept off her feet and this summer she finally meets the guy who can make her feel this way.
Seth is a broken mess after his girlfriend breaks up with him on graduation day no less. He hasn't been ready to put his heart out there again, that is till he sees Skye at a beach party and everything became clear. There are some people in this world that you have to be willing to take a chance on.
Two priceless and magical days together, Seth and Skye have an instant connection that consumes their entire being, but before they could meet up one last time, something gets in the way and they part before they even exchange contact information.
Two months past, then six and Seth and Skye try to move on with there respectable stand-ins, but something is missing, something that can't be replaced by empty feelings. A year later, at the same summer beach, they search for each other again, and fate steps in giving these two young hearts a second chance at possible. But young love is never quite that easy and the complications of a long distance relationship starts to take it's toll and tests what it means to be soul mates and what it takes for true love to really last.

You know, I actually enjoyed this book. I've read a lot of Colasanti books before and while I find the energy and passion in them to be plausible and sweet, I always thought of myself as someone who may be a little to old to enjoy them the way I'm suppose to. And yet, I still find myself coming back to Colasanti latest release time and time again. I think it's the fact that when I read her books, it makes me feel like a love sick teenager again. Colasanti has this brilliant and insightful way she captures being young and stupid and how messy life and love can be and I'm fascinated with how accurately she nails it and how fast I'm back there, remembering that once upon a time that was me.
Now, this would be the part where I would usually go off and start saying that this book is way to fast and that you can't have'true love' feelings for someone you've only known for two days and it's unrealistic to feel the same way a year later and believe that if the universe wills it, that one day these two hearts will meet again and live happily ever after. I'd say that it's irrational and impossible but the thing is, I don't know that it is. Who am I to say that it can't happen? Which is why I loved Seth and Skye's story, they make me believe in the power of love and all the possibilities it comes with.

Seth and Skye are such an easy couple to get lost with. They have such a lovely and adorable chemistry. The beginning stages of relationships are the most fun and exciting times in a young couples life. It's where your feelings are magnified, where a week apart feels like a million years and your heart breaks into a thousand longing pieces till your in each others arms again. This is the kind of love that makes you want to sink into and never let go. It really was beautifully conveyed and one of the sweetest things.
I saw a lot of myself in Skye which is why I connected with her right away. I was such a hopeless idiot back in my teen days, waiting for one days and the perfect someone to make my stomach drop, my breath hitch and my pulse race. Skye is a very intense character that wraps her entire world into feeling this way. I think it's a little unhealthy to devote your ever thought to someone else, but when your eighteen and meet the man of your dreams it's hard to feel anything less.
Seth is wonderful character and I love that's he's passionate about art and music and the way he feels about Skye. But the demands of work, school and a long distance relationship is hard to balance and yet through it all he doesn't give up on what's most important.
Together, Seth and Skye make falling in love look effortless and feel undeniable but with hard work and a strong commitment they also work out the trials life throws at them, coming out stronger then ever before.

All in all, I really enjoyed Susane Colasanti latest novel. It has some really irresistible moments, the writing and the dialog is terrific and these characters will take you to that place where being young and in love makes you feel magical and alive. It's the perfect summer romance for younger adults and for those who are just as hopeless as Seth and Skye and even me. All I Need melted my heart and made me smile and sigh, and really, what more can I ask for while basking on the beach on a warm summer day. Well done.

Ah, love. Sweet, instant love at first sight. How I totally doubt your existence. Lust at first sight? Attraction at first sight? Sure. But love?

But Seth and Skye know instantly that they have a connection when they meet at an end-of-summer cookout. But due to outside circumstance, they only get to spend two days together before being torn apart, without having exchanged contact info. Commence the moping. And the constant talking about each other to friends, who are kind enough to not say "Dude, you knew the guy/girl for less than two full days! Shut up about it already!" Because that's totally what I would have said.

But the following summer, they run into each other again...and this time they know to instantly exchange details. Now begins the conflict: a long-distance relationship, the issues related to distance, and a small fight. But all ends well, because it wouldn't be a romance if it didn't.

So I disliked this book a lot. The dialog was far too simplistic, and the rest of it wasn't quite up to what I consider good YA fiction. Too stilted and not nearly complex enough. But that's not the entire reason I disliked the book. The ending...that's why. Ah...the ending...

So, yeah. I've never been a huge fan of Susane Colasanti, but I usually find her books decent and enjoyable. This one was just plain horrible, however.

"How is it possible to feel like you've known someone your whole life when you just met him yesterday?"

You guys don't know how totally I'm into Summer Love. I always smell the beach and the bonfire and everything that is summery whenever I get to read summer romances, plus I missed reading Colasanti's work so everything about this book excites me.

The story started good with Sky meeting Seth on the beach and their two-day summer romance started. But due to life circumstances, they parted ways. A year or two passed, they saw each other again, and continue the thing thay started a few summers ago.

It was a nice little story but I needed more frameworks. The characters, Seth and Skye are good, but I wanted to see more from them, more than what was already on the surface. As much as I enjoyed uncomplicated stories like this one, I think that story rolls off too fast. It's really too fast. I could’ve wanted to cherish every little detail about Seth and Skye's romance but unfortunately days seem to roll off so fast on this book.

The story has a lot of potential to diving into deeper issues. For instance, they are somehow in a long-distance type of relationship but it seems like they easily just get into it without much of a struggle. Their too different life status - Skye comes from a wealthy family while Seth comes from an average one. The side issues of Seth’s parents and Skye's best friends at war was also mentioned but it seems like through all of this we all skimmed it up instead of really giving us readers more info about it, making me feel that it isn’t enough. I just wanted a more elaborate flow to the story and not simply skimming up parts of it because that’s what it seems to be happening as I’m reading it – everything is skimmed.

Despite those rants, I enjoyed Seth and Skye's relationship, maybe it’s because I'm growing up and a bit old for these types of stories that's why I'm asking for more, but those little happy moments still tickles my heart and still appreciate it. Plus I love the Serendipity-like twist of the story.

All I Need may not satisfy my every craving and expectations, but if you’re looking for a fast and sweet summer read, pick this one up.

All I Need is a book that I have been dying to read. Not only are the cover and synopsis gorgeous, but it totally radiates a Spring/Summer feel. Unfortunately, I didn’t like the book. I’m not going to even rate the book, because I found it a little painful to read, and it’s not fair of me to judge it when I only got about 50 pages into it. But I am going to share my thoughts on it with all of you.

My first major complaint with All I Need was the relationship between Seth and Skye. They meet in the first chapter and decide they're soul mates by the second. They knew each other for a whole two days, and then Seth goes off to college without saying goodbye. Any normal girl..or guy for that matter…would get. over. it. But, no. Skye is moping around 2 months later about a guy she knew for about 48 hours. Obviously Seth will come into her life probably a little later on in the book…but I honestly didn’t even make it that far. I didn’t find Skye..or Seth..to be very good role models. I wouldn’t want my kid reading this book and thinking that’s how they should act.

Another thing that bothered me is that I was really confused by how all of the teenagers acted and spoke to one another. I’ll be the first to admit that a lot of teenagers are freakin annoying. Not all of them! But some. It hasn’t been that long since I was a teenager…and trust me…I annoy myself thinking about it. But most teenagers don’t act the way that they are portrayed in this book. I thought that it was very exaggerated from an adults perspective.

I didn’t get very far in this book, so I cannot critique the middle or the ending. Things might have picked up later on, but I could not bring myself to finish. I think that younger teenagers may appreciate this book, but I would not recommend it to adults at all.

The romance and characters were so contrived, and I didn't believe their soul mate status in the first two chapters, so nothing in the rest of the book made me care about it at all. Full review at TheYoungFolks.com: http://bit.ly/13YZbJg

When I said that Colasanti’s Something Like Fate was one of the blandest books I had ever read, I had yet read this book. It was completely juvenile and boring.

Personal response:
I really enjoy reading Susane Colasanti’s book. All I Need is a great book. There are a lot of plot twists to the story but overall it is an amazing book. I relate to some of the things Skye goes through during the book. It helps me to enjoy the book if I can relate to the characters.

Plot summary:
Skye, like any other girl, wants a real love connection. She even dreams about her being with her soulmate. At her summer beach house in Sea Bright, there is a beach with a little sand dune where Skye always sits. On the last day of summer, Seth notices Skye sitting on the dune. They both continue to stare at each other but not approach. When they finally approach each other, they instantly have a connection. They talk all night but do not exchange their information to text each other. The next day, Seth leaves for college but does not meet up with Skye like he said he was going to. A whole year goes by where Seth and Skye do not talk or see each other. Both are thinking about each other and Sea Bright. The next summer, Seth and Skye bump into each other on the boardwalk. Seth introduces Skye to his dad. After the introduction, they walk around and talk a lot. Finally, Seth asks Skye on a date. Ever since that day, Seth and Skye have been dating, but it is not as perfect as she imagined it would be. Seth goes back to college the next fall, they text, call and see each other on the weekends. When Seth has to get a job so he can take Skye out on dates or do fun things, it gets in the way of seeing each other. They find time to see each other, but it’s not very often. Seth applies for an Art internship for the summer but that means they will not be able to see each other. He does not tell Skye right away, but when he does they have their first fight. They do not see each other for a month. When Skye tries to bring a care package to Seth, he is sitting on the couch with his ex-girlfriend, Karen. Just when Skye thought things were getting better between them, she kisses him. Skye does not know if she can trust Seth again, but she tries because she loves him and knows he does not have feelings for Karen. In the summer of his internship, Seth is unable to go to Sea Bright to see Skye. When he realizes that he might lose the love of his life, he goes to Sea Bright, finds Skye, and gives her a promise ring.

Characterization:
Skye is the main character who is looking for love. She does not understand why her friends get more attention than she does. When she meets Seth, she is different. She is more positive about situations and very happy. Of course, every relationship has differences but that does not stop Skye from being the loving person she is. She sees the good in every situation and that helps them to continue their relationship.

Seth is also the main character who is very heartbroken over a girl but when he sees Skye he knows she’s the one. He gives her a chance and talks to her. They instantly have a connection and Seth becomes happier. Throughout their relationship, he makes a few mistakes but that does not stop him from loving her. They overcome those obstacles and are happier than ever.

Setting:
The setting takes place in Pennsylvania and at Sea Bright during modern times. I think Sea Bright and Pennsylvania are very important in the story. Sea Bright is where Seth and Skye met. Pennsylvania is where they both live and where Seth goes to college. If Sea Bright and phone technology were not in the book, Skye and Seth would have not met, talked, and stayed together during the time of Seth going to college.

Theme:
The theme of All I Need is to never give up on someone you love. This is shown throughout the book when Seth does not tell Skye about his internship. Skye knows she cannot give up on Seth because he is doing what he loves and wants. Seth and her are perfect and she knows she cannot lose what they have.

Recommendations:
I recommend this book to teenagers and above because of the language content and because it is more of a girly romantic book. I think most girls will be able to relate to Skye and what she goes through.

*4.5 star rating*

I've actually read every single book by the masterful chick-lit writer, Susane Colasanti. This woman actually knows what she's doing in terms of having readers fall in love with her writing, and I know that I'm not the only one who is. After seeing her at BEA (but not being able to go up since they didn't allow anyone else to go) I've realized how much of an extraordinary author she is and how I look up to her love-filled stories. All I Need *sings John Legend's song* is exactly what I was looking for—a quick summer read that I can go through before bed and still remember when I wake up in the morning.

You all want this, you need this book in your life. Although there is a whole lot of insta-love, which negatively impacted me and took out .5 of the perfect rating which it almost received, it was almost perfect. Almost. The serendipity premise and cuteness was totally my kind of thing, and I kept gushing and smiling to have my own Seth. Why do I always have to end up being jealous like there's no other fictional fish in the sea who are single? *cries* It's actually such a deep, real book that doesn't let readers down with some sad, dramatic occurrences that pop out of nowhere, you know?

"A part of me that's been comatose since my heart was destroyed wakes up. When she looks at me with those unreal sky-blue eyes, I know that everything is about to change." (Hardcover, page 7)

Before I even get started, I want you to really analyze that quote above. IT'S PAGE SEVEN AND THE GUY IS ALREADY IN LOVE. Don't you think that's a little cheesy and cliché? After their initial meeting at a party, serendipity puts Skye and Seth together, and they fall in love at first sight. That's also something that I call: insta love, which is okay in certain situations, but this was a little over exaggerated. If you dislike instant romance, also known as love at first sight in modern society. Yes yes, we all predicted it to be fantastic and beautiful, as well as the long-distance thing kicking in, but I was a little frustrated with the fact that they kissed an hour after they met at the party. This rarely happens in reality, but I guess that I pretended that it did to make the story look better.

It's your typical love story set in a summer beach town, where Skye is rich and owns one of the houses while Seth struggles to earn money, especially as he worries for his future. He enjoys doing art but feels that there's no living for him if he pursues his dreams. Skye, on the other hand, is younger but has the same ambition for love as he does. Of course, the long-distance thing is an issue, but will they make it work?

I was hoping that they'd make it work, because obviously the romance was the main point of the book and Sketh were such a memorable couple. You know when the emotions are real and you long for some kind of relationship? Yeah, in that case, the some kind of relationship is theirs. I loved them together—it's like a relationship that has small issues but the two partners never see a problem between each other. And the ending? THE PROMISE RING? I was ready to die.

"But tomorrow will come. We'll go our separate ways again. Except this time will be different. This time we'll stay together. Tomorrow isn't goodbye. Tomorrow is only see you soon." (Hardcover, page 90)

Emotions? Emotions. As I constantly mention throughout each and every single Colasanti review, she writes with passion. Readers are unable to stop trying to feel what the other characters feel, especially their pain as they struggle to keep their relationship floating above and beyond the typical expectations. They both were very memorable, risk-taking characters who wouldn't change anything of their lives and relationship together. I'm squealing right now and I need some kind of chill pill or NOVELLA TO CONTINUE THEIR FANTASIES TOGETHER FOREVER AND EVER.

All I Need is your ultimate summer read that you'll keep by your bedside for ages cause you know you can turn to it again and again. Colasanti's writing this time is the same as always, fun and devouring, and it's so easy-going that no trouble sleeping afterward from all the drama involved. All you need is a copy of this book, make it hardcover because from all of the re-reads, it'll surely be worn out. I SHOULD'VE READ THIS SOONER, AGH! Save it for the summer, though!

I was so excited to read All I Need. I saw Susane Colasanti speaking about it at the Teen Author Carnival and got to meet her at BEA, and she was great. And All I Need sounded like the perfect summer read. But it didn't end up working for me - the characters annoyed me, and their relationship was too instalove-y.

The story starts out with Skye and Seth meeting at a beach party at the end of summer. They see each other, and instantly know they're soulmates. Yup. Finally, a novel with instalove. I've been trying to find one. Anyways, they spend two perfect days together being soulmates-y and whatnot, but never exchange phone numbers or, say, last names. So when Seth has to leave a couple of hours early and doesn't show up in the morning to say goodbye, they have no way of contacting each other. Very unfortunate. Both Skye and Seth spend the next year moping, unable to move on from their epic two-day non-relationship. And of course, they look for each other in their beach town the next summer, and then fall in love again. The novel proceeds to describe their long-distance relationship and the non-obstacles they face.

I'm sorry for sounding so incredulous of their love and whatnot. But really, that was the problem, for me - I just didn't buy into their relationship. Call me heartless, but I found their feelings for each other melodramatic, and I never saw enough of anything between them that would justify them getting so serious about each other. (Serious enough for Skye to decide to go to college in the same city as Seth instead of going to a better school she got into. Don't get me started on how much that bugged me.) No one thing is fully explored; the novel just kind of follows Skye's and Seth's relationship, and I didn't see the point. I appreciate that the author tried to cover such a long time period, but that meant that so much time was skipped that I didn't see their relationship develop in a natural way. I also feel like the point of such a long time period would be to see the characters grow over time, but they didn't seem to change a whole lot.

Speaking of the characters and character growth... ugh. These characters annoyed me to no end. Skye is in love with the idea of love, and basically centers her whole life around that. She is whiny and annoying and does not act her age, at all. Seth is slightly better, but it also bugged me how hung up he is over some ex that broke his heart a million years ago, causing him to no longer believe in love. I just wanted to shake him and tell him to get over himself. Together, Skye and Seth are even more annoying - they bond over their pretentiousness and opinions on how much society sucks and how much they miss the good old times, then go on to call Seth's roommate, who does basically the same thing, pretentious and annoying. Point being, I wanted to slap both of these characters throughout the novel.

Susane Colasanti's writing flows nicely, and All I Need is a quick read, so that's something. But I couldn't get myself to care about the story because nothing is ever fully explored, and the characters and romance annoyed me to no end. I think I'll still give Susane Colasanti another try, though, since so many people seem to love her - any recommendations which of her books I read next?

All I Need PJV Quickie: All I Need is a snapshot of two lives where they intersect for a brief moment in time and then meet again a year later. There’s love, lust, and heartache, sprinkled with a dash of luck for good measure. And while it was a perfectly nice story, it just didn’t hook me.

Review:
Skye is 17 and wonders if she’s ever going to meet “the one”. Every year her family spends summer at the beach, and every year she vows to meet someone special. This year, at the final party of the summer, she meets him. As soon as their eyes meet, she knows he’s the one and they spend a few perfect days together before summer is over. But when he doesn’t show up on her last day, she goes home thinking she’ll never see him again – they never got the chance to exchange information before she left.

Seth has been hurt before, badly. It took him a long time to put his heart back together, and he knows it’s still got a few cracks in it. But he knows Skye is different the moment he meets her – he feels a connection he’s never felt with anyone before. But as chance would have it, he ends up missing their last day at the beach together and goes off to college without knowing how to contact her.

What happens next is a story of hope, missed opportunities, second chances, and young love.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here’s the thing about All I Need: As I said in my PJV Quickie, it’s a perfectly nice story, but didn’t knock my socks off. To be honest, it didn’t even twist them a little. The characters were nice enough, but I didn’t feel like we ever got to know them besides what was on the surface: two average kids who met and fell in love but real life got in the way and they had obstacles to overcome.
I kind of felt like there was plenty of opportunity to delve into some of the deeper themes in new relationships, but that didn’t happen; we just kind of skimmed along without digging very deep (or at all). There was plenty of angst, but it was more like listening to your kid sister natter on about who likes who in the 6th grade and why Clarissa spent the winter dance crying in the bathroom – you listen to be polite but you don’t really care. There is also some stuff going on with Seth’s parents and with Skye’s BFFs, but it felt like ‘filler’ and was not essential to the story.
One thing I did like were all the 80′s music references and I’m curious to know if a teenager reading All I Need would get the references.
Recommendations:Fans of “first love” or “second chance” stories will enjoy All I Need.
MY THOUGHTS
I've read many books by Susane Colasanti before, and enjoyed them. So, when I saw this book at a used book sale, I picked it up without seeing what it was about. While I enjoyed her other books, this book was most definitely not for me. If I read the synopsis beforehand, I would've known that. This book was just way too cheesy.
This book is told in dual POV between Seth and Skye. The two meet over the summer for one night, but before they meet again, Seth unexpectedly leaves early. They both wonder if they will see each other again or if the other felt the same way about that night. When they do see each other, they'll try to make it work, but it is much harder than either of them expected.
This book wasn't bad, but it's just not my kind of book. It's hard to get me to like a romance, and this book had almost everything that I don't like in romance. First of all, I don't believe in the idea of soulmates. Since that seems to be what a majority of this book is about, it was hard for me to get into it. And as the two go hand and hand, there was insta-love. Not a fan of that.
To be honest, this book was just not Susane Colasanti's best. As I mentioned, I've read many of her books and this one is by far my least favorite. Again, this was mostly because of the romance, but the characters and story also just fell flat.
IN CONCLUSION
I know I'm making this book sound horrible, but this really is just not my kind of book. If you believe in soulmates, this might be more of your cup of tea. It's a really quick contemporary read, it did have it's moments, but I couldn't look past the romance. This is definitely not my favorite book from Susane Colasanti.
A girl named Skye and her friends were hanging out at a beach party. Sky met a boy named Seth. Soon enough Skye and Seth started hanging out every day. They both started falling in love with each other, but they kept it to themselves.
Summer was over, and Seth had to go to college. They made a time and date to say their goodbyes and share contact information. Seth woke up and his parents were already ready to go. He didn’t have time to say goodbye to Skye, so he wrote his address and number on a piece of paper and put it at their meeting spot. Later, the note blew away. Skye walk down at the time they were supposed to meet and waited for him. Day turned into night and still he didn’t come. Sooner or later she gave up and went home. Skye waited for Seth to come back, but years have went by and he still didn’t come.
Susane did an amazing job on righting this novel. It always makes you wonder what is going to happen next.
Then one day, at a beach party they seen each other. Skye and Seth started hanging out every day, just like the old times. When it was time for him to go, they didn’t know if the long distance was going to work. Could their long distance relationship work?
My overall view of this book is it’s a really good book. Susan, keep up the good work!
For some people,this was a really quick read.
For me it was too. I read this back (maybe in 2016?) and it sucked.
It’s better then “Now and Forever” but it also doesn’t raise the bar.
There are some reviews out there that cover all points of why this novel sucked.
So I won’t say a lot.
This is...okay.
Why?
The Romance (was a little) believable.
Maybe if this was 300+ pages I would give this three stars.
Maybe even four.
The cover is spot on.
But the plot sucked.
And I am not kidding.
In less then 100 pages,the romance is starting to get on.
And in less then 200 pages,they are already dating?!
I read “I Believe In A Thing Called A Love” by my second favorite author Maurene Goo and that book rocked more then this.
The book was like 320 pages (I wish it was 400!!!) and the heroine Desi Lee tried to win over her love interest. The Romance was spot on. Each moment was heartwarming. Everything fit together,and it went by quick for me but the plot still made sense.
However this was not the case.
Anyway,point made: the ending was cliche.
Skye gets a Promise ring from Seth and he claims (why is the last chapter in Seth’s POV?!) that he can’t wait to see what happens next for them.
Oh boy.
AH! Another adorable book by an adorable person. This book was unique in that it explored the dynamics of a couple that was already together. One was in college, the other still in high school; this meant they really had to work to keep their relationship strong. I really enjoyed how the characters had to struggle to stay together, because it became a much more realistic story. This book definitely had warm fuzzies, but at the same time offered true relationship - and life - advice.
It is easier with the right person. A good test of a relationship is how well you both deal with challenges. If one person is more invested, it shows. If you're with the wrong person, it feels like too much work. But if you're unhappy more than you're happy, it's not the right relationship for you.
This isn’t my favorite of Colasanti’s books, but I definitely enjoyed it. A perfect summer read!
In the book All I Want, author Susane Colasanti tells the love story between Skye and Seth. I LOVED this book, the romance along with frustrating heartbreak made the book hard to put down. I also love a happy ending, and this book did just that for me. All I Want was published in 2013, and I have read several times since then. Skye and Seth meet one another at the last beach party of summer, as they made eye contact throughout the night, they finally met face to face. Sparks were instantly flying, and they both knew they had something real together. Skye and Seth spent the next few weeks of summer together, going on dates and getting to know one another. But when the summer comes to an end, and Seth has to leave for college while Skye completes her last year of college, there are a lot of thoughts going on between them. What they had was something special, but was it simply just a summer fling? Will Seth and Skye find their way back to each other after the summer is over and reality hits them, and even if they do, will they be able to maintain a long distance relationship? I believe Skye and Seth are very well developed, the dialogue Colasanti uses really helps to bring the two characters together. I also think these characters would be easily related to, especially for couples going through long distance relationships. The plot is neither predictable or far-fetched, the author is able to keep her readers intrigued while creating a modern love story. All I Need is a lot like other romance books i've read, however, this one is by far my favorite because I grew to love the characters. Susane Colasanti writes a lot of romance stories, so this goes along with her genre and what she likes to write. The theme of All I need is to not lose hope in your love, and if you want it badly enough you'll work for it. I would recommend this book to mostly teenage girls, because its a "chick flick" in book form. Overall I highly recommend this book to teenage girls who want a book with a happy ending about love.
2.5/5 stars.
The plot of the book is... Two people falling in love instantly. That's pretty much all I got from it. The characters all seemed to have one or two traits, and I didn't really identify with Skye or Seth all that much. I read the entire book waiting for it to get more interesting but it remained pretty straightforward and flat. A decent romance, but nothing super special.
A cute YA Book about finding your soul mate and in an almost "love at first site" kind of way. Although the book was sweet, I personally wouldn't read it again as it felt too simple and overly fast paced. However, if you are looking for a quick YA read, you could easily power through this in a few hours.
Con este libro podríamos decir que he hecho una lectura de lo más peculiar, porque lo empecé por la mitad y seguí hasta el final. ¿Y por qué? Pues porque quería ver con que iba a encontrarme. Si esa mitad final me hubiera gustado, por supuesto, habría ido al principio y habría leído el libro entero, pero visto lo que encontré en esa mitad final... doy gracias por haberlo hecho así, y por haberme saltado numerosos párrafos. Haberle dado una lectura completa habría sido perder mi tiempo, así que, aquí está, en la casilla de abandonados. Es uno de esos libros insípidos y dramáticos en los que no merece invertir tiempo.
Definitivamente, Susane Colasanti se va de mi lista de autoras que quiero leer. Ya leí por encima su libro El novio de mi mejor amiga, y este libro ha sido mi broche final con ella. No quiero más de sus novelas.
All i need es una novela irritante, que juega con el drama para darle un toque de vida que de otra forma no tendrían sus páginas, y a mi me parece triste tener que usar ese recurso para darle movimiento a una novela. Comprendo su punto, esas ideas suyas sobre que el amor a distancia no funciona, pero sus protagonistas me han caído demasiado mal como para querer acompañarlos, compadecerlos, o cualquier otra cosa.
Susane alterna los dos puntos de vista, así que sabemos lo que hace Seth, ya en la universidad, y lo que hace Skye. Y también, como les afecta esas despedidas constantes.
Para Seth, vivir separados resulta difícil pero no porque eche de menos a Skye, si no porque hasta entonces, siempre tenía a mano a sus chicas, y no es fácil conformarse con palabras, teniendo alrededor a una ex que le quiere meter mano. Por otro lado, le encanta vivir separado de Skye porque eso le permite centrarse en sus estudios, en su carrera, y así no tiene que estar regalándole momentos de su vida cuando podría estar haciendo algo mejor... forjarse un futuro. Para Seth, Skye no es importante, Skye es un impedimento a la hora de lograr sus metas, y eso que no es Seth quién hace un viaje de cuatro horas en coche atravesando el país para verse. Seth es un niñato y un capullo. No me ha gustado nada. Creo que a Susane se le da demasiado bien crear a protagonistas masculinos aborrecibles.
Para Skye, Seth es su sol y su luna, su centro, su todo. Ella vive pensando siempre en Seth, añorando compartir con él todos los momentos de su vida. Cuando no está con él, le está añorando, y cuando están juntos, está sufriendo por la despedida que se avecina. Pero solo una cosa le da esperanza, esa promesa de verano. Ambos prometieron volver juntos a la isla donde se conocieron. Pero esas promesas quedan rotos cuando Seth le explica que ese verano se va a ir a un internado, porque un verano juntos no es tan importante como su futuro. Skye quiere demasiado a Seth, hace que su vida gire demasiado en torno a él. Siempre que va a tomar una decisión, la hace poniendo a Seth como una prioridad, en cambio, Seth, hace lo contrario, Skye es la última a la que tiene en cuenta a la hora de tomar sus decisiones.
Ambos están demasiado lejos, ¿verdad? Pero no es ya una distancia física, sino una distancia emocional. Ella le quiere demasiado y él demasiado poco.
A Seth no le soporto, es un capullo egoísta y desconsiderado, que solo piensa en si mismo, que solo guarda reproches para Skye, que coquetea con su ex novia y que se deja besar en un juego tonto, que no soporto a las niñas ricas y que sale con una, y que se queja de que Skye ya no es todo alegría y lujuria. Él no hace nada por sacar esa relación adelante, no cuida a la persona que jura amar, es un auténtico capullo, un idiota, y encima, se cree que puede quejarse de que Skye no le ria todas las gracias? ¿Acaso le parece que Skye entrega poco? Él nunca está ahí para ella, nunca escucha o valora sus opiniones, y jamás se plantea ir a visitar a Skye, porque como él es el universitario, es su derecho que sea ella quien mueva el culo para verle.
Skye es una chica buena, una joven dulce y entregada, luchadora, que siempre perdona, que le entrega el 100% de si misma a un chico que es un idiota con ella. Skye debería aprender a disfrutar de su vida, de su familia y amigos, de cada instante, sin sentirse amargada o triste porque Seth no esté ahí. Skye me ha caído bien y me ha dado pena, duele ver lo mucho que sufre por Seth y lo infinitamente difícil que le parece su vida sin él. Skye es la única que sufre por amor, es la única que valora a la persona que tiene al lado, con la que pretende compartir su vida. Skye debería replantearse las cosas, luchar por sus sueños, ir a Nueva York, dejar a un lado a Seth, y encontrar a alguien que de verdad la merezca, que piense en ella y luche por ella. Skye debería buscar ese equilibrio entre el amor y su vida, porque se puede ser muy feliz sin compartir las 24 horas con un novio. Lo importante no es pasar cada instante juntos, si no disfrutar de la vida al máximo, beberse los momentos, ser feliz con una misma.
El final es precipitado y muy azucarado, y me parece difícil de creer. Pero no es por eso que no voy a leer lo que me falta de esta novela, es porque Seth es un capullo y esta novela no se merece que la saque de mi lista de abandonados. Además, todo lo que he leído, no me ha gustado nada.
This was a fast, pretty cute, and usual long-distance-relationship story. It was full of clichés, but it was still quite entertaining, even though the main characters made me roll my eyes from time to time.
