I enjoy books by new and indie authors, mostly of a sci-fi theme. Since Paranormal Summer was supposed to have some science fiction elements, I decided to give it a shot and I am glad that I did. This is a book that is crafted with skill and an honest ambition to make readers aware of how normal the paranormal really is. It is written so well that the fictional elements become plausible to the point that I look at the world a little differently after reading it. Jillian, Sonya, and Ryan each have character traits that I could identify with. I could see any of them as being a neighbor or someone I encounter in town. I remember many years ago being in a play called Dark of the Moon that was set in the Appalachian Mountains. Guyberson's book gave me that same sense of supernatural forces at work among mountain folk. Being a witness of the main characters first discovering their abilities and then learning to develop them with skill makes it all seem like something anyone could do. This is definitely a book by an up-and-comer. Read it and follow Guyberson's works to make sure you don't miss a thing.

Tried to read this a couple of days ago. Couldn't get past 3% because I couldn't get the writing; it felt very choppy and poorly edited to me. Not... smooth. Does that make any sense?
