Ms. Cheevious in Hollywood

by Lisa Jey Davis
Enjoying Every Moment

When Lisa Jey Davis (aka Ms. Cheevious) decides to tell her story of working in television as a single mom in Tinsel Town, she does it with loads of mischief, a ton of chocolate and an ounce of vodka. If you found yourself face-to-face with a very handsome and famous a-list actor, smiling and shaking your hand back stage, or you snubbed a flirtation from the lead singer of the hottest band in the U.S., not knowing it was him - you might just do the same.

Welcome to the world of Ms. Cheevious. A world where nothing is sacred or predictable. In Ms. Cheeviousland, life is a farce - at least when it's not so damn serious.

In this hilarious compilation of stories, Lisa Jey navigates the minefield of her past for tales from her divorce (which unleashed her on an unsuspecting Hollywood), her family, relationships and an enviable turn working in television. Whether she's hiding from an interested suitor in a Vegas casino, her son is mistaken for a homeless guy, her best friend is forced to scrub in to help choose her boobs' implant size, or she's so tipsy, even a strip club turns her away, Lisa Jey always seems to get herself into the most ridiculous situations. The innocent mistakes she makes, even when launched into the big, bad, single Jungle in the City of Angels, are laced with tales of a beautiful bond with her two boys and tender lessons for all single moms gone a little wild. Ms. Cheevious in Hollywood - My Zany Years Spent Working in Tinsel Town showcases the razor-sharp wit, frankness, and delicious turns of phrase that have made Lisa Jey Davis the one and only Ms. Cheevious.

Courageous, candid and clear. I think that most people who escape an abusive relationship look for something familiar, safe and stable. Instead, Davis took her children and reinvented herself in on one of the most frenetic, draining and potentially caustic social environments imaginable: Hollywood, and created a new life and two new careers for herself and her two boys. In Ms. Cheevious in Hollywood, she tells her story fully, honestly and completely, presenting every detail in naked honesty.

What I loved so much about Ms. Cheevious in Hollywood is that the author doesn’t hold back. She. Went. All. Out. And it was awesome. She’s been through so much and refuses to let it bring her down. Reading what she has achieved made me really proud. #womenempoweringwomen *fistpump

A Single Mom Conquers Hollywood

During the 1990s the whole country enjoyed watching Sarah Jessica Parker and her circle of girlfriends deal with single life in NYC. Now there is a zany memoir that takes readers to Hollywood. (I was given an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and I was glad I had a chance to read it.)

Lisa found herself raising two sons as a single mom in Orange County, but she did not let her dream of working in Hollywood die. Improving her appearance and diving into networking the Hollywood scene, Lisa managed to establish herself as a music producer with hard work and lots of play.

Of course she explores the crazy L.A. dating scene with as much courage and creativity as she approached landing free-lance production gigs--including learning hard lessons by dating a married man. She even tried Internet dating before it was the thing to do and has some very funny stories to tell. There's a bit of "language" that might make a few readers cringe, but it was all part of the overall story—so that’s okay with me.

Most of all, the book makes clear that Lisa is a MOM. Don't let the parties and antics fool you, her most important role is mother, and she learns to make that work, too. I admire anyone who maintains a sense of humor during a turbulent time in their life, and Lisa's courage shines through as she honestly relates her story. Lisa also gives down-to-earth advice to working mothers.

Be sure the read about Lisa in the extra information at the end of the book. Lisa made a decision to be proactive after losing her sister to cancer and chose to endure major surgery. She says she’s writing another book about "Getting Over Your Ovaries”. Lisa’s positive outlook and outrageous humor are bound to make women laugh in the face of devastation. Keep us laughing, good job, Lisa.

Newly divorced? Single parent? Thinking about diving into (or back into) the dating game? Looking to break into your dream job in Hollywood (or anywhere else, for that matter)? Then read this book and let a woman with a huge heart, brass balls, and serious guts tell you how she did it! Frank, insightful, and laugh out loud funny at times, MS. CHEEVIOUS IN HOLLYWOOD is a romp of a read!

MS. CHEEVIOUS is the true story of how Lisa Jey Davis gathered the courage to leave an abusive relationship and chose to chase her dream of working in Hollywood while raising two boys on her own. You may not agree with all of her choices, but you can't help but admire her grit, determination, and optimism. I don't often read non-fiction, but I truly enjoyed this peek inside the mind of a woman who succeeded against many odds and kept her spirit, sense of humor, and sense of herself intact. She's inspirational - perhaps the highest compliment I can give.

Kudos, Ms. Davis - I look forward to reading about the further adventures of Ms. Cheevious!

The Ms. Cheevious in Hollywood memoir was an inspirational great read. Lisa Jey's account of her struggles as a divorced single mother and determination to succeed in "Tinsel Town" helped her enthusiastically achieve her dreams and then some, all while keeping her integrity and values. I learned so much and it gave me the resolve to keep reaching for the top. This is a MUST READ for all those who think they can't get out of their rut after a divorce and looking for that extra boost to keep going. Thanks Lisa Jey for sharing your journey with us!

This is such a fun read from a lady who has overcome some serious hurdles but never let that stop her from being driven, determined and fun. Reading about her adventures is a laugh, and reading about the challenges she’s got through is inspiring.
