31 Keys to Possessing Your Promise

Rate this book
God had given a promise to Abraham that his descendants would possess a vast land (see Genesis 12). As time passed, it began to seem less possible for the descendants of Abraham to receive their promised inheritance. They spent years in slavery in Egypt until God raised up Moses as a deliverer. As they journeyed from their place of bondage to their land of inheritance, it was necessary for them to defeat the armies that inhabited the land they had been promised to be given as their possession. In Joshua we read that the children of Israel defeated thirty-one kings and in order to inherit their promise. From the names of those cities we will consider our own keys to inheriting God’s promise. From the definition of these cities we will draw out a thirty-one key devotional journey to our inheritance. Some of the keys will involve what we must overcome or gain victory over; other keys will be principles or characteristics that are important for us to embrace. Together we can discover and use the keys, enabling us to possess our promised inheritance.

Once I read the prelude of the book, it let me know that it was about Joshua and the 31 cities/nations they had to conquer and take what belonged to them--walls fell down of Jericho, to receive the promise of God. We can also today, receive the promises of God by following similar principles and practices shared from the Old Testament with Joshua. He also adds things from New Testament from Peter, Paul, and Jesus.

Instead of being written in chapters, it is keys, to bless those who read it. My favorite keys were the first one (overcoming the darkness) which I allowed fear and finances to hold me back from the promises of God, that leads me to the other keys to join the right side and overcoming the enemy's deceptions. I will know my victories and no longer allow the enemy to deceive me into believing that I am incapable, see it as impossible, and beyond my reach. As the author mentioned in key 6, "if we have the mindset of defeat, we will come out of the battle defeated" (paraphrased). I have to choose to fully commit to the calling that God has assigned me to do. I am loving the first 10 keys, and still have 21 more to read and grasp its meaning. I also learned more about the battle and defeat of Jericho with Joshua and Caleb, also the struggles of Israelites such as idolatry, in a new light.

Moreover, I have to learn to rest in the Lord. Otherwise if we become all that we are and all that we do (some of us will get burned out maintaining it all), we miss being effective and productive for the sake of maintaining from Key 25. I have to be mindful of this one since I can become too busy and say I am doing it for the Lord, but not necessarily spending the valuable time I need to with Him by just resting!

I will share some of this devotional book on my DYRP Midnight Hour virtual ministry via phone/online on December 28, Friday, at 8 PM Central, teaching on "Fighting Temptations; Accountability".

This book is a true God send for anyone earnestly seeking the move and direction of God in his/her daily walk. These "Keys" provide much needed thought provoking insight into how to identify and defeat the enemy of our souls. The book also includes a study guide which I intend to delve into as I continue on this enlightening journey with the Lord. This book is a book that will remain in my personal library for many many years to come.

Enjoyed writing this devotional. I pray it is a blessing to many.

I continue to be honored and humbled by the response to this devotional. It has been used in churches for teaching and training. It has been shared on air. It has had a much larger reaching impact than I expected.

I enjoyed this devotion and was glad to have the opportunity to review it. Loved the fresh perspective on the journey to the promised land. My only wish is that there would have been a bit more interaction with the reader in the daily application aspect.

Based on Joshua 12, this devotional offers some great insights into God's relationship with His people as well as with us as Christians. The reader embarks on a journey of discovery throughout each of the 31 Keys. Chapters are well organized and are the perfect length for personal devotion, small group study or Sunday School. A real blessing to read!
