Dr. Meghan Collins is a successful pediatrician in Atlanta. She is happily married and well-respected in the medical community. She is satisfied with her life, but haunted by a decision she made years before. When she meets Dr. Pierce Morrow, a Nobel Prize winning scientist, he tells her about his dream technology that allows clients to return to a pivotal point in their past and make a different choice, take a different path. Meghan finds the possibilities irresistible and there is no doubt in her mind what her pivot point will be...
If you're not familiar with my books, I write mystery-suspense novels. I am LDS (Mormon) and so are some of my characters, but I have loyal readers from many different faiths. My goal is to engage the reader in my books. I want to make them laugh and cry and worry and dread the end.
Most of my books are set in the fictional town of Haggerty, Georgia - which is loosely based on my grandparents' hometown of Headland, Alabama (the most wonderful place on earth). Each book has an ample supply of romance, suspense, Southern hospitality and even recipies!"
I actually loved this book in spite of its shortcomings...
Having always been very interested in dreams, I was hooked from the beginning. Having had a few very realistic dreams myself, I do find the plot plausible.
It was a departure from BBG usual book, but that wasn't a problem for me. In fact, that might've made me like it more.
The worst part of this book was the ending or lack thereof. Even with a sequel on the way, I feel there should have been a bit more closure and tying up before just ending it.
I always look forward to a new book by Betsy Brannon Green. She has been a go-to author for me since I read her first novel.
"Pivot Point" is self-published and really needed a good editor, or at the very least a good proofreader, who could read it with a fresh eye. The typos, which included a multitude of missing and added words, are more than distracting, as they interfered with the flow of the story.
I agree with many others who say the ending was abrupt and unsatisfying, even if it is a set up for a sequel. (I haven't read anything official to indicate that is the case.)
The characters didn't feel real, even when not in the dream state. I kept reading, thinking I would begin to like Meghan and become invested in her quest, but the character annoyed me more than anything. I have found that can be a good thing in some other books, due to the storyline. It just didn't click for me in this book.
I am looking forward to reading her newest book "Proceed with Caution", to hopefully read the kind of Betsy Brannon Green book I enjoy so much.
I have mixed feelings about this book. As much as I loved the plot line (and it was original and very crafty) the ending was jarring and not very ending like. I just kept thinking... really? That was the ending.
I'm hoping for a sequel...
Also as much as I liked the main character in the beginning, I kinda hated her by the end. That probably makes me a terrible person as she was dealing with an addiction but she was horrible to her husband and just insane. Again, hoping for a sequel to even things out.
Great story though. I always enjoy reading books by Green.
I feel bad giving this 2 stars because Betsy Brannon Greene is my very favorite. I had a hard time reading this book. I kept putting it down and only finished it just incase it could redeem itself in some way. It didn't. The dreaming was interesting, but the quick addiction and instant live loss for her entire life was stressful. The editing and errors felt like a kick me while I'm down thing. I would mention the ending if there was one. Not reading the next one :(
In the past, I have enjoyed reading books by Betsy Brannon Green. Not so with this one. I was uneasy about the whole premise of this story to begin with and then it just became ridiculous. The story does not even really end! Don't even get me started on the terrible editing....too late! It was horrendous. I have never (repeat, never!) read a book with so many errors in it.
Interesting concept. Scientist is able, through dreams, to take you back to some "pivot point" in your life when you wonder what would have happened if you had made a different decision. A concept I think we all wonder about sometimes. I wasn't really keen on the style of writing or the story. The main character ends up loving her dreams more than reality and her reality was good to start with. I'm assuming the author wanted to provoke the reader and make them see that dreams can never be reality and what you think might have happened in dreams might not have happened if they had been reality; however, she never makes this point. Never even alludes to it. i came away very dissatisfied. I was screaming at the main character "are you crazy .... can't you see....?" That might be exactly what the author wanted/intended but I wanted some hint of it in the book.
This book is WAY BEYOND anything I expected! It is INTRIGUING! It is AMAZING! It is FANTASTIC! It is ABSORBING! It is STARTLING! And all those other words that mean it is SO GOOD! Meghan has a chance to go back in time and choose a point...a pivot point...and make ANOTHER decision from the one she originally made. Through dreams she can see how life would turn out had she made that different choice. The story that unfolds will keep you captivated! I LOVE Betsy Brannon Green's writings...she is one of my favorite mystery writers with her Haggerty Series. But this suspense story of hers is definitely at the top of my best reads for the year! She leaves us hanging at the end so I hope she writes a sequel to let us know what happens next!
I loved the idea of this book. A chance to redo a decision through a dream, just so you can see what might have been. The writing could have been stronger, but Green still has the ability to entertain in spite of that.
This is the author’s first self-published book. Her other books are through an LDS company, so it limits some of what could happen. However, with this book she hits issues that might not have been popular with the LDS genre (that doesn’t necessarily mean it is risqué, just different).
There is supposed to be one more book to finish the story and I am unsure how it will go. With the LDS books it was easier to predict, without it I am not sure which path the author will choose. If you are a fan of her other books, you will most likely enjoy this one.
So many mixed feelings. I love betsy's books. And the idea of going back to make a change in our life to see how things would have been had you made a different choice is very interesting (one of the reasons it got a 3 star). However I was upset that Meghan could just dismiss her husband so quickly because of these dreams and then to say she hadn't cheated on him when she is kissing the other guy. I just kept yelling that the dream was only what could have been and was made up to be perfect.... At the end she was just annoying still running after a dream that wasn't real. I realize that the dreams felt so real but she is an intelligent person who knows they aren't reality. I will end up reading the second book because 1. i love betsy's books and 2. i have to see how this ends.

Oh dear. I am a huge fan of Betsy Brannon Green and her books, but I must say, this book let me down. The main character was so shallow-- she only cared about her dream world and not the life she had built with her husband. She would give up her life to be with Joey and then just leave her husband in the dust. Like what on earth?? I would say this is more of a 1, but because all Brannon's other books are so good I decided on a 2. I'll probably read the sequel, but I highly doubt it'll exceed my expectations.
I am a huge fan of Betsy Brannon Green. However, Pivot Point, left MUCH to be desired, like an ending, for example. I think the story line was quite good and not typical for BBG. But, by 3/4 of the way through, I hated the main character and just wanted her to screw her head back on. And the ending, or lack thereof, was really hard to take. I hear there is a sequel, but there still needed to be something to make you look forward to a sequel. It didn't leave you hanging at all. It was just like slamming you into a brick wall. The end.
I'm glad this was not my first Betsy Brannon Green book or I wouldn't be very anxious to read another one. This story was too unbelievable to enjoy, and it ended without a resolution. It was full of typos like it hadn't been edited properly. I kept reading hoping it would work itself out, but it was just unsatisfying. I loved her Haggerty, Georgia series! I look forward to better stories from this author.
Up until is one, I've loved everything Betsy Brannon Green. But I was sorely disappointed with Pivot Point. I really enjoyed the first half of it and was liking the plot until the main character became unlike able, unreasonable, and frankly, unstable. I'm usually pretty lenient when it comes to novels, but this was drove me up the wall. I'm glad some people liked it, but it was not for me. I am very disappointed. If you're going to read a Green novel, I'd suggest Hearts in Hiding.
This book made me crazy.....I found it completely unrealistic that the main character would just simply give up her husband, marriage, life etc...for a dream. The end was completely unsatisifying and I found that I didn't like Meghan at all. The idea behind dream therapy and a person's piot point was interesting and the only reason the book is 3 stars and not 2
Wow! Betsy Brannon Green can write scifi! :) This rather unique story is about regret and addiction, then flips into action/adventure. I wish I had known that it's the beginning of a series before I started it, as very little is resolved at the end. I'll be anxiously awaiting book 2.
This book was interesting. It is a lot different than any of Betsy Brannon Green's other books. A woman gets addicted to her dream family and looses track of the real world that she actually lives in.
Honestly I did not like this book at all. It was disturbing on so many levels and it ended abruptly. Granted the author may be following it up with another book but as it stands I would never recommend this book.
Definitely not my favorite. I usually enjoy her writing; not this one. The writing was very stilted and the ending left me feeling very unsatisfied, like the issues in the story were not addressed satisfactorily.
I usually like Betsy Brannon Green, but not this one. No ending and the typos just went on and on. Her writing was not even up to par. Unless their is an amazing sequel coming out, this book was not worth my time.
