Jahzara, Honey and Tomeka are best friends til the end. The three of them would die for each other and have always had each other's back. They each desperately wanted better lives and were willing to work extra hard in order to attain it. Relationship issues in their personal lives bring the girls closer together than ever before- especially when Jahzara brings a business proposal to the table. Betrayal, lies, jealousy and murder is only the beginning of what they have to overcome. Will they succumb to it all or will they rise above it and find their way out?
A quote came to mind as I finished this book "Three people can keep a secret if two if them are dead".....
The book was fast paced and full of drama but it was just a little far-fartched to me. Everyone seemed a little a too intelligent to be manipulated by one person the way they were. I also felt that the story was rushed at times.
Honey's ass could have a spin-off book all her own since it seemed like she had issues for a long, long time, her story screams prequel to me, they could tell the story of how they became friends and all the things they witnessed Honey do when they were younger!
Hopefully, the sequel will let us know what happens to Imran, Jahzara and Quin and if Honey gets what she deserves.
Who needs an enemy when you have a 'pretend' best friend who has been there since you were both kids? Who has been secretly plotting against you? Learning your every move? What you like and dislike? Hidden jealousy and creating despair for you. This book was good. Can't wait to read the second one because this one definitely closed on a cliff hanger. I have to know what will happen next!!!
This was my first read by Shan,I was really impressed with the storyline and how she kept you interested. A few editing errors but nothing to make you want to stop reading... In fact, I didn't want to put the book down.
What I really liked was that the characters were well developed without being overly wordy. The story had drama, deceit and touch of thriller undertones.
Will definitely visit the rest of the series..
BTW....there is one character that I just H_A_T_E....... but as we all know...those are the characters that often make the story breathe.....
Wow! Be careful who you trust...the ones closest to you could be the very ones plotting on your demise!
Honey is a piece of work. Just manipulative and conniving...I'm looking forward to reading about her reasons for doing what she does in the upcoming books. I can't wait until karma bites her in the ass.
Tomeka was a character I didn't really feel a connection to but it was still unfortunate to see her go like she did.
Jahzara is my girl but man, she makes some dumb decisions. But hey, what would this book be without them?
It was a pleasant surprise to see Tamar make an appearance in this book. I miss his crazy ass! The 'Rozalyn' series were the only other books I've read from Shan. But just like she didn't disappoint then, she didn't disappoint now. Shan, you did your thing! Can't wait to finish this series...#teamimran
A drama-filled book from the beginning to the end,This book had it all drama, suspense and a lot of oh hell no moments.I can't wait for part 2.Shan did another great job
This was crazy! Jahzara was a fool from the jump in this one. First up in the club when she was sitting on bricks. I understand that she didn’t know what to do with them but still she could’ve done something else with her time instead of that. Then Honey, what a nightmare. It’s so many shady chicks out there like her it doesn’t make any sense. Same goes with Tomeka, she was a follower who could be lead by the blind as long as she felt loved. The smartest thing she did was stab up her man after he put hands on her.
Imran should’ve walked away from Jahzara instead of going at Quin the way he did. It wasn’t worth it for him to get in the middle of it when he didn’t know for sure who Jahzara wanted to be with. I can’t believe Quin would even track her down seeing he was the one to put the end to their marriage. I’m betting he wants to know where his bricks are but still, after three years he should’ve chopped that up to spousal support, LOL. Plus she has my favorite Tamar in here, I need to read up on him and Rozalyn. Now I have to see what happens next.
As the saying goes, if you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all.
Edit March 6 2103: Having been reminded recently that people actually read these reviews, let me add that this may be an interesting book for book club discussion about the relationships among women. Warning, the language is often vulgar and the situations very "street" but if you like urban fiction and look past the vulgarity to the characters and the rather bizarre sequence of events you may have different opinion than I did.
I had a hard time listening to this book. I was irritated. I'm not a fan of the story, I don't think your closest friend could pull that many tricks over on you without you having sometype of suspecion. I don't it maybe one of those things were you never know until it happens to you. I mean but even the relationship that Honey and Tomeka started having in the book was akward to me. How can you see someone that's like your sister and take it further. I found myself fast forwarding through some parts. Save your time.
Oh, what drama! This is a fast-paced read that will surely hold your attention! Fascinating and interesting characters! Shan is vastly becoming one of my favorites; I am definitely looking forward to reading the next installment in this series ... I know it is going to be a ... No Holds Barred!
I read this twice & am still floored. Honey is BONKERS.. I just wanna see how this ends.. There is NO way there is NOT a part 2 to this. MESSY! All the Grime & It's 1 of your closest friends.. Horrible.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was really fast pace and kept my interest the entire time. Jahzara really loved her friends Tomeka and Honey but the jealousy and envy of Honey had broken them up. Honey really manipulated every one that she came across except for Imran. I feel bad for Jahzara and Tomeka because she really looked to her friends as sisters. I am hoping that Honey gets what's coming to her in the next book. I would have never predicted that Quinn and Imran knew each other. Maybe in the next book they are able to hash out everything since they knew of each other back then however, with them both in love with Jahzara this could be a little wishful thinking. Overall great book!
OMG! 😳 HONEY HONEY HONEY! Let me tell you, THIS BOOK is off the chain!! I just can’t understand how ruthless and conniving someone can truly be. Just when I think, ‘that’s grimey’, it’s like Shan heard me and upped the game to the next level of grime! 😂. I’m really wanting to read book 2 but it’s not on Audible 🤦🏽♀️, so hopefully I find it in the library.
This book was CRAZY. Jahzara, Tomeka and Honey been friends forever but when Jahzara meets Imran and starts to catch feelings for him all hell breaks loose. I can't wait to read part 2
The storyline is riveting to say the least. The shock of how quickly these friendships turned out left me speechless. To think childhood friendships and those we keep so close can betray so bad was food for thought!!!!!
I can’t believe how bad Quinn wanted a divorce, then when he found out Jah was with his enemy he wanted to reclaim her. Honey is one crazy chick and needs to meet her match.
Either I read this book before and did not clock it or it was just like another book that I read. Oh, well. Good book. I listened on Audible it was included in my membership which means I did not have to use a credit so I am not too mad if I did read it twice.
this book juicy. three best girlfriends come into some product and enter the drug game together. only one of them is a snake. when the streets start reigning tragedy and things don't add up, all hell breaks loose.
You talkin bout a grimy lil bitch!! With friends like her nobody needs enemies!! Tomeka was so gullible, that she lost her life. Let’s see which man comes out on top
