My Thoughts:
This book was provided by the author for an honest review.

Dawn of a Dark Knight was a unique view on the world of immortals. The magi are a group of immortal warriors who have pledged their souls and their service to their gods. As a fangirl of mythology, I appreciate the integration of it throughout this story. Although the reader senses the presence of other gods, we actually get to "meet" Horus and Ma'at. For me, the story contained a very engaging depth because of the mythology and Egyptian symbolism.

A word about the characters...
I really enjoyed Ashor and Kira as protagonists. Their struggles were epic as was their desire for one another.

Ashor Vlahos was the prime magus of the group of warriors. Ashor is a sexy, well muscled, domineering, 100% alpha male. *Sigh* As the prime, he bore the primary responsibility for the group. But, Ashor has been fighting evil for a very long time -- centuries -- and with each battle, a little bit of the evil seeps into his soul. For the magi, this phenomenon is known as the "Turn". That is the point of no return when the warrior loses his sense of morality and becomes pure rage, killing everything in sight -- good or evil. Sadly for Ashor, he is at the precipice of the Turn. Rage pours off of him in waves and it's only his iron will that keeps it in check. The only thing that will stop a magus from succumbing to the rage is finding his senariai (soul mate) or death.

Enter Kira Hardy

Kira is a medical doctor who has a hidden ability to heal but she can also sense the evil, especially that of the Hashishins (dark magick practitioners). Kira's cousin Markus draws her into some most uncomfortable situations when he uses her "abilities" to authenticate goods that he is brokering for sale. Kira is always reluctant but Markus and his brother Kane are her only living relatives so she often puts her life, and her medical residency, on hold to respond his behests.

Kira has tasted evil at an early age. As a teen, she felt Ashor's pain as he was being tortured at a compound near her home by Terek, a leader of the Hashishins. Using their connection, Kira found Ashor, mildly healed him, and set him free. In retaliation, Terek brings death and destruction to all that Kira knows when he violently murders her mother in front of her. That action changed the course of her destiny and forever intertwined her fate with Ashor's.

A word about the story...
Dawn of a Dark Knight was a very good story and lovers of series like Black Dagger Brotherhood, Dark-Hunters, and Sentinel Wars will appreciate the similarities between the story themes. Dawn is definitely not a copy and paste deal but the themes of good vs. evil and immortal warrior (with special powers and abilities) fighting against demons to save the world and get the girl are present and account for. I enjoyed the pacing of the story and how the story built up to the final crescendo at the end when Kira was fully able to embrace her powers. I also loved Kira and Ashor's first coupling because it just wasn't a "will they, won't they" kind of deal but actually served a very important purpose.

Some challenges...
Although I did enjoyed the story, there were just a few...challenges.

Challenge #1:
One of the Hashishins constantly called Ashor "Shaitan", a nickname that absolutely enraged Terek. Problem was, the reader never found out WHY the nickname enraged him so or what it even meant. A brief explanatory line or two about the name would have been helpful. "Shaitan" was used seven times within the story but it wasn't explained so the reader had no idea why it was just an antagony for Terek.
Challenge #2:
I preface my comment by stating that I received this review copy from Smashwords so my issue could be a result of where it was acquired from rather than something not being available to the reader at all.

As I read the story, terms and expressions were used that I had no clue what they meant -- akhrian, kem-seki, seichim. I didn't find the glossary until the very end of chapter thirty-two but did not even know that it was even there because it was not included as part of the table of contents. I would suggest moving the glossary to the front of the book so that the reader can know what things are before they start reading about them and/or add it as part of the table of contents so the reader can navigate to it to find out what a word means.
Please note that neither of these challenges precluded my overall enjoyment of the story.

Forward did a wonderful job crafting a world full of interesting characters and a highly engaging plot. Although this Dawn ended in a HFN for Ashor and Kira, the war between good and evil continues...

I'd push it up another 1/2 star if I could and call it 3.5. I liked it.

My first thought on reading Dawn of a Dark Knight is that the cover doesn't match it. IMO it needs one a little more like those of J.R. Ward's or Elisabeth Naughton's, something that screams PNR because that is what this is. Like the Black Dagger Brotherhood or the Eternal Guardians the men of Dawn of a Dark Knight, the Magi, are a bonded group of hard as nails, hot as fire, destined for one woman defenders of the innocent. And like other such books in the genre the sexual tensions run high and the sex smolders, but my favourite part is the males' interactions with one another. They fight to the death for one another, but also rag each other constantly. They laugh at each other's pain and wheedle anyone with a perceptible weakness, all in good fun of course. This made for plenty of funny moments.

Though side characters, I also loved Kane and Markus, especially Kane. Next to the two main characters I think he was my favourite in the book. I expect he will play prominent role in future books in the series, but of courses that is only my speculation...or hope.

It did feel a little bit like after fighting her destiny the whole book, Kira suddenly and for no apparent reason (other than that she should have already) finally gave in to it. I couldn't identify a single causal event or moment. Maybe there didn't need to be, but I found myself thinking, 'Hey, when did she change her mind?' There were also a few noticeable editing mistakes, but nothing that irritated me enough to put me off reading further.

Since Wild Rose Press only just released this one I don't know when a second is expected, but I'd be happy to read it when it is out.

I was given this book to read as part of the read to review for the sequel in exchange for an honest review via Lovers of Paranormal.

I have read many 'immortal warrior' books and this is up there with the best of them.

I love to read books with humour interspersed with dramatic moments - in real life that is how many of us deal with stress. This book has lots of funny banter between the characters. This book has it all. The funny moments, the sentimental aww moments, suspense, supernatural, drama, history, action, you name it it's here. There is plenty of back story so each character is well formed and there is something extremely likeable about all the good guys, even Markus who is so self absorbed in fight or flight moments yet there is no malice or bad side to him. The Ashor, Kira relationship is great and it's so good to see the lighter side of Ashor.

Read it !! I would say more but have to get on with the sequel :-)

Dawn of a Dark Knight by Zoe Forward is her first book in her Scimitar Magi Series, a paranormal romance novel, and this is indeed a great start for Forward.

In the similar theme of Ward’s BDB series, Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series, Dawn of the Dark Knight is about a group of hot sexy warriors, who fight Daemons, and must protect humans. Our hero is Ashor Vlahos, who is the group’s leader, a Scimitar Magi.

They are constantly in battle fighting the Daemons, though they usually win the battles, it is becoming tougher and tougher. They need to find their healer, destined to help and take care of them.

Our heroine is Kira Hardy, who is a doctor, and she holds a secret; as she is the missing healer. She has powers that can heal anyone just by her mind. Kira once met Ashor, when she was an 18 year old teenager, and saved his life. She watched her mother die at that time, and has kept her powers a secret to protect her own life. But all these years, she has sexual dreams about Ashor, as he does about her.

While at the hospital, she has to save the life of a Eric, who turns out to be magi warrior, and he recognizes that there is something different about Kira. As he escapes he takes her with him. And when she starts hearing Ashor telepathically call her, she reveals she needs to find Ashor. Eric takes her to their home.

Kira saves Ashor, and heals other Magi warriors, but she refuses to stay and help. She wants nothing to do with fighting deamons. But her bond to Ashor pulls her sexually, and she cannot control those feelings. Ashor too knows she is the healer, as well as his mate. But as the commander, he knows that a magi cannot mate with the healer.

Ashor is getting close to turning evil, especially with his uncontrollable emotions and need for Kira, and his stickler to the rules of their goddess. This makes him a danger to his team, and anyone around him.

This is a wonderful exciting story, non stop action all the way through. The love and sexual chemistry between Ashor and Kira is hot and steamy. What was great about this book was that Forward has created some wonderful characters. The camaraderie between the magi warriors is great; they are a loyal group, who protect one another, and they are a lot of fun, with much humor. You will enjoy them all. Ashor and Kira are wonderful together. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Kira become close to all the warriors, as they gave her their loyalty also.

Did Ashor and Kira find a way to come together, despite the rules against it? Were the warriors able to defeat the daemons trying to kidnap Kira, and stop her from becoming their healer? I suggest that you read this book, as it is a fun and exciting read. Wonderful new series by Zoe Forward.

Ashor Vlahos is the Prime Magus. His power is rage. Unfortunately, he has lived for many years, so his kem-seki (darkness) is almost uncontrollable. He is close to turning and does not sleep anymore for fear of what he wakes up to. His only hope is finding his senariai (mate), to bring light into his soul again. When he finds Kira, he knows she is the one.

Doctor Kira Hardy has the ability to heal people with her touch. Because of her special gift, she has been on the run from Hashishins and the Scimitar Magi. The Hashishins will do horrible things to her while the magi want to keep her. At least that is what she has always believed. Even though she does not trust either group, she cannot forget Ashor, the handsome Magi she has saved a decade before.

The Scimitar Magi are the only thing that stand between evil and the human race. When Ashor dares to sleep, he goes on killing rampages against evil. He knows he is breaking the laws of the Magi by killing humans, but it is beyond his control. When he finds his mate, he is not surprised by the cruel irony that he can never be with her. He feels the gods are punishing him for his wrongs. When he calls on Kira to heal him, she is pulled into his world and into his arms. Even though she fights it, she feels like she is finally where she belongs.

The tension between Ashor and Kira is electric. There are many “almost” moments that suck readers right into the story and leave them eager for more. When they finally kiss, it leaves readers grinning with satisfaction. The erotic moments are even more than sizzling. These Magi are extremely tough and charming. Each one has an enormous personality to match their equally large brawny bodies. This reader would not mind meeting any one of these men. This story is sexy, fun and full of magic.

Forward’s writing style sucked me in. I found it intriguing yet easy to connect with. The story itself is fast paced, exciting, and adventurous. Forward’s writing takes it to another level. It makes this story into something so much more, completely addictive and unforgettable. It’s a fantastic escape from reality as we perceive it.

The main character may be otherworldly but I found him quite easy to connect to. His personality combined with his past create an unforgettably deadly combination. Kira’s character is so in depth and intricately crafted. The multifaceted development really lets you get to know her. The main characters really stand out in this novel, but the author really lets us get down and dirty with the entire crew of Magi.

I love the intricate history presented in the prologue. The author sets the stage for the novel while at the same time developing an entire race and culture. The Egyptian background had me hooked. It is quite well done yet with a twist that allows these characters to shine. The gradual development of the various species and races that we meet gives readers an entire picture of the world that these characters find themselves living in. The magic in this world is also thoroughly developed, which allows readers to understand every aspect of what’s happening.

This is the perfect start to a series that you won’t be able to put down. Forward has me hooked and dying for more. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to lovers of paranormal & Egyptian mythology.

I loved the idea of a blend between Egyptian mythology and demonology wrapped up together in a paranormal romance story. This one jumped right into the action and held my interest from the start even when I was a bit confused about what was going on until an explanation came along. Once it got going, I noticed that it had familiar overtones like other paranormal romance series that I have read.

It begins with Magus guardian, Ashor Vlahos, wounded and bitter after his last bout of fighting off demon minions. He just wants it all to end. Ashor has the gift of sensing demonic activity and he also has the ability to sense one other- the one who helped him escape torture all those years ago. He felt an attraction for her and suspected that she is the next Magi Healer, but he let her go and kept this to himself. But now, she is nearby and in trouble.

Kira Hardy is in the homestretch of her residency and needs to focus, but she drops everything when family needs her particularly now that her two cousins are the last of her family left alive. Marcus needs her to accompany him to give provenance to an artifact that he is purchasing for a client. Marcus thinks she's just good at recognizing genuine articles, but Kira has a secret. She can sense when an artifact contains magic. And this one does, but before an exchange can be made, mayhem breaks loose when the bad guys jump out from all directions. She escapes with minor injuries thanks to the intervention of the man from her dreams who disappears again into the night and makes her question whether it wasn't a real encounter.

Kira goes back to her hospital work and Ashor along with his fellow magi return to fighting demons. But an old enemy of both is aware of their activities and has an agenda of his own. He suspects who and what Kira really is and he needs two more artifacts to solidify his power. The rise in demonic activity brings Kira into further contact with the magi and she cannot help, but use her healing gift to help them. She refuses to countenance the idea that she fated to be their healer. The attraction between Ashor and Kira is strong and he suspects that she is the woman destined to be his soulmate, but since she is the fated healer that makes her off limits plus there is that bit about him being almost consumed by the darkness more and more with each new battle with the demons. Thus, they go through a tug o' war of emotions even while the danger from their enemy increases placing loved one in danger.

When I began reading this I was intrigued by the character of Ashor, but at the same time I was a bit disoriented by not really understanding what was going on in this world of Egyptian gods, demons, and this group of immortal human guardians. It seemed that each time I got a handle on it that a new curve was thrown at me. I do know to be patient when I'm reading the first book in the series which is always destined to be the one heavy on the world building thus weakening the plot or distracting me a bit. And I did try for patience, but there were a few times- I'm still not sure what I think about that twist when all the secrets were revealed at the end that broke through the seemingly impossible barrier of how Kira could be the fated healer, but also Ashor's fated mate. Enough about that though. While it was confusing stuff, it was also a pretty interesting take on a book involving demons as the bad guys set on taking over the human world and running loose and those handsome, dangerous, capable, yet vulnerable immortal men ranged against them.

I've always been a sucker for the 'band of brothers' stories where there are multiple heroes all with different personalities, but a close camaraderie that gets them through the tough stuff together. Each of the guys harbor their own taint of darkness and also possess unique gifts and personalities, but Ashor is the scariest and most close to the darkness of them all and he happens to be the leader. He battles himself almost as hard as he battles the demons. He is honorable, but he's all alpha and Kira gets under his skin. Kira is a character that I'm on the fence about. I tried to get past my early impression of not liking her because she was stringing along this poor guy she worked with for the wrong reasons. She's also hip deep in denial a lot of the time too. She has a gift of healing, but when she is told that she is giving the gift because she is expected to be the healer of the guardians she refuses. I couldn't understand why she fought it so hard particularly when she was training to be a doctor. I know she said that she didn't want to be caught up in the middle of the dangerous stuff, but I couldn't believe she was so naive as to think that all she had to do was walk away and it would all go away. Sand, ostrich, Kira? There was also that tendency to keep ditching her protectors, getting herself into trouble and then having to be bailed out several times. I found it laughable when she said that Ashor burned hot and cold on her (not that I'm excusing that one scene when he really crossed the line) because she was constantly ready to run out the door and had no plans to commit and seemed to just want to scratch an itch. So yeah, I wasn't fond of that side of her, but there was also the courageous need to help even when it placed her in danger, the compassion to relieve the pain whenever she could and of course the way she inspired change in Ashor to show a light-hearted side.
I look forward to more stories that will feature the other guardians and I do hope to see more of Kira's cousins, Kane and Marcos who were personal favorites of mine for different reasons. Kane is so capable and then there's Marcus who seems to be the ultimate survivor.

The action was really exciting and the bad guys are true villains leaving a trail of bodies and misery in their wake. I found it refreshing to read about characters who were not only called evil demons, but acted the part too making them worthy opponents. Even though there was a triumph of sorts in this story, it was obvious that the head demon, Terek, isn't through with his plotting and he has plenty of help at his finger tips to continue being a huge thorn in the guardians' side. I look forward to seeing what is to come.

I recommend this book/series to those who enjoy a grittier Paranormal Romance series with the romance on the spicier side and promises a big bad dangerous guardian.

Ashor Vlahos, as Prime Magus, the leader of the last eight magi, is duty bound to find a healer. One is needed, and needed now, as an old enemy has returned.

The Gods have chosen Doctor Kira Hardy. She saved Ashor ten years ago.

Kira agrees to help when the magi are devastated by a daemon attack. Now Ashor insists she stay and become their healer, their akhrian.

There’s a big problem though. Kira likes her life. She doesn’t believe in these Gods, and she just wants to go home.

An even bigger problem is the attraction between Ashor and Kira.

It’s is forbidden for him to be with their akhrian, but since Kira doesn’t believe in the Gods, she sees something she likes and goes for it.

And she sees Ashor. Toned muscles, rock hard abs, and those tattoos. She would love to do things to those tattoos.

Poor Ashor is already half insane, close to his turning. Kira could be his undoing.

He’s been experiencing blackouts brought on from fighting with deamons. Their evil souls are poisonous and work on a magus, corrupting their kem-seki and causing them to go berserk..

When that happens, there’s no going back, and they have to be destroyed by another Magus

Ashor is so close, he knows it’s only a matter of time.

But still, he gets all twisted up in his boxers when Kira entices him to crawl between the sheets with her. He senses she is his senariai, soul mate, but their union is strictly forbidden.

“He’d sought her soul, but discovered he’d lost his own.”

It’s all he can do to turn away and obey the Gods.

Now the enemy approaches, and it wants to finish them off, get rid of the magi and the healer and let darkness loose upon the world.

Why did this story work for me?

Because of several things.

First, great characters.

I couldn’t help but fall for Ashor and Kira. They are in the middle of a battle to save mankind and still have to deal with their raging desire for each other.

I think the Gods were laughing while they watched Ashor struggle to stay out of Kira’s bed.

You know how they say almost dying can make you fall into bed together, just so you know you’re alive? Kira and Ashor have to deal with this a lot and it gets funny and pretty steamy.

But this thought always stops Ashor from going too far.

“If he horizontal mamboed with her, the gods wrath would pour down on them.”

Second, the peripheral characters.

Each is well written with distinct voices and personalities.

They helped flesh out the story and I grew quite fond of some of them.

The magi are sexy, fierce warriors and the bad guys are truly vile.

I would like to read their stories.

Third, originality.

It’s hard to find a book with new beings and a new twist on an old story.

The Magus are unique and fascinating and the forbidden love is more fun than frustrating.

The author kept the sexual tension just right. And she also kept me guessing as to whether these two would ever be together, or would I have to wait for another book.

Fourth, editing.

If there were any typos and such, they were so minor they didn’t make a blip on my radar. The book read smoothly, keeping me up late, turning the pages to hurry and see what was coming next.

Fifth, sarcasm.

I like some sarcasm, or snark, in my characters. Makes it fun and keeps me grinning. As long as there’s not too much. In this case, it was just right.

So, there you have it. Five reasons I recommend this book.

Then there’s the pure enjoyment I got out of reading it.There was plenty of action, it was never dull. I could picture the scenes in my mind and visualize the characters. I left feeling like I knew them .

I received this book from the author for my honest review.

This book is complicated. Interesting and creative… with good sexual tension… but ultimately difficult to connect to because it was so foreign.

The basic premise is that Ashor is one of a handful of magi, tasked by the Gods to fight the evil daemons that threaten humanity. He is immortal –or almost. He can die by the hands of a daemon or one of his own brethren, but he is always reborn into the role he swore to uphold centuries ago. In each reincarnation, he forgets his former lives and it takes years before he learns to use his gifts again. He isn’t supposed to kill humans, not even the Hashishins who summon the daemons into this world. The more he kills, the more he lets out the violence in his soul, the more he begins to turn dark… until there is nothing of himself left.

Kira is a doctor, but more than that, she is a mystical healer. She can diagnose and heal a problem with the touch of her hands. She is the fated akrain of the magi… their personal healer… but she wants no part of that life. She does, however, want a piece of Ashor. Ever since she rescued him from the hands of the Hashishins years ago, she has been unable to stop thinking of him. The feeling is mutual.

Ashor knows something Kira doesn’t. She is his fated female, the only thing that can keep his darkness at bay. Unfortunately, the Gods forbid the magi from getting intimate with the akrain, so she is off limits, no matter how much he yearns for her.

After years apart, a close call with the Hashishins puts Ashor and Kira back in each other’s lives. And once the bad guys figure out who she is, her old life is not safe. So the story follows Ashor and Kira as they fight their feelings for one another and try to figure out her place in the world of magic and the supernatural.

You may have noticed already that this series is big on coining its own terminology. There are about a dozen glossary worthy terms tossed around throughout the book. It confused me. In the best cases, it simply pulled me out of the story; in the worst cases, it left me feeling lost and disconnected. The worldbuilding is… ambitious. Maybe overly so. It wouldn’t have been so bad if it didn’t have so many funky words in there. Plus, it’s nothing like your standard PNR. We’re talking Egyptian mythology here; I don’t really have a reserve of knowledge on that to draw from to help fill in the blanks. (Even now that I am done, I still don’t know what Shaitan means.) There is a glosssary, but it’s at the END. It would have been much more useful at the beginning.

On the plus side, I did enjoy the romance. Ashor is deliciously ansty and tries very hard to do the right thing. That means the sexual tension is ever-present! And it’s well-done. I liked the characters and I was interested in what happened to them. The sex is good and the conflict, believable. Plus — now that I feel like I understand the world, I think I would like to see how the story continues… maybe with poor Javen. He is even closer to the edge than Ashor was!

Saying that Dawn of A Dark Knight is a paranormal romance would be an understatement because this book is a thrilling, sexy and exciting story.

This book presents us a different kind of paranormal. Here we have a new world, described and created by the author in an excellent style, where Scimitar Magus, an Order of Assassins, Daemons and Egyptian Gods are real. It’s an original and fresh idea with a solid plot and very well thought.

At first I was a bit overwhelm by all the names and the different types of assassins but once I continue with the story I got used to them and could difference one from another.

We have two main characters: Ashor and Kira. Ashor Vlahos, the Scimitar Magi commander, is the alpha male you expect. He is the embodiment of sexiness and every girl's dream. He is protective, brave, mysterious and way too sexy. His dark side is gaining strength and the only thing that could help him is finding his soul mate.

Kira, a future doctor with a secrete power. Her ability to heal others always made her feel different and out of place. Her knowledge of the Magi world will lead her through a fantastic journey where magic, ancient Gods and demons are everyday thing.

As you imagine, there is an intense and always present sexual tension between Kira and Ashor. It increases as the story moves on until it reaches a point where the thermometers would explode. This tension is one of the strongest point of the story, however, there is a moment where is just too much. They are surrounded by all kinds of danger, people are getting hurt and they can’t overpass or put their tension aside. Luckily, the wait is totally worth it and the scenes make you forget all the previous annoyance.

The rest of the characters are amazing. The other Magis are incredible; each one has a defined personality and more than once they steal the spotlight.

Like I said the writing style is great, engaging and easy to follow. It has a fast rhythm without going too quick. The characters are amazing with awesome dialogues and actions that made them look mature and real. It also has great scenarios and powerful sexy scenes.

And the bad guys... well, they are pretty evil. Also, they are a great addition to the story and made it more interesting.

This is a must for all the paranormal romance lovers out there.

BTW, being an adult story so it has sexual content and a lot of violence.

I can't wait for book two.

Ashor Vlahos is the perfect alpha male, leader of an ancient Egyptian magi group, created and resurrected by the gods to protect human kind from Hashishins and demons. After years of fighting evil and not yet finding his senariai, or soul mate, Ashor is fighting back the darkness threatening to take over his soul.

Kira Hardy has been fighting her supernatural need to heal by becoming a doctor in the human world, using her gifts sparingly to help diagnose and save those in need. After her parents were murdered, Kira's been continuously on the look out for Terek, the illusive man who she swears is responsible.

I loved Kira and Ashor. Kira is hilarious and headstrong, even when fighting against her undeniable attraction to Ashor. While Ashor is the sexy and anguished warrior who can't help but fall in love with the sassy Kira. My favorite character in this book is undoubtedly Kira. I loved her honesty and determination. She doesn't play games and goes right for what she wants.

Moreover, I was compelled by the elements woven together by Zoe Forward. The witchcraft, demonology, history of the gods, and reincarnation helped to create rich and unique scenes from start to finish. I did, however, have some confusion with the terminology and didn't actually find out that there was a glossary until I finished the novel. That being said, I would've been a lot less confused had I read the meanings behind these terms in the beginning.

Zoe writes a story rich with romance and unique paranormal elements. The point-of-view of the story switches from Kira's to Ashor's and we even get a brief view into the mind of the antagonist, which is atypical and appreciated. And again, the relationship development between Kira and Ashor is well-paced, their intimacy is hot, and I cannot wait to read more about them and the fellow Scimitar Magi in the next installment in this series, Forgotten In Darkness, release date, TBD.

This is certainly what you would call an "eye-opener!" This is one of the most detailed, exciting, non-putter-downer book that I have ever had the privileg
e to read. And no, I am not just being biased because I have a thing for butt-kicking, tall, dark, sexy, virtually undefeatable men.... Or maybe I am....Shhh.....

So, when a person picks up a book and realizes that the book has to do with supernatural beings and giant men who kick Daemon butt, you expect it to be a thriller, yes, but you also seem to think, "Hey, this is going to be about teens." You expect it to be a Young Adult novel. Am I right or am I right? Normally, when it comes to books, I am. But, back to the review. This is a book about supernaturla beings, yes, but it has none of that teen-romance theme that seems to be a big hit with teens nowadays. There is only so much we teens can take when it comes to supernatural creatures. No offense when it comes to vampires and werewolves, but every so often, a new creature would be interesting to read about. And "Dawn of a Dark Knight" gives readers that refreshment so many readers crave, be they teen or adult.

On the romance level, this book is similar to any other romance book that one might pick up. The guy does not want to be with the girl because he does not feel as though he is not good enough, or because it's against the rules of a Higher Power. What makes this book different, though, is that it doesn't come from the naive perspective of a teenage girl who wants to be with the bad-boy vampire/werewolf. Instead, it is from the perspective of a woman who knows what she wants, and also from a guy who know what he wants. That is one theme that caught my eye and I enjoyed.

Don't get too excited by the title, Batman fans. You won't find him here.

Readers will likely perceive this urban fantasy tale as reminiscent of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series—minus the vampire element and swapping the Greek/Roman pantheon of gods for Egyptian instead.

As paranormal heroes go, Asher is a pretty standard alpha male—the uptight, over-caffinated leader of an elite band of ancient warriors who've been charged with ridding the world of demonic evil. The heroine, Kira, is a medical doctor who lives in general avoidance of her trouble-attracting supernatural abilities—while assisting her bungling cousin with his black market artifact deals on the side.

This reader's biggest complaint would be that the character of Kira never fully came to life. She had a background, but she seemed detached from it. She had a vague idea of what was going on in a supernatural sense, but spent much of the book running on assumptions without clear motives or a desire to fill in missing information. It wasn't so much her ignorance that disappointed as her lack of curiosity.

On the up side, the author's voice does have promise. And the medical aspects felt accurate, lending some authenticity. The Egyptian angle was even somewhat original, though the gods in question are largely hands-off. But the story overall seems to suffer from bumbling bad-guys and uneven pacing. Contrived incidents, stilted dialogue, and info-dumping make for a somewhat shaky worldbuilding experience. Readers may also note the editing to be a bit lacking.

This story (to me) is a combination of the BDB series, the Dark Hunter series and a couple of others combined with an added twist, an Egyptian twist. A good read for fans of paranormal romance that enjoy kick butt heroes and heroines with the addition of a great romantic build. A 3.5 out of 5 star rating for me.

Kira is a strong beautiful and powerful woman that learns that all of what she thought was a dream, is in fact, reality. A doctor who heals in many ways, talent beyond imagination and power that many want to get their hand on. She’s now no longer safe in her practice and has one of the hottest males she’s ever laid eyes on to protect her, keep her safe and tempt her beyond imagination.

Ashor just wants to give up on life. He’s fed up of not having full control and waking up to horrific, gory scenes that really belong on a movie screen. He’s handsome, powerful and a kick butt leader that has a constant battle with the darkness within him. That’s until he meets Kira.

The two together are magical! An amazing pair that complete and complement one another, fate (or the gods) have done an amazing job pairing them and I am happy with the outcome. This is a good start to a new series which I plan to keep my eye on :)

This is an original review from http://bookedandloaded.com I received this book directly from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Dawn of a Dark Knight by Zoe Forward starts out fast paced and never skipped a beat. Ashor leads a group of magi warriors whose goal is keep balance on earth and are governed by Egyptian deities. The chosen healer, Kira, is needed to help them in this journey, but what happens when her undeniable bond to Ashor goes against the gods rules? Will she accept the responsibility? I have to say, I loved this story. I know the warrior bit is not a new concept per se, but Dawn of a Dark Knight is completely original in its own right. I enjoyed the different point of views and the story moved effortlessly throughout each of them. The chemistry between Ashor and Kira virtually melted off the page and I loved each of their individual stories as well. If you are a fan of alpha males and strong female characters you will enjoy Dawn of a Dark Knight. This is certainly a romance, so don't judge a book by it's cover! =)

I'm a huge fan of Kresley Cole, JR Ward, Christine Feehan...and this author is right in their league! Tons of adventure, steamy romance and a touch of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat, wanting to read more. I especially enjoyed the brisk pace - there was never a dull moment. I also love the humor - similar to Kresley Cole. There is definitely some serious drama, but the dabs of humor had me smiling throughout. The Egyptian mythology is unique and interesting. The storyline is well written and the characters are nicely developed. I would definitely recommend it to friends! I'm looking forward to the next book by this author!

Hi!
Thanks for reading the first in my Scimitar Magi series. I give you bad-to-the bone hero, drop dead gorgeous guys who will protect their woman to the ends of the earth. Danger is his hometown. Give him some preternatural powers, and now he’s all that, plus he’s an alpha take-charge kind of guys. Swoon.

Happy Reading,
~Zoe Forward

Great book. Reminds me of the Dark Hunters. Didn’t like newer version published 2019 doesn’t mention it’s a reprint.

I really enjoyed this book it’s the first I read by this author. A lot of similarities to Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series though different. If you like books like Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters or JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series, I believe you will like this book and possibly this series. It has a lot of Egyptian Mythology I believe which is similar to the Dark Hunter’s Greek mythology touch. Love is fated like both of the other series. The ones they kill though are somewhat different along with the rules for killing.
I did like that this wasn’t another vampire type series though but with a lot of similarities in the warrior for good alpha male and fates beings. The reincarnation thing along with their fated mates is a very interesting twist to this series.
Some aspects of this series also reminds me of Jacqueline Frank’s Nightwalker series in a way in regards to the witch/dark magic aspect. The body switching thing the Daemons do in a sense remind me of Jacqueline Frank’s World of Nightwalkers.
I rate this book a 4 1/2 stars if able which I can’t so it’s 4 stars. As far as the story went, it was very confusing at first. I wish she put the list of definitions at front of book rather than the back. I stumbled quite a bit cause I had no clue what things were. I quickly caught on though and by end of book, didn’t even need the list of definitions. It would’ve been nice to have it at the beginning though.
Another thing that bugged me is the use of the word loo for bathroom. That’s not the normal word for bathroom in this US bases series so it seemed odd to see it called that. Along with that, there were some editing errors. Extra words or words missing. Granted, I read an old edition of the kindle book, I bought it in jan 2013, so in newer versions, those issues may be corrected.
I almost bought this book twice. I already own an earlier version that I bought Jan 2013. I saw the 2019 version on sale and almost bought it, it didn’t say it was a reprint...but for some reason I still checked to see if I already own book and I did. This has happened to me before and it always makes me feel like I’ve been ripped off by buying book twice. I wish you would put under product details that this book was previously printed by another publisher. I feel it’s fair to the readers. Had I bought this and discovered I already owned it past the return date, I would probably not buy any more of this author’s books. I think honesty is a plus. And for the record, there’s lots of different editions of books I do purposely buy, so it’s not like I don’t mind having the latest version. But when a publisher isn’t forthright, I don’t like that. Also it’s nice to know if this is actually a new book published for first time in 2019, or if it’s one of the author’s early or first books. It can make a difference to if a person will continue to read their work
Do I recommend this book? Absolutely. I also like the price of each books which runs $.99-$3.99 which makes it more economical to give this author a try, like I did. If you like super alpha kick ass hunks that are warriors and love their fated mate with so much intensity it leaves you tingling, try this book. I like the mix of magic and mythology, action/adventure, and romance. Definitely a good read. Would be a 5 star book for me except for things mentioned which may have already been corrected as my edition is pre 2013

In the shadows of our world, a secret band of warriors fights to protect us. They are the last line of defense against an evil no human can stop.
An ancient nemesis has resurfaced. Duty demands that Ashor Vlahos, Scimitar Magi commander, recruit a magical healer to fortify the remaining eight magi. The gods' choice is the woman who helped him escape torture a decade ago. Ashor couldn't have imagined a better punishment for his vow-breaker homicidal incidents than for the gods to bind him irrevocably to the only woman in the universe he cannot have. The soul-searing desire she ignites in him is strictly forbidden.
Kira Hardy, M.D. is a brilliant, hardworking internal med resident with big secrets. But when Ashor asks for aid after a brutal daemon attack, she is sucked into his dangerous, secret world. Enslavement to the magi, no matter how hot they are, may be an unattractive life plan, but being targeted for death by their enemies is less tolerable.

She must trust the sexy, tormented Ashor to keep her safe while he must deny his ultimate desire and keep Kira at arm's length lest he bring destruction down on them both. As a centuries-old evil catches up to them, they face a crucial decision--follow the gods' rules or follow their hearts.

My review:
I will admit that I was a little lost in the first few pages of trying to figure out all the different terminology and the different characters, it didn't take long for it to click in my brain. Dawn of a Dark Knight is full of emotions, twists and turns, surprises, and of course, the villains. Zoe Forward has a fantastic writing style that just makes the plot flow beautifully. The characters are larger than life, even though they do have their vulnerabilities. It's very easy to like the characters and the cause they are fighting for. They are very three dimensional and complicated. I loved the snarky humor between Ashor and Kira. laughing out loud several times. The interaction between all the magi also made Dawn of a Dark Knight a pleasurable read.

Ms. Forward created great sexual tension between Ashor and Kira that kept me turning the pages. Her attention to detail shows she must have done a lot of research. The main villain, Terek Nadir was fabulously evil and created a lot of turmoil for the hero and heroine.

I would strongly recommend Dawn of a Dark Knight to anyone, and if you like paranormal romance, you'll love this book. I can't wait to read the next book.

A love beyond words.

This story interweaves magic, mystery, action, and romance to create a spellbinding read that you will never forget. The imagery was beautiful and captivating, really drawing you into the story. The world building was unique and done perfectly. I loved the way the mythology was used in the story and how everything fit together in the end.

The romance was also nicely done and paced. There was no insta love, but plenty of chemistry between the two main characters.

Kira is a gifted healer, but she is forced to hide her gifts away. She cannot deny the call to heal completely though. She uses her magic sparingly to help those in need. Kira is a kind soul and does her best to help others. However, she is no wilting violet. Kira has no problems with fighting back and doing what needs to be done. She has a strong will and is a great match for ashor.

Ashor is an alpha male with a heart of gold. He is interested in Kira, but fears the consequences. I loved the interactions between Kira and Ashor the best. They were so much fun together and their banter was hilarious. Ashor is noble and just. He does what is best for the good of all. Even when there is a great cost to himself.

This is an exciting paranormal romance that will have you on the edge of your seat at every turn of the page!

3.5 stars

This was a likeable book in a similar theme of some of the big names of paranormal romance. A band of amazingly sexy, superhuman men are charged with protecting humanity from the things that go bump in the night.

The world-building was interesting and well done, although I did have an issue with the overabundance of lengthy words to describe the unique elements of Ms. Forward's world. I loved the significance of the magi's body ink and what each unique tattoo came to mean to Kira. It was an eloquent way to connect Kira to the group of Magi, allowing her to leave her mark upon the group. The characters weren't the strongest that I've ever read but they were likeable and humorous.

Overall, a good read with good potential for the series.

I thought this was one of the best paranormal books I've read in a long time. The heroine was strong, the hero was alpha, the secondary characters played a big part in the story and the book left a lot of room for sequels.

I enjoyed the Egyptian type history and lore added in, there was action and angst, and length, while I thought the end wrapped up a bit fast, I still think this was five star worthy. I look forward to the next adventure -Forgotten in Darkness.

Only made it to page 33. The outline sounded really good but the writing had no flow. I think it was badly edited, I kept rereading sentences to try to follow. It felt like I was coming into it half way through. I even checked to make sure I was reading book 1.
