Walter Trice breaks backgammon down and puts it back together. In a series of articles first appearing online at GammonVillage.com, Trice covers every aspect of the game - from the most fundamental to the most advanced. No other book covers this range of essential material. Regardless of your level of play, Backgammon Boot Camp will transform you into a lean, mean, point-winning machine.
Just finished this, and it probably taught me the most yet. I'm not sure if it requires familiarity with some other intro books or not, but it worked well for me. It was the first intro book I've read that was modern enough to take into account everything being learned in the computer age of backgammon. Also, despite being aimed at the beginner, it doesn't shy away from some pretty technical analysis. The only section that really went over my head was my first read of some match score equity problems - and I mainly mention that because I think it's *great* that there's a portion of the book that baffled me on first read. I think this one will be worth re-reading a number of times.
Great book. I learned some good things from this book. As I wrote about here http://sbutki.newsvine.com/_news/2008... I love backgammon and play it online daily and in person in tournaments here in austin on monday nites
What Magriel's book was to the 1970s, this book is to the present. It's very clearly written and well-organized with interesting puzzles and commentary.
If you have any interest in the game at all, worth reading.
