Pure retro-geek awesomeness! If you ever wanted a printed Atari 2600 programming guide, I think this is your one and only option. It's fun to see one of my favorite childhood toys demystified. Adding adult understanding to childhood nostalgia ends up enhances both. In fact, after having read this book, I've had fun finding ROMs of old Atari games online, changing them around, and playing the new versions in emulators.

The absurd difficulty in programming the 2600 is what makes it so very interesting. The book covers a variety of solutions to what would be, in any modern system, easy programming tasks.

I may be the only one who discovered this in paperback form before seeing the online version. While I like the paperback form (easy to take out to coffee in the mornings), there are some problems:
- No page numbers.
- No color (important when displaying color tables).
- Occasionally, URLs in the book will be condensed with ellipsis, making them useless.
- The online version of this book (see below) goes up to Session 25 (at time of writing), but the book only goes to Session 24.
- No appendix, which could have included 6502 instructions, and perhaps cycle costs (e.g. http://www.6502.org/tutorials/6502opc...)

The book is a perfect gift for any gamer/programmer type born in the early 70s. It's available here:
