Ten years ago, a virus swept the planet, killing millions. Just as the world started to recover from that disaster, mechanical aliens invaded Earth looking for iron–and they had no problem exterminating the human race to get it.
Anthony Roark lost his lover in the first wave of the virus. Frankie's family secreted him away in a cryogenics facility until a cure could be found. But that was before the mechs invaded.
Roark has searched for Frankie since the day he disappeared. Once word reaches him that Frankie has been located, Roark wastes no time going after his lover. But bringing Frankie into the new world might cost him more than his sanity. It may cost him his life.
About Me I believes the only thing sexier than a man in cowboy boots is two, or three men in cowboy boots. I also believes in love at first sight, soul mates, true love, and happy endings.
I live in the great Northwest region of the USA, with my gorgeous husband and soul mate, two boxer/collie puppies, one old biddy cats, and three fish. When I'm not being a mother to my six teenagers or cleaning up after my two 70 pound lap puppies, you can usually find me cuddled in bed with a book in my hand and a puppy in my lap. Or on my laptop, creating the next sexy man for one of my stories.

ETA: I found the first edition of this one pretty cracky and enjoyable so I admit to being curious how the author would add to it with the revised edition. So I decided to get the new edition. Meh.
Let me save you all some money. IMO, if you've read the first don't bother with the re-edit. There may be subtle changes throughout but only one added new scene (it's been a while since I read the first but . I do like the set up though and I will check out "Saving Sawyer" whenever it shows up.
Ten years is a long time to search for a lover – but in this post-apocalyptic world it is the one thing that keeps Roark going. Actually, it is a post-alien-invasion world, and things look pretty grim. The logic behind the scenario is simple – the mechanical alien invaders are looking for iron and have no scruples getting it, including retrieval from the human body. The consequences for humans, and Roark and his long-lost lover, Frankie, in particular, are less straightforward. And that tension made this story both utterly cruel, and beautifully hopeful at the same time.
I just read halfway the part where he said he slept with three other guys.. He wasn't faithful and I know 10 years is a long time but some ppl do and can remain celibate at that period time.. It just kills the romance for me.. It's just me..
This is the best Stormy Glenn story I've ever read. I loved it. The premise was interesting. The intensity of the emotion of the man who's been looking for his lover is amazing.

Quite an engaging read. Some area felt over the top but maybe it was excusable under the premise. The world building was interesting and I curious to see how it will goes.
And extra points for having the best looking cover I have ever seen on Ms. Glenn's book so far.
I want to like this. The first half was really enjoyable. I enjoyed the world building. First there was a pandemic then after an alien machine invasion. I thought that was clever, stacking one apocalyps one after another. But after finding Frankie, everything just went down. I like that the main lead Roark dedicated his whole life into rescuing his lover. It is sweet and touching. What I didnt like was the interaction between those two leads. It felt cheesy and scripted. I just didnt feel the love lost reunited. I even struggled finishing the last part. Towards the end, i felt there was a lacking.. 2.5 star
I love sci-fi and was really enjoying this story, I'm sure I could have even loved it... Unfortunately, Ms. Glenn decided that Roark sleeping with other men while Frankie was in "deep freeze" would be a good plot device. I for one, wasn't able to muster up anything other than indifference towards the story from that point forth and doubt I'll be reading the following books in the series.
Hm, this is an interesting fresh start into the new Mech Warrior series. Sure the way it start, it's a bit confusing, but okay. The reader is thrown directly into the storyline which made this story weird. The main characters aren't developed really well, I'm not impressed so far.
Wow I loved Frankie! He is so funny I was laughing many times during this book and it is easy to see why Roark loves him. Excellent story line and can't wait for the next book in the series.
An OK way to while away time on a lazy friday afternoon.
I way intrigued by this dystopian world where people were forced to live in fear in caves. The alien invaders didn't make any sense to me, but I could mostly block that out. It was romance and fluff, not serious SciFi stuff so I was fine with the author defying logic here and there.
I loved Roarke! Unfortunately, I didn't share his love of Frankie. I can't believe he searched all over the american continent to find that whiny self absorbed little boy!
But what really disturbed me was that even though this is listed as a series, it's not. This is the only book. Going in I assumed this would be a mostly wrap up kind of story. But noooo! The second half was more or less an introduction to a second story that doesn't exist, and as far as I can tell after searching the Author's webpage is not coming any time soon, if ever. I hate books that end in "almost a cliffhanger".
Roark and Frankie are enjoying their first anniversary together when disaster strikes and Frankie was ripped from Roark’s arms, now after ten hard years of searching Roark has found Frankie but he has a lot of explaining. When Frankie wakes in Roark’s arms he is overjoyed but finding out he was a Popsicle for ten years is hard to accept, but not as hard as the truth of what happened to Earth in that time. In the new world that he wakes up in Frankie has to learn how to survive and fast, but after what feels like minutes to him but is years to Roark how will they reconcile everything that has happened with their love for each other?
This is a brilliant story that is filled with world-building and great descriptions. Roark has searched for Frankie for ten years and the hope of finding Frankie is the only thing that has kept him going during the horror of those ten long years, trying to explain that horror to Frankie is hard but admitting to Frankie that he wasn’t quite faithful during those ten years is harder. Frankie is shocked by everything when Roark finds him, discovering what his family did was hard but finding out that the world’s population was devastated by the same virus that floored him is astounding, and discovering the world is invaded by mechanical aliens would be just too much to believe if he wasn’t being chased by a mechanical spider.
I loved this story as it was science fiction with adventure and action with the added twist of a rogue virus; add in a man so in love that he has hunted for his missing lover for ten years and you have an epic love story. Roark and Frankie are perfect for each other but they have a few bumps to iron out, it isn’t easy to be alone for ten years after all. Frankie is a remarkable character although he has a few wobbly times he takes everything in stride and has fortitude to face what is ahead of him. Roark makes you melt with his devotion to Frankie and you can easily forgive the blips in his strength.
The world-building is wonderful and you get the full impact of what has happened, the descriptions of the alien Mech’s are clearly detailed, although I could have really done without the explanations about the iron in human blood *shudder*. The journey they take and what they constantly face makes a great story and I am looking forward to the next instalment.
I will recommend this to those who love science fiction, adventure, action, alien tech, hot sex, a lasting romance and a happy ending.

Summary:
I knew form the start that I would enjoy reading Ms. Glenn's works, but this story blew me away. I fell in love with Frankie from his response when he learned that he had been put in cryostasis was “I was a Popsicle?” . With that comment the reader knew that Frankie would be one character that they would never forget. His snarky, in-your-face attitude brought him to life. Even though the world fell apart for Roarke, by loosing Frankie and the struggle to fight the alien invaders, he never gave up looking for Frankie. As the years unfolded, Frankie became a legend from the picture they had and Roarke's search. It was incredible how Roarke's refusal to give up the search became the hope of the world and the driving force behind the resistance. I loved every second of this story and hope that this isn't the end of their story.
This is their one year anniversary and Franklin James cannot wait to get his partner home to celebrate. In the blink of an eye, however, Frankie’s entire world changes irrevocably.
Giving up and moving on is not in Commander Anthony Roark’s vocabulary. His faith and determination finally pay off, although his lover may never forgive him for what he has done.
Everyone on Earth is in survival mode after a virus nearly wipes out the human race. Following that is an alien invasion willing to destroy anything in its path to extract iron. It has taken Roark ten very hard, long, and lonely years to find Frankie since this onset, but never once has he given up. The world is now a very different and dangerous place for Frankie, yet he would rather be with Roark no matter how awful things have become. Roark prays that Frankie will still feel the same after he reveals that he has been no angel the last ten years.
This is a home run for Ms. Glenn! The characters are as fascinating as the world in which they are living. I love how history, present day, and futuristic all play a part to enrich the environment that these men must navigate. I was really not ready for this to end, as it feels like Frankie and Roark are just getting geared up to do something spectacular.
Книга из серии "Они шли-шли и пришли". В начале довольно скучновато, но к концу книги я прониклась к героям. Хотя, в принципе сюжет не окончен и подразумевает продолжение. Френки просто лапочка и Рорк очень притягательный герой.
I loved it. Frankie was hilarious, Roark was brooding and they loved each other more than anything. Not even the end of the world and an alien invasion could keep them apart. A few things I would have liked to know, like who developed the virus, why was it used and was Frankie specifically targeted? I hope these questions will be answered in the following books. I know I'll be right there to find out.
Truly one of the best stormy glenn book I've read. This new series has a more interesting world and the characters are to die for. It's a short and fun read. What would have given it a 5 star was if there was more towards the ending. It felt too "that's it?"
Not a bad story. Better than most of this authors books. I loved the concept and Frankie was a riot to read. Loved the part where he beat his attacker to pulp. Besides a few inconsistencies (the aliens take all the iron, yet there are abandoned cars, for example) I loved this book :-)
I just love it. Frankie is awsome. Great, great start of a new series. Normally, I don´t read Futuristic-SciFi books, but this one was wonderfully done.
