DEDUCTIVE DOG DETECTIVE

When Takeru adopts his new pet, he's in for a surprise—the dog is none other than the reincarnation of Sherlock Holmes, the famous detective. What's more, this "Sherdog" has decided that Takeru is the reincarnation of his long-time assistant, Dr. Watson. Takeru may think Sherdog (or he himself) is crazy, but with no one else able to communicate with Holmes, he's roped into becoming the canine's assistant all the same. Using his exceptional sleuthing skills, Holmes uncovers clues to solve the trickiest crimes.

(*review untuk vol. 1-7 tamat)

Premis komiknya:

Ekspresi ‘kegilaan’ para antagonisnya pun senantiasa jadi hiburan tersendiri:

Dua-tiga volume terakhirnya memang semakin menarik berkat perkembangan itu, apalagi Sato-sensei kian berani memainkan ekspresi para karakternya hingga menambah kadar keseruan/kelucuan.

3.5/5

Takeru is so excited about the fact that he is about to adopt a dog. But he has no idea what he's about to get into. Turns out that he has adopted the reincarnation of Sherlock Holmes: Sherlock Bones. And when he is chewing a pipe, he can talk to Takeru, who immediately is enlisted as his Watson. The dynamic between them is pretty funny.

The art was a bit weird at times, sometimes it looked like a character was possessed by the way her eyes were drawn. Really weird. And I don't need a close-up of Sherlock's butt while doing his business, even though is blurry.

I liked the second part of the book better than the first, which is more of a presentation. Takeru and Sherlock investigating the murder of a classmate was interesting, mostly because it's not really about the murder but why it happen and who does is involve other people in the story. Can't say more without spoiling it.

It was an enjoyable read but I'm not sure I will be reading more. I think is was a read I will soon forget and seeing as I'm not a fan of the art...

Also, I must be a moron because it took me forever to figure out in which order to read the book. Most of the time I was reading from the bottom of the page to the beggining. My God, this shouldn't be that difficult, so I kind of prefer that manga is printed occidental style.

This was a fun story! I like the idea of Sherlock Holmes being reincarnated as a dog, and I thought it was funny how he was still able to observe and solve crimes. The dynamic between Sherdog and Takeru was sweet, and I’m eager to see what other crimes and mysteries this pair solve.

With a title like that, you just gotta laugh when you see this book. But, once you read some of this manga, you realize it's good and gets better.
Takeru adopts a dog, who turns out to be the reincarnation of Sherlock Holmes, the famous detective. (The fact that Sherlock was a world-famous detective is really repeated too much in this volume.) He names the dog "Sherdog", and the fun begins.
With the help of Sherlock's pipe, Sherdog can communicate with Takeru, who he believes is the reicarnation of his partner, Watson, of "Elementary, my dear Watson" fame. Takeru doesn't believe this at first, but he seems more on-board after the two have solved a couple crimes as a team.
I enjoyed the multi-chapter story of the death of a student very much. But, I felt that the point that the P.E. teacher did it was a little too obvious all along. However, I do want to read more of the series.

Untuk vol.1-7 (tamat!^ o ^ )/

Gambar : 4 bintang...khusus untuk gambar si Sherdock: 5.5 bintang! (✧ω✧)

Cerita :
- kasus-kasusnya + penyelidikannya : 3 - 4 bintang...seru (imho^^) tanpa serumit detektip Conan, misalnya~
- serpis-kipas-angin : -3 bintang...( ̄  ̄|||) bener-bener gak dibutuhin~ hanya bikin masuk angin doang...

Bintang tambahan : James Moriarty Moriniarty!! ଲ(ⓛ ω ⓛ)ଲ ngiaoou!!

I needed to read something agreeably idiotic and Sherlock Bones - the story of "the great English detective" reincarnated as a pipe smoking pup and solving crimes in a Japanese high school - certainly qualified. Done with panache and a reasonable amount of cleverness - shame about the occasional T&A.

Yeah okay so this series is fun and fluff, and also SUPER SEXIST wow. So many boobs. So much lechery. Yet I'm going to keep reading it because it's kind of what I need right now. Would I recommend it? No. Am I going to keep reading it? Yes.

A manga about Sherlock Holmes being reincarnated as a dog. Was expecting a bit of mindless fun but I hated it. The character designs are adorable; the surprising amount of misogyny is not.

The mystery itself was, in my opinion, well done! It trusted the reader to remember little moments of foreshadowing from earlier on that were rewarded during conclusions. The art style is fun, and I really enjoyed the killer being shown as a genuinely smart and capable person, leading to such a challenging case.

But I give this a 3.5/5 stars mostly because its use of some common manga tropes made me somewhat uncomfortable while reading. Potential romantic relationships between students and teachers & provocative imagery of teen girls, primarily. As someone who's enjoyed manga and anime since childhood, I understand these are tropes common... but it was still uncomfortable enough to dock points. I'm also a little picky on iterations of Sherlock himself, and some choices were made that I didn't enjoy quite as much.

Takeru's newly adopted dog turns out to be a reincarnation of Sherlock Holmes.

I'm giving this four stars because it did exactly what it should have done - delivered fun, cute manga with just a touch of mystery. Don't go into this one expecting deep thoughts, but it is a step above a kid story. Sherdog is adorable and the artwork as a whole is pretty good. I didn't really need the images of Sherdog looking at a woman's breasts (and then they get bigger in the next picture, and then bigger still in the third). As far as I remember, Sherlock was never that big on the ladies anyway.

I'll be reading the next in the series when I need a hit of cute.

Etsiväkoira Sherdock on uusi tuttavuus. Sinänsä siinä on ihan hauska ja mangamainen premissl: koiratarhalta adoptoitu pentu on Sherlock Holmesin uusi ruumiillistuma, jonka jälkeen ratkotaan rikoksia ja mysteerejä 😅

Tarina toimii ihan kivasti. Tässä ensimmäisessä kirjassa keskityttiin esittelemään hahmoja ja ratkaisemaan rikosta, jonka myötä Sherdockin toiminta metodeja tehtiin tutuksi.

Kuvistus on selkeää ja siistiä. Hieman kyllä otti silmään, miten luokanvalvoja ja hänen "avunsa" tuotiin esiin. Muuten hahmot oli varsin realistisia ja toimivia.

Suosittelen tätä kirjaa kaikille, joita manga, dekkarit ja jännä näkemys Sherlock Holmes-tarinaan kiinnostavat 😊

I normally don't go in for series that look like they might be long running (although a quick google search just now shows that this series was comprised of only 7 volumes), but the premise of this was so cute that I couldn't help but give it a quick peek. About a few minutes in, I decided that I wanted to own this and its second volume.

The premise of this series is incredibly similar to Detective Conan, enough to where I'm sure that some will probably disregard this entirely because they think it's just another clone. It might have some origin as a DC clone, but this is unique enough to where I really hope that people will give this a genuine chance to win their attention.

The artwork in the volume is your typical serialized manga fare. It's nice enough to where you won't see it as sloppy or half-hearted, but it's not as detailed as other serialized mangas have been. I think that this works in the series favor for the most part, as a more detailed and painstaking artwork job would have turned this into a more serious Kindaichi-esque series. That would work against the whole concept of a crime solving dog, so I'm glad that they stuck with the lighter hearted artwork feel.

Overall this is fairly cute and I enjoyed it enough to buy the next volume without having read it. So far I like it, although I don't know if I love it enough to really commit to buying the whole manga series by myself. I'll probably go in on it with a friend and swap out volumes as we collect them.

Can you say cute?

I'm on a Sherlock Holmes kick right now. I'm obsessed with the BBC show (Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott...squee!). I'm reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes to gain an appreciation for the original. And here I find a manga take-off on the world's most famous consulting detective.

Like most manga series, this is hilariously ridiculous. But in a good way - you get the feeling that the mangaka realizes the silliness of the series, whereas other series I've read take themselves too seriously.

The volume starts out with Takeru (the Chinese characters of his full name can be pronounced Wa-to-son) adopting an adorable dog. Turns out the dog is Sherlock Holmes reincarnated. And what's more he has a psychic link to Takeru - and only to him - so they can communicate.

Like the real Sherlock, Sherdog is both arrogant and a genius. He drags Takeru into the middle of a suspected murder. It's a revenge killing for a case of bullying that led to a suicide. We find out who the killer is right away. The suspense comes in revealing how Sherdog knew it was her through his deductions.

Definitely a great series for a laugh. I'm going to read more.

Okay so this one is about Sherlock Holmes as a dog. Yep, you read that correctly. I picked this up because I honestly it just looked ridiculous. Obviously they have taken some liberties with the Sherlock character so don't go into this expecting a good Sherlock Holmes adaptation. It's really more about a boy and his talking dog who keep stumbling into mysteries that need solving. There were a few minor pervy parts that were just weird, but aside from that I found this manga enjoyable.

I'm Takeru Wajima. A second- year at London Academy High School. I was just an average high school student until I brought my new dog Sherdog home from the shelter. Believe it or not, the dog is the reincarnation of the legendary detective, Sherlock Holmes!! And there's an old pipe that he says belonged to Holmes. When he puts it in his mouth, he can communicate with human speech! I barely had time to get over the shock, when, before I knew it, Sherdog witnessed a terrible crime...

I do come across the strangest of books in our local charity shop and this was something I couldn't resist as they had the first two volumes.

The premise is simple. The spirit of the master detective, Sherlock Holmes has reincarnated into the body of a rescue dog. Convinced that his adoptive parent Takeru Wajima is in-fact the reincarnation of trusted sidekick Doctor John Watson, Sherlock opens up communication with the now very confused student.

When Sherlock, aka Sherdog, witnesses a murder at Takeru's school, the pair are thrown into a game of cat and mouse with the killer as they look to disprove their seemingly impossible alabi.

A cracking start and the remaining volumes have been purchased from eBay. These are going to be my New Year treat. 4 1/2 stars.

This review is for books 1-3 in the series :3

I’m a sucker for detective stories, so I picked this up at the library. I was a little underwhelmed! The mysteries themselves are pretty easy to solve, or the solutions the detective (forgetting his name) provides are based on circumstantial evidence and speculation, for the most part. The art was okay, though I’m not a fan of Sherlock Holmes’s design (Why a cute little puppy? I’d think a German Shepherd would be more fitting...) Sherlock Holmes’s character kept flipping between super smart, unstoppable detective dog, to ditzy puppy that’s trying his best.

As with other reviews here, I have to point out the perverted scenes in this series... nothing too serious, but it’s the typical skirt-flipping and creepy stares by men— I mean, it is a shounen, but it just felt unnecessary.

Definitely give it a read if it sounds interesting, but its nothing show-stopping.

A friend loaned me several books in this series after I mentioned that my son had told me about some manga that he had read and enjoyed, and that he thought I might, also.
This involves a dog that has Sherlockian mystery solving skills that can talk to his person. I'm still getting used to reading from the back to the front, so every time I sit down to read these, I need to reset my brain, and it always kind of wears me out trying to figure out where I'm supposed to be on the page. That said, the stories and characters are enjoyable so I'll pick up the next one some time soon.

A friend of mine gave me this book years ago, and at that time I had never read any manga or had any interest. However, that has since changed and I decided to give this book a read.

It's definitely quirky, but unique. The writing wasn't fantastic but it wasn't terrible either, just middle of the road. I very much enjoyed this artist's work, it was very well illustrated and easy to follow.

I enjoyed it enough that I would read more into the series.

I had a lot of fun reading this! I think it's a nice escape for a Holmes fan. I found it at a used bookstore and picked it up on a whim with low expectations. It turned out to be a clever, well-thought-out mystery and a pretty faithful representation of Holmes (considering that he's been reincarnated as a little dog! haha). I enjoyed the way everything came together and am interested in the next one. :)

Pretty run-of-the-mill detective story, that features Literal Sherlock Holmes Reincarnated As A Dog. What's not to love?

...The fan service, that's not to love. I would have liked this volume much more if not for all the unnecessary boob and ass shots.

Favourite thing about this is that the dog is called "Sherdog" lmaoooo

I will read just about any take on Sherlock Holmes. This one has Sherdog, who can only talk to Takeru (Watson reincarnated) when he has a pipe in his doggie mouth. I don't know too many human who can talk with a pipe in their mouth!
