In the rush to the Tampa Airport, Abby meets a small group of elephants from the famous Elizabeth Siggins Wildlife Foundation fleeing the political horrors of Africa. Putting them under her protection and that of the Hive, she meets Tobi, the elderly matriarch of the small herd who will sacrifice herself to save a human and in return is rewarded with the ultimate gift the Womb can bestow. As the bedraggled group race to the Hive for protection, saving a few desperate souls as they go, the first bomb arrives. As the survivors and the wildlife struggle to adjust to the new pecking order in the Hive and the revelations of their own origins, a woman and her two grandchildren live through the hellish horror and complete breakdown of civilization aboveground as they struggle to reach the Hive where her husband awaits. Horror visits the struggling survivors as they learn the Earth will not support habitation for at least another one hundred years. But the biggest shock comes from the Womb as it extracts a huge penalty from the hapless people, tolling the demise of the human race. Short synopsis - The bedraggled group race to the Hive for protection, struggling with the wildlife underground, as a woman and her two grandchildren live through the hellish horror and breakdown of civilization aboveground, after the bombs.
This is the fourth book in the Species Intervention series. I still cannot say that I enjoy this series, as it is so dark, but it sure has me hooked! I do love it though!
Abby, Scotty, Jose, Echo and Chloe, along with Captain Cobby and his son, Kane, Peter, Ginger Mae, her daughter Daisy and Kenya are thrown together in a race against time to get to the Hive before the terrorists strike. Along the way they meet Johno and the herd of elephants he is transporting to The Bronx Zoo. As the first bomb falls, a woman and her grandchildren are caught in the horror. Trying to survive and get to her husband, who is waiting for them, will take all her courage and wits.
As I said previously, this is not the most enjoyable of series, but just like an observer watching a disaster unfold right in front of my eyes, I am completely fixated! The story is fast paced, edgy and very topical. This series is completely addictive, and just like a drug addict, I cannot wait for my next fix! There are just so many twists! Just when things are seemingly going along pleasantly (as much as they can in a disaster), the author throws the proverbial spanner in the works and the story spins in a completely different and (darkly) unexpected way! There are some shocking revelations, and more than a few unanswered questions, by the end of the book that have me itching to get hold of the next installment!
J.K. Accinni has written an amazing series that shows the darker side of humans that frankly disgusts and shames me. On a personal note: What I would love to do to those characters like Armoni and company would more than likely have me sent to prison, but I would feel no remorse as they would deserve everything they got! I think that even though I'm from the human race, I would side with Baby, Echo and every other alien who decided that they would wipe us off the face of the earth. The things that people do to animals and each other is disgusting and depraved. We, as the human race, need to somehow cure this disease (violence towards animals and each other) that is pervading society It seems to me, the more we progress technologically, the more unattached (emotionally) we have become to nature and ourselves. Maybe wiping humans out IS the solution! (Sorry, rant over!). Due to the violence and bad language, I do not recommend this book or series to younger readers. However, I highly recommend this book (and series) if you love Science Fiction or Dystopian genres. - Lynn Worton
Hive, enter stage left Lorna and Seth, newcomers, Lorna is a suburban grandmother and Seth is well, Seth is Seth.
Set Lorna, Seth, Lorna's granddaughters and a stray teenage girl against a post apocalyptic scene and I dare you to not make the choices Lorna makes, the same choices that she is beating herself up for at the end of the book.
Enter stage right. The Hive, the womb a place an entity which is set up to save the most precious commodity earth has, its animals. The Hive as we know it is what we as humans know as Heaven, Angels etc. I kept waiting for the author to upset my Christian values with this premise but she never did. She kept the hive logical and her explanations simple and easy to follow. No offence could be taken via her interpretation of the higher power we Christians call upon daily.
Now we have Abbey, Scotty and a hopscotch crew up old and new characters in the hive, waiting for the last bomb to drop. Literally. Armageddon is here and we started a war that nobody can win.
Now we have a few loops, twists, turns, and angles not explored hereto, the author has made human depravity obvious but never as obvious as in Hive. The exploitation of the weak in the midst of calamity is ride no reader will forget. But the Hive itself has a few secrets, what are Baby and Echo up to? Who is the man Will and Nettie is conversing with? What is up with the tiger? Is a deity beyond revenge? These questions I hope to have answered in The One asap because I have no doubt that I will read it as soon as it becomes available on Amazon.
I have to say this book did get on my nerves more than the others which I loved, hence the different stars, it was still very good but I think there was just too much going on again. I think the loran and Seth storyline really annoyed me. Why is it women in the middle of a disaster pick up a man near the site of a murder and never seem to connect the dots. It's a bit like films where people insist on going outside and get shocked when they get killed!! Also their journey seemed to take months when surely even in a car and with the back roads from one end of America to another it wouldn't take that long. Some of the characters now they arrive in the hive just seemed to be repeating themselves over and over as well. I think this book tied together Armageddon cometh well, they arrive at the hive and things change. But some things just didn't seem right, like I wrote above. It was a bit too busy I think. Having said that, the book was very good and I would recommend it, it just wasn't as good as the others. But then in a series it is very difficult to keep things going. Very good read and it wouldn't put me off recommending it.
This is the fourth book in the series and my absolute favorite!! There is so much emotions and conflict it gets you involved. It got me to thinking on how i would handle these certain situations and how i would handle it, and it also got me to thinking how much this really is true!
This book is a continuation of the stories were something in the world is going to happen and all Abby knows is that she is on a mission to help save the precious animals. But in all these she has to learn who she can trust and not to trust. Qho she can bring with her and not. She cant tell anyone what is going to happen just has to be trusted not even her love Jesse. Then you have Jesse that is trying to find his family and bring them home when the unexpected happens.
I could go on and on about this story cause there is no dull moment but dont want to give anything away so i suggest you start reading cause you will not be disappointed! And i hope you fall in love with everyone like i did.
Once again here is another book to add to my favorite list. I am completely loving this series and can't wait for the next book. The plot runs smoothly and I have fallen in love with the characters. I'd love to see this series made into a movie.
Abby is strong willed and focuses on her goals no matter what is going on around her. Her love for animals is also a plus. This made me grow fond of her. The tension begins in the beginning of the story had me hooked and I couldn't stop reading.
The only part that slowed me down was the move of the animals and how detailed it was. Other than that I loved this book and recommend it as well as the rest of the series.
The continuity of these books is superb. All of the characters from the previous books are in this one. The treatment of bringing those characters into this story keeps you glued and interested in the whole series. You'll be captivated by every single world. The story is so compellingly told that you're going to want for the aliens to destroy the whole human race. Only a gifted author can invoke such thoughts, emotional, and passion. Read this book. It's worth the time.
This continuing saga keeps pace with the first three books. As good as the first three were book four is just as good. Just got book five and will report on it when I finish (it won't be long).
This book seemed a lot shorter than the previous books but it was great to read about how different their world is now. Again written so realistically that you can be in the moment asking side Baby or Lorna
I finished the third book in the Species Intervention series a week ago, and because of the way it ended with so many questions still left unanswered, I couldn’t wait to start on Hive – which picks up exactly where Armageddon Cometh left off. Again, this was another instalment in the series which ended with a whole batch of new questions and mysteries, which will hopefully be addressed in the fifth book, The One.
“Are you alright, Peter?” “No, Abby, I’m not alright. My girlfriend is a professional whore, I abetted the murder of a psycho that held a gun on me for two days, I just finished watering some cats that weigh three times what I do and they know it, a camel spit in my face then shit on my feet, my boss that I cared for just turned out to be some kind of alien freak and we seem to be running for our lives with a boat full of hungry, dangerous, smelly creatures. And it’s hot.”
In Hive, Peter – one of the character’s I’m rooting for – still remains an enigma, and Kenya, past her baby’s due date, amuses the reader with more of her streetsmarts and wit. The reader finally get to know more about the Womb; home to Baby, Echo, Netty and Wil, but at the same time more questions are raised. Why are Baby and Echo sneaking off at night when everybody is asleep? Whose screams are coming through the walls in the hive? Who is lurking in the shadows?
If you’ve been following this series, you might’ve wondered along the way where Baby, Netty and Wil - characters from the first book, Baby - went and where they’ve been the past hundred or so years. Well, once the survivors and animals move into the hive, Netty, Wil and Baby is finally back in the picture and some of those questions are answered. The Womb is really a neat place to be, as the survivors discover once they get settled in. They soon realize though that in their new home, humans are now at the bottom of the food chain, and at the mercy of the Womb.
“She actually understood that humans as a species didn’t deserve this planet, but her heart bled with the thought of the uncorrupted babies and children that would perish.”
As civilization and the world fall apart on the outside of the Womb, new bonds and friendships are formed on the inside, and of course, as is typical from an author who likes to surprise and engage her readers, more secrets and mysteries come to the fore. One of the reveals is the significance of the numbers 6609; something I’ve been curious about since the start of the series. And maybe you think you’ve solved the mystery of who is going to be “the one”? Guess again!
“Their world now existed far beyond that of dog eat dog. Civilization now teetered on the insane edge of human eat human…”
By now I’ve grown accustomed to this author introducing new characters - a fair representation of persons from all walks of life - into each book to keep the story interesting, the anticipation building, and the plot lined with twists. I did find it difficult, however, to keep track of all the new and old characters. Because of the sheer volume of so many characters in the Womb, and the handful of new characters attempting to navigate their way through the destruction of America en route to the hive, I only managed to connect to some of the characters, but couldn’t relate to any of them.
“…is that all men can think of in a disaster, to revert to beasts? No-not beasts. Beasts don’t rape and murder. That’s what man does.”
Seth’s character, taking the place of Armoni, adds a lot to the suspense as newcomer Lorna flees with her grandchildren across a country falling into ruin, in hopes of finding her husband and safety in the hive. The character I felt the most heartbroken about is Suzie. I’m appalled at the implied horrors awaiting this poor little five-year-old.
Hive is disturbingly fraught with violence, cruelty and brutality, but as in the previous books, this is used as a necessary tool to realistically place the reader in the midst of thechaos and breakdown of civilization, and show - instead of tell - the reader how evil man can be and how this iniquity can extend man’s cruelty to his fellow human beings. Not surprisingly, this book gripped me from start to end, and once again I was deeply absorbed by the many topics the author so passionately write about. Overall, Hive was an amazing read which left me speechless long before its shocking finale. As I did with all the books in this splendid series so far, I have high expectations of The One, which will hopefully bring a satisfying conclusion to this remarkable series.
First let me say I LOVE this cover! I love elephants they are one of my favorite creatures, and the way this cover is drawn just makes me get all giddy inside. Now that aside let me get on with my review.
I honestly believe that J.K. Accinni could be a bestselling author! The way she can weave a story and tell it is just stupendous. I have not been disappointed with her books at all and after reading the Hive I am so wanting more. I want to know who this stranger is that is in the background of the Hive, what is Netty and the gang up to while sneaking off, will Kenya ever have her baby, will the new characters Lorna and her grandbabies ever be reunited with her husband Clyde?
Even though there were a few grammar mistakes the book overall was wonderful. This author once again captures you from the first page and leaves you wanting more at the very end.
The same people that were in book 3 Armageddon Cometh are in here along with new characters and of course old characters from book 1! Echo, Abby, Scotty, Jose, Chole, Peter, Ginger Mae her daughter Daisy, Kenya, Captain Cobby, and his son Kane are all on a race of time to get to where they need to go with the animals before something horrible happens. While traveling they end up meeting a group of people that are transporting elephants to the Bronx Zoo. Will they ever make it to the Hive before the unthinkable hits? Will they all be able to adjust living in the Hive, and be okay with what the Hive has to offer them. Something creepy happens to everyone even the animals while they sleep and that has me intrigued on what is the Hive really doing. Baby and Echo get to reunite and it is so sweet to see them together.
There are new characters that will come into play and let me tell you my heart literally broke for them. Lorna, Jen, Susie, and the hitchhiker they picked up (which plays a small part) I found myself just gasping and hoping that at the end they will be okay. They themselves pick up someone named Seth is not at all who he seems to be. What he did I just can not explain, lets just say he was very gruesome, and I could see why the Hive wants to get rid of all humans. Hell I would want to get rid of them too.
I have to say there was one part that truly got to me and I just re-read the part to make sure I read it right. But it got to me literally because what kind of monster or monsters in this case could do this. "On the side of the road they noticed a crowd of jeering men and boys. Driving by slowly, Lorna witnessed a man on top of a young woman. Her clothes lay strewn on the ground as they man raped her. Two other men stood with their pants at their ankles........ What looked to be the victim's car stood nearby with the doors wide open, her purse on the ground and a child strapped in his car seat alone in the back." Being a mom that is one of my worst fears, something like that happening it just really made me cringe.
I am interested in this "The One" business and the tiger Caesar, he seems to have become quite protective of Scotty and I really would like to know why. I enjoyed reading the details of the Hive and what the Hive gives to everyone there. Especially the animals.
These series of books are a dark type of read. I would not recommend this book to those of a younger audience, I would recommend this for more of a Mature audience as there are parts that make you cringe and truly wonder about the human race. If you enjoy a Sci-fi, dystopian type book or series, then go and get your copy now! You will not be disappointed.
Fourth book in the Alien Species Intervention #6609, which spans a couple of centuries from the early 20th century into a vividly-imagined and traumatic future. In this book, the world faces annihilation as nuclear war wreaks near-total destruction. Humans are no longer the dominant species, and survival is the only game in town. We follow the frantic rush to reach the Hive on the part of Lorna and her grandchildren, and escape from Seth's clutches. There are violent, searing scenes in the story, graphically described in detail. The author has created a haunting, scary image of a world in the midst of destruction, and the demise of civilization, with its only hope a handful of individuals we are rooting for, despite the sense of despair and doom. Great stuff.
Again, we delve into Hive straight out of AC (Armageddon Cometh.) Loved that the Author wrote it this way for us.
I can say that AC and Hive are my favs! That says a lot because Baby and Echo just weren't cutting it for me. The Authors story telling is getting better as the series grows deeper. Her writing is finally picking up the pace and had me reading through this book at 100 mph. Can't wait for that next one! It has definitely piqued my interest!
May contain some spoilers, readers read at your own risk. You've been warned!
The plot and characters are starting to get more interesting. The clans Captain Cobby, Kane (Captains son.) Ginger Mae, Daisy (Ginger Mae's daughter.) Johno and his crew (Elephants and other animal lovers.) Kenya (teen girl doing community service for the zoo.) Dezi and Clyde (truckers.) Lorna, Susie and Jennifer (Clyde's wife and grand kids.) Maryann (stranded teen straggler.) Seth (random guy/turned hitch hiker/psycho.) Along with the original Clan that is- Baby, Netty, Wil, Abby, Jose, Scotty, Echo, Barney, Peter, and Chloe. There is more that I know are getting left out but I'm going off of memory here, these are some that just stuck.
Everyone finally finds their places in the Hive. We watch what enfolds during the bombing/end-of-the-world, through Lorna's journey to the Hive. Though some of her decisions are rash and unobtrusive, this leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Thought she was better than that! I'm pulling for her to NOT make it, especially after that ending/cliffhanger!
I have to say that Seth (Lorna's companion to the Hive) is really sick. *GAG* And where was his "history" story at? We got the other sick bastards (Armoni's) story in the previous book(s). Why didn't we get his?
This, along like the other books is dark. Its always so sad. I want just one book, hopefully the last book and willing that it be the next book, for it to have a HEA! (I've stated this in one of my previous reviews for this series.) With no violence or minimal if at all possible... sadness. PLEASE! This dark and twisted stuff is getting old, fast. (The One, was supposed to be out February of this year, where is it at?) I NEED that book like yesterday! *hint hint*
Once more, this has violence, sexual context, depicted and degrading scenes. Readers should be 18+.
In Hive it becomes finally clear why the series is called Species Intervention #6609. The human race is so depraved that in the past the Womb has intervened through creatures like Baby and Echo – and not just once but 6609 times, showing that humanity doesn’t learn and is destined to fail. This is the dystopian element: the fact that Homo Sapiens destroys all life forms and Earth itself and therefore does not deserve to survive. The real chosen ones are the innocent animals, the human life that is rescued is of no meaning to the Womb.
Live in the Hive is the most wonderful fairy tale come true – it is completely self supportive and has amazing out-of-this-world abilities. It is in stark contrast with what happens above ground in the ‘real’ world, where we follow what happens through the wife and grandkids of one of the truck drivers, who are desparately trying to make their way to the Hive.
Various leads from previous books show up and become clear and other leads are expounded upon, making me ever more curious for the next – and unfortunately last – book in the series.
The rescue of animals to the Hive is akin to the rescue of animals by the arch of Noah – where also the human race was found severely lacking in their original purpose. As Wil shares the history of the Hive, a comparison to the fall of mankind is recognizable with the same punishment: no longer is immortality attainable. However, Wil, Netty and Barney are very much alive after their death! This is achieved through cloning and mind transfer. The question that remains: is redemption possible? And what does it mean that Scotty is The One?
While reading the second half I felt like I became part of the group residing in the Hive – and I can’t wait to read what happens next to “us”! Please hurry up, mrs Accinni! :-)
Okay I just finished the first 4 parts of the Species Intervention books and I must say I agree with some of the reviews, the introduction of some of the new characters is a bit much. I am truly disappointed with what happened to Suzie wont give anything away for that of spoiling the book for readers, but I found that some of the events that happened were just filler, that took away from what the book was really about. I love the characters of Nelly, Baby, Wil, Abby, Jose and Scotty and even a few of the others but it seems too many characters make it hard to remember their back stories. You get confused about who is who. I look forward to reading The One, as of this date has yet to be released although the book should have been out a few weeks ago. If I had known I would have to purchase 5 books I would never have started this series. It seems that one book would have been sufficient to tell this story. The Author could have broken it down to maybe 2 if they thought it would be too long for one. I paid $20 to read the first four now I have to pay another 5 to read what I hope is the final. If not I will not be finishing the series as they are digital copies and I would rather spend my that kind of money on a book with an ending. I do like the premise that mankind is destroying itself and innocent animals are be exterminated for reasons that are ridiculous. I think the author has made her point in the telling of the story and why the animal species is so important. I also like the sci-fi type twist to the book..Overall I would recommend this book only if you don't mind spending the money to read all 5 books. I would also wait until the final book comes out to order them as they are very quick reads I read all four books in a few days.

I can't say that I have ever read a series so quickly, but I was given the series and I gobbled them up. Like the other 3 books (Baby, Echo, Armageddon Cometh) Hive is certainly no different. You can taste the talent J.K. has because she simply makes the books flow, one to another and in such a sense that you will be forever reveling in a world of what if and is it really happening in that sense? I am NOT one to read sci-fi or paranormal things in this nature, but something drew me to what she had going on. In Hive we pick up on things already going on and carried over from Armageddon Cometh, but not in a sense that it couldn't stand alone and be descriptive and capture-because it could and would! However, I feel like things heat up, become more desperate, and are more truth bewildering in Hive. I understand the struggle, the sense of urgency, and the connection J.K. is making to things in life now. As horrifying as things in the book can be, it very much is a real situation in life today. JK gives you some shocks you didn't expect, some turns unknown, and then leaves you wanting and needing more.... speaking of which---is book 5 DONE YET?!?!?! This is an amazing series, and Hive, book 4 in the series, certainly does not let you down! Honestly-its another one of those movie moments-make you cry when you read it, make you feel the essence of the what each character is feeling, and shed the tears with the heartbreak! 5 stars isn't enough for the series I thought I would never pick-up!
I don't know where the author got her ideas for this story. She has a vivid imagination. Everything was perfect. I loved the characters. I loved the plot. I sat down and read this book in a few hours. I just could not pull away. So fastanating the way Netty, Wil and Baby make an appearance. So many secrets. So much to learn. The Hive sounds like it would be an awesome place to stay. So many awful things were happening outside the Womb. When The guy named, Seth came along. I thought finally someone nice. I was so dead wrong. The authors series is so full of suprises and pain. Very few happy times when dealing with everything Abby had to do. Everything didn't work out as planned. Abby tried her best to do as Netty asked of her. The people that followered Abby, Scotty Jose and the animals were getting restless and confused and wanted answers. With Netty, Wil and Baby's help, Thing would soon fall into order. Not knowing how long they had to stay in the Hive worried some. Some of their loved ones were still out in the choas beyond the Hive. Losing hope of ever see them again. Friendship and relationships start to form bonds as they try to live out the Armageddon and survive. The story has you hanging with so many unanswered questions. I hope book 5 comes soon. Thank you. JK Accinni I'm sorry for your loss of your own ECHO.
Hive is the fourth book in the Species Intervention #6609 series. I received an electronic copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
As with the other books in the series, Hive takes up where the previous book ends. The group of people and wild animals are traveling from Florida to New Jersey, seeking refuge from the imminent apocalypse. Just before they reach New York City, word comes of the first bombing in Las Vegas. It all goes downhill from there. The group makes it to the Hive in the nick of time, where they must adjust to their new status as secondary citizens, whose only task is to care for the all-important wildlife. The humans on the outside that survive the bombings go through incredible horrors, as one would expect after a nuclear holocaust. Another villain appears on the scene, one that you will absolutely hate.
There are some clichéd moments – why would an intelligent woman with two granddaughters to protect allow a man they didn’t know to ride with them, for example. And this book also has several graphic, violent scenes… scenes that are difficult to read, but serve to ably illustrate the horrific times that any human survivors of a nuclear holocaust would be forced to endure. The book ends at a point where you just want to scream “NO – it can’t end here!”. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 5!
This books moves very quickly as the Earth is destroyed by the greed of politicians world wide. It's clear we DO NOT deserve this planet as the author's timely and perceptive conclusions indicate.
Having met Caesar the great tiger that guards Scotty and his girlfriend who is recovering from a wild blind side, I am prepared for ANYTHING to happen.
Netty moved to the forefront as she explains the rules in the magical Hive. I love the nostalgic possessions from her farm, ties the books all together beautifully. We find out exactly what happened to Netty and crew after their deaths. We also find out the real story behind our own origins and who God really is.
Lorna and her grandchildren are going through the most evil hell above ground as they try to find their was to the Hive but encounter the henious dark side of man instead. I pray they make it but it is clear they will never be the same again. I just loved Lorna's last scene at the end of the book. I could feel her dispare and hopelessness and I felt as filthy and broken down as the author discribed her.
Poor Kenya has not had her baby yet even though it is waaaaaay past her due date. (Love her sassy and wise outbursts) Lots of love intrigue going on in the Hive. No one is aging, they are getting fitter and health conditions are healing.
This series is just terrific and I am anxious to read on!
J Kelly Accinni packs a powerful message into her books which make you question the point of humanity. In many ways, I have to agree: homo sapiens really do not deserve this planet! I can barely watch the news without being disgusted by some of the depravities carried out by our species; the sadistic pleasure some derive from hurting the most innocent. This is a book which stays with you, it is so utterly compelling and thought provoking.
In the aftermath of a shocking nuclear apocalypse, a select group of humans (and a consignment of rescued animals) are drawn to the alien subterranean sanctuary where the series first began. It was wonderful to be reconnected with characters from the first book who are joined by a whole medley of newer characters - and I am yet to understand the mysteries of the hive which unite them. In the outside world society has broken down. There are shocking scenes when a lone female survivor and her daughters fall prey to a predatory psychopath who pretends to rescue them. I found myself gunning for their safety and now desperate to find out what happens to them.
I will definitely be reading the rest of the series, disturbing or not! And I must say, I love the author’s writing style. She tells it like it is and where a profound love of animals really comes across.
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
Again the author weaves an amazing story that takes us deeper into the world of Echo and Baby two creatures whose golden fur and tails have changed the lives of so many around them including mine! With the world as we know on the brink of destruction the story starts off where Book 3 Armageddon Cometh ends on a boat full of animals being taken to a cargo plane headed north. Wow the excitement doesn't stop as time runs out and we find everything happening fast. New characters are brought in some sweet and innocent others bringing that darker element to the mix. I would hate to imagine the end being like the author portrays it, but the most unnerving part of the story is the realism of what life after bombs would be like. Famine, looting, murder all comes into play as a small group of characters try to make it to safety in New Jersey. Others find their new life in the Hive different and shocking but everything they will ever need is waiting for them. I was so entranced and immersed into this story I practically read the whole thing in one sitting. If you loved Echo and Baby before, you will love them all the more now. I can't wait for the next book!
What a fast-passed book! The trials of getting the animals they rescued to the shelter and saving the ones at the Bronx zoo has you on the edge of your seat. So many little things go wrong. The tension among the friends is palpable. Jose is having feelings of jealousy as the relationship between Abby and Captain Cody blossomed into one of mutual trust and support, his past has thrown him for a loop, Scotty's girlfriend is in shock, Peter is lost in an emotional pit. Worry all the animals are going to decide to attack is on their minds. A boat ride, a plane trip, truck hauling.
Man starts the Earth's destruction before they can get the planes where they are going and the race is on!
Cloyd, one of the truckers has told Abby he must rescue his wife and granddaughters. They arrange for Lorna to drive up to the cave. As more bombs hit, the trip takes a twist of it's own!
Will Lorna find Susan and get them all to safety? Will Seth cause problems at the hive?
Can people adjust to this new living arrangement?
What secrets are Baby and Echo keeping? Who is "father"? Why is Ceasar obsessed with Scotty and just what is meant by "The One"? Why are those working in the library always coming back so dirty?
OMG I need book 5!!! I can’t wait until tomorrow! This book, if possible, drags you in further. You actually feel the tension, the emotions are all over the place. I think my heart stopped in one or two places reading this. The journey continues with Abby, Jose & Scotty, as well as a few others they gather along the way. Including animals! Netty, Wil & Baby reappear in this book as more than a fleeting visit. At some point during this book I realised that the story switches from 1st person to 3rd person and back again. I was that drawn into the story I didn’t see it at first. Hell it could have been going on in all the previous books! I could clearly see in my mind the scenes playing out, all the mindless destruction and the ensuing aftermath, also the beauty of the Hive. The characters in this book are all relevant and the introduction of the new characters works really well. I’m was pleased to see I was right about Jose and his past but ask me to predict what’s going to happen in book 5 and I could tell you. Although there are lots of questions I just can’t seem to come up with any possible scenarios to how book 5 will play out. Again excellent writing, draws you in, keeps you hostage & leaves you wanting more!
Book 4 already in the series, and Earth is changing faster than people expected. The book picks up right where book 3 ended, so it's easy to read the books one after another. Would have been a pity to have to wait for the continuation, but luckily there are already 5 books published!
The atmosphere in the book changes a lot from inside the rescue place Baby and Echo showed the humans and animals, and the outside where the rest of the people are trying to survive. The pictures from outside are probably a lot like you could expect in reality, but I would have appreciated a bit less violent description of certain things. You don't have to write out everything to get the idea across to your readers!
As our main characters are getting their daily routine organised in the Hive, we follow a few persons that are still on the road there (seems to last forever to reach it though!) And we still have to wait for the next book to know the outcome.
Some questions were answered in this book, lots of new questions came up that are now waiting for us to discover to truth! Looking very much forward to the next book in the series!
ps. I received a free copy of this e-book through a promotion for the series, this has in no way influenced my opinion expressed above!
Hive is the fourth book in the Species Intervention Series. In this book we pick up right were we left off. Abby, Jose, Scotty, Echo and the gang are on a race against time to get to the hive before the world is destroyed by terrorist. Along the way we meet Johno and his heard of elephants headed to the Bronx Zoo who wind up heading to the hive as well. Will they be able to co exist in the Womb for a century? Meanwhile we meet a woman and her grandchildren who are trying to brave this new and scary world to make it to the safety of the Womb where her husband is. Will they make it, or will they die trying?
Accinni did another amazing job on this one. As with book three I began reading it at in five short hours I was done! The story just keeps getting better and better. I never expected myself to like a scifi series/dystopian series reader. However, this series has me hooked! Just like a drug I just crave more and I can't wait for the next book The One to be released so I can see how the story ends! Who is the ONE?? By Amanda Foust of www.FaeBooks.co.uk
The intensity of Accinni's "Species Intervention" series has reached a crescendo in "Hive." Book Four delivers the author's amazing story-telling again with startling surprises, mind-boggling twists and turns and an eagerness in this reader to keep going (evidenced by my reading of Echo, Armageddon and now Hive in the past 5 days).
SPOILERS
Many answers have been revealed including a revival (choice of words intended) of Netty, Baby and Wil. The "6609" number finally makes sense, too, which is good to know.
As with the prior books, there is a level of violence and intensity (brutal sexual assaults as well as the truck running over "bumps"" in the road) which show that despite the brilliant and unique story-telling, this series is not for the easily bothered or the faint of heart. The violence is never for the sake of violence though and adds to a compelling level of drama I cannot recall ever experiencing in a series.
I will be jumping into "Evil Among Us" tomorrow and then gasping for more as I await "The One."
Hive is the fourth book in the species intervention series and this one throws together some characters we have previously been introduced to and loved along the way.
In line with the other books, this also has a dark side, which depicts a lot of brutality and scenes that are not suitable for younger readers. The plot includes scenes of sexual abuse and I felt intense sympathy for the character Suzy in particular. You will understand why when you get into the thick of this book.
After the destruction, the Hive is the only place of safety left on earth. The author unravels the story in a fast paced manner, without scrimping on the important details. The animals are a running theme within this series and its great to continue to read acts of selflessness!
One of my favourite tendencies of this author, is her ability to explain aspects from the previous editions. Slowly but surely we begin to understand certain things that left us in anticipation! There are some new issues raised in this book and as you guessed it, I will be reading the next book to find out!
The world has been devastated and our survivors found a place to ride out the bombs thanks to Netty and the Aliens. I guess we should thank the Womb too.
The world aboveground is a cesspool of violence and lawless behavior. Lorn and her grandchildren are trying to get to the Hive where she had been promised safety because her hubby was one of the truck drivers that help saved the rescued wildlife. And what a remarkable place the Hive is.
This book moves very fast, excitement around every corner. I could feel Lorna's despair ala The Road will she make it with psycho Seth having revealed himself? What are the tendrils that come out of the walls at night to enter the sleeping bodies of the survivors? And what of poor Suzy? My heart went with her as the men that kidnapped her disappeared into the night leaving poor Lorna devastated.
Each book I read gets better and better. The writing is dynamic and vocabulary sophisticated. One to the next chapter. I received the book for an honest review.
