There is so much ooey goodness in this book! I'll just have to give you a list and call it my review:

1. The vampire army is taking a vacation at EuroDisney.

tough place!

2. Cimil is now a housemaid for an old vampire and spends her time ironing his many many capes.

Cimil is always fabulous!

3. Vampires have a reason why they wear leather pants and they get a discount for buying in bulk.

No, please no!

4. There is an official list of "Immortal Groveling Instructions" for when you upset a deity, and it is both epic and hilarious.

I don't know what's more annoying: being the grovelee or the groveler.

5. The goddess of suicide is also the goddess of spices so watch out or she'll hex you with some cayenne pepper.

I can see why. It looks good on you!

6. Weird is the new normal.

nothing strange about this. Totally normal.

If you haven't read this series yet, you need to start from the beginning because every freaking one of them ends in cliffhangery hell. But, it is totally worth it because they keep getting better and better as this wacky world with insane gods and monsters develops. So much fun!

Vampires Need Not… Apply is the fourth book in the Accidentally Yours series by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. Everything is really ramping up in this book. Not only are we still dealing with the issues of the existing characters from the previous books, we meet a new character. And Cimil’s devious actions have caused chaos in everyone’s lives and may lead to the end of the world as we know it.

Meet Antonio Acero who is a physicist with many secrets. Antonio’s dreams are haunted by a woman’s eyes and voice begging him to set her free. And what he needs to do that is the tablet which he conveniently found. He needs to find a way to reopen the portal to set this mysterious woman free. But then he meets Ixtab. She is the Goddess of Suicide. No living person can touch her, but for some unexplained reason, Antonio can. Could Ixtab be Antonio’s fated mate? But what of the woman in his dreams? And why does Ixtab wear those ridiculous black clothes and veil? What does she look like under there? Is she hideous?

“She was his bliss, mind, body, and soul. He would never get enough, not for a sense of lacking, but for a sense of pure joy.

Ixtab has been alone for 70,000 years, never allowed the touch of another. Until she meets Antonio. He is the most beautiful man she has ever seen. Can she finally remove her veil and show him her true self? Could it be that someone might finally possibly love her?

Cimil’s plans are all coming together and she has wreaked havoc in all the lives of the deities. Her reasons are not clear for the horrible things she has caused to happen. In the beginning of this series, I wanted to believe there was a good reason, that there was goodness in her. But now I can’t say that I feel that way any longer. She has caused so much pain and destruction. As in all the previous books, this book is full of great one liners, snarkiness, sarcasm, and of course, love. All of our characters, though, have much to overcome, much to conquer. And we are left with quite a cliff hanger. But I will have to wait along with everyone else until book 5 comes out, to see how it is all worked out.

Note: Due to some mature content, this series is for appropriate readers only.

Don’t you just love when the wealthy, brilliant, hot, handsome and confirmed bachelor with a self-important attitude gets knocked down a few pegs, or maybe to his knees? It’s even better when the woman who does it is a deadly deity! Vampires Need Not … Apply? by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff once again will give your face muscles the workout of their lives as you smirk, smile and outright guffaw at the antics and banter of her characters! Can you imagine falling for the goddess of suicide, the girl with the deadly touch? Antonio finds an ancient Mayan tablet and finds his life has hit a definite fork in the road. Could there be a future for Ixtab and Antonio?

If mythology was taught in school with the same flare as Mimi Jean Pamfiloff tells her tales, there would have been a lot more “A’s” on those report cards! Blending each twist and turn perfectly, filling them with snark, humor and brilliantly lovable characters, Ms. Pamfiloff has once again, created some spellbinding paranormal romance with just the right touch of spice!

Thank the gods Mimi Jean Pamfiloff missed her calling as a comedienne and became an author! I received this review copy from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) in exchange for my honest review.

Another fantastic instalment in the Accidently Yours series. This one is about Ixtab the Goddess of Suicide and Antonio the Vamp-ubus or Incu-pire. It's getting more hilarious as we near the apocalyse. A lot happened in this book. The Vampire army is still vacationing in Euro Disney and Cimil is ironing Roberto's capes... yeah that had nothing to do with the Apocalypse. Cimil's evil plans are all coming together nicely. That Goddess is so unpredictable...I have no idea how this is going to go down. Penelope and Kinich got back together, which was the best part of the book and Ixtab has become my favorite Goddess. She should be called the Goddess of Snark. I must say this series has really grown on me and I love Mimi's writing.

First off, if you love reading books that will make you LOL and I do mean literally Laugh Out Loud, to the point where you almost have tears running out of your eyes, you HAVE to check out this series. I have been a fan since book 1 and I just have to say, they keep getting better and better with each book that comes out. This book does not disappoint in any sense, the characters, the story, everything was just done amazingly well.

Ixtab, oh what to say about her. I want to say that she’s sweet and funny, but she really isn’t. But she tries! And that is the important part, right? Throughout the book we are lucky enough to see her try to become something that she isn’t. (Yes, I’m talking about her becoming a comedian.) But we are able to follow along as she does become something that she is. (Confusing, well read the story and you will understand!) There were some parts of the book where her character is so misunderstood that you would want to just give her a hug, but then you remember what she is and you don’t do that. And other parts where you want to send her after your ex, trust me we all got one of ‘those’ ex’s.

Antonio is a jerk. Plain and simple. Even by the end of the book I wasn’t sure if I liked him. I mean honestly, he’s hot, got sex appeal, smart, and can do that one thing. (You know you want to know). But there are some times in the book that there that little part of him that comes out and you realize that he is a really sweet guy; a caring guy, who only wants the best for everyone. And then the real Antonio comes back and you just want to smack him.

Like I said, I have been a complete fan of this series since book 1 and they are just amazing. Each of the characters, no matter how minor their role is in the story, does extremely well. They are all written to where they don’t take over the scene that they are in, unless they are suppose too. The drama that takes part, just goes to show that sometimes things aren’t always what they seem.

I can’t wait to read the rest of the series! This is a complete MUST READ from me and you should add it to your TBR list now!

The intriguing supernatural battle between good and evil keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Dr Antonio Acero is trying to decode an ancient Mayan tablet that is rumored to have magical properties that could put his research on the map. But fate has other plans, Ixtab is quite probably the deadliest deity that ever lived and she needs him to use the tablet to open the portal and free the other gods.

This steady to fast paced plot keeps readers guessing with lots of action, suspense, romance and surprising twists that the reader doesn’t see coming. The author brings the story to life with vivid imagery, details and wonderful charming and compelling characters that grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The attraction between Ixtab and Antonio radiates from the pages but proceeds at a slow sensual burn that keeps readers in suspense as both have personal issues that have to be resolved and not to mention the numerous events that continually interrupt. Their relationship also inspires a few chuckles in the midst of the drama as Antonio has trouble listening and Ixtab has trouble talking which makes for some entertaining scenes.

The anticipation builds throughout the series with the coming end of the world battle. The characters are insanely hilarious and at the same time bewitching and scary which makes the whole story pretty complex and mysterious. The reader has a hard time trying to predict what will happen next, much less figure out who the actual bad guys are. To spice the story up even more, there is always more than one thing going on at a time but the author manages to convey all this in a timely and well written way that inspires curiosity without confusing the readers.

That being said I highly recommend that this series be read in order as the battle is ongoing and the events are all interconnected, dropping into the middle may very well be confusing especially with the many different characters involved.

Prologue. Emma's grandma came propositioning for them to relase Chaam in exchange to forty of their most loyal vampire soldiers, the God of Death and War, aka Emma’s fiancé, and the General of the Vampire Army, aka Helena’s husband.
She only needed to get him through these first days as a vampire. And orchestrate a rescue mission for the God of Death and War and the General of the Vampire Army. And deal with the return of Emma’s evil granny. And figure out how to stop an impending apocalypse set to occur in eight—yes, eight!—months. They captured Emma's granny. Kinich wakes up and tried to drink from Penelope's neck. Tsk3. Helena said they've found a tablet which can save their trapped soldiers.

New years day. NY CIty.
34 year old Antonio Acero keeps on getting nightmares of a woman asking for help. It had been the same damned nightmare every night for the last month. Ever since he’d found that fucking tablet in Mexico. Or had it found him?
Ixtab wished a male would love her enough to behave like a complete ass. Or not die when she touched him by accident. Either-or.

Dr. Antonio Acero. World-renowned physicist from MIT, heir to Spain’s wealthiest family, current owner of the tablet, and the only being on the planet capable of unlocking it. Something happened during his experiment, explosion occured and he lost his sight.
his condition has something to do with the tablet’s dark energy and may be reversible. In the meantime, he’s extremely… unhappy and refusing to continue his work.
She was asked by Penelope to cure him.
Penelope slid the folder toward Ixtab.
Ixtab opened it and felt her insides curl into a heavy knot. No. It can’t be. He looks like… Francisco.
But it wasn’t Francisco, because Francisco died long ago. Yes, she’d seen to that, hadn’t she? This… Antonio was simply a look-alike.
Ixtab paused outside Penelope’s bedroom door. The sobs could be heard from the other side of Arizona, but who could blame her, really? According to Fate, the rest of the summit meeting had not gone well thanks to Zac who arranged to have Kinich sent away. Worst of all, Kinich himself had agreed. He’d written a letter to his brethren, confessing his urge to kill Penelope and asked that she stay away from him. Indefinitely.

Exception being Kinich, of course. Poor guy. He lived for sunshine. And now he was anti-sunshine.
Mr. Cloud?
Kinich and Antonio were neighbors.

I thought I’d dreamt the entire thing. The scuba diving, finding the tablet inside a cenote, the Jeep starting on its own. But when I woke up in my bed back in New York, I knew. It had been fate.
Kinich chuckled. “Not Fate. Cimil. Fate doesn’t usually get her hands dirty with overly complicated jungle-based plots. This has Cimil written all over it.”

Ixtab gave Kinich a vial of Penelope's blood to make him desensitized of urge to tear Pen's neck. Antonio accidentally broke the vial and Kinich lost his control and accidentally bit Antonio. 😂
Kinich tried to kill himself by jumping from the window and Antinio is dying. So, they had to give him Viktor's blood.

Zac tried to glamour Pen to forget Kinich and to love him. Idiot. She’d have to bring this up at the next summit. Zac had gone too far. Not only had he known his gift and not told the others, but he used it on Penelope without permission. This was a violation of their most sacred law. Yep, right up there with no time travel. And wearing pants at the summit table. Okay, maybe that last one isn’t sacred, but it should be.

Zac isn’t the God of Love as we suspected, he’s the God of Temptation,” Ixtab blurted out. “And I’d bet my best pair of flip-flops, he compelled Kinich to want your blood more than anything on the planet.

I did what you asked, Cimil. And not only didn’t it work, but Ixtab discovered us.” Zac stared out the tinted window from the back of the limo at the passing cars, talking into his phone.
“Hmmm. That does sound like a furry pickle,” Cimil replied.
“This isn’t a fucking joke! I’ve lost her. And I’ll be tried for treason. This is all your fucking fault. Why the hell did I listen to you? But I did what you—!” The call ended and Zac had the distinct feeling that he’d just been duped into doing Cimil’s evil handiwork. Maybe he should go to his brethren and confess immediately before things got any worse. Wouldn’t they understand this situation? He couldn’t help that he loved Penelope, and he’d be damned to simply stand by and watch that son-of-a-bitch Kinich break her heart over and over again. Gods fucking dammit. This situation was beyond screwed. Because now Penelope hated him.

Kinich bit Penelope and got a dose of sunshine. Now she’s giving him a dose of her mind.

She were to assist Dr. dracula to unlock the tablet because he wanted to punish her for turning him into one and she promised to never leave him before.

Ixtab sighed. “No. It’s not. He hates me for having him turned into a vampire. And the ironic part is that he’s the only creature on the face of the planet I can touch. He’s immune to me. Even more ironic is that he’s the spitting image of the man I once loved and killed.” How odd. Confessing this dreary little fact about Francisco wasn’t nearly as hard as the time she’d told Kinich. Of course, she’d never told him the gory details.
“Interesting,” Julie replied with a little too much levity. “Sounds like fate playing its hand.”
Ixtab hissed.
“Oh, not your sister Fate, but divine fate—it’s much more precise and intelligent. Not that I don’t like your sister.”

Devastating was that he’d hurt—estúpido!—killed Ixtab. Killed her while she was doing that thing to him with her body and driving him mad in the most sexual of ways. Accidental or not, it was a terrible feeling. And there was nothing he could do about it.”

“Shit. What was happening to him? First blind, then he’d died and turned into a vampire, and now he was addicted to this goddess—who, he might add, wore a very unattractive outfit to hide herself and might actually look like a gremlin. What else could possibly get in the way of fulfilling his destiny and opening the portal?
How about killing Ixtab and immortal groveling?”

He came to the cenote offering immortal grovelling to her. So they finally get to her downtown but she screamed Francisco's name when she came. So Antonio left her. 😝
Ixtab sighed. “I’ll get the vampire physicist back.”

She fly to Spain to grovel. Antonio said he had no business with her as he need to open the portal and save his destined woman. Apparently Antonio has a twin who was also named Francisco or Franco. And their father's was also name Francisco.

The mystery of Antonio’s appetite was no longer one of them. He’d been gobbling all of her dark energy, which is why he left her feeling goddamned fantastic every time she touched him! That had to be the reason.

Ixtab and Antonio's fatrher was sucked into the portal afer Antonio managed to grab Maggie, Emma's grandma out. He saw Ixtab's face briefly and knew that was the face of woman appearing in his dream but the voice of Maggie who was calling for his help over and over again.

“Maggie looked around the table, and Antonio couldn’t help but wonder what sort of insane story she was about to tell. For the record, prior to meeting Ixtab, he’d thought his world was pretty damned strange. On the outside, he looked like a rich playboy from a privileged Spanish family, who owned the most prestigious wineries in Spain. In reality, his father was a monster who killed women for sustenance, including Antonio’s own mother. Antonio’s public and private lives couldn’t be more contradictory or bizarre. That’s what he believed, anyway, until he became a vampire—the least eventful part of this story—who loathed the thought of drinking blood before finding out evil Mayan priests made a tasty snack. Add that Ixtab, the Goddess of Suicide—a damned ridiculous title for such a lovely creature—was the love of his life and trapped with his demonic father in another dimension. Sí. Pretty fucking strange. Yet somehow, he knew they were only getting started as Maggie cleared her throat and lifted her chin.”

“About eighty years ago,” she said, “I accompanied my father, an archaeologist, on a dig in southern Mexico. It was a terrible time in our lives; my mother had passed away only a few months earlier, and unknown to me, my father had become obsessed with bringing her back. Also unknown was that the tablet he’d discovered”—Maggie looked at Antonio—“was no coincidence. Cimil planned for him to find it and made sure he believed it could resurrect the dead.”
“Can it?” asked Penelope.
Maggie nodded. “Yes. It can, though not the way you think; the tablet has the ability to open portals to other points in time in addition to other dimensions. So if one wanted, they could go back and save someone before they die. The problem is returning. The portal only stays open for a short while. So if one doesn’t carry another tablet or have someone to reopen the portal from their point of origin, they might not return. That said, my father never got far enough to figure any of that out. He died before he had the chance to open it.”
“Did Cimil kill him?” Penelope asked, appearing horrified.
“No. Chaam did.” Maggie dropped her head and appeared to be struggling not to cry. “My father had been missing for several days, and I’d been searching the jungle for his excavation site—he’d kept it a secret. Then I got lost and, unfortunately, bumped into a very angry jaguar. When I ran, I fell and hit my head. That’s when Chaam found me.” “At first I thought I’d lost my mind. He told me he was a god, and while I didn’t believe him initially, every time we touched, I saw things. Visions. It took less than one day before I realized the truth; we were meant to be. He knew it, too. But what we didn’t know was that our meeting was all part of Cimil’s plot.”
Antonio now began to feel anxious. There were simply too many parallels to his story, including Cimil’s direct involvement with his finding the tablet, which ultimately led him to Ixtab.
“The details aren’t important,” Maggie explained. “However, Chaam eventually found my father. He’d gone mad and was about to kill a young woman—a friend of mine named Itzel. Chaam was forced to kill him, and Cimil made sure I was there to witness everything.”

“Why would Cimil want all this to happen?” Kinich asked.
Good question. Because apparently whatever Cimil was up to definitely involved him and Ixtab, too. Bottom line, he didn’t like where this was going.
“Because the events triggered the portal, which sucked me in,” Maggie explained. “Then Cimil told Chaam I’d died only to make him suffer more. Everything she did was so his bond with the Universe would sever. Then she got inside his head and made him do horrible, horrible things, including trying to end the world—which she’s still planning to do. That’s what this is all about! Everything she’s ever done was always about this.”
Antonio found it very difficult to believe that finding the love of his life, Ixtab, would in some way contribute to the end of the world. No, something felt very… off.
“Do you have proof of anything you’re saying?” Kinich asked. “Your accusations are extremely serious.”
“I have another witness.” Maggie turned toward the door of the room and pointed. “Máax saw everything, too.”
The entire room gasped.
“You!” Fate screamed. “How dare you bring him here! He is not to be spoken of by anyone! He is dead to us!” She turned her back.
“Who the hell is Máax?” Antonio didn’t see anyone.
“Máax is just another victim in all this,” Maggie exclaimed. “How many deities will you allow to fall victim to Cimil? Huh? First Máax, then Chaam. Even Kinich and Zac. How about when you were imprisoned inside your own cenotes! Seventy years! While Cimil roamed free. Why can’t you see? She’s been playing with everyone. Listen to Máax. He will tell you the truth! He’s incapable of lying!”
“Who the hell is Máax?” Antonio demanded loudly.
“He is the God of Truth,” Maggie replied.
“No! He no longer bares that title,” Fate barked. “He is the One No One Speaks Of. He broke our most sacred law. He is dead to us. Banished forever.”
“Enough!” Kinich commanded. “We will listen to what Máax has to say. We need to know the truth.”
“You are no longer a deity, brother. You do not command us,” Fate said to Kinich.
“Yes, he does!” Penelope chimed in. “He is my husband. He and I are bound. Therefore, we are one and now share the role of Ruler of the House of Gods.”

So Max the invicible god verified Maggie's claim.

“You must free Chaam, and Cimil must be stopped.” Maggie turned to Antonio. “I will tell you how to free Ixtab, and in exchange, she will cure Chaam.”
Antonio wasn’t sure he liked Maggie’s plan. Not only did this Chaam sound dangerous, but opening the portal and freeing Ixtab only solved one problem. The other fact remained that his father had gone in with her.
“What about Guy, Niccolo, and the men?” Penelope asked.
“Once Chaam is free,” Maggie stated coolly, “the Maaskab will remove the hex; they will free your men. They want to fight you like Emma’s grandmother said.”
“Cimil convinced them this was their path to victory,” Máax added.
“Then it’s settled, we free Chaam,” Kinich stated.
“It must be put to a vote,” Fate stated dryly. “Despite how Chaam became evil, the fact remains that he did many terrible things and is, in fact, very dangerous. Releasing him is a risk and there is no guarantee Ixtab will be able to cure him.”
Penelope sighed. “I understand that, but if we can cure him, it could be the turning point for us; we’d have the Maaskab leader on our side. No war. No apocalypse. Done. Over.”
“You all assume,” Fate said, “that the apocalypse will be brought by the Maaskab. But that is not what Cimil predicted. She said the end was coming, not by whose hand.”
“Who else could it be?” asked Penelope.
Fate picked a piece of invisible lint from the front of her white dress. “That is for fate to decide.”

“Ixtab, if you’re listening, I want you to know I am sorry for not seeing who you really were. I was blind when we met, blinded by my fear—fear of losing my brother, of failing him. I believed that saving Margaret was my only way out. What you don’t know is that it was your face I saw. It was your eyes I dreamed of and saw every time I closed my eyes. It was you, Ixtab. Always you. So if I do not get a chance to say this in person, I want you to know that I love you—you were meant to be mine. And whatever happens, I’m grateful for finding you.”
He paused, a small piece of him hoping he might hear a reply or any sign that his message had been delivered. There was nothing but silence.
“And Father, if you’re listening. I don’t care how many lifetimes it takes, I will send you back to hell. You’ll not win, not against me.”
The wind howled, sounding as if it contained voices—shrieks and wails. “Yeah. Fuck you, too.”

“Is it over? Is he all right?” Maggie asked, kneeling down and stroking Chaam’s cheeks.
Chaam groaned and cracked open one turquoise eye. “Bobcat, is that you?” he whispered in a raspy voice.
Maggie burst into joyful tears. “Yes, your bobcat is here.”

“Ixtab had never felt so happy. Antonio was safe, albeit green, and Chaam was cured. Ixtab looked at the soldiers who were still poised in a strike position in case things went south with Chaam. “Well, don’t just stand there! Get Chaam loaded into a Jeep and to the airstrip.”
“No,” Chaam grumbled. “We cannot leave.”
“What?” Maggie said frantically. “Honey, we need to get you out of here.”
“Help me sit up.” His voice was scarcely a whisper. Maggie lifted his head and helped him up. “The Maaskab will never let you leave here with me.”
“But Chaam. We can’t stay here, it’s too dangerous,” Maggie argued.
Chaam looked at her pale, sweet face. “Maggie, my love. It’s okay. I am their king; they do not know what’s happened here and will not hurt me. And we must let the others leave safely.”
“Honey, they could be watching us now. They’ll know,” Margaret argued.
“Then you and I will put on a nice show for them to see. Get ready to run; we are going to fake a getaway,” he commanded.”

Ixtab was unconscious for a week after draining Chaam's darkness. When she woke up, Antonio made love to her after she was restrained from it for 70k years.

Máax did know how to use the tablet—he was banished for using it to time travel. Anyway, he took the tablet from Kinich, opened the portal, and went back to the moment I was sucked in. He brought me straight back to the moment he’d left.”
It was a little confusing when she thought about it, but basically Máax had hopped inside the portal, grabbed Ixtab, and pulled her forward in time. So by the time Antonio tried to open the portal and make an offering in the name of love, she was no longer on the other side of the portal. The tablet didn’t react because his request of it made no sense.
When she arrived in the future, to the moment that Máax opened the portal—well, Antonio, Kinich, and the others had already left for Mexico, but she and Margaret weren’t far behind. Pretty damned cool when she thought about it.
“And my father?” Antonio asked.
That was the best part. “Máax obviously knew I’d been sucked into the portal with him.”
“And?”
Ixtab shrugged. “Máax was waiting for him the moment he entered. Seems your father’s head fell off and only corporeal beings can pass through the portal and enter the physical world. Oops.”
Antonio’s stern expression relaxed. “Perdón. Pero… You are saying you didn’t choose to time travel?”
She shook her head no, smiling.
“And my father will never return?”
She shook her head. “No. His light cannot come back to this world. To be honest with you, I wish it could.”

“He made no attempt to mask his disapproval. “Why?”
Ixtab chugged down a resentful breath. “Because he’s a complete bastard, and I’d like nothing more than to squeeze the life right out of him.” She looked at the floor. “Máax told me that his last words were, ‘Tell Ixtab I sent them all. I sent them to remind her that there could never be another.’ ”
“What did he mean?” Antonio asked.
Her mouth turned down and her eyes filled with tears. “I’m not 100 percent sure, but I believe he was behind a good portion of the random men who ‘accidentally’ bumped into me and died. I think he wanted me to suffer, to be miserable without him. For that, he should be punished. Instead, his light roams free in some other dimension. Where’s the justice in that, Antonio? Where, for gods’ sake?”
He pulled her into his arms. “Have you learned nothing, woman? Nothing at all? The only thing that matters is that we are together now and that I will not lose you. Ever.”
“No. Never.” She wrapped her arms around Antonio’s neck. “Not as long as the Earth remains.”
“Wait.” He looked at her with mild concern. “So what happened to the tablet?”
Ixtab shrugged. “Máax said he had some unfinished business.”

“Missing were Cimil—still in deity jail—Zac, Máax, Chaam, and sadly, Guy. Ixtab’s heart grew heavy. She avoided her impulse to reach for Antonio for comfort. Some pain simply needed to be felt. Instead, she raised her hand. “Penelope. Before we start, has anyone heard from Chaam and Maggie?”
Penelope looked down at her hands. “No.”
Hell. It had been over a week already. “How about Guy?”
“Did someone call my name? We were freed this morning,” Guy replied, “somewhere north of the pyramid; we were simply spit out into the jungle and had to hike to a phone so the Uchben could retrieve us.” Guy looked him over briefly. “Are those fucking fangs, brother?”
“Nice to see you, too,” Kinich replied. “Where’s Niccolo and the other men?”
“Niccolo is with Helena and his daughter—he couldn’t wait to see them. The others went straight to Euro Disney to join the rest of the vampires—the damned strangest thing if you ask me, but strange seems to be the order of the day lately.” He directed his comment at Kinich’s mouth.

Then the dicussion to punish Maaz, Zac & Cimil.

Book Review- Vampires need not….apply? by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

This story picks up where the last one left off. Kinich has been turned into a vampire and Penelope is the acting God of the Sun. Kinich has to come to terms with being a vampire as he craves Penelope’s blood. He is a danger to her and decides to leave fleeing to New York.
The end of the world has been prophesized and the only way to stop it is to attack the Maaskab with the help of the Vampire army. The group of gods also needs to rescue Voltun, the god of death and war, and the general of the Vampire army from the Maaskab. An ancient Mayan tablet has been found that opens portals and is thought to be the only way to rescue the missing men without freeing Chaam, the evil king of the Maaskab.
Ixtab is the Mayan Goddess of Suicide and Kinich’s sister. She is sent to New York to help Kinich and the physicist who has the tablet. Unfortunately, the physicist is a dead ringer for her deceased soul mate, whom she has yet to get over. It has been two hundred years, but the guilt and sadness overwhelms her. This could cause issues.
Antonio is the physicist who has the tablet and getting a helper in the form of Ixtab. Unbeknownst to the gods, Antonio has his own reasons for opening the tablet. He is trying to save his brother. During one of his experiments with the tablet, he causes an explosion of power; throwing Antonio through the air. As a result he temporarily loses his sight. While in the hospital he meets Ixtab and they instantly don’t like each other. Antonio feels sorry for himself, hating anyone who tries to help him and Ixtab thinks he is a womanizer. Their initial meeting starts off with a bang, but Ixtab takes away his pain and makes things go more smoothly for Antonio. It is her job.
Antonio has been having dreams of this mystery woman, even before the explosion. This woman is begging him to help her. He has to open the portal. Antonio thinks that this woman is his destiny. He is drawn to the goddess dressed in a long black dress and veil, hiding her face, but is looking for the woman from his dream. He tells no one about her.
Ixtab dresses in black as a self inflicted punishment for the souls she kills. Her touch is deadly proven when she accidentally killed her souls mate, Francisco. She struggles with the fact that Antonio looks just like Francisco. Her guilt rises to the surface every time she thinks of him. Yet her feelings for Antonio grow in their own right.
During her jobs of helping both Kinich and Antonio, she finds out more than she bargained for. She is shocked to learn why Kinich is behaving the way he is toward Penelope, which is not his fault, and why Antonio needs to save his brother. Her world is turned upside down, and then the truth comes out that everything up to this point was part of an elaborate plan put into play by her goddess sister Cimil. The fun is just beginning.
I really liked the character Ixtab. You immediately feel for her and the raw deal she has been dealt. She tries hard to be good despite it. The fact that she goes to AA meetings for killing people cracks me up. She is so serious about going to them and sharing with the enthralled group.
She also tries to tell jokes to lighten the mood. Most of them fall flat but she is hilarious as she tries. Her personality makes such a great character.
There is a lot going on in this story, which definitely keeps the book fast paced. This is the second one in the series that I have read. I like this one better than the novella I read first. It made me laugh out loud with Ixtab and how she handled things, especially Antonio. I recommend this to anyone to read. I give it a 4 out of 5.

First and most importantly, note that this is book FOUR of a series. If you haven’t read books 1-3, you’re going to be confused by all these people and sub-stories going on. If you have read them, continue on!
Vampires Need Not … Apply? is part of a unique and different paranormal series. Yes, there are vampires, but there are also a host of ancient Mayan gods who have found their way to the modern world. In this way the book reminds me of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods. Each of these characters has quirks and over the top personalities, all of which made me laugh to read. This book follows Ixtab, the Goddess of Suicide. Ixtab’s powers are like two sides of a coin: on one side, she can remove suicidal thoughts from good people, thus saving their lives; but on the other side, that dark energy must be released into other people (who then immediately kill themselves). Ixtab tries to release that energy into bad people, but sometimes someone bumps into her accidentally and this causes their untimely demise. Such a thing happens to the hero’s housecat which is awful, but also somehow funny. The whole book is like that – equal parts horror and hilarity.
Our hero in this book begins as anything but. Antonio Acero is simultaneously a brilliant scientist and man whore. He is working all hours to discover the secret to an ancient Mayan tablet, taking time only to eat and bed any number of beautiful women. Ick. It’s okay, though, because Ixtab doesn’t start out as a traditional heroine. Not only is she an untouchable goddess of suicide, but as punishment for killing a long-ago love, she dresses in all black and covers her face with a black veil. Not the sort of thing one looks for in a potential mate.
As this book is part of a series, it should be noted that there are several plot lines happening. The large, overarching story; loose ends from previous novels (including a heck of a cliffhanger from the last book); Ixtab and Antonio’s story. The author does a fantastic job guiding the reader through each of these plots and changes directions gracefully between them. There is no major cliffhanger at the end of this book, and I was left wondering who the next book will be about (please let it be Maax – an invisible god has fun written all OVER it).
I really enjoyed reading this book. The sexual tension and missteps Ixtab and Antonio make are steamy and gut wrenching, and I couldn’t help but root for them both through the entire story. The plot is never predictable. I thought I had them figured out and then something would throw a monkey wrench in the whole thing and I’d be forced to rethink. It was wonderful. I recommend the entire series, even if paranormal romance isn’t your thing. At no point in this book did I feel like the hero/heroine’s otherworldliness was the point – it merely served to highlight the problems they must overcome. All in all, it was a very rewarding read.
Favorite Quote:
Well, she wouldn’t accept his offer. She was too good to take a peace-offering sex handout from an icky vampire. She was a goddess. An ancient, immortal soul of divine origin. That’s right. She was like royalty of the Universe.
Who really, really, wants to be liked for being herself.
You idiot! You sound like some mortal teenager pining for the captain of the football team.
She gave herself a mental flogging. It didn’t do the trick; she still wanted him. And wanted him to want her back.
Oh boy, I’m in trouble…
Which meant so was he. Everyone knew Ixtab was bad news.

Vampires Need Not...Apply?An Accidentally Yours Novel. Mimi Jean Pamfiloff
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
Well, I love paranormal romance, and this book seemed to have a bit of everything, Gods and Goddesses, Vampires, Prophecies and of course a host of secrets. It's a series loved by many, and the host of 5 star reviews prompted me top try even though I’ve not read earlier books. Sadly though I guess its a Marmite book, you either love it or hate it, and for me it just didn't cut it.
Mimi has a very distinctive style or writing – clearly with the legions of fans it resonates with many, and I saw lots of LOL comments in reviews. For me though the humour fell flat, I just didn't see the joke, couldn't get invested in the characters and the storyline enough to care about what happened. I put it down, picked it up again a couple of times, restarted in case I’d missed something essential, thinking if I just continued I must get to the point where I agree with all those who love the book, but despite reading to 40% I didn't get there and DNF the book :(
Its well written and full of characters and plots readers love, sadly though not me. Its a perfect example of what I’m always trying to point out, that as readers we're individual and have differing tastes, so a low review doesn't mean an awful book – it could be, as here with me, an excellent novel but just not one the reader enjoyed. I do try to choose carefully to avoid that but sometimes get it wrong – I’m human :)
So why didn't I enjoy it? Well, though its packed with old old beings, Gods, Goddesses etc. they just seemed so juvenile – clearly their off the wall oddness is what makes them special for so many readers, but it was over my head. I just got to the point where I found them irritating, not where I was laughing with/at them as so many other readers, and sadly gave up.
It's priced at £1.49 and at 403 pages its a real bargain if you like this style of humour and writing.
Stars: two, a well written book but just not my taste

** Originally written for Book Bliss book blog. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased and honest review**

Review: 3.5 stars
General: I don't normally read the quirky PNR romances and tend to stick to the darker ones. But this series kept popping up and the titles were so intriguing I found myself interested. I wish there was a bit more on the blurb but it is catchy and so I picked it up. It was a fun read with good pacing and a plot that while not as dark and intense as I normally like, still had its darkness and was a fun read.

I found the story entertaining. I love the idea of following a culture other than Greek in this story. The writing and research from the Mayan culture appeared to be spot on and well done. I enjoyed the interactions between the man characters and felt the chemistry was tame but I liked it, it suited the feel of the novel as a whole. I enjoyed Ixab's dry sense of humor and even with Antonio being a bit of a butthead I liked that about him, it worked with his sense of arrogance he had in the beginning of the story.

I think something that hurt the novel is something I have trouble with in other books as well (JR ward being one author). There was far too much emphasis placed on trying to make the book read "current". There was Spanglish and tons of pop culture references. I liked some of them as they placed me in the world but at some point there were so many it began to take away from the plot. It also went on for a bit to long for me. I felt the climax was reached and then it continued on and I found myself less involved in the story after that point.

Have I mentioned that I love these books? Because I absolutely do. They are funny and wacky and filled with oodles of paranormal goodness. The writing style is easy and witty, filled with the zany antics that only a bunch of gods and other paranormals can produce.

This book was really a continuation of Kinich and Penelope's story, which was left hanging at the end of the previous book. Does Kinich survive his transformation? Will he beat up Zak? The answers to all these questions and more are answered in this installment. We also get a bonus storyline for Ixtab and her reluctant sweetie, Antonio. It might sound like a hard sell, hooking up the goddess of suicide with... anyone, but this love story was just as fun as the rest. We also got to meet yet another paranormal species! The fun never ends with this bunch of characters.

Cimil is still making mischief with her honey, Roberto, but it seems like things are officially heading towards the apocalypse. We get to check in with Maggie (the star of one of the short stories) and there was the bonus of very little talk of the magical sex necklace. There was a bunch of creativity, hotness, and true love's sacrifice.

Don't worry, we get a really solid HEA ending in this one! Hooray! After books with never ending cliffhangers it was a relief to have a nice break from the worry.

I probably would have never known this series existed if I hadn't received the invitation from NetGalley. The mix of deities, vampires, and snarky humor immediately made me think of Sherrilyn Kenyon, but the comparison pretty much stops there. I can't pinpoint exactly why, but regardless of those basic commonalities, this series has a very different feel than Kenyon's Dark-Hunters. Coming into the series mid-way through is a little frustrating to my OCD tendencies, but Pamfiloff conveys enough backstory that I never felt truly lost. The book follows the standard romance formula, and while I did like it, I can't say it ever grabbed me by the throat. It was mildly amusing throughout, but I never had any laugh-out-loud moments; in fact, I probably had more times when I felt the author was trying a little too hard. The best segments were those when Ixtab would hijack an AA meeting and compell them to listen to her. I'm willing to read more of the series, but I don't see myself running out to hunt it down.

I received this ARC from NetGalley.

I 110% recommend this series to anyone who wants to dive in a different world and have fun.

Mimi Jean it's your fault that half my gym thinks I'm a freak because I laugh so hard when I read your book and was on the stationary bike... (doing exercise, listening to music and reading book is my thing). But big thanks for this book and all the others!

I just love this. I cannot get over Mimi Jean's quirky point of view and wonderfully crazy characters.

I pre-ordered the book as soon as I heard it was coming out. And this one? Couldn't stop reading. Like I said, this is the best yet in the series.

The new gods keep coming and making me laugh out loud. I mean, The Goddess of Suicide is just delicious. And, of course, there is Cimil! What can I say? Hysterically insane. You just have to read the whole series.

Can't wait for the next one for thoroughly enjoyable, fun read

Read the 1st chapter, and closed the book. I'm aware of the talent of the author. She created a complex world and the first 3 books attest to that. But in book 3.5, the story gives excuses for rape culture, even if that might've not been the author's intention. The series lost its momentum in that novella for me. I seriously considered not continuing this series any further. But since I liked the 1st 3 books, and i was interested in knowing more, I picked up the 4th book. Oh boy, was I wrong in doing that! Keep in mind I was coming off of reading that 3.5 novella and was very emotional at the turn of the events. Then this reluctant reader was introduced to the hero Antonio in book 4, who apparently was dreaming of a woman calling out for his help. All he could see of her were her eyes. And only he can help her and the time is running out. Oh and apparently he was certain that she was his future mate. So what does he do? While trying his best to try to find her through some experiments on the black tablet he has in his possession, he also tries to make the dreams of the future mate stop by drinking alcohol and sleeping every night with OW. And he shows such contempt for them when they demand his attention. I hated him right then and there.
All this in the 1st chapter itself. I'm sorry that the author took this route in books 3.5 and 4. These are my pet peeves, and I won't distress myself further by reading this series. Those who don't have this issue might find these remaining books entertaining. I also know that there is a novella on Cimil the Goddess of the underworld. She foresees the future. I already hate her for what she did to Victor and Chaam. Victor (vampire friend of Niccolo from book 2) dreams of his future mate for thousands of years and is in the search to find her. He asks Cimil for help, and she make him sleep with her, to foresee his future. And after she uses him for her pleasure, she tells him that his future is a blank. It's despicable! I cannot read this series any further.

I am very on the fence about whether or not I like Mimi's writing style. A lot of her zany humor just doesn't tickle my fancy and I never actually lol at any point in her books, but other reviewers seem to find many of the books in her two popular series (Accidentally Yours and Immortal Matchmakers) hilarious!

Anyways, I am almost halfway through the audiobook (4hrs 55mins in with ~7hrs remaining). Audiobook is 11hrs 55 mins long.

I was hoping to see this manwhore playboy H, Antonio, chase the heroine instead of her lusting after him like a cat in heat. I didn't want her to be just another woman throwing herself at him and him taking it as his due because he's just that hot and irresistible to woman. She's coming off exactly like all the other dozens (hundreds?) of women he's bedded and forgotten about before the end of the night.

P.S. -
Ixtab's name is a doozy to pronounce. For those that don't want to make the same mistake as the HP Hermione days, it's pronounce Esh-tahb. Hopefully, that helps because if I was reading the book, I know I would be pronouncing it all wrong (as it's spelled, like 'ix-tab').

I think I made a mistake in requesting this book from Netgalley in that this series is better enjoyed if you start from the beginning. Since I started with this book, I was missing quite a bit of backstory. The author does a pretty good job of filling in the blanks, but because I didn't know any of the characters or the situation they were in, it all seemed a bit off the wall to me. I think it would have been funnier if I had a better idea of what was going on. Nonetheless, the book was a fun romp and I appreciated that it was based on various Central American gods and myths instead of the usual Eurocentric ones. Ixtab made for a great heroine, and I especially loved her visitations to the various AA meetings. Those were hilarious. As for Antonio, he was a bit hard to take initially, but at least he had good reasons for acting the way he did. I really need to go back, though, and start from the beginning.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book from Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Spoiler! Don't read

So, they get Margaret out, the queen of masskab. She agrees to help open the portal once more to get ixtab put but only if she's taken to the other deities to agree to free chaam, her mate out from masskab...& that he's poisoned. This all happens reluctantly because they don't want to give up chaam, but when they do Emma & Helenas men are released, along w/chaam & ixtab. Ixtab drains the poison thay made chaam evil from him. Margaret & hik decide to stay on at masskab headquarters- chaam insists nothing will happen becaue the other warriors don't really know what to do or how to act w/out him.

As for ixtab, apparently maax, time traveling god was at it again- he time traveled ixtab back to the past to just before she got sucked in, helped her escape, along w/the tablet, did soem fancy decapitating of franscio so he can't transfer himself into another host & is in basic limbo when he has reentered the portal so he's basically screwed. Alls well that ends well. Hea

My favorite book out of the entire series. Well, so far. This book is about Ixtab, the goddess of suicide and Antonio. Ixtab is my favorite character because she seems to think logically and not lead with her emotions like the other female characters. Ixtab struggles with her powers but at the same time, she loves bribing happiness to people. Ixtab has been given the task to help Antonio open the portal. Antonio has his own secrets and reasons as to why he needs the portal open.

Cimil is still Cimil and I still hate her. Fate is catching up with Cimil in my hate department and my heart pours out for Maax. I'm still on the fence about Zac. They all know that Cimil is playing with their lives but they still want to "punish" Zac and Maax? Doesn't seem fair. I hope I get to read more about Maax.

On to the next book...which is about Cimil 😒

Happy reading, friends!

I almost didn't make it through this book...I've always agreed with Ixtab's point of view that vampires are "icky" so yeah, I was really close to putting it down when once again another character was turned. However, I am glad that I stuck it out. I think Ixtab was lovely and I liked that she was normal - probably the most normal character so far! She was by far the most human-like deity. She was humble...don't get that often with these gods! I also think it's pretty incredible that the author could take the deity of suicide and make it an entertaining and funny read. It was reminiscent of Terry Pratchett books for me. All around I liked it - and getting me to like a story with vampires is not easy!

Busy busy busy!

I recommend reading the short entitled "Accidentally Evil" just to give you a brief on two of the characters of this book. And because it's a hoot! This was a very detailed plot with, of course, all the characters we have come to love and laugh at. With all the lose ends getting tied up...babies coming...vampires waking up....and an old incubus, and a new one or two...I guess that would be Incubi (I think incubuses sounds like a small foreign vehicle...toot toot) I didn't think it could be pulled off well....gods I love surprises! Loved this book! I recommend!
