Kiyo is a brilliant junior high student whose inflated ego (and tendency to blow the grading curve) has made him a major target for teasing at school. So his father sends him a bizarre birthday present - a strange boy named Zatch Bell - to help him make friends and reform his bad attitude. Zatch brings with him a mysterious red Volume of spells, and Kiyo discovers that Zatch has magic powers that are unleashed by reading from the book! But there are more surprises to come, and Kiyo's destiny is about to change forever!
Kiyo and Zatch are finally getting the hang of battling, and are making more allies and friends than they thought possible - but will it be enough to fend off an oncoming barrage of mamodo bullies and cheats who will do anything to win?! Raiku gives readers more action, humour and vivid action with this enjoyable entry. What kind of trouble can one mamodo get up to on their own...?
Finally we get to see the other main character Megumi and Tia along with seeing more about what Zatch was like back in the Mamodo world. Also the build up to Zatch's twin as well as learning more about how the Mamodo World works.
Real rating: Infinity stars! It’s THAT good. Expect spoilers since this is my fandom. This book gives me feels on every range of the feel spectrum. Kiyo’s friends being weird about Suzy…Kiyo loves snails! Isn’t Robnos pretty? He’s girly and reminds me of Zofis. Kiyo (disappointed voice) don’t act like Suzy doesn’t have any redeeming qualities, when many of the readers relate to her! She’s clumsy and ditzy like me. But I’m really Li-En. Anyway, I like Robnos more when he’s split in half. I love how they defeat Robnos by electrocuting a pole. I can’t stand it when people say Zatch has a look-alike. Have you SEEN Zeon? They look and act like polar opposites. Zatch playing is cute. Seriously, he’s just getting more KAWAII every time I look at his squishy face. Dancing with the kids, etc. I would love having a mom like Nana Baba so she could make huge portions of food for me. I love how when they see Hiromi in the anime it chants “chara chara chara chara chara,” which is a reference to her tackiness. But I think she’s pretty. Sorry, Zatch, not to rain on your parade, but your real mother kind of gave you away…and you were raised by a mean lady. “It may look like he’s at play, but he’s sure to grow up day by day.” “I got a 70, too! Is your brain okay?” Mr. Toyama is a mean but funny teacher. Only 70 demons left, awww. I love Megumi’s songs. Maruss is SUCH a traitor. Tia’s spells are cool. Defense is useful, too. When did Kiyo have time to buy a Megumi shirt? He likes Megu…but he and Dufort are a better couple.
The plot continues on as usual in this volume. Zatch battles a few more mamodo, in particular one who has an interesting revelation and another who may be as nice as Zatch. We also get to see a day in the life of Zatch and what he gets up to when he's by himself with Kiyo at school all day. Good battle scenes and the plot progresses nicely but no truly wow! moments. Still a solid book in the series. Wondering if Zatch may have found a kindred mamodo ...
