JAJAJAJAJAJA no hombre...

First thoughts : Quick read for young adult readers. Story moved too fast. Not enough character development. Unrealistic elements to the story.

Synopsis; Our main character Ava is getting ready to go to her high school graduation with her best friend, her boyfriend and his twin. Ava is excited to get on with her life away from high school as she and the gang are planning to live together while attending the same college. However things turn for the worse when the gang get to graduation. Suddenly out of the blue Jason dumps Ava ending their long term relationship and future plans.

After graduation the gang head out to party where graduating high school students mingle with college age students at fraternity house parties. This is where Ava meets Adrian and her life changes forever. **rolls eyes**

After a whirlwind couple of weeks young romance Ava changes all of her plans to follow Adrian to the other side of the country to where he has a job lined up.

Unrealistic Aspects: The quick head-over-heels can't-live-without-you romance. Ava's reaction to the break-up with Jason. Ava's' parents reaction to the age-difference and the possibility of Ava moving away with Adrian so soon in the relationship.

I could not for the life of me connect to any of the characters. I was wondering what was missing and I realized it was passion. I didn't feel tingly inside when the two MC kissed and I didn't get all giddy when they first met. The romance was juvenile and boring. I seriously blame being pregnant for not liking any books. I used to love these kind of stories. So it's either pregnancy or I am just getting old. Love at first sight gets old fast and the insta love is only good if done right. Or maybe I just like my boys a little more bad and not so love sick puppy. I also enjoy characters falling in love through a period of time. This book they seemed to have been smitten with each other from the start, and then two weeks later moved into together. That to me is ridiculous. I don't give a crap whether or not the guy was leaving at the end of the summer! You just met him and don't know him very well. And the parents being okay with it? Sure she is 18 but I'll be damned if my 18 year old daughter moves in with a man she has known for like two seconds. The said guy you are moving in with could be an axe murderer or a pervert. You just don't know these days!
I skimmed the last 40% of the book. Even though I heavily disliked the story I still want to read the second book. I want to know what drama Sam causes. She was the saving grace for the book because she is the character you love to hate.

The Low Down: The four-year-long relationship between Ava and Jason is over. Breaking up with her right before their high school graduation ceremonies, Ava is shocked to discover that Cally, the girl that caused the on again/off again portion of their relationship, is back in town. This was supposed to be the best summer of their lives, and it has turned into something else completely.

Then Ava meets Adrian at a frat party. There is an undeniable connection between them, but he’s leaving for a dream job in the fall. Should she take a chance on love? Could she change her plans to include Adrian? Or is clinging to the familiar, including a repentant Jason, the way to go?

Best Thang ‘Bout It: I liked the idea of this book more than the execution. It has an interesting story line, but it did not live up to its potential or synopsis.

I’m Cranky Because: There is a distinct immaturity in the writing. Everything is laid out neatly in a surfacy way; the action is transparent and the ending is clear from page 1. One of my big peeves is present, too: this story is told, not shown. It is easy to say that there is an undeniable attraction between two people, but I don’t believe it if I don’t see it.

There are many inconsistencies as well. For example, Ava doesn’t seem to be that broken up about the break up. We are told she is, but her actions/behavior don’t follow. Other things fall in line with this, from the fact that Ava is an amazing cook (“no one has complained”), yet in four years of dating she has never cooked for Jason. And this is what she wants to major in at college!

She says her mother is overprotective, yet she stays over at Adrian’s house without letting her mom know where she is (and her mother doesn’t ask). There is a lot of list-making and rehashing, too. And, apparently, it is super easy for a high schooler to be served a bottle of wine at an expensive restaurant. This ain’t no Boones Farm girl, either.

As for her family, it seems they are only there to make her look normal. We are told that they are a close family, but there’s nothing there to show this. Adrian is (supposedly) not close to his family, yet, again, I can't tell.

Then there’s the jealousy monster. Adrian has given Ava no reason to suspect him of being potentially unfaithful, yet she is crazy jealous of a girl that he isn’t even attracted to. Was that the climax?

The Bottom Line: Overall, a lackluster book that calls out for more depth, it also needed to be punched up through another round or so of editing.

A Summer to Remember by Jessica Gunhammer was published today by the Author. A free copy of this book was given to Ink and Page in return for an honest review. Big thanks to the Author.

Wow. Definitely one of the weirdest books I've read in awhile. So, sooooo many things that I just didnt get. First, Ava's 18 and this guys 22? What on earth do a high school graduate and a college graduate have in common? They almost never spoke, and the book was mostly filled with Ava and Lilly's conversations. Also, she moves in with him after 2 dates? And her parents are all like "Whatevs" about it? I know for a fact, 18 or not, my parents would not let me move in with a dude I only knew for two weeks. Their entire relationship moved at warp speed, and within a month they were "in love" and then bam! He leaves. It felt like this book really didnt have a point, and although I hear there's a sequel in the works, I am not interested in it. Even then "antagonist" Sam seemed to be a non-threatening issue. Not for me.

Since this book is about summer, reading this can be compared to a time when you first set your feet on a beach you've never been before. You don't know the people, the twists and turn of the place and how the waves on that part of the ocean would come to you.

Whenever I embark on a new reading that is always the exact feeling that I get but each experience is greatly different from the other. A Summer To Remember is a read that is filled with never ending unexpected turn of events. I know, I already used that very same line to my other reviews and like those reads stating that line has its pros and cons and since I’m really in the mood to write a review, I’ll start with the story’s pros:

Predictability may come handy at times when you’re reading but unpredictability is a thing that is greatly appreciated by me. This story is filled with those out-of-this-world unexpected turn of events – it may come as a positive or a negative thing but looking on the physicality of it, I do like the romantic summer love at first sight thing that happened (brings out the hopeful romantic in me - I clearly know) . Another thing is that, I like the character‘s straightforwardness to each other, other people and to the situations that lies ahead of them.

As for the cons of the story, I honestly didn’t connect with any of the characters; I think Ava and Adrian lacks a bit of ’charisma’ and passion so I really didn’t get a chance to really connect with them. BUT I think the greatest thing that bugs my mind is the ridiculous and impulsive plan that Ava did here – Why God would she move in with a man whom she just met for two weeks? And her parents, her parents agreed to this without any qualms just because she’s already 18? NO. I think that situation is a definite no no. :|

Now, after reading and analyzing stuffs about Summer To Remember – I find myself thinking – What really did happen here? Stripping all the lovey-dovey stuffs and romantic scenes. It feels empty. Sigh

I know my cons seems to weigh much more than my pros and the story is far from perfect, things might get so cliché and there are things that totally bugs my mind but still the story's fast pacing and unexpected plot carries it all. I'll sure be waiting for the next book to arrive. :)

Adrian doesn't waste any time in going after what he wants and I find that extremely attractive, "okay, this may sound strange since we just met, but I want you to know something. I like you. I don't know what happened the night we met, but something told me you were different than any girl I've ever met. There was just something I can't really explain, but I have to tell you because we leave tomorrow and I don't know if I'll get another chance. I knew I would regret it if I didn't. Sorry if that's weird and I just freaked you out." Ava is a feisty one, I like it, "excuse me! If I remember correctly, you're the one who broke up with me, so I believe that means I don't owe you any sort of explanation about anything, let alone who I do and do not date, thank you very much!" Adrian knows how to sweet talk a girl, "no, I don't think you understand." He sat down on the bed, grabbed my hands, and pulled me between his legs. "I want you to be here every day, all day. I want to wake up to you in the morning and go to sleep with you at night." That is sweet! Didn't realize this was a series sort of I hope there is another book, I wish the book would have ending differently.

It's a nice and fresh reading, a different story but it goes too fast, doesn't have an end and there is no book 2 yet, so it is a disappointment.

When the love of her life dumps her, and she moves in with her rebound guy two weeks later, something is wrong.

I understand that people jump into relationships, and I'm cool with that. Not judging here, but I don't buy it when she claims to already have a love of her life. This girl, Ava, claims that Jason is the love of her life, her safety net, her everything. He then dumps her graduation day. Then, the same evening, she runs into this Adrian guy. After knowing him for almost half an evening, this is her take on Adrian:
This guy was the hottest, funniest, sweetest guy I’d ever met.

Excuse me, but Jason? The love of your life? You forgot about him?

All right. I call bullshit. And no, not just on this particular thing, but all of it.

Plot, you say? Was there one? No. This book, the whole of 92 pages of it, was filled with Ava (as I was told) falling in love with Adrian over the course of the summer. (Read: Two weeks.) Except they don't. They more or less fall for the other in an instant. This after Adrian drops sexist and amazing lines such as this:
"You’re not too bad for a girl," my handsome opponent said as he came over to shake my hand.

I didn't know men have extra qualifies to make them the better gender at beer pong.

Let's slow down for a moment. Ava here is one of the flattest characters ever. Wait, maybe Adrian is. Okay, all of them are. Character development and characterization are painfully lacking here. I can't tell how either Ava or Adrian looks. (I think he might have green eyes?) Other than that... hobbies? I'm not sure on Ava's part. She barely does anything except whine over her indecision between choosing Adrian or Jason. Adrian has a thing for football. And apparently it's perfectly normal for newly college graduates to become the new football scout for a big team.

I can't even say what's wrong about this book, since it really is more of a first draft. No flesh on the characters, no real plot since there is no issue to solve, nothing to overcome, at least nothing big enough to be excused for a plot. No connection to any characters. Repetitive writing. Writing in bad need of editing since I'm pretty sure no one changed to rules and made it perfectly fine to switch tenses within a sentence. And God, all through the book I was thinking, please, tell me more. Absolutely no showing and explaining every single thing.
“Yeah, I can tell. I’m kind of surprised you’re so…”
“Happy after Jason broke up with me?” I finished her sentence.

The ... made your interruption perfectly clear.

Or this:
“I don’t, but geez you sure haven’t wasted any time.” I heard the irritation in his voice.

Please, I'm dying to be told more.

And then we have the amazing Ava and some of her best moments:
Here I was sitting on a beach, or the closest thing we have to a beach around here, under a beautiful full moon, making out with a gorgeous guy I just met. This was something I didn’t do often and I felt semi-guilty about, but I couldn’t help the fact that it just felt right, like I was supposed to be here with him.

Considering how she's had a boyfriend for the past four years I hope this isn't something she's done on a regular basis.

And when she runs in with one of Adrian's exes, Sam, and questions him about if he still likes her, she throws the biggest fit ever. When Adrian points out that she too has an ex in town and that she might go back to him, her comment is this:
“Yeah, but he’s an idiot! Sam is gorgeous!”

So if Sam's an idiot, Adrian can still go back to her? Because she's gorgeous? Yeah, I'm not touching that sexist comment even with a stick.

This book is one train wreck after another. Plot, characters, writing, editing. Everything is inconsistent, messing up facts and pieces of the story. The lack in Ava's character could've perhaps been saved by a decent plot. I'm sorry, but I don't take following two completely boring, plain, untroubled people for a few weeks as a strong plot. It could've been if they had faced some issues to overcome. But they don't. Instead it's 92 pages of meaningless scenes.

-NO ME GUSTÓ.

I was super excited to get the opportunity review A Summer to Remember! I couldn’t wait to dive in and read it.

As I was reading it I kept thinking, yep, it was what I was looking forward to! Ava was cute and sweet. She gets her heart broken graduation day and meets Adrian (cool name by the way!!!!) and they fall in love (yeah, not so much on the insta love, but I can deal with it. I was a little skeptical that her parents let her have as much freedom with Adrian (who had graduated college) as they did. But, okay, she is 18.

But then the book ended. Throw not he brakes, it’s over, the rest of the story will be in book #2.

Yeah, I get sequels, and I get that we want to read book #2… but I need just a wee bit more of a conclusion than we got here.

I won’t spoil it and tell you what happened. I will tell you that I liked the book and can’t wait to read book #2, and will be stalking Jessica until she sends me to ARC so I know what happens next… but still… here is your warning… read this book. It is a great contemporary story (short, cute and fun.) You will love Adrian, he is a great boyfriend, the kind that you want to take home to your parents! But be warned that the ending is a little, well, abrupt!

Oh, and I adore the cover… I love the girl on the cover, except she looks a little awkward laying on him like that!

All I can say about this book is that is read like a pre-teen's daydream about what her future relationship will be like. 'We'll meet and after one date I will never want to let him go because he'll be so perfect! A week later we will move in together, and my parents will be totally fine with it because it true love and all, and we'll live happily ever after!'

It was just a mess. I happen t be a reader who is fine with what many call 'inst-love' in romances, but this was just over the line. We get NO reason for these two people being in love. I don't need much but you have to give me SOMETHING. They have no chemistry at all and honestly seem like they would better off with other people. It's a classic case of 'these are the two main characters in the book so they have to be soul mates'. Making two people main characters does not equal giving them compatibility. Sorry, it's not that easy.

Just glad I didn't pay much for this one.

When I started reading this book there was no mention that it was part of a series so it was a bit of a shock when it just ended, I assume from the title having seasons in there that there'll be four books one for each season but it would have been nice to know that before I started.
I liked the blurb for this book even though the cover is a little weird, she looks so uncomfortable laying like that with her arms by her side, anyway I digress I actually didn't mind this book and if it wouldn't have been for the abrupt ending I wasn't expecting I would have liked it more, Ava is annoying and childish at times and what's with the restaurant serving them wine with their meal Ava is only eighteen and in the states the drinking age is twenty-one, I know later on it mentions a fake ID but there's no mention of this at the time.
Will I read the next book, depends on how long it is till it's out and how much it costs

Ava is excited for the next chapter of her life but the boyfriend she been with all through high school on and off decided the morning of graduation to breakup with her. Ava is heartbroken but decided to make the most of celebrations she meets Adrian who she felt an instant connection with.

Adrian just graduates from college he played football and been offer a once in a life time job opportunity he wasn't expecting to meet Ava or fall for her.

Ava and Adrian deal with their summer romance and the skeleton in their closets. Ava and Lily decide to get an apartment together and see what their next chapter brings.

The only thing I didn't like was the ending it was a cliff hanger there was such a buildup but I was disappointed with ending it didn't give me any clue nothing towards what will happen!

I have mixed emotions about this book. It was decent. The writing was good and there weren't mistakes to distract.

That being said, there were a few spots that lulled but I liked the story. The romance was great. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters too. Jessica did a great job developing wonderful characters.

I wanted to know what was going to happen with Ava and Adrian so bad!!!! And then. The book just ended. The story didn't resolve any loose ends at all. I was so disappointed. Of course, there will be a sequel. Just know that going in so you aren't caught off guard.

I look forward to seeing what book two has in store for Ava and Adrian. Overall a good book and I give it four glittery stars!

Some parts are very unrealistic like whose parents would be so cool and open to someone your daughter just met. Mine would not! I can't even think I could ask my parents to move in with someone a month after my high school graduation!

Also, how can someone jump into a serious relationship that quick after a very tiring, on-off 4-year relationship? Hmmm. Don't you want to relive the easy-going single life first?

Am I too old for this kind of romance??? I used to love reading young love but the way Ava and Adrian's story was told is very juvenile and fast for me. Everything was rushed! Maybe if I read this when I was still in high school my thoughts might be different. This story is not for me.

I love you)...very good as far as plot and drama, story could have been a little longer to drag out the "milestones" in the new relationship. I enjoyed both Ava and Adrian even Ava and Adrian's friends were alright....I felt the passion between Ava and Adrian even if they didn't really have a converstaion and get to know each other....I gave it 3 beautiful stars

This is a great book and I really hope there is going to be another one. On the day of her high school graduation, Ava is broken up with by her boyfriend of 4 years. She goes to a Frat Party that night and meets Adrian, he just graduated from college. Adrian goes after what he wants with Ava. Adrian is a great boyfriend and he really loves Ava and tries to be as sweet as he can be and supportive to her. I'm really looking forward to the next book because it has to continue with the way it ended.

All I can say is that this girl moves on fast! Ava breaks up with her guy before summer can even begin. By the end of the same night she's halfway to being head over heels for a guy she meets at a frat party. A frat party! She shacks up with him soon after that. And when I say soon I'm talking like a week. I think the book is supposed to take place over a two month period but it really feels like two weeks. Everything about this book is shallow. the characters aren't even likable. I'm not sure what the gist of the book was. I know I'm definitely not reading the second book.

Seriously? This was the worst written book I've ever read. So amateur-like and a lot of cliches.
"i felt like a little kid on Christmas." Who writes that in books nowadays? Is that how it ends or is there a next book 'cause that was not good closure. Ava just met the guy and suddenly she's moving in with him? She doesn't come home for a few days and when she does she want's to move in with a guy she went on only two dates with and all her parents say is "we thought you were already living with him"? Seriously no "safe sex talks, no i hope you know what your'e doing, just "Ok".

Ummm ok what the hell did I read?

Ok first off there were a few mistakes in the book that annoyed me.

2. Filled with Ava and Lily talking about their relationships but not off having one.

3.this bok moved super fast that summer was over before I turned the page. Adrian had no development who is he? What kinda of man is he?

Did it bother anyone else that his parents were just random. The author needs to work on this book make it a little longer, Ava needs to develop as well

Meh. it was okay
it had a lot of good points - it wasn't overly sexual or laced with crazy erotic scenes (for which I'm very grateful)

but....not a lot happened. Two people met, two people got to know each other. There was a little drama but it went really smoothly - as did everything else.

and then it was over....just...meh....just a few months in a new relationship. Nothing to really make this one stand out to me.

Summer Love

I had just finished Reasonable Doubt 2 yesterday and was looking for something to read. I had purchased this book when it was free I loved the cover of the book. So I decided to go ahead and read it. I loved it. I also finished it in one day. I am a little disappointed that it end ed in a cliff hanger. I went to buy the second book but it isn't available yet. Loved Ava and Adrian's romance. He is a keeper. I love the summer romance books.

This was an interesting short story about loss and love. I didn't really like it that much. The story moved too fast. So many different things took place in like 100 pages. The story also felt like it was incomplete, like there wasn't really an ending. I feel like there could have been more to it. It just wasn't as good as i expected.

I loved this story!

Despite Ava having had a very recent bad breakup, Ava and Adrian have an instant connection to each other that they both want to pursue.

They are so lovely together, but they still have their ups and downs and jealous moments like any other couple.

I am really looking forward to reading the next book
