“I like that you like it,” Elliott murmured. “I fucking love it, as a matter of fact. It makes me lose my fucking mind.”
“You’re special,” he said into her mouth as his fingers tightened on her skin. “And you make me crazy. And I hate it.”
“Yes, Simone,” he said into the softness of her hair. “It matters.”
Waking beside Simone had felt so natural that he couldn’t imagine not doing it every day.
She had driven him crazy the night before.
He wanted her to drive him crazy again.
“I get it. You don’t want a girlfriend and you’re a freak about people messing with your stuff. You’re not always a dick, but you will be sometimes and you won’t apologize for it because you’re just a cranky grouch, and that’s who you are.”
This series is becoming a bit of a tease. Just when things start working out for me and I'm getting into the story, the end of the "serial" part comes. This is also difficult to review and rate as these "parts" are not extremely long. And I do think this book would feel different had it been released as a full novel.
That being said, this part brings us a bit of that push and pull that Simone and Elliott keep going through. Just when I think Elliott has decided to admit what he wants is exactly what Simone is offering, he gets cold feet about it and backs up.
These are both conflicted characters that have a lot of their own issues. Simone, even though she's so strong on the outside, is delicate and easy to hurt on the inside. Seeking love and acceptance, to feel safe. And when the ground she's standing on starts to shake, she goes back to what she knows can feel safe. I wasn't necessarily a fan of that in this part.
I think there are good things to come from these two from here and as their pasts coming to the light.
