Susanna Lorican wanted nothing more than to finally marry the love of her life, one Viscount Camden Beckinworth. Only, nature and fate don't seem to be on her side. With the winter snow piling up, everything seems to be put on pause, from the arrival of her guests and dress to the courtyard that she'd initially wanted to utilize. The obstacles just keep coming, but come hell or high water, their love will persevere and the wedding will take place, if Susanna has anything to say about it!

---

Overall, this was a well paced short story about love and dedication. The writing was fluid and well described, and in the sweltering heat of Illinois in July, it made me miss the chilly winter season. (I know that others can't stand the snow, but winter is my favorite time of year.) I normally don't fancy historical fiction, but thought the characters seemed likable enough and I have to admire Susanna's tenacity. I probably would have just delayed the wedding after the first or second snag in the plans.

Thank you to author Amber Daulton for my copy of this novella. This review can also be found on my blog, Bitches n Prose.

FOREVER AND ALWAYS

Per the author's notes at the end of the story, this story was initially written in 2012 but has been altered, added a subplot, an additional scene, and new editing. The story is a clean, historical regency tale on Christmas Eve, 1834, in Southern Derbyshire, England. A planned wedding and disaster strikes—a freak snowstorm, an accident, and a possible delay. The bride and groom have known each other most of their lives—since he was friends with her brothers. But, she has known since a young girl that she would one day marry him.

"She was six when she first vowed to marry you. I believe her words were: 'Even if I have to hogtie him and drag him to Greta Green, he will be mine.'"

Lady Susanna Lorican has planned her wedding to Viscount Camden Beckinworth on Christmas Eve, the day he first kissed her the year before. What a shock to wake up to a heavy snowstorm. The day goes from moving the wedding indoors from the previous plans to items, not present and an accident that may postpone the day.

I love the love you can feel between Susanna and Camden; this isn't your marriage of convenience, for an alliance, or to have a better station or exorbitant dowry—this is two people who are in love. When Susanna is upset as each new catastrophe plays out, Camden does his best to comfort her. She isn't a bridezilla, she is just upset, and he is her rock. But Susanna has a secret, one she hasn't shared with even Camden—and timing is critical.

"I make my own luck. We control our destiny, Susanna; no one else. Besides, you have nothing to worry about. The one activity we shared truly worth gossiping about will never reach the light of day."

"I trust you with all my heart, and the issue will be resolved once I'm your wife."

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly. While so many things go wrong—nothing is worse than being physically attacked hours before her marriage. While she must fight, is hit, and attempted rape, she will escape that horror. Camden along with her father and two brothers will rescue her before any real damage is done. But what will this do to the family?
So the groom sees the bride on their wedding day—so many things go wrong—but, in the end, they do get married on the day she wanted, just not as she had hoped. The story is concise, but you get the feel of Camden and Susanna's love for each other—and that is how it should be.

"I never thought this moment would come, especially with all the mishaps."

A winter wedding sounds divine...unless a snowstorm hits. In Daulton's Forever Winter, Camden & Susanna face just that dilemma. From a delayed minister to no dress, Susanna worries her wedding will not only be ruined but delayed indefinitely. Will Winter's splendor cancel her day of glory and reveal her burning secret?

This sweet regency novella features artfully painted scenes, delightful characters, and intriguing plotlines. Through carefully woven subplots and complex characters, Daulton keeps the pages turning. I read this over the course of a.few days but honestly could have read it in one sitting; I was trying to spread out the fun! Forever Winter is a perfect read to add to your Fall reading list...or to any season!

This is a well written short story with strong characters in Susanna and Camden. Wanting a Christmas wedding , they didn't count on all the mishaps and snowstorm they had to navigate. It's a sweet, heartwarming historical romance. The author moves the story quickly and smoothly and delivers an entertaining novella.

Set in 1834 England, Forever Winter, a Regency romance novella by Amber Daulton, is definitely a winner. From the first page, I was captivated by the main character who is determined to marry the man she loves in spite of a freak snowstorm and many other setbacks. Camden, the future groom, is a true romantic hero. If you enjoy Regency romance, this is the story for you.

Forever Winter is a short story about what happens when absolutely everything goes wrong on one’s wedding day. Camden and Susanna are a wonderful couple, strongly in love and eager to begin their married life together. But having the Christmas wedding of their dreams comes with many obstacles, including bad weather, dress mishaps, and more.

I love the main characters and their shared history. They’ve known each other since childhood, and their feelings have only grown. They see the best in each other, and it’s clear that this is a true love match, unlike many of the other matches in her family. Susanna is kind-hearted and intelligent, and she is determined to marry for love, like her parents. Though her relationship with her sisters is strained, it says more about their characters than hers. Susanna is truthful and sincere, and her eagerness to be wed fuels the story.

Camden is a wonderful man and is wholeheartedly part of Susanna’s family. They have embraced him as a son, and this ringing endorsement says so much about his character. I like that Camden treats Susanna as his equal and sees her worth, not just as his wife and mother to his children, but also as a smart and strong woman who can help his business prosper and grow. Theirs is a sweet and deep love that is sure to last a lifetime.

A quick and warm historical romance with an unforgettable wedding, this is a great story for readers looking for a short and charming read. I’m so thankful to the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Forever Winter by Amber Daulton is a romantic regency novella.

Susanna Lorican and Camden Beckinworth, the Viscount of Beckinworth estate, after a year of courtship they were going to get married. Susanna had chosen their anniversary as their wedding date as a symbolic gesture. Everything was planned perfectly but the weather had ruined her plans. She was devastated by this but canceling the wedding was out of the question if she wanted to keep her secret. Camden was by her side comforting her after each bad omen and they had their happily ever after.

It is such a cute romance. It is super quick and focused on the winter wedding. It might be short but it packs a lot of emotional turbulence. The romantic aspect is adorable and kind of spicy for that era. The drama is plenty but thankfully doesn't last long. I loved the mix between the modern and the regency, it makes it stand out. The characters were great, especially Susanna with her fiery spirit. My favorite part was the first scene between Camden and Lord Lorican.

I enjoyed this short story very much and I will rate it with 4 stars.

A sweet historical romance, well-crafted with believable characters. A magical wedding, despite the obstacles, at a magical time of the year - Christmas Eve.
Daulton's easy writing style carried through beautifully.

One disaster strikes after another on the day of their wedding. Susanna is emotional but strong. Camden is loving and devoted. I loved the story line and the characters. I kept turning one page after another cheering for Susanna and Camden. I had to see them through each obstacle, hoping they would be blessed with their magical wedding.

A story to treasure. A definite read that leaves you wanting to read more of Amber Daulton's work.

Susanna Lorican is set to wed Viscount Camden Beckinworth but it appears fate is not on their side. The wedding is set at Christmastime, and everything has been perfectly planned. Then the snowstorm hits and their minister is badly hurt. The roads are too dangerous to traverse, making the search for a new minister unattainable, the delivery of the wedding dress unthinkable, and the arrival the guests impossible. The wedding may have to be delayed until spring, distressing Susanna for more than one reason.

The marriage between Susanna and Camden is based on love rather than convenience or familial alliances. I found that to be a refreshing take on a historical romance. So many I read are based on what the groom or the bride’s parents can get out of marrying their daughter off. I know that’s the way that era was in the aristocracy, but Forever Winter was a breath of fresh air. Susanna and Camden are wonderful characters, the setting magical, and the story beautifully written.

The book does have some dark moments, however, and the author writes them with realism, tenderness, and care. Another problem with the regency era was the abuse and assault of women and the lies spread by their assaulters. The author does a remarkable job writing about this particular subject.

My Rating: ❤❤❤❤
VERY GOOD: The characteristics of a 4 star book include: a great story; I loved the characters; and there was an interesting plot and unique story elements; there may have been a few odd things kept the story from being amazing. I would read it again and I would recommend it to a friend.
Initial Reaction: I don't typically enjoy historical romances but color me surprised when I enjoyed this short and sweet tale.

Rating's Breakdown:
Quality of writing: Good

Pace: Even and easy

Characters: For a short story, I thought they were well thought as were their motivations

Plot development: Good and concise

Story line: Clever and well thought out

Enjoyability: Very enjoyable
My Thoughts:
This book was provided by the author for an honest review.

Forever Winter opens with Susanna Lorican, daughter of Baron Alban and Lady Marie Lorican, preparing for her wedding supposedly occurring later in the day. But, fate, with her fickle ways, puts several obstacles in Susanna and her fiancé's, Lord Camden Beckinworth, way. A snow storm. An absent wedding gown. A hurt reverend. As each obstacle presents itself, Susanna drowns deeper and deeper in despair. It is only Camden's presence and reassurance that buoys her spirits and allows her to press on despite the obstacles. However, Susanna's greatest obstacle comes in the form of a nefarious family member who threatens to destroy her on her most precious day. But thankfully, love does indeed conquer all.

As I mentioned in my initial reaction, I don't typically read historical romances unless a hunky kilt-wearing Highlander is involved. :) However, I really enjoyed this short story. Although it was set during England's Victorian era it was not heavily laden with the speech of the period. Readers like me will enjoy Forever Winter because of Daulton's easy writing style.

I also appreciated the characters and their personalities. Although Susanna initially came across as spoiled and entitled, her caring heart shines through in her concern for the servant's children and the reverend's well-being. And who wouldn't love a reformed rake like Camden *le sigh*.

I was pleased with the family dynamic that was woven throughout the story. Susanna with her parents and her siblings and Camden with her parents. Sadly, Susanna never did repair her broken relationship with her oldest sister, Deandra, but it was nice to see her forge a closer bond with her sister Beatrix.

And the epilogue...just too sweet for words.

My first true love was historical romance. It has been awhile since I had the pleasure of reading one and was delighted that I had this opportunity.
Nothing in the world is more beautiful than winter. Throw in a winter wedding and you have the makings of a beautiful love story. Except this story has anything and everything that can go wrong! Susanna and Camden are a wonderfully described couple and I have to give Amber amazing credit for how well developed they are in this short story.
I am one of those people that would have seriously considered postponing the wedding after all the mishaps these two came under but their love would not be denied.
Wonderful story and I am looking forward to more from this lovely author.

Forever Winter started off with a (relatively) minor mishap and continued on into what I am sure would have been any bride's nightmare. For a short story, it had some great characters and a plot that fit the length without it feeling like the story needed a lot more. It was relatively light but real enough to make it feel like you could know and relate to the characters. Susanna & Camden were an adorable couple, and fit each other really well. While I would've liked getting to know these two (and their family) even better I was pleased with this short glimpse into the beginning of their shared lives together, as well as the epilogue which wrapped things up nicely. A sweet and entertaining read. 3.5 Stars

This was a great little Historial romance. It's nice to see a family willing to go along with marriage for love, and not title. There was drama and sweetness. The only thing I didn't like, is that it was so short. I think with some development, the author could build on the turmoil and drama that's already there, and turn it into a full length novel. Not that it takes away from the read. If you want a quick happy story to read on your lunch break, pick this up.

Susanna is less than she should be in this tale of regency romance. Having given her favours to her fiancé before marriage, she is now in a ‘delicate’ condition. She must marry Camden or face disgrace. Snowstorms, ice and an injured clergyman stand in the way of the nuptials. Modern attitudes toward morality are present in this historical tale, along with some modern terms, which are out of place.

Of the many things that could go wrong am just so happy the wedding pulled through. I thought the theme, of the wedding was amazing. The experience of it snowing would make for an exceptional experience. Camden was just the best man- understanding, supportive and great. To be honest Susanna Beckinworth was indeed lucky. I enjoyed this short read, and would recommend anyone to take it up.

This was a ‘happy-ever-after-romance’ kind of story that I very rarely read out of choice. However, I read and reviewed it as part of a group and found it quite interesting in parts but not particularly intriguing. Unfortunately, most of the time, it felt predictable. With lords generally ‘lording it’ about everywhere, and even, an evil blackguard, trying to deflower an innocent maiden. But there were few unexpected moments while, there were also a few inappropriate expressions. Some were too contemporary such as words like “prepping” – or else I saw US expressions not from the Derbyshire of England that I know, living as I do in an adjacent county. “Hogtie” was more likely expressed as “fetter” or “shackle” for example.

I think the book’s blurb, together with many of the reviews online, had so many spoilers about it that it was almost unnecessary to actually bother to read it: most unfortunate. All of the story is unfolded on Christmas Eve and, inevitably, the snow storm that day becomes bad enough to affect the wedding plans of the couple, Susanna and Camden. Other apparent setbacks occur to ruin things and the reader is led along, anxious to find out more. The characters were quite well drawn even if some of the dialogue was questionable in my opinion. In addition (unless they were overlooked edits?) I saw a couple of words unknown in the dictionaries I used – as in “no apologizes” and in “bussed her cheeks” plus others.
As I stated originally, a tale not really for me.

A calamity of unpredictable occurrences interfere with Susanna and Camden's wedding day. Poor Susanna she has a secret and it is imperative she marry immediately. But a snow and ice storm causes a no show of her wedding dress. Camden keeps her calm but she has not shared her secret with him and decided to wait until the vows were spoken. Her two brothers and two sisters with their families, close friends and servants were invited. Now everyone is housebound because of the weather. When Camden is called to speak with Susanna's father he tells her to stay where she is and lock the door. Susanna did not understand why and felt safe in her father's house. Apparently Camden suspected otherwise. She left the room and something horrible happens. Thankfully Camden heard her scream and came to her rescue. The reverend had arrived unconscious but recovers and holds the wedding. Happy ending after all they went through. A happily ever after, after all.

It's about the marriage, not the wedding.

Viscount Camden Beckinworth and Susanna Lorican are in love, and are due to marry on Christmas Eve, one year from their first kiss. Sadly, all the possible circumstances that could go wrong in one day are determined to ruin and possibly delay their special day.

Although this is a short novella that takes place in one day, is a powerful story of love, trust, betrayal and acceptance of circumstances beyond human control. Camden and Susanna are both sweet and likable, but they soon learn that it's their marriage that matters, not the details of their wedding.

Content 411: This novella contains a mild amount of secular and religious swearing, some non-described kissing and a HEA. There is no sex and no vulgarities.

Susanna Lorican is having a bad day on what should be her happiest day. She was to marry her beloved Camden Beckinworth in the courtyard of her father’s country house at Christmas—the anniversary of their first kiss. She in a hurry to marry not only because she and Camden are madly in love but because they have proven that once together is enough to put her in the family way. Now, a terrible storm has forced the ceremony indoors, her dress hasn’t made it from London, and even the minister is bedridden due to an accident on the icy roads. The honeymoon will likely be delayed. And that isn’t the last (or the least) of Susanna’s troubles.

I enjoyed this very short read a lot. Ms. Daulton normally writes hot and steamy romantic suspense, but this sweet treat for Christmas was just that—short and sweet. The love that Susanna and Camden share is heartwarming, especially Camden’s declaration that it can be “forever winter,” as long as he and Susanna are together. Awww! Recommended!

This is an excellent short romance story featuring a young girl called Susanna Lorican who is about to marry the man she loves, Camden Beckwourth. However, there are several obstacles that they face before they can marry, there is a terrible snowstorm that puts the wedding in jeopardy and causes the reverend to be incapacitated. But there is also a dangerous secret about Beckwourth so Susanna must marry him before it is revealed and she becomes the gossip of the town.

There was a lot of action and suspense within this short story with so many things going wrong before the wedding, ultimately leading to the assault on the heroine by Lord Gaynor (Susanna's terrible brother in law). Camden was also a well written character, a cad who ultimately becomes a hero. Overall it was well paced and an enjoyable read.

Set on what is supposed to be Susanna and Camden's wedding day, all the action takes place in one day.

Numerous obstacles throw themselves into the path of the happy couple. Winter weather causes the majority of problems, but slimy wedding guests also intrude.

A short story, with a moderate amount of angst and a little violence.

While this calls itself a regency novella, it is set in 1834. However, the Regency ended in 1820.

The description of house decorated for Christmas and the wedding are delightful, but several Americanisms creep in.

I did like the cover.

Overall, not a bad read if it was fanfiction, but I wouldn’t pay for it.

What if everything went wrong on your special day? What would you do?

Literally everything goes wrong on Susanna’s wedding day from the weather to the dress and more, and although it was entertaining to see how she would get through the next obstacle, what I loved most was Camden’s loving, unshakable support. He is everything you would want in a partner, and seeing how they lean on each other during each new trial was very sweet.

Although short, the plot was satisfying for a novella and I really liked the characters. This is a great read for any weather, sunshine or snow, and worth a read for those who love sweet regency stories.

Forever Winter is the perfect novella for any season. This sweet Regency romance immediately hooks the reader with the first of many disruptions to what was supposed to be the perfect winter wedding. With one catastrophe after another, the momentum builds suspense as the reader is always waiting to see what will happen next and wondering when secrets will be revealed. Will the series of increasingly unfortunate events derail the wedding? Be prepared to be immersed in a story world where every character comes to life.

When it rains, it pours but there is a rainbow at the end.
What a lovely book it was so much fun to read. It is Susanna’s wedding day, and nothing is going right. The weather, to items missing and, to a jerk that just had to be a creep this book had it all. Lord Camden is wonderful and truly is her knight in shiny armor. I love how it was written and all the twists. What her father told her at the end was priceless. A mixture of modern and Regency, the story of Camden and Suzanne is deeply touching. They know each other since childhood and their love is to be made official through a wedding to be remembered. The date is chosen, one to celebrate an important moment în their relationship, they have carefully planned everything ahead, so what could go wrong? Well, quite many if not everything. A story of "the best laid plans can go awry" with a happy ending. A lovely book, with genuine and believable characters and a well-thought plot.

Susanna Lorican wants nothing more than to marry her true love Viscount Camden Beckinworth. The day started with a snow storm and like a snowball rolling downhill getting larger the problems also became larger. Will she ever get married and would she keep her secret until after the wedding?

This is a nice short read, something that can be read in one sitting. I enjoyed the characters and am hoping we get to read more about them from this author. A recommended read.

Forever Winter: Great time period and dialog. Perfect title for the story. I loved the character so much. I loved all the characters names. They fit with the time period. I like how Susanna is determined to get married but the weather is not on her side but she has support of her family and that is what makes her strong. She has a secret. It was an amazing story!
