The Line #2

Drawing the Line

Rate this book
This is a novella-length work, 115 pages.

When Detective Jason Morgan is tasked with keeping a local restaurant owner safe as part of a make-or-break case, he rises to the challenge. The job is his first priority, and he owes it to the memory of his father, a detective killed in the line of duty, to do it at any cost. But Jason never expected Serenity Gallagher to be so beautiful, so serious...or so tough to protect.

Serenity has moved from place to place at the whim of her capricious mother all her life. The last thing she wants is to leave the diner she finally calls home, even if it means being stuck with a sexy blue-eyed detective. But she’s the only witness to a horrible crime, and the man behind it wants her very, very dead. Going into protective custody means survival, no matter how much Serenity hates hiding.

As Jason and Serenity bide their time together, they are shocked to discover they have much more in common than the surface reveals. But keeping her safe is Jason’s number one priority, no matter how much he’s drawn in by the woman beneath the witness, and Serenity’s past makes it difficult to trust. As the stakes get higher and the spark burns hotter, can Jason and Serenity draw the line?

Drawing the Line is the second book in The Line series and just as sweet and romantic as I was expecting. This is the first series I have read by this author but I am thoroughly enjoying these books. They're fast reads but packed full of love and mysteries.

I liked the characters in this one, but wanted a little bit more of a connection between them. Jason was a great character and I loved his loyalty to his job and the little inner conflict he had about Serenity.

Bottom line, I'm enjoying this series and will be continuing with the rest of the books and anyone who likes quick, insta-love stories should check out this series.

Le sigh. Another winner from Kimberly Kincaid. As usual, I'm not bothering with a recap because everyone else is going to do it and the blurb does it best so I'll just jump in with what I liked:

Let's start with Serenity. Love her. She feels so real and her job at Mac's doesn't read like something Kincaid just threw in, it's an integral part of who she is and how she operates. I loved how creating food for people was sometimes a way for her to comfort them, sometimes a way for her to get control, and sometimes a way for her to comfort herself. Kincaid didn't make her enjoy cooking because she needed a detail for her heroine. Serenity cooks because it's who she is.

Then there's Jason who's trying to do the right thing. I love how he's genuinely conflicted about his attraction to Serenity, how his way of dealing with the situation is to bring forward all his training and experience to protect them. Again, Kincaid didn't just make him a cop because her hero needed a job. He's a cop because that's how he's wired.

All in all, a great, fun read. Would highly recommend it :)

3-3.25 RATING- An okay read for a freebie. Damsel in distress being protected by sexy detective. I usually love these types of stories but nothing really stood out for me with this one. I may read more in this series if short on time and free but wouldn't purchase or put at top of my TBR list.

I didn't feel the chemistry as much in this one. I know this is a short, but this needed more plot and character development. It was a safe read with no OP drama. There was also no mention of the H's history, which I don't mind that much. However, I need more than that to be engaged.

Wow, I am just so freaking in love with this authors writing style. I mean she can pack so much into such a short but satisfying read. I love the inner dialogue and the witty banter and how so far both books had such a sweet underlying relationship with cooking and family. I adore when my love stories include friendships with guys ..those tough alphas who can show moments of bonding..and they are always so freaking funny ..I love it.

“Uh-huh. I’ll remind you of that when some woman comes flying out of the blue and knocks you on your ass.”
A smile poked at the corners of Noah’s mouth, but Jason was quick to temper the words.
“You might be hanging onto that one for a while. I’m definitely not the head-over-heels type.”
Noah & Jason

OH and by the way one of my favorite soap opera stars off of General Hospital was named Jason Morgan..He's hot and well he is my Jason for this story..yum.

There is no doubt that Kimberly Kincaid is an author to watch out for. I am just so happy to finally have found the time to give these books a go. If you want a sweet yet sizzling romantic suspense ..start reading now!

What a great story. Loved this book. Great characters and story. Had me wondering what was going to happen. Definitely will be recommending and reading her books again.

This is the story of Serenity, a local diner owner. The story begins when Serenity is going in to open her restaurant. She walks in on a robbery. One of her employees is knocked out on the floor. She goes to check on him, turns around to look and then is knocked out too. Jason, who is a local Detective on the police force, and also a visitor to the Diner is set to work on the case. After visiting the hospital, Jason speaks with Serenity about what happened. She knows exactly who robbed and attacked them. Jason knows at this point that she needs constant watch, because the criminal is a very, very bad man. The Police decides she needs Protective Custody and Jason is the guy to protect her.

Being stuck with someone they both realize that they have a lot in common. They both are attracted to each other, but Serenity needs stability. She had a rough life with her mom moving from place to place, she wants a home and stable life and does not want to be stuck with a man she desires. She wants to be at her diner and not under house arrest with sexy Detective Jason.
Find out what happens with these two. Will they survive each other and the person looking to hurt Serenity?

This was another great story by Kimberly. Loved that Jason got his story. Loved Violet & Noah's book and he is a great brother to Violet.

One word: WOW. This budding young author has given us another mouth-watering, all-too-short read. This novella, like her first (Love On The Line), provides incredible character development, intense passion, believable motivations, and great heat in the kitchen (and elsewhere). This one is another page turner for me. I genuinely like Jason and Serenity, and would love to hang out in their kitchen watching their chemistry short-circuit the lights. I'm sure I would have to take the dessert to go ;)

All in all, this is an incredibly well-developed story with real-feeling, motivated and motivating characters. Kincaid has blown me away again!

Highly recommended read - good things come in small packages!

Another hot book from Kimberly Kincaid involving food and hot cops! How can you go wrong. Best part is that these books are novella length. Usually not my cup of tea, but only because I don't feel the stories have ample time to develop. It's different if you are using them as an epilogue to a series or full length novel. However, Ms. Kincaid has a way of putting her characters together and even though the story is short, the timeline isn't rushed.

I enjoyed the banter between not only the main characters, but also the supporting characters as well. And we've met some of these people in the first book, so it's nice to hear about their lives after their story!

Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Kimberly Kincaid's bio is absolutely true when it mentions that she splits the difference between sexy and sweet. She is an incredibly talented author with the ability to write real, three dimensional characters who make you fall for them as much as the story!

This story starts on page one with a bloody body on the floor! Serenity Gallagher is coming to her diner to work the morning shift . She is the owner/chef of Mac's. Walking into the kitchen she finds her cook sprawled on the floor, unconscious and bleeding. She immediately dials 911, and the dispatcher sends police and EMT's strongly advising Serenity to leave the premises immediately till the scene is secure. Right away we learn that Serenity is not much of a believer in orders. Next thing she knows, a huge man with a knife and a very apparent tattoo barrels into her, and it's lights out.

Waking up in the ER with a head injury, and finding out her cook is in surgery is very disturbing, but, equally disturbing is when the homicide detective comes to interview her, she is in nothing but her very attractive underwear! Not to mention he is "Detective McHot-Hot". He is actually Jason Morgan, partner of Noah Blackwell. We met Noah and his now girlfriend Violet in Ms. Kincaid first novel Love on the Line. Jason is Violet's brother.
Serenity is sure she can identify her attacker, and insists on being taken to see mug shots! Picking out her attacker, she yells in triumph, only to see Jason's face go white. She has picked out the mug shot of a very very bad man!

This short novel has so much action, food, and steam you can't put it down! Both Serenity and Jason try very hard to fight their attraction, but living in a safe house, just the two of them? HOT.

I so enjoyed this story, it can stand on it's own, but is a great follow up to Love On the Line. It's witty, suspenseful, and there is even a recipe! I highly recommend this novel. Can't wait to see what's next from Ms. Kincaid.

I purchased this book today off Amazon for .99 cents.
I read it in a few hours and couldn't put it down until I finished it.

Jason and Serenity are definitely a wonderful couple. They are so right for one another!

Jason is a cop who doesn't have anyone in his life. His job is his one priority other than his twin sister, Violet that is. He has loved the diner where he and Violet go every Wednesday.. and even might possibly like the owner?! lol Then something happens and he has to protect this owner of the diner.. Serenity? You guessed right. ;)

Serenity enjoys her job and owning her own business. It is busy, but it is stable and it is her life and she is happy to be in a spot for 4 years. Finally feeling at home.... until something happens and then leaves her with this hunky Jason Morgan.. who she may look at every time he comes into her diner.. when she is out front helping customers that is.... but nah, nothing could happen with these 2, right!?? lol

I enjoy reading about men who think they will never fall in love. no one will make them feel like that.. It is so cute to see that when they do.....it is so amazing to see the transformation and the possessiveness that they take on to protect the woman they love.

I also loved the food aspect in this book!
I enjoy "food talk" in books as well as a sweet romance. :)

This was definitely a good read and look forward to reading more from you! :) :)

After reading Love on the Line I had high hopes for Drawing the Line and Kimberly Kincaid did not disapoint.

After walking in and finding one of her employees stabbed and unconscious on the the floor of her diner Serinity is attacked. After identifying her attacker she is put in the protective custody of Jason. He is the detective that comes to her diner every Wednesday. Sparks fly but can Jason let something other than the job into his heart?

This was a fun quick read. It was refreshing to read about a female who new her mind and wasn't afraid of her feelings. The only issue I had was the very beginning. It kind of felt like I jumped in at the middle of a story but it only took a couple of pages to become totally engrossed.

I really wanted Jason's story as soon as I completed the first novella so, yay! This story did not disappoint. There was only one noticeable error in grammar so, who cares about that. The sparks were flying between Jason and Serenity...it was hot and sexy. My only question was that leaving Serenity unconscious at the scene of the crime was too sloppy for a criminal who was referenced as one who is notorious for his tracks being covered up. Beyond that, it was a joy to read and a smooth story full of creativity and sexy dialogue.

A short but good read. I recommend reading Love on the Line first since that introduces Jason, Noah, and Violet. The events of the first book are talked about but you can read this as a stand alone too. The book started out with a bang and ended with one. Serenity is an awesome character and not a victim at all. Jason is the cop who is put in charge of protecting her. Sparks fly all over that farmhouse between them which makes a great read!

Another great story by Ms. Kincaid. I love the foodie romance genre and how she weaves the food into the storyline. The story grabs you on the first page with a body on the ground in the kitchen. It then keeps you wanting to read more with the great character development of Jason and Scarlett. The descriptions and romance were perfect. The action at the end kept me riveted. Very well done!

For a shorter story I liked this. The detective and his witness. Teaching her self defense was very sweet. Her coping with cooking. I was enraptured with the story throughout. The characters were great as well as their chemistry. The way it wrapped up was great!! Nice job Kimberly Kincaid. I would have loved for the story to continue even longer.

Serenity owns and runs Mac's Diner, a staple in the small town of Brentsville and well-known to all of the locals for her comfort-food menu and outstanding baked goods. She interrupts what looks like a burglary one morning at the diner, and having seen the suspect before being knocked out, she ends up in protective custody with one Jason Morgan. Jason, having just had his partner wounded during a call, is all business when it is determined that Serenity's life may be in danger until the suspect is apprehended. Serenity just wants to open her diner and continue with business-as-usual, but Jason is adamant that she must lay low for now. Naturally, being forced into close quarters means growing attraction between the two, but Jason made a promise to himself that he was a cop first and foremost, promising his late father who had been killed on the job that nothing would prevent him from doing his best to put away the bad guys. Getting involved with a witness under his protection is definitely out of the question.

Since this was a novella, there's not an in-depth character build up, but you get enough of a glimpse into each character to know what makes them tick. I found this to be a quick and easy read, and I like the small-town setting where everyone knows everyone else. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Three and a half stars.

“Kimberly once again wrote a magnificent book. Food and hot cops in a story? Yes!!! This story had it all! And OMG the levels of hotness were high!! Kimberly is an incredible author, extremely talented. Her writing abilities are something real. The characters were fantastic and you simply fall in love with them. Jason and Serenity will forever be in my heart. Their chemistry was explosive and all I can say is that you should add this book to your read list and start it now.
