Gina Hall is done with men who won’t commit. Ten years waiting for her ex to propose wasted her time. Never again. When her friend Kristen starts a game of Truth or Dare, she dares Gina to go on a date with Ethan, who’s amazing and total marriage material.

As Gina plans the going away party for office playboy Chris Bradley, she spontaneously initiates a game of Truth or Dare with him. When his turn comes around, he dares Gina to pose as his girlfriend to help get a flirty colleague off his back. Gina finds playing couple with Chris way too much fun.

Even though Gina and Chris are pretending, their relationship begins to feel painfully real. Fearing she might be falling for another fly-by man, Gina must focus on Ethan so she doesn’t make the same dating mistakes all over again.

4.5 rounding up

Hey everyone! Did you all have a grand weekend? I kicked my weekend off with this book, Truth or Date by Susan Hatler. Friday night, it's late and very quiet at my house. I'm curled up in bed reading a witty, fun, romantic book. Perfect, right?

I really needed a good light-hearted distraction. I was in the mood for a romance because I've been reading lots of dystopian and paranormal lately. (which I also enjoy, don't get me wrong) A clean romance is where my heart sighs though. I just can't help it.

Truth or Date is the second book in a series but these books are stand alone books for sure. You don't have to read one before another to be in the loop. These are also short stories, so be aware that they will probably end way before you are ready!

Susan is so good at writing romance. I just loved Gina and Chris. Their interactions are believable and real. Dialogue flows and it's so easy to settle in to the vibe. The attraction is palpable, humming as tensions build. Yummy stuff, that. (ooh, I'm just thinking I should have been eating Oreo cookies while reading this. That would have even more awesome.)

So, yeah, if you have a couple hours to devote to reading and you have a hankering for a good romance that will make you smile, you need to check this book out. Indulge, enjoy!

My thanks to Susan for being the most awesome author friend and sending me her book to read and review. It's always a happy day to get a note in my mailbox from Susan.

Truth or Dare can be dangerous to play. Gina is caught in a dare. She doesn't mind though because she needs a date for her friend's wedding. Yet when she's put in charge of the farewell party of a co-worker, she just might have gotten herself into a bind.

Ethan is the man she's been dared to go out with. Yet Chris is the co-worker she starts a game of Truth of Dare with, because it's safe, he's leaving for a different company. Oh Gina, what a tangled web. Ok. It might not be a massive web, but it's tangled all the same.

I loved the dynamics in this book. Especially Gina and one of her male cohorts. I can't spoil it for you. Although, my guess is that you'll figure it out pretty quickly which relationship has more spark and chemistry. And some of that leading man's comments...oh my! Gina, don't let him get away.

But of course, problems occur and the tangled web comes into play. Gina's a smart girl and eventually figures out what her heart wants. She's ready to embrace the truth and never let her heart's desire go.

This was another fun read that had me giggling and sighing. It's part of the Better Date than Never series and I love how we get to see the different characters throughout the series. I've read several of the books (not in order) and have really enjoyed them!

Content: Clean. There are some kisses but nothing further. There are some mild innuendos as well but nothing graphic.

Happy Reading!!!

If you are looking for a quick sweet romance, this book is for you. In keeping with the series Gina, one of Ellen's friends, is looking for love. She is recently single, which means she needs a man. Ok, this is about a chick-lit not getting on a soap box.

Love the fun banter between Gina and Chris. Would have been nice to have his POV. Unfortunately, the whole narrative comes from Gina. They do have a very cute dynamic. I also love the camaraderie between all the girls. Sometimes you need a girlfriend to just tell you things straight.

I accidentally read things out of order with this series. Definitely should go in order, each story builds on the others. They are all slightly connected.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Martha Lee, who is lovely. She has a great pace to her read that keeps the story moving. The voices are distinct and consistent throughout. She has just the right level of snarky balanced with maturity. I am definitely going to be looking for more of her works.

I am enjoying these short sweet squeaky clean romances.

(4.5 Stars) I honestly can't imagine wasting 10 years of my life with one person who won't buckle down and commit. That's just what Gina does in Truth or Date, and when the relationship is finally over, Gina doesn't want to take a chance on love again. Chris, a co-worker who is leaving the company, is hard to resist while they're pretending to be a couple. Good thing she has someone else lined up in her effort to try and move on!

I love how Gina reverts back to middle school, playing Truth or Dare with everyone around her. Sometimes those silly games lighten the mood up and make for a fun time. Of course, she'll never take a truth, which makes things interesting. Gina is spunky and not as confident as I thought she should be, or could be. Chris is amazing. She thinks he's way out of her league, but he's just a nice, flirty guy with a great reason for being so fickle when it comes to women.

Content: some innuendo, kissing (some of it French). Clean.

LOVED this!! I liked that Gina's had a rough time finding the right guy (and wasted a lot of time) but she's still got her sense of humor. Speaking of humor, I LOVED all the witty dialogue and steamy moments between Gina and Chris.

This is the PERFECT short, sweet romance.

Truth or Date is a short romance easy to read. Even if sometimes Gina was so oblivious of what's happening around her, it was a really cute and enjoyable story. She's always playing the "Truth or dare" with her friends or with Chris and it was fun. It also turned out to be a "Truth or date?" or a "Truth or kiss?" This one was my favourite ;).

description

After ending her relationship of ten years with her ex-boyfriend Georges, she's scared to make the same mistakes and start something with a man who doesn't want to commit. That's why she's trying to start something with Ethan even if she's really attracted to Chris (he's a "date-aholic" like she said).

For us, readers, it is so obvious that he loves her and you think that either Gina is completely dumb or she's acting like she doesn't get it. It was frustrating when she ends up hurting Chris just to protect herself. But the thing is, that he's been waiting for her since a long time (sweet even if it's probably not a thing who would happened in real life).

And when Kristen was trying to convince her to choose the 'Mr Right' (Ethan), Rachel on the other hand was doing the same thing with Chris (saying they would make a great couple) I wish the end was a little longer but it was fine. And at least, Gina's friends were trying to help her and weren't stabbing each other in their back like in some others books...

So, if you want a quick romance without big headaches, you can choose to read this one. :)
Enjoy.

What a well written story that captured me. I think this is such a sweet story with humor! Gina writes off men after a 10 year dead end relationship. But, her friend Ellen is getting married and Gina needs a date for the occasion. What unfolds is a story that had my cracking up! But also has some hot moments with Gina and Chris!! The tension is thick as a malt shake!! Yummy! Truth or Date has stuck with my like ice cream! If you love a sweet romance Truth or Date is not to be missed. Pick it up! Ms. Hatler I hope you are writing Kristen's book as I need it!!
This book stands alone nicely but I think it is better when you read book one first!

Just FYI~ Contains NO sex or swearing

Romance, clean
This was a cute read, and definitely a fun part of the series. More a fun read than serious, but still clever how it all came together. Gina's story with Ethan and Chris was interesting. You could sense her attraction to both men, and her realization where the real chemistry was. Definitely a light read, but S.H. always knows how to pull it together. Loved the Truth or Dare story. Healing heart for Gina, and hopefully a HEA in one of the other books. S. H. always brings in the 'ending' of her other books in the series in each of the other novels. Fun to see part of the wedding for the other characters. Again, light read, but fun!

He disfrutado mucho leyendo Verdad o cita.

¡Un beso!

3.75 i desperately needed to get out of my slump so i decided to read this cause it was short and tiktok recommended. it did get me out of my slump (i think). overall it was pretty good. the groveling at the end was kinda bad but i liked the tropes like fake dating and enemies to lovers. the end was also very rushed and the beginning was kinda slow. but good quick read

Clean, sweet, heart warming and with a decent amount of humor, "Truth or Date" is a quick and very entertaining story, perfect for a lazy afternoon read. If you've read Susan Hatler's books before, you'll definitely love this one as well.

I really needed this story, because I’ve been reading a lot of books with emotionally draining plots and really intense situations. This story is just one of those that are fun to read and leaves you with a smile for a while after you read it.

Gina broke up with her long-term boyfriend a few months ago because she wanted marriage and her now-ex-boyfriend didn’t. Honestly, the guy is like a lazy jerk.

Naturally, Gina is more cautious and doesn’t want to date casually or with men who aren’t looking for a long-term relationship. So when her friend sets her up with Ethan—who’s technically perfect—she jumps at the chance.

But then, love never works out that way does it? So of course there’s Chris, a coworker who is leaving the company for another. He is what Gina’s deemed a “playboy,” since he goes out on date after date and never seems to want a serious relationship.

But the sparks—oh, the sparks. Gina can practically touch the attraction between her and Chris.

This story is classic mind vs. heart. Gina’s heart says go for Chris, while her mind doesn’t want heartbreak and knows that Ethan is the logical choice.

Normally I don’t like stories as short as this one, because it feels like the author rushed the plot or didn’t expand on the characters—in other words, didn’t make them 3D. But this story didn’t have any of that.

There wasn’t much competition and there’s no drama-filled love triangle (I don’t like those), which is a nice change from all of the intense stories I’ve been reading. The story was sweet, didn’t seemed rushed at all—in fact, the pace was perfect—and it had a really sweet ending.

Though this is the second of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone, which is awesome because that means I can re-visit some of these characters in the next books, while not having to read them in order.

I definitely suggest this book to someone who wants the short and sweet type story with nice characters and a good plot.

This is a fun loving clean book that will keep you smiling and even give you a few laughs. I really enjoy reading this I loved the truth or dare. This is a wonderful short romance with lots of humor, caring, confusion for the characters. Poor Gina has been stuck in a relationship that is going nowhere fast. She decides to end it move on to someone who is interested in marriage and a family. She is oblivious to what Chris really wants in life and who he wants. All her friends play truth or dare it’s a fun game one finds out a lot when one is dared to do things. She must plan a going away party for Chris who is changing jobs, she plays truth or dare with him. He decides to make it worth his wild and asked her to pretend to be his girlfriend which leads to a lot of laughs. She is torn between Ethan her blind date and Chris. Ethan is a sweetheart but there are no sparks he does want marriage and a family. Chris is a playboy who changes women as many times as he changes underwear. There is a reason for this and we do find out what that reason is as the book ends. Sparks sure to fly when those two are together.

Gina doesn’t know if she should go with her heart and the sparks or if she should take the safe road. She has to pick one and take him to the wedding, she decides to take neither. Gina sure is surprised when both turn up what will she do?

synopsis:
gina has been living with george for 10 years, hoping for a proposal. when they break up, she still lives with george in the same apartment, hoping that he will move out. when she is encouraged to take the first steps, gina moves in with kristen, one of her fellow bridesmaids. kristen sets gina up with ethan, her best friend, but gina is more interested in chris, the office playboy who is now leaving the office for a different job. gina is put in charge of the going away party for chris, and they become closer, with gina being dared to be chris' date at a welcoming party at his new job. as gina and chris get closer, gina isn't sure that she can trust her instincts, because they had her living with george for so long.

what i liked: i liked the build in relationship between chris and gina. i liked that chris was so into gina, and that she couldn't see it. the story was well written, and it didn't feel as though there were things about the story that were left out.

what i didn't like: while i get that gina didn't trust her instincts with regards to men, she had to realize that chris was not george, so the same scenario wouldn't happen.

This story made me pout disappointedly in the beginning as I was expecting the same kind of feeling as the first book I read in this series. I read this volume slowly like I normally do with books that haven't properly gripped me yet. It was around forty percent when things started to get exciting for me. I was falling for Chris, well, Ethan was nice, but there's something about Chris that made like him better. And that was answered in the end.

And it wasn't only Gina's heart that flipped over when she receive this text. "Wear the sweats you wore to the office Monday if you want. Whenever you walk into a room, I can't take my eyes off you" My emotion burst, and I was squealing like a starstruck teen.

I was a bit annoyed with Gina's indecisiveness, and I honestly thought that I would be rating this book with 3 stars, maybe 4 but by the end of the book, I was so satisfied I want to make it 5 after all.

Truth or Date is Gina's and Chris's story & I really enjoyed it.

Gina Hall is a woman who wouldn't settle down for any guy. She is looking to be married and have kids and any guy who isn't looking for the same thing as she does is not worth it. So when she and George broke up their long relationship, her plans have failed. Unfortunately, she is pressured to have a date for Ellen's wedding and how much she likes Ethan, her heart might belong to someone else!

I really enjoyed this. It was a fluffy and cute book with interesting character dynamic. I'm glad Ethan wasn't made as a guy with problems like the guy in the first book but he just wasn't the guy for her. Chris, on the other hand, was really interesting. I didn't really imagine him to be the pinning type though. But his chemistry with Gina was fiery.

The backstory was simple & a little superficial but the romance took most of it anyways.

Gina was blind. Or maybe I have read one too many books like this and I know what will happen (and I am not talking about a HEA). I read it faster than I thought it would take me to finish it and I liked it.

I liked Chris but I can't be completely honest about him because I didn't see him long enough in the book to form a complete opinion about him. I felt sorry for him for reasons I am not allowed to say. Ethan didn't felt as the right person for her because he was a safe choice and sometimes safe is boring. I prefer him with the person he ended up with. And as for Gina I can't say that I liked her actions but I understand her thinking behind them.

The story was good, if not a little predictable and I suggest this book especially for something to read after an emotionally draining book.

NetGalley free read

I thought it was adorable. Although I wanted to punch Gina a couple of times for being so obtuse. I loved how Chris played up the pretend girlfriend thing in order to keep going out with her and trying to get her to spend more time with him. I also liked how he was with her when she was with Ethan. A little possessive, but not too much.

Her friends Ellen, Kristen and Rachel were funny. Rachel being the one who tried placing Chris in Gina's orbit. She was just so fixated on what was going on with getting out of her place with George, trying to date the right type of guy and eating her Cookie Dough Ice Cream boyfriend, she couldn't see what was right in front of her.

I thought the story was adorably cute and a very fast read.

I used to be the kind of person that would pass up a short story. That was until author Veronica Blade (who I love reading and reviewing for)introduced me to Susan Hatler (who I now love reading and reviewing for). Truth or Date was a quick and refreshing fun read.

Poor Gina had her up's and down's while searching for love and I loved every minute it. The quick witted back and forth banter between Gina and Chris ignited the pages and fueled the romance. Hatler has a way with weaving even the shortest of stories in a way that leave you satisfied yet wanting more. I can't wait to read the next installments (Hint Hint Susan, I want the whole series!!!) in this fun romance short series.

Truth or Date, written by Susan Hatler, is a sweet continuation of the series Better Date than Never. Gina has just broken up from her dead end relationship with George that lasted 10 years too long. Finally realizing he doesn't want marriage, kids, family...she decides to move on with her life. She's, of course, set up with her new roommates friend who is perfect. Well, if only. In the midst of the set up, she's planning a going away party for a hot guy at work. Truth or Dare is the game of the book and turns into Truth or Date with Chris, the guy from work. Gina NEVER picks Truth...so she's in for a date! Fun, easy, quick read that keeps your attention throughout.
I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is a short, but sweet contemporary romance which features two people playing their own version of Truth or Dare. Part of a series that has re-occurring characters, but each one has its own couple at the center.

In this one is Gina, who wants to get married and have kids, is fending off a commitment-phobe co-worker, Chris, and has been dared by her friends to go out with Ethan, a man who wants to settle down. Which will she choose? Will she have her heart broken again, or will she find the man of her dreams? The truth will out!

A clean romance with just a little bit of kissing, a few What-the-tuck trends (smirks), and a happy ending. What more can a reader ask for?!

Reading another in the series already so obviously this was an enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this book! Gina and her friends would play truth or dare. Gina never picked truth, so it made for an interesting read. Gina also played this silly game with Chris, with a few added rules of Corse. Gina’s heart would beat a little faster when she was around Chris. The two had fun together. Gina had just gotten out of a 10 year relationship. She vowed never to date anyone that was not interested in marriage. She thought Chris was a player, so she told him she couldn’t get serious with him. It was really sweet how Chris made her change her mind. I loved this book. I know anytime I need a light and funny read that I will re-read this book!

A quick, clean read. I don't usually like love triangles, but even though the heroine goes out with two guys at the same time I wouldn't say it was a love triangle, because nothing really happens until she makes up her mind toward the end. There are some entertaining moments, while at other times I found the heroine a bit annoying, and I didn't find the last twist of the ex showing up particularly fitting (perhaps because he didn't seem sorry and by that point I didn't really care about him) but all in all it was a fun read.
If you're looking for a quick and light read without angst or heart-wrenching scenes, you will enjoy this book.

I wish I could give this book like 10 stars!!! Susan is an awesome writer and anytime a new book by her comes out I have to have it the first day....and I can never put them down. She is a feel good chick-lit author and her characters are so real I can feel what they are feeling. I loved getting to feel through Gina as she learns what she wants in a relationship and her chemistry with Chris and Evan!! Would recommend this book for anyone looking for feel good chick-lit.

I choose truth!

It started with a dare. I dsred my self to get out from this reading slump. It was hard but to tell you the truth, this book get me out of that slump. It was an easy and fun read.

I will admit that I didn't like this one as much. I thought Gina was an okay character. Don't get me wrong I was definitely happy for her when she got happily ever after. I did like how we got to see more of the couple from the first book. I was happy they got married. I will admit that I'm a little worried about the next book because I wasn't a big fan of Kristen.
