Caught in a Jam

Rate this book
I’ve loved her since we were kids. But loving someone gets tough when they don’t love you back.

Nixon Black has made mistakes. He made one mistake that would change his life forever. Now he’s working and in school—and he’s got a three year old. He gave up dating when Scout was born, but every night he retreats to another life in his mind, one he could’ve had with her.

Journey spent her formative years on the arm of any boy that didn’t expect anything out of her. She was hiding from the one person who did expect something in return—Nixon. Years after being cheated on and dumped for the last time, she takes a job at a daycare center where there’s a genius of a ginger haired girl whose last name is Black.

But the roles have been reversed and Journey is no longer Nixon’s first priority. Can he make room for the new Journey? And when he does, will he be able to forgive the old one?

Lila Felix is full of antics and stories. She refused to go to Kindergarten after the teacher made her take a nap on the first day of school. She staged her first protest in middle school. She almost flunked out of her first semester at Pepperdine University because she was enthralled with their library and frequently was locked in. Now her husband and three children have to put up with her rebel nature in Louisiana where her days are filled with cypress trees, crawfish, and of course her books and writing. She writes about the ordinary people who fall extraordinarily in wild, true love.

Lila Felix ‘Love and Skate’ series is one of my favorite sweet, ya series. These books always put a huge smile on my face. Just some really enjoyable reads!

Nixon and Journey were best friends growing up. He’s been in love with her for as long as he could remember. But she never felt the same. After every breakup, Nixon was there. No matter what happened, Nixon was there. When Journey went off to college with a boyfriend, it was hard on Nixon. Then his mom died. He was alone. He went through a bender. Alcohol, drugs, any woman he could find that had freckles and red hair like Journey... he used them all. One thing changed his entire life... well, one person. When a one night stand shows up at his door pregnant and not wanting the child, Nixon decides to step up. He has a daughter, Scout. Scout straightens Nixon out. She is his number one priority. Scout isn’t your ‘normal’ child. She’s only 3, but so smart and funny. I found myself forgetting her age. Being a single dad is hard, but he has his family to help. They all love her just as much as Nixon and would do anything for her. As much as Nixon loves Scout, he still feels a void in his heart.
There was only one person who my heart sought. There was only one presence who would ever be able to fill the space beside me and be the calm to the tempest in my soul.

Journey hasn’t had an easy few years either. After being with jerk after jerk, she realizes the only guy who’s ever been there for her, the only guy she has ever truly loved is out of her life. It’s been years since she has seen Nixon. Although she is back in town, she is afraid to look him up. What is he’s married... moved on... Could she cope with that?
I’d been so stupid. He was the best part of me, and I still loved him.

As fate would have it, Journey and Nixon are brought together. Journey happens to get a job at the pre-school Scout goes to. Scout is quick to tell Nixon about the lady at school with hair like hers, but Nixon doesn’t think it could be Journey. Then he sees her. Journey and Nixon reconnect. It is the chance of a lifetime. Journey finally tells Nixon her feelings. Nixon still loves Journey, but he has to put his daughter first. They are a package deal and Journey has to know that. If she wants a shot with Nixon, she has to be all in.
“You’re either all in or your all out. But damn, I hope you’re all in because I think I need you more right now than I’ve ever needed anything in my life.”

All the characters from this series are amazing. I wasn’t sure how much I would love Nixon. Since he wasn’t in the first two books much, I didn’t have that connection with him like I did the other Black boys. Now, it goes without saying that Falcon Black is my absolute favorite of this series, I just adore him! I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly I connected and grew to love Nixon. He is a good father, caring, loving, protective and funny. He also has a few tattoo’s, nipple rings, and he wears glasses- that never hurts! The relationship he had with his daughter was beautiful. Journey was a character I didn’t think I would like at all because of her past, but she is really a changed woman. Her interactions with Scout were great. Nixon and Journey were just too sweet together. Nixon deserved to be happy and what better than a second chance with your first love?

The ending was just great. Lila’s writing is fantastic as always. I loved that all the Black’s played a large part in this story. The Black family is one of my favorite fictional families. I want to be a part of them (and I would settle being the one married to Falcon... just sayin ;) I am glad there is going to be another book in this series (Rex).

Nixon, Nixon, Nixon.
Awesome name, awesome dad, awesome book boy.

This sequel to Lila's series Love and Skate was just as amazing, if not more so, than the rest of the series. Each book is another brother\cousin's story. All the men are family centered and know how to treat a girl. Nixon was no exception.

Nixon isn't cocky, but he knows that he's a good looking guy. He went through a bout of jerkfaceness (New word!) that isn't described in the book in real time, but talked about. He had been in love with one girl his entire life and when that wasn't reciprocated and his mom died, he falls down an emotional spiral. It's understandable. But one night, one mistake in his life brings him the best thing that's ever happened to him. Scout, his daughter. Now a single dad, his reluctance to things was so understandable and it made him daddy of the year for it. But once he decided on Journey, that was it. That Black family dynamic and legacy is one of my favorite things about this series. He's so sexy, probably sexier than the rest of the series, and I love the phase where they just can't keep their hands of each other. He was so in love with her and did'n't need to catch up when they got back together after all those years. He never stopped loving her and wasn't afraid to show it. *swoon*

Scout, a little girl that had me laughing and aweing the entire book. His interactions with her were not only sweet, but funny and completely beautiful. Honestly, I have two boys. I don't know what I'd ever do with a girl since my entire life is centered around all my boys, but this book actually made me want to have a girl just so I could see how she would wrap my husband up in protective, sweet little knots.

Journey was a completely different girl than the previous books. She was so awed at how hard she fell for his little girl, Scout. But she didn't need to fall for him because she loved him all the while. She had known how he felt about her before, but needed to get herself straightened out before she could see what was right in front of her. She even kept his old shirts and boxers, which was really sweet and showed her feelings for him.

We again get to see his family. It alternates between POVs with him and Journey and also a couple more. I love that family. They're are amazingly supportive.

This book didn't have the cliche "I'm leaving you because I'm not good enough" or "We had a fight or misunderstanding and I'm out of here" stuff. What happened near the end made me fall SO much in love with Journey. And Nixon's protectiveness of both of his girls made for some of the sweetest reading ever.

Loved this story, this whole series! Go get started on them!

6 sweet, swoontastic, sexy buy clean, stories that make your heart pound like a teenager in love, stars from me.

ARC Review

I am a super huge Lila Felix fan! I believe there are two, maybe 3 books of hers I haven't read - but that will not be the case by the end of the year. I fell in love with her writing through this series since Love and Skate was the very first Lila Felix book I ever read. With each book she writes, the series just gets better and I was positive that Down 'N' Derby was it...

I was wrong! Just when I thought this series could not possibly get any better, Lila Felix slams it out of the ball park! I already loved the Black family, and I was already in love with Nixon...but he managed to melt my heart just a tad bit more.

Bad boy turned good out of necessity. Nixon found himself responsible for a baby girl, Scout. She is his world, and the moment he found out he was going to be a daddy, he cleaned himself up and got his life in order.

We already knew that Nixon had been in love with Journey since forever, but now we learn the details of their story. We meet Journey, and even though you want to hate her for the heartaches she has caused Nixon, you just can't.

What did I like about the book: What didn't I like?! I mean, it had the Black family, which I absolutely adore beyond words, there is a 3 year-old girl who is brilliant and quick witted. However, I think that what I like the most is Nixon's heart his not only mended it is healed.

What I didn't like about the book: I believe I already covered this *grin* there isn't a thing I didn't like...I can't even complain about the ending because it ends in a good spot, and leaves the door open for book 5 (which I am ready to read now thankyouverymuch)

Would I recommend the book: Have you been reading? YES!! I would recommend the book, I have been telling people to read the series now so that on August 1 they will be ready for this!

It’s been a while since I’ve hung out with the Black family, but hopping in between the pages was just like coming home again. While this is the story of Nixon and Journey, everyone in the family plays a part with some wonderful announcements along the way. But one Black in particular steals the show, and her name is Scout!

While almost everyone gets a dose of drama, it doesn’t get overwhelming. There are also a few scenes that are sure to melt your heart. And if they don’t, well you might want to look around, you may have misplaced yours!

All in all, this is book 4. you know it’s going to be great! So go on, get out of here and go read it!

It's another FABULOUS 5 star READ by Lila Felix. I absolutely love this series. Caught in a Jam is book 4 in the Love and Skate Series. I have to say that each book just keeps getting better. I love the Black family. What I love about this book and the series is that this book was based around Nixon Black and Journey, but we also got so much of the other family members. It was great that Owen, Nellie, Falcon, Reed, Maddox, and Storey played such a huge part in this story. Each one of these books in this series really makes you feel like you are a part of the Black family. It is truly great to see how each couple have grown over the years and how much each of their lives are intertwined with each other.

This book takes place 3 years after the end of Down and Derby, where you are left to wonder how Nixon would cope with everything that happened to him. I was glad to see that after a brief detour down the wrong road, Nixon came out of it a better person. This was all in thanks to a special 3 year old girl named Scout. Nixon was AMAZING with his daughter. You could really tell that Scout was his whole life....at least until Journey came back into the picture. Nixon and Journey' s story is that of a second chance love story. Their history goes back to their high school days. They have a lot of issues to overcome in this book. I was glad that they decided as a couple to take things slow this time around. I also appreciated the fact that they waited to tell Scout until things were more permanent and serious. Journey really had to prove herself to Nixon...because of things she did in her past. I will say I LOVED watching both Nixon and Journey grow into better and stronger people throughout this story. Like I said...I truly felt connected to them. Scout was such an adorable character....I loved her to pieces. She made me laugh at so many spots in this book...I couldn't keep the smile off my face.

This book was filled with such an array if emotions....I laughed, cried, swooned, felt fear, and even yelled a little (at certain characters....you'll know who I'm talking about once you read the book). I will say it again...I LOVE when a book can evoke many emotions from me while I'm reading it. To me that's the sign of a great author.

I would definitively recommend this book/series to anyone looking for a wonderful love story without a lot of outside drama. Even though this one did have a little bit of drama from outside characters...but it was short lived. This was definitely a great addition to this already wonderful series. One last thing that I love about this series is that these books read like a continuation of each other....they just blend really well together.

Did I like this book? Nope. Did I love this book? Not even close!! You wanna know why? Because I freaking MORE than loved this book!!!!!!! There are no words to describe how much this book is loved by me!!! Lila Felix is my most favorite author ever! Why?! Well, isn't it kind of obvious? She writes the wittiest and lovliest books. She comes up with words like fantastical (which I think is creative and boss in its own self) and she puts so much love and emotion into her characters! I have read every single one of her books and this one has to top the cake! Now you guys can see that I'm not very consistant on my blog, mainly because my computers down and I have to use my phone for updates. But in this case, Lila needed this. I needed to write about it! As you guys also know, I don't particularly like putting in a sunopsis with my reviews. But I will give you guys somehing to munch on. Nixon (which is a totally hot name) has lost a lot of things. And he's also gotten a lot too. And one of those previous things is his daughter. And it's all from a one night stand. The mother of his daughter didn't want her and left. And all he can think about is his Journey... Okay so that may have sounded lame ass, but you'll have to read it if you wanna call it that. So buy it. Love it. Cuz I did! :)

It's hard for me to express and explain my love for Lila and the Love and Skate Series. Lila's stories get better and better every time. Her talent is really beyond words and I don't think I can do her justice with just a simple review.

But I'm gonna try *wink*.............

What I liked:

Oh, Nixon! Oh, Journey! I can't believe what two incredible characters these are!! I love them both so much!

Nixon and Journey have known each other for a long time AND Nixon has been in love with her the whole time. He tried to move on, but in the attempt of moving on he needed up being a single dad to his daughter Scout. He steps up and his life revolves around Scout (I LOVE THAT)

Journey has had one bad relationship after another and her "journey" has been a rocky one. Well, fate threw her a curveball when she needed up taking a job at a daycare.

Nixon and Journey begin to connect again, but it's not as simple as it seems. Things are different now. Nixon's priorities are Scout and Journey is trying to find herself.

What I didn't like:

Oh Lilla!!! I thinks its your purpose in life to make me ugly cry when I'm reading your books.

I"m sending you a bill for all the tissues I went through!!!! (I'm only half-kidding)

Cute little story. I love these roller derby ladies.

Journey may not be roller derby but she sure is part of their extended family by way of Nixon.

To my recollection Nixon was only briefly touched on in past books. I definitely remember Brandy and the baby. He really stepped up and Scout is amazing. That little girl has everyone wrapped around her tiny little finger.

I enjoyed Journey but she really did seem like more of a supporting character.

I did know what to expect going into this book. I've never read a Lila Felix book before today. I really loved it. This book was part of a series and it was book 4. I chose to start with 4 before I like this typical story line. Yes I've seen it before many times but this one was a 5 stars for me. I absolutely love the main and secondary characters. Of course little Scout stole the show. Adorable! I will definitely backtrack now and read this series from book 1.

The Love and Skate series by Lila Felix just keeps getting better and better. I loved Nixon in Down N' Derby and could not wait for his story. And once again Lila Felix does not disappoint. Now Falcon is still my #1 but Nixon is a really close 2nd. Don't get me wrong I love all the boys of the Black family, but Nixon is just amazing!

We last saw Nixon traveling across the country helping Maddox look for his dad, but since then he has experienced his own loss. He lost his mother in the most unthinkable way and has used alcohol drugs and woman to help deal with the pain. But one day as life throws yet another curve ball his way he answers the door to finds out that one of his one night stands is now pregnant with his child and she wants nothing to do with it. Nixon decides to straighten out his life and get back on track and take care of his daughter. His daughter, Scout, is now 3 years old. Nixon has become a responsible father whose daughter is his number one priority. He has giving up on dating, drinking and drugs. But there is one thing that is always on his mind and her name is Journey.

Journey and Nixon were best friends growing up, but she left to go to college years ago, leaving Nixon behind. She has gone from one bad relationship to the next and is now back home trying to move on from her last relationship. Journey has always thought of Nixon and realized after failed relationships that Nixon is the one she was meant to be with, the person that she truly loves. But it's been a few years since she has seen Nixon and not sure how he will react to seeing her after all this time. As fate will have it Nixon and Journey are connected in a way that is unexpected. Journey has a chance encounter with Scout and comes to the conclusion that Nixon has moved on, and as much as it hurts she also knows that she needs to see him and tell him how she feels. When Journey and Nixon finally see each for the first time in years, will Journey finally tell him how she feels about him?

Nixon is sweet, caring, smart, witty and very sexy. He has put all his efforts into raising his daughter and has given up any social life that he had. But he wouldn't change it for the world. His relationship and the way he is with Scout is so adorable. She is a mini Nixon and you will completely fall in love with her. Nixon has always loved Journey, even when she was dating loser after loser and crying on his shoulder afterwards. Unfortunately for him she only saw him as a friend and nothing more. But that never stopped the feelings he had for her. But now he has the chance to finally be with Journey, but his daughter comes first and the only way he can be with Journey is if she is all in. Journey realizes how much she missed being with Nixon and it took her moving away to realize that she loved him. That Nixon was always the guy for her. She is willing to give it her all and be with him. But giving it her all means accepting him and his daughter and the baggage that goes with it. Will journey be able to handle it and will Nixon get his happily ever after with the only girl he has ever loved?

Journey and Nixon were so amazing and cute together. The way she fell in love and took care of Scout was adorable. They took it slow for Scout's sake, which I loved but they both realized how much they loved each other and how much they wanted to be together. Nixon has been raising his daughter for the past 3 years with the help of his "brothers" and their wives and now he is bringing a new woman into the family. So it is only natural that some may be a little wary of her in the beginning but she fit in perfectly. Scout loved her and some of the scenes with her were adorable. I loved that the Black family was still just as involved. As always they came together as a family and were always there for each other. There was a particular scene with Nixon and Storey that melted my heart. Did I mention how incredibly sweet and sexy Nixon was? Well he is and between the relationship and bond he has with his daughter and the love he has for Journey he will have you swooning. Caught in a Jam is another wonderful journey into the world of the Black family. I honestly love this series. Lila Felix writes in a way that you feel like you are a part of this amazing family. You will love Nixon and Journey's story and want nothing more than for Nixon to finally get the whole family that he deserves. Another wonderful job by Ms. Felix!

Soon after losing his mother, Nixon tried desperately to booze (among other things) Journey out of his life and straight out of his mind. But a twist of fate has a girl at his front door declaring he is about to be a daddy and she wants nothing to do with it. Nixon immediately straightens out his life and focuses all his energy raising his daughter. Life is full of Scout, school, and work. No time to indulge in dating and partying. No, those days are long gone now.

Journey has jumped from one loser to the next, knowing her heart lies with only one guy: Nixon. Every time, when one relationship didn't work out she would use him up before moving on to the next guy. When a few years pass without Nixon in her life she realizes that she needs him there with her. He was more than just her best friend...more than just a shoulder to cry on. But when a chance encounter with his daughter at her new job, she realizes she just may be too late. Maybe Nixon doesn’t lover her anymore...

Nixon has had to grow up since his days of roaming the country helping Maddox look for his father. No longer the cute, funny guy we all remembered from DOWN N' DERBY. Well, he is still cute, but more grown up and sexier. I know, some major sexiness genes runs all throughout that Black family, am I right? He has had a hard life from the time we last heard from him. Partying, boozing, pill popping, and bedding Journey-look-alikes were all a constant in his life. But all it took was one tiny red head to make him change his ways. And he did. I must say, I am diggin’ new Nixon quite a bit. I mean, does the fact of imagining him as a single dad not do it for you? It does it for me. That is downright sexy. I am sure ovaries will be spontaneously combusting when women read this one. BOOM! Gone.

Journey is one of those girls that come into the story and you instantly want to be wary of her. She is intruding on a family that we have all called our own. Sure she has a past with Nixon, but it is a rocky one at best. She used him, and we have earned that right to be a little judgmental. We look after each and every one of them. We want the best for them. But as we read, we know she has a good heart and only wants the best for Nixon and Scout too. So we ease a bit up, seeing where this relationship goes.

In true Felix fashion we get more than just Nixon's story. Yes, even Storey and her past plays a huge role in this one. And all the other family members make appearances too. One particular family member, Mom, as I like to call her, had me in tears near the end. That woman is just too precious and is the glue that holds the entire family together. I love that lady.

Have I rambled enough for you? Have you dozed off somewhere during my review? I know. I have a habit of going on and on when I love a book. And this one was just as ahh-mazing as expected it would be. Felix keeps iterating again and again, with each book, why she is my favorite author out there. She has the goods that keeps this woman happy. I know with each book I am going to get a great romance and an amazing story. Now bring on Rex's story and make it snappy!

Fav Quotes...
And Journey's mouth-I'd never forget how she tasted or how she pressed against me. I'd wait for that moment forever.
***
This wasn't going to be easy, but nothing worth having was. And she was worth working for every day of the rest of my life.
***
I walked behind him and when we passed the bed I joked, "Hurry Nixon, I feel a sin coming on."
***
But when my lips met hers, the world around me ceased to exist. Fires could break out, earthquakes could shudder, mass panic could explode in the streets, but there was nothing in that moment but her and I.

"Caught in a Jam" is a beautiful testament to the power of true love enduring all tribulations. Again, Lila Felix magically weaves us into the the lives of her character's so the reader deeply feels a full range of emotions. Because of Lila's incredible talents, I feel like a member of the Black family & not an outsider looking in. I hope if you read the "Love & Skate Series" (or any of her other brilliant books!) you'll feel the same way! Ok so lets talk about the book!!

Nixon Black *sigh* God I love him!! Trust me you'll want to add him to your book boyfriend collection as well!! Using drugs, drink & women, Nixon has been trying to unsuccessfully forget the love of his life, Journey Holt. But the result of one night puts Nixon's social & dating life on hold, because now he has a daughter, Scout. Following suit of the other Black men, Nixon steps up to the challenge. Not only is he one hell of an amazing (& sexy) single dad he has a nice job, goes to school & still finds time to clean house & play with Scout (perfect right?) Yet, with all this perfection a Nixon is missing a piece of his heart: "There was only one presence who would ever be able to fill the space beside me and be the calm to the tempest in my soul." ~Nixon

After years of being cheated on by countless men & hiding her true feels for Nixon, Journey is broken. She's realized it's time to grow up & shed the old selfish Journey & forge a new life for herself. Little does she know her new job at a daycare center, will forever change her life for the better. Her favorite student just happens to be the daughter of her true love, Nixon. Journey is stunned & elated to reunite with him, but does Nixon have room for love in his hectic life?

So I obviously LOVED this book!!! One of things I love about Lila's "Love & Skate Series" is that you never have to say goodbye to your favorite characters from the previous books! She brings them all back & never keeps their lives stagnate, you get to see how they've grown, changed & pass their wisdom onto the current character. Nixon was such an incredible strong & devoted man ( he IS a Black though right?) Even though he had the responsibility of raising Scout, he was honored to do it, "Most people lived under the assumption that sex made a boy become a man, but when I walked with her tiny hand in mine, I was a better man." He completely credits Scout for saving his life. *sigh* so sweet right?

It was awe inspiring to watch two people that ached for each other for so long to finally come together & the love ignite into a burning passion. These two had their own love unique love story to interweave into the Black family tapestry. I can't tell you this was my favorite of the "Love & Skate Series" because as I've told Lila, I honestly choose ONE above the others. I can say I'll come back to visit the Black family often!! “I don’t ever want to be separated from you again.
Don’t you know by now that I’m in love with you? Don’t you know that I want you with me always?”~Journey

Nixon lost his mom and then he kind of lost himself also. Nixon started boozing, taking drugs, as well as sleeping around. This was Nixon's way of trying to drown out all the guilt, grief, and pain he has been carrying around since the fateful night his mother took her life. During this time Nixon also shuts out his best friend Journey who he has loved forever. Trouble comes knocking on his door and literally bites him in the butt. A girl he had a one night stand with claims Nixon is going to be a Daddy and she wants nothing to do with the baby. Nixon gets his life straight real quick and becomes an Amazing daddy to his Precocious little girl Scout. She is a Sweet & Spunky little 3 year old girl. Scout has the Cutest, Laugh out Loud personality and her Sassy quips are from hanging out with her Awesome aunts' Nellie, Reed, & Storey. Nixon with the Black family's help all ban together to help raise Scout and show her an Infinite amount of Love. Nixon feels that his life is missing something he finds himself longing for Journey from time to time. Nixon has heard many rumors and one is that she has moved on so he forces himself to try to move on as well. Nixon knows Scout is all that matters but still he wishes he had someone to crawl into bed with at the end of night and just hold.
Journey has gone through hooking up with losers who use, lie, or cheat. The only one Steady & True guy in her life was Nixon, she always felt Safe & Adored when with him but she could never just be with him. One day she finds that Nixon is longer there and she feels Alone. Journey Yearns to hear his voice again or just have him hold her again. Journey ends up returning home and finding a new job at a school. By random chance or fate she is employed at Scout's school and Journey proceeds to fall in love with the red-headed babe. Journey soon finds out she is Nixon's daughter and thinks he must be married so what little hope she had to find him single kind of goes down the drain. Journey takes a chance anyway and goes to his home to see with her own eyes if he's really moved on but Nixon says to her she has misunderstood everything.
From here the two of them attempt to set up meetings so that they may talk about all that has happened over the last few years and how much they love each other. The love they have for each other has never stopped and Nixon asks Journey for Scout's sake she has to be committed since Scout comes first in his life. Nixon will not tolerate games of any kind nor be a rebound, his daughter needs Stability.
Nixon & Journey embark on a Slow, Tender, & Beautiful relationship. Scout falls in love with Ms. Journey too saying she will be her mom one day. Now all of Lila's fans know that no Derby book is without abit of Drama. There are a few sharp curves ahead in their story but I won't spill the beans because it'll take the Joy out of reading Nixon's story.
This is a Another Absolutely Need to Buy/Read Book of Lila's. It's Fan-Fricking-Tastic!!!!!!!!!!!

Nixon = Unconditional Love!

Caught In A Jam is the 4th installment of the Love and Skate Series by Lila Felix and centers around the loyal and lovable Nixon Black. Nixon has only every loved one girl....Journey, his childhood friend. After Journey leaves for college and Nixon loses his mother, he tries to lose himself. He uses alcohol and women to fill the void that Journey has left in his heart. This results in an unexpected blessing by the name of Scout, Nixon's daughter and the other love of his life.

Journey consistently made poor choices regarding guys and relationships. She always ran to Nixon when a relationship went wrong or ended. She used his love for comfort but never allowed him more than friendship. She knows her heart has always belonged to one guy....Nixon. Journey finally realizes she is ready to be brave and let Nixon love her. A few years have passed since Nixon and Journey have spoken or seen each other. In this time a lot has changed; does Nixon still love Journey or is her revelation too little, too late?

Nixon is witty, hard-working, loyal, and a great single father. Scout is his number one priority. With the help of the rest of the Black family, that we know and love (Sylvia, Chase, Owen, Nellie, Falcon, Reed, Maddox, and Storey); Nixon is able to give Scout a stable family and home life. Scout is smart, funny, and precocious. When Journey returns and seeks a second chance with Nixon, he makes it clear that he is open to the possibility of a relationship; but Scout comes first! Is Journey still the selfish girl Nixon remembers yet loves? Or has time and experience transformed Journey the selfless woman, that Nixon and Scout deserve?

Lila immerses her readers into the hearts and souls of her characters! Her characters are complex, humanly flawed, funny, and fierce. Nixon and Journey are no exception. We are invited to share in their growth, hardships, anxiety, triumphs, and love. I couldn't ask for more from an author! I highly recommend this series to other readers. Each book can be read as a standalone. Even though the Love and Skate Series does not have cliffhangers (Yeah!), Lila does leave you longing for more of this unique family. Looking forward to the next book, along with more of Lila Felix and the incredible Black family!

I love Lila Felix's books! I always start a review of her books by saying that so I thought I'd stay with what works.
Speaking of staying with what works, that is exactly what Lila Felix does in her Love and Skate series. They all follow a similar formula, but that doesn't mean that her writing is formulaic at all. If all her books consisted of a story about some womanizing jerk who meets a sweet innocent girl that he falls instantly in love with only to spend the rest of the book either fondling her or pushing her away then her writing could be considered formulaic; but that is absolutely not what happens in a Lila Felix book, and that is why I love them.

This story was about Nixon and Journey. They where bestfriends in highschool and Nixon was alway in love with her, but she was just too wrapped up in herself and whatever guy she was currently enamored with to either notice or care how Nixon felt. I really apreciated the fact that the auther didn't feel the need to "clean up" who Journey was when she was younger. She was a self centered witch with a B and she would be the first to admit it. Journey did a lot of growing up during the three or four years she and Nixon spent apart. And Nixon? Well he spent a good part of the first year doing anything and anyone he could to forget Journey. But that year was one of the best things that ever happened to him because it gave him his little girl. And speaking of Scout she was so smart and funny that I found myself hoping that the author fast forwards twenty years and gives her a story of her own some day.

When Journey shows up as a teacher at Scout's school, she and Nixon meet up again and it doesn't take long before sparks fly!

It took me a while to get into this one, but when I did, I fell hard for their love story.
I can't wait for Rex's story and I hope she contiues with this awesome roller derby formula for as long as she can. :D

PS. Whenever a book is marked as "new adult" I always wonder if that is code for smut, and I'm glad to say that in this case, and all the other Love and Skate books,it just means a clean romance about people between the ages of 21 and 30. There is some cursing though, but that doesn't bother me so much. ;)

This is one of the final books in the Love & Skate series. I want to give a shout out to the author Ms. Lila Felix. She wrote a fabulous series that told the stories of each of the infamous gorgeous awesomely sweet Black boys!! I loved every story but my favorite had to be the very first one the story of Owen & Hellie Nellie. This entire series had amazing names; the names of those Black boys could have you swooning in no time but then the girls they are paired up with that just makes it even more amazing. I think after I was done reading this book I wanted to have nine more kids just so I could name them after these books ;). If you don’t believe me just listen Owen, Nellie, Falcon, Reed, Maddox, Storey, Nixon, and Journey oh and Scout how can I forget her! Oh and I also wanted to be a derby girl ;)
This is the story of love lost. Nixon and Journey grew up together, Nixon was in love with her but she only saw him as a friend to cry on his shoulder not as anything more. She never saw the love he had for her she only saw the bad boys that were no good for her and one day she left town with one of these bad boys. She dropped poor Nixon like a bad habit and did her thing.
Meanwhile Nixon goes on a Journey binge. He spends his nights drinking and in the presence of many girls that look like Journey in order to forget the red headed beauty only leads to a little ripple in his plan. This ripple comes in the form of precious Scout. Nixon straightens up his ways and becomes the daddy of every little girl’s dreams. This life is so full now even without Journey in it he seems able to move on.
Only now Journey is back! She wants Nixon now! Can they begin again? Can she win his heart back?
“I want a chance to get you to fall in love with me again. I’ve been in love with you for as long as I can remember but I was too selfish to see it. I’d do anything for a shot with you.” ~ Journey
Can Nixon let her back into his life? He is a package deal now can Journey accept his little girl?
I am not sure if this is the last we see of them daggum hot and sexy Black boys but this is not a series that is easily forgotten with their quirky derby girls and yes the whole gang is in this story too!

Lila Felix freaking rocks! All of her books are wonderful reads that draw you in and keep you glued to the pages. This series just keeps getting better and better. First there was Owen and Nellie. And they drew us in along with the side characters. When the second book came out I couldn't wait for Falcon and Reed but also knew we would get more Owen and Nellie. Loved that book too. When book three came out I was freaking bouncing in my seat for more of all the past characters but also for Maddox and Storey. They didn't disappoint either. Now I got to read Nixon's story, and his journey with Scout and Journey and I have to say I loved every single second of it. Nix and Journey's story was sweet, funny, loving, and even a little sad (yes, I may or may not have cried in a few certain spots). And oh my gosh I loved Scout! She just had me cracking up.. She reminded me of the show 'Kids say the darnedest things' I just couldn't wait to read what was going to spout from her little mouth.. So PRECIOUS!! And of course, as always we got our "fix" of our old characters we LOVE so much! I can't wait for Rex's story and the girl who wins his heart!

When Lila writes her characters and when they are described to you in the book.. You can almost picture each character as if they are standing in front of you. She also brings that character to life and gives them a personality that truly fits. They all have depth and make you laugh and cry and you never know from one minute to the next what they will say. I love reading books from her because they always hold my interest. I have yet to be disappointed by her work, she's the type of author that if I saw she had a new book out I wouldn't think twice about buying it without reading the back. Because I already know I won't regret the purchase.. Yea, she's just that damn good!!

5 Beautiful Stars

Nixon and Journey were best friends growing up. He has been in love with her for as long as he can remember, but she didnt share the same feelings. Nixon was always there to pick up the pieces and be her rock after every failed relationship. When Journey follows her boyfriend to college, leaving Nixon heart broken. Then his mom dies. Nixon turns to alcohol, drugs and any woman he could find. Until a one night stand shows up at his doorstep pregnant and not wanting the child, Nixon decides to step up. He has a daughter, Scout, she is his number one priority. As fate would have it, Journey moves back into town and gets a job Scout's preschool where they cross paths. Will Journey finally tell Nixon of her feelings towards him???

"There was only one person who my heart sought. There was only one presence who would ever be able to fill the space beside me and be the calm to the tempest in my soul.

This series keeps getting better and better!!! I wasn't sure what to expect since Nixon isn't THAT present in the first two book and we don't get that connection until book three. But after reading Caught in a Jam, Nixon is one of my favorite of the Black boys. He has a few tattoos, glasses, nipple rings, loving, caring, funny and a good father-whats not to love?? Lila leaves you wanting more from this unique family even though there are no cliffhangers! I'd have to say the Black's are one of my favorite fictional families. This is great read you wont want to put down, that teaches unconditional love!

Caught in a Jam is the fourth installment of the Love and Skate series. Nixon and Journey are a trip and the little spit-fire of a daughter Nixon has really brings so much light to the book. It is a roller coaster of a relationship for Nixon and Journey and Lila Felix kind of goes against her MO. In a lot of Lila’s books you can tell from the start that the relationship will work and everyone lives happily ever after -and I absolutely love it- but after Nixon and Journey’s history, hopes, and insecurities will they still be able to make it work?

This isn’t the first time we’ve met Nixon. If you’ve read Down ‘n Derby you started making a bond with him and got a glimpse into his romantic struggles. So you go into this book with a bit of background knowledge and in no time at all you absolutely love him. Mixon is so strong and responsible. He is that strong rock that any girl would need.

Journey’s had a life filled with a string of sorry excuses for boyfriends, lying family, and the rock of a friend that is Nixon. Journey is hopeful, and determined. She ets a wake up call and realises she wants more out of life than what she is giving herself. And when Journey sets her mind on something she will get it no matter what it takes.

Caught in a Jam may not be my favorite book by Lila but it still managed to steal my heart and play with it till the very end. You also get glimpses of the rest of the family through chapters in their point of view. This book was fantastic. So if for some reason you haven’t read this one or any of the series, stop depriving yourself and get on it!

I had the pleasure and when I say pleasure I do mean pleasure, hahaha... Of reading this book before it was released. What can I say, I love Lila to pieces. My only gripe Lila... I need MORE! Love ya Darlin'

Nixon, Nixon, Nixon... Where do I even begin with you. This story pics up Nixon, who is a cousin of the Black brothers, a few years after him and Maddox return from their little trip out west. Nixon introduces us to his little girl Scout whom I just adore!! She has such the personality that you will become in such awe of her. That little girl is smart! Some of the things she says and does though reminds me of my three year old so of course I couldn't help but giggle because I kept picturing my little one doing or saying some of the things Scout says. You really never know what those kids are going to say. Then in walks Journey, Nixon's long lost love. The novel walks you through their path that continuously entwines with Storey's past as they try to rekindle their relationship and hide it from a too smart for her own good Scout.

The ending and epilogue will leave you in happy tears, least it did me since I'm a big baby and all. 5 stars all the way as always Lila!!! See you in a few weeks!!! Mwah!

Lila did not disappoint and has outdone herself again! I LOVED this book. I read this in one day and could not put it down. Nixon is so southernly perfect!! He has charm, brains, manners and wit...he's great! After losing his mom Nixon dealt with life by drinking and drugging and that eventually that caught up with him. Welcome Scout. Scout is ADORABLE!!!! Pint size female version of Nixon, I couldn't wait to see what to hear what she said next.

Journey is sweet but I'm kinda skeptical of her, maybe it's just because she's somebody new to the family. Yes, they are my family now. She went from guy to guy to guy not knowing who her true feelings were for...Nixon. She always considered him a friend and didn't think anything more of it until later.

You get the whole family in CIAJ, it was like a reunion! Everybody played a big part in Nixon's story and oddly an old ex brought Journey, Nixon and Scout closer together. This reunion brought out laughter, smiles and tears. I couldn't but help smiling, a lot, while reading this. You have to read this one, you won't regret it!!!!

What to write? What to write?
It was a 3.5 stars for me. It had good writing and editing, the characters were lovable and an I-'VE-LOVED-YOU-FOR-YEARS theme I love. It was fast paced and I liked the fact that characters from former books appeared not as an afterthought but as part of the plot. My one complain is that Nixon and Journey announced their love too quickly, thus (practically) ending the book. So what do we do when we want to make the book longer? We throw some cliches around such as a villain from a previous book, a custody battle that deflated too soon ect.
All in all it was a nice weekend read, with likable heroes and heroines and a too-smart-for-her-own-good toddler you couldn't help but adore.
I would recommend it to all romance fans.

Another great addition to the Love and Skate series. I was really eager to read this one as Nixon's story was so different from everyone else's. It took me a chapter or two to figure out what was going on but once I did I couldn't help but love the story. I think this one has been my favourite so far apart from Nellie and Owen's story in the first book. Journey and Nixon's story was great and Scout was just awesome. Who has a three year old that knows (sort of) how to say narcoleptic? Anyway, this was an awesome story and I'm looking forward to reading the final chapter in the series next. I'd recommend picking this series up if you're looking for several short and sweet romantic stories that can be read as stand-alones but are much better if you read them as a series.

This is what's been missing. This was a good read from her and I finally figured out what was wrong with the others (not that they were bad). The were too young for the emotion and connection that they felt- or at least to me they felt that way. In this book Nixon and Journey were adults. Yes, in their early twenties, but they were still adults. They had both experienced life that allowed them to be the mature individuals that we saw and the whole story finally just fit together. I loved it. I loved Nixon. Such a good dad. I'm impressed with single mothers, but I'm always really impressed with single fathers- especially of little girls. All around good story. On to Rex...

The story of Nixon, Journey and Scout was a beautiful one and I dare anyone to read it and not fall head over heels in love with all of them....especially Scout!!!

These books are written with so much heart and passion, you cant help but fall more and more into each one as the series goes along...

Looking forward to Rex's story next

I can't believe how much I love this series. This is another excellent continuation of the Black family. My only complaint? We got so little of Reed's baby progress. I know this is Nixon's story, but if you do the math, Reed was due by the end of the book and we have no idea if Falcon gets a boy or girl? Gah!
