Dr. John Fell has settled into life with his new boy. They are living together at John’s cabin and the boy is working as an apprentice as a mechanic and looking forward to the day when he can take his journeyman exam. John is working for the Foundation and focusing on his boy. Add in their dog Ghia and life is pretty well set. But John can’t help the feeling that everything is too good, and that something bad is inevitably going to go wrong.

One day John takes his boy in to work since the truck isn’t working and spends the day in town. While swimming at the pool, John can’t help but reflect back on his first meeting of Rob, his boy who was brutally murdered. John has never gotten over Rob’s death, and that fact that he couldn’t be there for Rob when he died and hasn’t been able to avenge Rob’s death continues to haunt John. Ironically it’s when John returns home with his current boy that some terrible news shakes up the happy life they have created.

It is while flipping through the mail that John discovers a part of the past has come back to haunt him and it dredges up his feelings of helplessness and anger over Rob’s death and puts stress on his new relationship with his boy. It leads to fights and anger and tears and admissions of deeply felt emotions. John must find a way to consider the needs of both his boys, one dead and one living, and yet finally be able to put to rest his guilt. The tie he has to the past has kept John from moving forward completely and he must break it before losing possibly the best thing that has ever happened to him. His boy.

Deeper Submission is yet another incredible story in the Dr. Fell series. With the conclusion of the previous story, Teacher’s Pet, John was building his life with his boy and looking to the future. Yet the one thing that wasn’t resolved was his past. This story beautifully picks up where the previous left off and gives us a glimpse of the life that Dr. Fell and his boy have carved out, and deals with the biggest obstacle standing between them and happiness. All of the stories have been driving to this point and both the journey to get here and the resolution are deeply satisfying and incredibly captivating.

There are some intensely difficult yet beautifully revealing scenes between Dr. Fell and his boy. The boy has entered willingly and happily into a Dom/sub relationship with Dr. Fell, but that in no way means that he has given up everything or is willing to accept any kind of treatment from John. Some of my favorite scenes of this entire book are when the boy confronts John about his plans and actions. Although submissive, the boy is in no way weak, and John is reminded of that quite clearly. The boy has become one of my absolute favorite characters and his strength and love are just what John needs. The two are perfect for one another, and John hopefully will keep from destroying their relationship by making a rash decision.

Thankfully we get yet another glimpse of another favorite character, twink, and his “Day-Glo pink cupcakes” are simply a sign of his love and care for Dr. Fell. He has come so far and he truly cares about John and wants him to be happy with his boy. There is much more to come for twink, and for all of the boys that Dr. Fell works with through the Foundation, and I hope that McGinley will continue to revisit them in the future.

The sweetness (McGinley will kill me for saying that word) of this story is the little moments between Dr. Fell and his boy. The life that they have created together is full of adorable little moments that are truly romantic, although Dr. Fell would never admit it. We have seen John pining for boys he couldn’t have but this boy is the one he really needed and his heart has finally begun to heal. This for me is the most romantic story of the entire series and just like in life, it is the little things that count. John is able to really look at his life and knows that no matter what he wants it to be with his boy. He says, “I want to share this life with him,” and that is the core of the entire story.

At one point, John reflects on something a very important person in his life once said, “being a top really is a deeper submission.” This not only ties to the title of this story, but is a hint into what it is really like for John to be the Dominant in a relationship. It is not always what it seems to be on the surface. True dominance involves a deep connection and willingness to commit oneself totally and completely to another. It is a beautiful relationship between two people, and Dr. Fell and his boy are one of the best written examples.

As always with the reviews for stories at this point in the Dr. Fell series, I refuse to reveal the identity of the boy and here I went a step further and decided not to reveal the “unwelcome news” that is mentioned in the publisher’s blurb. My summary may seem a bit light, but there is a reason for that. I want all readers to be able to discover this story the way I did, and for that reason I want to reveal as little as possible here. Suffice it to say that you will not be disappointed if you take a chance on this series and you will be as anxious as I was to reach this point once you start reading.

While you could start with this story I do not recommend doing so. This series builds upon itself from one story to another, and it is one of the most engaging and fascinating series I have ever had the pleasure to read. I was deeply engrossed in the characters after the first few stories and I recommend that all readers start from the beginning. In chronological order, the published stories include Pet Sitting, Pet Rescue, “A Short Leash” from Toy Box: Rings, “Rude Mechanicals” from Taste Test: Summer Solstice, Exotic Pets, “A Secret Vice” from Toy Box: Nipple Clamps, Samhain, Sol Invictus, and Teacher’s Pet. You will not be disappointed in this series that I cannot more highly recommend!

From the title of the last novella in the Lost and Found series, you would think that Dave, the new pet of Dr. Fell, is fated to be even more a submissive for the more and more dominant John... and instead I believe that the Deeper Submission of the title is referring to a different type of submission, the one that will see John surrenders to love and to the need to finally have a little family of his own.

Now don't get me wrong, there are no babies or smushy feeling between John and Dave, but there is for sure a different type of relationship than what John is used to. Dave willingly decided to submit to John, but he is not a weak boy who couldn't have a different life if he wants; he is a smart man, with a deep proud, and he will not be the all to dependent man that you usually find in a D/s relationship, and maybe this is the reason why I like this novella, and why I think that finally John has found his match.

John's love for Rob was deep and true, but I don't know if it would have lasted. Rob was the perfect pet, always eager to satisfy his Master, and not only in a sexual way... maybe it would have lasted since John would have not been subjected to years of regrets and ifs. John and Rob together would have been a good item, probably more according the rule of a "classical" D/s relationship. But Rob is dead and John seemed unable to forget him... probably since he searched him in every following pets. When he stopped that uselessly search and accepted a man totally different than Rob, in that moment he starts a new life. Dave is not Rob, and he even wants to be like Rob, and he is exactly what John needs: a man that is young enough to be molded to some of John's quirks, but clever enough to not be totally controlled and dominated.

This is a very nice wrap up of Dr. John Fell's adventures, and the four book is probably the more romantic of them all, since you have finally the chance to see the tender side of John.

All I can say is that I love Dr. Fell. This story is part of a book... The Complete Dr. Fell - Volume Two: Found.

I love the characters in these stories, they are so alive, so real, so laugh-out-loud funny sometimes, that I can't say enough about how good Syd's writing is.

These are some of the very few paperback books I've bought since getting my Kindle, so you KNOW how much I love them. They even are in my-6-star-favs list.

Highly Recommended and thanks to the M/M club for providing me a reason to do some re-reading of my favorites!!!

*sigh* I don't know what to say...
In this book, John totally wasn't a Dom .__.
Like when he got together with Dave, they're just a normal couple...
I kind of missed the mean and strict John Fell from the beginnings :/
