Ava's Demon is a science fiction webcomic about a girl named Ava and the demon haunting her.
Book One, also referred to as Volume One, is the first volume of Ava's Demon and contains the first 500 panels of the webcomic, from Chapter One to Chapter Six. Throughout the book, there are several animations such as "End of Chapter One", "Wrathia's Pact", and "The Plan."
I binge read the 1000+ pages of this webcomic in one sitting.
Oh no, the story is not done, in typical fashion of webcomic series, but this would be one of them stories I need in a physical copy (although I would be missing out on the short animations and beautifully selected music).
Overall, this webcomic has such breathtaking art and animation, and the story/plot is so intriguing - throw in some endearing and complex characters and wonderful music - I just couldn't get enough of this!
I've been noticing a blow up in graphic novel and comic book loving, and for those new to the world, I would definitely recommend this because it's just perfect.
There is a bit of cussing in it, but I feel it adds to it really.
This is just a PHENOMENAL comic, easily as impressive as anything coming out of the big trade publishers these days. And it's all free online. I honestly can't get over the quality of art, characters and storytelling in this project, it's phenomenal. http://avasdemon.com/
This is an ongoing webcomic of which I am one or two updates behind. It's a comic, but published online and no it's not like manga-scanalations. This is carefully crafted by the author with animations and music and so much colour-OHMYGOSH it's beautiful.
AND IT'S FREE.
Quick summary: The story follows a girl called Ava, who sees a demon that no one else can. She makes an angry outburst in one class and is sent to the principal's office only to have her planet destroyed with her escaping on another classmate's ship. They crash-land on another planet full of worshippers of "Titan"- a God who apparently created all the Universe.
Won't say anymore for fear of spoiling. Check it out here.
I HAVE NEVER READ ANYTHING LIKE THIS! This webcomic has it's own format on an online platform that presents it as a virtual book. It's set up as a panel per page and although it can be a little bothersome this aspect is completely compensated by the panels that slide into each other effortlessly, making the comic a lot more dynamic than any other format ever code. The artwork is flawless, out of this world, the style looks fairylike and the color pairings are just nothing I've ever seen. In addition, some issues are completely made up by a video, where the panels interact by becoming an animation with an apt musical background. It's seriously insane how much work the author must have put into this. I only wonder how well it can transcribe into actual paper, is anyone in possession of the physical book willing to clear that up for me? Honestly I only have praises, if you want a hint of the story just check it out, you will surely be sucked in just like I was. Now click here!
I'm going to go ahead and mark this as finished, because GR hasn't updated the word count and otherwise it may stay on my currently readng shelf FOREVER. And that wouldn't do for my cleanliness needs. But this is... incredible. Stunning. I want to frame many of the frames, and the characters are so well developed and it's not exactly a story where you have good characters and bad characters. There is darkness and secrets in all of them, and I so love seeing it get developed more and more. Aah. Fantastic.
This story was a collection of beautiful artwork, and a plot that kept me interested throughout it. I completely enjoyed this story and WANT MORE!!! It wasn't even a cliffhanger! It practically left us in the middle of a conversation! (so I guess it was a cliffhanger) Either way I loved it and I wish the rest of the story was already uploaded.
This comic is incredibly beautiful. I still can't get over how pretty the panels look and the way the artist uses color is simply breathtaking. It's not finished yet, but the plot is really intriguing so far and I'm excited for future updates.
The characters are mostly interesting and strike a decent balance between 'enough mystery' and 'exposition overload'. However, I feel like there was a point where I maybe missed a chunk (or it felt like it) and wondered: 'how did we get here?'
So I’ve actually read this webcomic a few times over the years—I would say this is my third time (?) reading this beginning section. But it’s been so spaced apart that I feel like I’ve read it for the first time. And this is the first time it’s been printed as a graphic novel!
Everytime I’ve read this I’m just so impressed with the story, art, colors, and just sheer dedication that goes into this. Soooo much talent lives in this. The story and characters are so unique and gripping—I think I’m at a 4-star for now only because we are only just getting introduced to everything in this volume. I know the webcomic is still ongoing so I’ll have to decide if I want to wait for subsequent volumes or if I want to read online! But yeah—this was a nice quick read (or re-read I guess! and I ate UP the art
Okay. . . So I re-read Ava's Demon. Just tear my heart out why don't you?
Ava's Demon follows Ava, a girl who is seemingly troubled both by depression and by a demon who has shares her conscious, Wrathia. At the doom of her current home planet, she boards a ship with her archenemy Maggie, and Maggie's new admirer, Odin. Despite her unwelcomed position the three of them remain on the ship until it crashes causing Ava and Wrathia to merge. The book truly captures the difficulties of depression and sacrifice. I heavily related to Ava when I first read this comic in 2012, because I recognized my own emotional trauma in her. The feelings of not being important or valuable enough to be saved, as you watch everyone around you surviving and thriving. I also heavily ship Odin with Ava, but that's a story for another day. Overall, it's a really good online comic if you enjoy having your heart ripped out and meeting some incredibly power-hungry sexy characters.
Fantastic. Characters A+, Art A+, Story A+, and there’s even super cool animated sections at the end of chapters! And some randomly spread throughout the comic too. If you read the webcomic, that is. Here’s the link if anyone wants it (and you do want it, because it’s awesome). http://www.avasdemon.com/chapters.php
So, we have Ava.
Ava has a demon named Wrathia. Only Ava can see Wrathia.
Wrathia hates Ava, and Ava doesn’t like her too much either, considering Ava thinks Wrathia has pretty much ruined her life.
Wrathia wants to find her husband, Petri, and her other warriors, so she can defeat this Titan guy.
He's some kind of Big Brother Kim Jong Un galactic cult leader or something.
We also have Magnolia, aka Maggie. Maggie has a secret. She and Ava used to be friends, but not so much anymore… at all.
Then there’s Odin. Mysterious, stuttering Odin. The guy who purposefully kidnaps Maggie, and accidentally kidnaps Ava.
And Gil. Sweet, naive, cult-follower Gil. The guy who has a crashed spaceship in his front yard. He wants to be a doctor.
Gil also has a demon. Her name is Nevy. Nevy is a good demon, nice to Gil, and she always supports him (unlike Wrathia, who tries to force Ava to kill herself constantly).
Oh, and there’s sisters Raven and Crow, and someone named Olai. They’re all somehow connected to Odin.
This is a story of adventure, human interactions, and the struggles of life from different perspectives, where we have to figure out the past to figure out the future. It’s also a story of pacts and secrets. And it’s oh so good. Ava’s demon is a science fiction graphic novel following the exploits of Ava, a fifteen year old girl born into a dystopian society who has been plagued by an alien “demon” which only she can see. This spirit has brought it upon herself to make Ava’s young life miserable with a distinct goal in mind. Said goal, once achieved, will free Ava of the demon and allow her to live out her life normally, a dream Ava has always had, for with a new clean slate Ava would finally be able to feel the love of others (a luxury which her demons presence kept from her), but will she be able to complete the task her demon has laid out for her and achieve new life? We shall see… Just from writing that little synopsis alone are allowing the reasons why I enjoyed Ava’s demon so much to come floating back up to the surface, the plot alone is very intriguing and honestly surprisingly unique considering it appears to be one of those “normal teenage girl get’s put into unusual circumstances and must go on adventure to make things normal again” tropes. Although the plot itself is very good the true highlight of this novel is the absolutely beautiful way it is illustrated. It is apparent when looking at each of the individual panel how much attention to detailed was given with the colors, expressions, and scenes to which the reader views. In the end, the only negative point I can give it is that it cuts off very suddenly, in a way that makes the reader jerk away in surprise thinking: “It’s already over? what?” However, even this can be seen as a sort of compliment, because it implies (well at least in my case) that the reader is not only surprised but also disappointed that it had to end so quickly. However, if this is the case for both you (reader) and I, than we shall simply have to wait in frustrating anticipation for volume 2 together!
Really interesting story and some really beautiful art and appealing designs. I'll have to look this up online and read it, especially since some of the pages are intended to be animated.
It's a great webcomic! The art is absolutely beautiful and the plot is very interesting. I'm a little sensitive to the gore at some parts but other than that it's great!
Ava's entire life has been ruled and ruined by the demon in her mind who occasionally controls her actions. She only had one friend, Maggie, and the being destroyed that relationship as well. Now Maggie doesn't want anything to do with her, and when a weird young man tells Maggie that she has to leave the planet with him for her safety, Ava ends up coming along. Things go from bad to worse, and the three of them end up crashing on another planet. In order to save her own life, Ava finally agrees to make a pact with her demon, who says she used to be a queen named Wrathia Bellarmina. Her homeland was destroyed by Titan, and the only plan she could come up with involved cursed wine that would allow her and the most powerful warriors in her empire to die and attach their souls to other hopefully more powerful beings and eventually take back their homeland.
Ava has been a disappointment to Wrathia, up to this point. The pact changes things. But do the warriors Wrathia is looking for really want the same things she does? It's unclear, and she's unaware that several of the people around Ava are likely exactly the ones she's looking for. One of them is with Maggie and is reluctantly helping her with her constant quest for romance with the cutest guy in her vicinity. Another is with a young doctor named Gil...who is unfortunately a devout new member of Titan's army.
I remember reading a bit of this online and being blown away by the vivid colors. Everyone has signature colors, resulting in panels that are often a treat for the eyes. As for the story, well, I still don't really know what's going on. There appear to be at least two or three sides involved here, and it's unclear whether any of them could be considered "good." Then there are characters' personal motivations, which are also occasionally a bit murky. Gil has a full-on "happy cult member" vibe. Maggie recognizes this but ignores it because she thinks he's attractive. And Ava is just...a mess. She literally vomits lava at one point, and those glasses with the leaking tar-like stuff can't possibly be good for her.
Things become downright horrific by the end of the volume, with people getting killed left and right and a truly disturbing sequence in which
Will I be continuing this series? Yes, probably. The artwork helps make up for the fact that I have no idea what's going on or what to expect. If I'm just as clueless by the end of volume 2, though, that will probably be my stopping point.
The year is 3031, & when teenager Ava Ire is mortally wounded in an space travel accident, an alien demon named Wrathia Bellarmina offers her a second chance at life in exchange for help with her revenge plot.
And that's only a small part of what's going on here. There's also:
- Odin, a moody boy who's helpful to Ava but is on some kind of tight-lipped mission involving someone named Olai (he also has scary twin sisters) - Gil, a boy who's way too deep into this cult called TITAN that's all the rage in the 31st century - Maggie (Magnolia), a girl who has a pact similar to Ava's with a tree spirit named Tuls Tenebrose who lives in a plant dimension & spends his time painting pictures of someone named Ranunculae - Strategos Six, who or may not be a robot but is definitely in charge of the Gate to Paradise
So yeah, it's a colorful cast of characters, which is fitting because this book is full of wonderful digital painting, & each character has their own color as a motif. Ava is green, Gil is blue, Maggie is green, etc. This is reflected in the character's speech bubbles as well as their surroundings; if a scene centers around Ava, the reds in those panels are very prominent, & likewise with green for Maggie, & so on. The way these colors flow into each other & combine is very pleasing & makes the book fun to flip through.
This is originally a webcomic, & I've learned that the online version includes some light animation & music, so I may have to give it a reread at avasdemon.com. The story throws a lot at the reader, & it took me a moment to orient myself, but I can tell Michelle Fus is developing a rich world & am stoked to read more.
I cant believe a web series I've been keeping up with since middle school is not only still going strong BUT ALSO GOT PUBLISHED??? BIG congratulations to Michelle! You've been working so hard and this book is beautiful evidence! The art is just a beautiful on paper as it was online if not more so because we get these occasional big beautiful 2 page SPREADS! Seeing this gorgeous art blown up brings me so much joy, book 2 is already out too so ill definitely be getting my hands on that one too! I'm so excited to keep adventuring with Ava and Odin and the gang and I CANT WAIT to see how it all wraps up ❤ If you go to read this I also HIGHLY recommend you check out Michelle's YouTube channel first and have her videos on stand by as you read. Not for homework or anything but because she actually uploaded ANIMATIONS of the books most intense scenes! Reading them was all well and good but trust me, watch them once and you will see they hit WAY different in an INCREDIBLE way!
I first read this comic in elementary school, I barely understood what I was reading but I was enthralled by the art and characters. I recently found a physical copy of the comic and got the chance to reread it, I didn't even realize what a profound effect this comic had on my art until I revisited it. There are definitely parts I didn't exactly enjoy, I feel like the love plot happens way too quick (which may be the point) but nonetheless it comes off strangely. But ultimately the art in this story is BEAUTIFUL, every panel is a joy to look at, the use of color and gradients is unlike anything Ive ever seen in any other comic before. The image of a person being rebuilt from their nervous system up has stuck with me my whole life and its been crazy getting to revisit this story.
Another story I read via the web site (http://www.avasdemon.com/), this web comic tells an interesting and very beautifully illustrated story. Unfortunately it is not complete, and I can't tell how far through the story it is. There are many developments concerning the characters, but there is obviously a lot more that has to happen before it comes to a conclusion. Well worth reading, but hard to fully recommend until I know how (and when) it is going to end. A very, very promising beginning however.
Daaaannnnnggggg! This was a little slow to start but then look out! I wish I already had the next one - I am totally invested. This is totally worth the read and the art is gorgeous, just amazing. I was getting lost in the illustrations, like I was attending an art show just for me.
it's like the artist enjoyed drawing one character and put all their effort into them, and rest were afterthoughts. also, there was just waaaay too much going on with 0 explanation or incentive to care - it's just bad writing.
I was browsing and found this incredible web comic! The art, colours, and concept are amazing. Its a Sci-fi/Fantasy world with aliens and demons and magic.
