Sigh

I know I said I'm determined to finish this series, but holy hell, I am considering entering the Witness Protection Program to get out of that vow.

So, the author has changed the world-rules in this book again. This time, it appears that the vampires are in horrible pain and have to be chained down when they are healing injuries. All of the sudden.
Now, you need to understand that the vampires in these books are not just hurt on a rare occasion. No. Every book has a vampire get mortally wounded at least once, a fire, a kidnapping, and a shooting or two. They have been doing major healings in every book. Book two featured a vamp that was burned alive - to the point of him being found at the morg as he quietly healed. But, in the last book I noticed a shift and suddenly it was painful to heal. Well, in this one, it has now apparently become so excruciating that they have to be chained to the bed while they heal from their injuries.

So, in this book we have Basha and Marcus. They are both idiots, so I guess it's a match made in heaven. Basha is a vampire who is the mother of a serial-killer psycho vamp that has been the villain in this series for a while. She has no idea that he's evil, even though it's very obvious, because she is an idiot. She has made a life for herself by traveling with a carnival as a fortune teller. So, she dresses like a girl wearing a slutty-gypsy costume for Halloween every day. Even when she is not working. Because, again, idiot. I don't think I can stress the idiot thing enough.

Marcus is a lump of clay with no personality. You would think that if you are alive for over 2,000 years, you would develop a pretty strong personality. You would be wrong if you read these books. It's almost like they have no background experiences to draw upon at all. Like they were made up on the spot or something......

His girlfriend is as well-developed as these book characters.

So, we have boring, idiotic people who doing dumb-ass things constantly, mixed in with a psychotic rapist and serial-killer guy who frankly is more interesting than the couple. Although, sheesh, the evilness of the evil guy goes above and beyond what is appropriate for a vampire smut love-story. But, again, it seems like the author really doesn't know what to do with this storyline any more. It's basically a hot mess.

The book I have been waiting for is two books away, so it's decision time. Do I make myself read the next suck-fest to get to the one I want? Especially since this one was a cliff-hanger and didn't resolve at all - which just stuck it to us more because the horrible book didn't even have the decency to end. Or, do I say "screw this" and let the torture end?....
Ugh! I'm keeping on it. I've read a lot of shitty books to get to this point. I'm not stopping now. I can see the end in sight. It's go time!

Yeah, that'll help.

Lynsay Sands should really start on a new series, as she's clearly tired of this one. The book was okay, fluffy and formulaic. Boy meets girl, one or both realize they're lifemates, one or both reject that as a possibility, they start eating and lusting and accept the fact, drama-drama-drama, stupid decisions, hot sex, resolution and they live happily ever after. Luckily, unlike the last book, the heroine in this one wasn't TSTL, she was genuinely uninformed and a little naïve. But the couple never actually get to the hot sex in this book - they come close, but no cigar. It just seemed like Sands is tired of writing these scenes, which is not great for an adult PNR series. It also ended a little abruptly - not a cliff-hanger ending, but a slightly unfinished one. They don't get the bad guy, any of them really, they just make plans for future foiling. And we never find out who set her trailer on fire, and whether it was an attempt on her life or on Marcus'. Seems like a rather large plot hole.

I keep on reading this series because of sentimental reasons, and because I have made it this far, so I'm going to finish the series, dammit! But they are feeling more and more tired. I think she should definitely wrap up the series once she finishes this Leonius arc (and hopefully finishes it quickly). I don't hate the book, but I didn't really enjoy it either.

Please do NOT read this review if you plan to read this book! I plan to bleach my brain by writing this and will not hold back! Plus I expect to set a world record for using the f-bomb so don't bother if you'll be offended.

What the ever loving fuck did I just read?!?!

In the beginning when I started making the connections to who Basha could be. Connecting her to the woman in the earlier book connected to the no-fangers. I was like "this is going to be awesome". And the overarching story was totally fascinating. But it went horribly wrong in several ways.

1) Basha (or Devine - I seriously HATE that name) was the STUPIDEST heroine ever in the history of heroines! I refuse to excuse it because of her horrific childhood. She has had over 2000 years to get a clue. Her idiocy drove me crazy. I wanted her to die. So, so fucking dumb.

2) Marco - did he loose his balls before she cracked his nut? Because he turned into a pussy and was not at all how I remembered hiim. What a waste.

3) So many things are wrong about writing about an 11/12 year old girl being raped and tortured (the heroine was kidnapped, tortured horribly and raped repeatedly for about 4. Months until she got pregnant at the age of 12!!!!) So many things that I cannot write them all down, but let me say that I have zero interest in reading about it in a "romance" novel.

4) Making said rapist her lifemate?! The rapist was her first lifemate (not Marco). You are fucking kidding me, right?! Ms. Sands your lifemate "standards" already kind of sucked (you could have more than one - even at the same time!), but now that a fucking psycho child rapist can be her lifemate, it makes me want to forget every book I ever read in this series. That is totally disgusting. Just makes me want to vomit.

5) 12 year old getting pregnant by rape? I find it hard to believe. But having read this damn series, I know it should have been impossible for an immortal to get pregnant under these conditions! Nehemiah author explained in detail in a prior book that the nanos see pregnancy as a deficiency so the immortal has to be in peek condition and overindulging in blood in order to keep the nanos happy enough to leave the fetus alone. Basha was being tortured and raped and kept week on purpose. There is no way she became pregnant at age 12 if the author's own words are to be believed!

6) Basha is the STUPIDEST heroine ever! Did I mention that already? Well I could mention it about 50 times and still not get across how dumb she is. She is the "mother" of a serial killer and has no clue. So inexcusable. So many "hints" that she did not get but were glaringly obvious. Listening to the lies of her abductor 2000+ years after she got away from him. Zero novel thoughts in her head. Everything she was told by the sick motherfuckers she believed. Your beloved kid almost gets you killed, you say nothing. You are asked to help apprehend him, you hesitate. Total waste of air.

Ok I have run out of steam but I feel I should write a novel about all the things wrong with this book. Aside from the above, I think I am most upset because the story was really, really good and the author ruined it with the characters and some plot devices. I probably would have given this 3 stars because of the story, even with the stupid Devine/Basha. But the child rapist lifemate thing ruined everything. I just cannot give a positve review in any way after reading that.

before i start hiding the review for spoilers i just want to say that Lynsay Sands has been found guilty of one of my pet peeves (yes i do have a lot of pet peeves, thanks for asking) in the romance world. When you start a series and it's a nice and fluffy entertaining read, I have an expectation that the series will continue on like that. So i get really MEGA (i mean throw the book acroos the room MEGA) annoyed when all of a sudden i'm having to read about rape and torture and things that I feel i need a shower and a good bit of brain floss to get out of my head. Because that stuff stays in my head FOR FREAKING EVER! That's why i pick books/series that have prooven themselves to be a nice funny entertaining read... you know like most of the other books in this series!

now that rant is out of the way and i hope it's sufficiant enough warning for someone else who doesn't want to be blindsided i'll head into the spoiler territory...

i started off being interested in this story, and then the story didn't move anywhere followed by the lack of chemistry between Marcus and Devine. i persevered but really needed someone to start laying out their cards on the table. they didn't.

GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

just

GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Seriously, i don't go looking for books about this kind of sick and twisted stuff (there's plenty of them out there if i wanted to) so i really don't like it when it invades a series that has been all about the humourous light and fluffy side of romance before.

I took a little break from the Argeneau series. The stories where all started to feel like the same thing. Nothing new and exciting. Don’t get me wrong. I very much enjoy the series and I own books 1 - 15 and have reread several of my favorites. I just needed a break.

What drew me to the Argeneau series is that the vampires are different from the typical vampires. They are genetically enhanced humans, so they are still human, just they have nanos running inside them that help keep them young and fit. The story on how they became to be is one that is retold in each book, so you can get the full picture on it.

The other thing that pulls me into each book is the humor. I love it. Also the stories are sweet, easy to read, and enjoyable. I also love that some of the previous characters come into the stories and help out the characters. It’s nice to always see previous characters.

~~~~~
In Vampire Most Wanted we have Marcus and Divine. As a couple neither of them stood out. They where ok. The novel didn’t have the constancy or chemistry I’ve previous read and come to enjoy from others in the series.
Divine was painfully naive. She’s been avoiding immortals for a reason. Why is she hiding? We find this out and more. I felt that she really should have talked to an immortal sooner and not hide like she did. She felt to much like a child instead of a 2,700+ year old immortal. Her past is traumatic, but how can she not question things. She knows the difference between right and wrong. She's been helping humans out, so it was just disappointing that our heroine does all this for over 2,700+ years.
Marcus. He does show up in several of the previous novels, but their is nothing all that remarkable about him. He’s a good man who’s spent his life looking after and loving his family and when he’s no longer needing to be a protector, he agrees to help out Lucian.
This story does give us several major surprises and shocking revelations, but the closer on a certain story arc sadly didn’t come and that is one thing that bothered me. We don’t get closer on the bad guys. All of them. It's a little sad they haven’t been found and dealt with. And, also at the end Divine is informed she will help in the search, which it should be that way, but the end was/is abrupt and their is no search, so this goes back to not getting closer on the bad guys.
I will say Vampire Most Wanted was an ok read. It wasn’t outstanding, didn’t have as much humor as I’m used to in the story, and we didn't get that chemistry either, but still it was a delight to read.
Madame Divine earns her living revealing secrets at a carnival while spending the last 2,500+ years hiding her own. Real name Basha Argeneau, Basha is considered a rogue by immortal law and fears what her uncle Lucian will do if he finds her so she remains in hiding but her cover may soon be blown with the arrival of Marcus Notte. Marcus is in the southern California carnival as a favor to Lucian Argeneau to find his long lost niece. While searching for proof that Divine is indeed Basha, Marcus learns that she is his life mate and sets out to convince her they belong together and to finally stop running.
For someone who is 2,700 years old, Basha is painfully naive. By the time she was 12, she was nearly killed by her mother and a few years later was captured, tortured, and gave birth. When freed, she listened to her former capture’s right hand man, who she admits early on to always hating, and believed her family would kill her and her baby so she went into hiding for 2,700 years. I’m not trying to make light of her traumatic experience but how can she not question someone who had a hand in her torture? Yes, she was young so she was easily swayed but she knows right from wrong. She helps mortals out all the time but that doesn’t stop her from turning a blind eye or making excuses for her son that exhibits increasingly disturbing behavior. Did I mention she keeps this up for 2,700 years! I could not wrap my mind around her not asking questions or searching out information about her kind. I can’t remember the last time I was this disappointed in a heroine.
There isn’t anything remarkable about Marcus. He’s a good man who has spent his life looking after and loving his family and when he’s no longer needed as a protector, he agrees to do a favor for Lucian. Though he’s not a series standout, I welcomed any scene away from Basha and applaud Marcus’ patience with her. He’s not the most original character but there’s still enough charm to make me pay attention.
I came very close to not finishing this one but then it becomes obvious Basha’s son is Leonius, the rogue the Rogue Hunters have been after for half the series. I was excited to finally close the door on this story arc but sadly, that’s not the case. The road to what has led Leonius to become a monster is uncovered but that wasn’t enough for me. Instead of getting closer I finished the book frustrated. Something that also bothered me was the feel of the book. If I was to pick up this book without knowing the title or the author, I never would have guessed this was an Argeneau story. I didn’t find any of the fun banter or crazy antics that made me fall in love with the series and the chemistry that holds it all together was missing. This series has become inconsistent and while I can’t say I didn’t like any of the last several installments, because there have been a few I really enjoyed; I think after 20 books I’m done.
This was a very good story. I liked Basha and Marcus and was glad they got together. Because of how they start out it is difficult on both of them but I think things worked out nicely. Sands has done a pretty good job of keeping the series interesting as it goes and this addition to the series is a good continuation of the overall storyline.
Basha was born and raised an Argeneau but didn't have a good life. She suffered the loss of her family early and just when she got them back and was enjoying life, she is kidnapped and lives through a year of hell. Afterwards (due to manipulation by others) she believes that if her family finds her they will kill her and the baby she had due to the rapes she endured. Basha's been running all her life, raising her son the best she could and then (when he was a man and she couldn't stay with him any more) moving on by herself. She kept traveling through the centuries until she finds herself with a carnival working as a fortune teller.
Marcus is a Notte and he's spent most of his life watching out for his family and protecting them from danger. He also helps his family run their large business conglomerate. He's found himself bored with life recently and looking for something more to do so he agrees to help out Lucien when he asks him to track down a lead on his niece that's been missing for years and thought to be rogue. This journey takes his to southern California where he takes a job with a carnival in order to carry out his task.
Basha is known as Madame Divine for her fortune telling act and is quite popular. She reads info about the women from their minds and/or people with them when they show up and then gives them the best advice she can. One night, she encounters an issue with a guy harassing her that had been planning to kill his wife. Basha read the guy's mind when he dropped his wife off for a reading and Basha tells the wife his plans to kill her for her money. The guy gets pissed at Basha for spoiling his plans and tries to get physical but she can handle herself, sending the guy on his way terrified. This is when Marcus shows up. Basha doesn't know who he is but is leery of another immortal showing up at the carnival. She decides to keep her eyes open around him and see what happens because running would just look suspicious and might be an overreaction. There's some interaction with her son and grandsons but it's evident that she's not happy with the company her son keeps, Regardless of these concerns, Basha thinks her son is still following all the rules she taught him growing up (like not harming others). Basha hasn;t been harming anyone but finds out that she's been doing wrong for years as she hasn't fed on bagged blood (due to being lied to by others), thinking it wasn't able to sustain them nutritionally. She also finds out more things that don't add up causing her to have more and more questions.
As Basha is starting to realize things might not be how she thinks they are, she also starts growing closer to Marcus. They help each other out when she has a fire at her RV which helps thing but she still doesn't trust him. The fire ends up bringing Jackie and Vincent in to the picture and they even end up going back to the carnival with Marcus and Basha to help. No one is sure yet if Divine is Basha but they are sure that her and Marcus are lifemates. It also becomes evident that Basha is a good woman and her being a rogue is hard to believe. Marcus is able to convince Basha that they're lifemates (the shared pleasure helping with that) but she's convinced Lucian will kill her on sight and is determined to run. Marcus is trying to get to know Basha better and get her trust while trying to figure out who seems to have been trying to kill Basha. As they try to understand what is going on, Marcus and Basha spend some time together as he tries to encourage her to trust him with the truth. Things don't work out smoothly and there's some major drama, trickery and a hostage situation before all is concluded but Basha and Marcus do end things with a good HEA.
This was a very enjoyable addition to the series. I liked Basha...she's strong and her worse crime ended up being the mother's love for her son. Marcus was strong and did everything he could for Basha, even willing to run with her if necessary. This book didn't have as many funny moments as some other books from the series but I wouldn't call is a dark read...maybe just a little more emotional with all the conflicting emotions and loyalty issues. I can't wait to see how the series storyline (which just got spiked up with this book) works out in the next book. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up. :D
* note - I listened to the audio version of this book. The narrator did a good job.
Oh, how I do love a good Argeneau novel and VAMPIRE MOST WANTED is a good one. If you liked the darker side of the Rogue Hunters - this one is for you!
Known as Divine to all of her carnie friends, Basha Argeneau has been hiding out for so long that she doesn’t know any other way of life. Fearing that her Uncle Lucian wants her head for being rogue, she fears she’s been discovered when one of his spies shows up working at the carnival. After being bashed on the head and told this by Abaddon, the only man who’s been a constant in her life and who she’s always believed to be committed to keeping her son safe, Divine plans to escape the carnival and start again somewhere far away. The last thing she expects is to discover is that the spy might be her life mate.
Marcus Notte is doing Lucian Argeneau a favor. He's searching for a woman who might possibly be Lucian’s niece, Basha. This mysterious Immortal went missing as a young girl and has since been reported as rogue, and possibly the same woman who helped the villainous no-fanger, Leonius, escape the hotel in Toronto where Rogue Hunters shot him with an arrow in the heart. Marcus immediately realizes he can’t read Divine, the woman suspected of being Basha, and when he notices his appetite for food and his lust for her now plague him, he fears the woman he may have found, and could possibly sentence her to death, might just be his life mate.
I loved the Rogue Hunter novels, the darker side of the Argeneau series, not only because I adored the hunters themselves, but because we got to discover the evil side of the Immortals. We met no-fangers, edentates, and learned about Leonius, his sons, and first learned of Basha Argeneau. So when I learned that this would be Basha’s story, I was thrilled with a return to the dangerous side of the Immortals, and I wasn’t disappointed.
VAMPIRE MOST WANTED by Lynsay Sands was everything I expected from an Argeneau novel with the added bonus of it being a story featuring two Immortals discovering their life mates without the mess of having to change a mortal, although, I loved how Lynsay integrated the history of the Immortals into the story through Basha’s lack of knowledge. I was a bit disappointed that Marcus and Basha didn’t share dream sex though – it was always a fun part of the story. But the danger that follows them as they try to learn the truth of Basha’s past and the fact that we are treated to appearances by Vincent and Jackie (A BITE TO REMEMBER), and Tiny and Mirabeau (VAMPIRE VALENTINE, Bitten By Cupid Anthology) as well as Lucian, of course, was well worth the loss – in this one anyway.
VAMPIRE MOST WANTED is fast-paced, action-packed, and as always with a Lynsay Sands novel, filled with sexy vampires, humor, Immortal history, and as with any of the series where a rogue is involved, danger. I do have to say that if you’re up-to-date on the series, the characters you meet will be familiar and the story will make more sense, whereas if you’re new to the series, you might do well to take a look at the Family Trees that Lynsay provides her readers for the Argeneau Family & Notte Family – both of whom are featured in this twentieth novel, and surely one of my favorites now.
I highly recommend VAMPIRE MOST WANTED, an Argeneau novel by Lynsay Sands to anyone who is already a fan of this amazing series. But if you haven’t tried this series, this one might not be the one with which to start. However, if you’re willing to dare it and would like a taste of sexy Immortal vampires, who always give you a sexy ride through a world where nanos keep you young, virile, beautiful, and hunky gorgeous, and where fun is always included when you meet the best characters in paranormal romance, then yes, you’ll want to read VAMPIRE MOST WANTED.
Marcus is sent to find a rogue by Lucian, but its not your average rogue its an ancient member of Lucian's family, Basha Argeneau.
When Marcus discovers someone kind of fitting Basha's description playing a fortune teller at a carnival, he can't believe this woman they call Divine is the rogue. She is kind and everyone loves her at the carnival, she goes out of her way to help people, and he thinks he might be her mate.
Divine may have finally found her mate but with the secrets of her past she can't even think of pulling Marcus into her future.
Will duty out weight love? Will Marcus and Divine have their happily ever after?
You are going to have to check out Vampire Most Wanted and find out.
Vampire Most Wanted is a dark paranormal romance. Divine's past was littered with constant abuse and manipulation. The evil is deplorable and hits closer to home than you might anticipate. The story is fast paced and action filled with romantic tension that can be cut with a knife. I was riveted to the pages from start to finish and loved how Sands drew in past characters.
I received this ARC copy of Vampire Most Wanted from Avon in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication February 18, 2014.
Oh Lynsay Sands. She does make me love vampires all over again. It's been a while since I've read in this series and Vampire Most Wanted reminded me how much I've enjoyed them.
The Gist: Marcus has a job. Check out a carnival fortune teller and see if she's possibly a rogue vampire. He just has to make sure it's the right vampire he's hunting and to do so? Well, he joins the carnival.
Basha and Marcus were fun characters. They're both good vampires. They take care of the people around them. Keeping them safe, lending a hand, doing whatever is needed.
They were good together. They both needed each other's personalities. To bring a little fun out, to make them feel again. And oh man. The heat. It's hilarious. Yeah, the vampire quirk? Well, when they find their mate and, erm, boink...they pass out. Doesn't matter if they're driving, having a go against a trailer, in the shower. Orgasm and they're down for the count. It's such a hoot.
I will say I was surprised by how dark this one turned. Past books that I can remember were all fairly light and this one had lots of light fun elements--I mean, come on, they're living with carnies!-- but man the second half got dark. Basha had such a heartbreaking life and made me ache for her as secrets were revealed.
Overall, a good time was had. Sands has such an entertainingly unique paranormal series with vampires you can't help but fall for.
*note-- this is a real long series (like 29 books) but you're fine jumping around. I've done that with no issues so far
A great addition to the Argeneau collection of books! I loved the new characters Divine (Basha) and Marcus. Divine is a mature, independent woman who has survived over two millennia with many tragedies and challenges in her past, yet she continues to be a caring person who dedicates her life to the service of others. I found her to be a very deep and complex character, yet very relatable to women today. She's someone I would love to have as a friend. She's a classic outsider who has good cause to be wary of strangers. Marcus is an interesting character as well - warrior, leader, business executive, and carnival greenhorn. His strength and sensitivity to Divine's hesitation shows him to be a mature partner for her, willing to work on their relationship and to fight for it. The setting of this book is really interesting. They meet at a classic carnival, where Divine works. Through this story, Lynsay Sands draws a portrait of a disappearing way of life, also creating some likeable supporting characters who she presents in a straightforward way - no judgment, no criticism of their gruelling way of life. The intimate level of details regarding the "carnie" lifestyle lends credibility to the overall tale, and it made for a very realistic setting in which the story unfolds. It was great to see some familiar characters from previous Argeneau books return to this story to help advance the situation with Divine and Marcus. I found myself racing through the pages to see what happened next. Very easy to read and entertaining! The story flows swiftly through the capable storytelling of this author.
Plot: She has Stockholm Syndrome...for over thousands of years, that's about all you need to know.
I have a problem with this! I guess being thousands of years old, almost immortal, and super strong still doesn't guarantee you'll have figured out how to do basic research, or how to get out of an abusive relationship, or how to tell lies from the truth.
Is that depressing, or what?!?
From the beginning, I really enjoyed this series, but now I have to turn my brain off because the internal illogic just kills me! It gets worse and worse as the series progresses, be warned.
I really liked this one a lot although I thought the book ended too fast and didn’t tie up all the loose ends. What’s up with that I wonder? I liked the characters, the carnival setting and the suspense part. Of course, I loved the romance part as well. Good read as usual with this series!
Sigh. I enjoyed reading this for the most part, but there was also a lot wrong with it. I was honestly looking forward to reading Basha's and seeing how she would go from villain to heroine, so that leaves me feeling extra disappointed.
First, the good. I wasn't disappointed in Basha's shift from villain to heroine. Basha's story was really interesting, especially learning that she was never a villain at all, and I enjoyed getting to see more from Marcus. I also enjoyed their chemistry. The overall story was interesting and added a lot to the story that has woven its way through the series.
Now, the bad. First of all, this was culturally insensitive, the whole vibe of a white blonde blue-eyed vampire lady going through the centuries by assimilating into groups of Romani, Indigenous people, etc, is just very weird, especially with her in the outfit all the time. The gay villain is tiresome as well. And not related to the problematic nature, but it was also too short to wrap everything up adequately. Honestly it also had more violence than sex, and that was also very weird and poorly balanced. If it had been like 40 pages longer I feel like there could have been more steam and more emotional payoff at the end. Aside from the story desperately needing a sensitivity reader and thorough edit.
Honestly, this is definitely my least favourite Argeneau book so far and I'm really bummed because I was looking forward to this and it could have been great. I'm usually willing to overlook some of the flaws in the series because I enjoy them so much, but this was just not enough.
One of the things I hate about writing reviews for books is that I feel obligated to be totally, one hundred percent honest about how I felt. That can be really difficult sometimes, especially when I’m about to say something negative about an author I’ve loved so much in the past. I like Lynsay Sands. I love…or should say loved the Argeneau series, but there comes a time when it’s time to end a series, and I think that time passed about two novels back for this series. People thought Jerry Seinfeld was crazy to end his TV show when it was one of the top rated on television. I think he had the right idea. Finish on top rather than the bottom.
To me, this book was boring. It was lacking the usual lightheartedness her other books possess. I never laughed once reading this, and that is something I’ve come to expect from her. In fact, the whole light feel was gone and replaced with a serious novel with detailed descriptions of torture and abuse. I wasn’t even sure I was reading an Argeneau novel. I don’t mind dark novels, but I just didn’t expect that at all.
I also didn’t feel any chemistry between the characters. The only dialogue they had felt like I was sitting in a classroom listening to a history lecture. It’s sad too, because I thought the premise of this story was good. It had the potential to be really good, but fell flat. I wonder if I’m just bored with this series. It’s hard to let go, though.
I might consider finishing thsi one later...much later...a few years later.
I've read half the book. That was good. We get to see Marcus whom we already met and I already liked him so it was all good. Then we have the carnival and I always loved them, especially reading about them. And Basha was sweet enough in the beginning. There were even progressing well in their relationship.
Then the ...snap ...came.
And pardon me, but I HATE STUPID people. I hate them in reality as well so don't take it the bad way. I am judgemental when it comes to stupidity. And Basha ...oh dear, she won the stupid medal of the milennia.
So I might reconsider finishing the book when I calm down. First I need to understand how can somedbody be so stupid and continue to be over 2 thousand years? For God's sake, that's a long time.
Marcus became quite a mindless idiott as well but that's normal with life mates.
There might have been something salvageable but the ending kind of topped the iceberg and downhill it went.
Nothing was solved, nothing was answered. Maybe the author was delirious while writing this book because it was damn far away from her other books....
Future reference for my future self: I've read half and skipped the rest (consider re-reading it at your own peril).
As like all the rest of the series, Vampire Most Wanted has it all. I laughed, cried and just plain felt bad for Basha. I think you'll enjoy reading about her journey, even the bad times made her what she is today. Marcus does his best to protect her even when he has to protect her against herself. You won't want to miss this latest addition to the Argeneau series.
I liked Basha and Marcus and was glad they got together. Because of how they start out it is difficult on both of them but I think things worked out nicely. Sands has done a pretty good job of keeping the series interesting as it goes and this addition to the series is a good continuation of the overall storyline. I laughed, cried and just plain felt bad for Basha. I think you'll enjoy reading about her journey, even the bad times made her what she is today. Marcus does his best to protect her even when he has to protect her against herself. Marcus and Divine, or Basha Argeneau if one must get technical, find themselves in some sticky situations one after the other and yet by the end do finally get their HEA. The road to doing so however is full of obstacles on both sides as they each have issues from their past standing in the way. Basha Argeneau is over 2000 years old. She has changed her name and lived different lives to avoid facing her family. Currently, she is Madam Divine, a fortune teller with a carnival. She's stuck to this persona for several years now and used her mind reading abilities to help people. If you've followed the series you've caught a brief glimpse of Basha in a previous installment. She’s been trying to hide for years from the Argeneau family, afraid of the power they wield. Marcus is assisting in location a possible rogue vampire and is trying to determine what Basha could possibly know.
This was a very good story. As like all the rest of the series, Vampire Most Wanted has it all. This is a more complicated match-up than is usual in the ongoing life-mate relationships that make up the gist of each book. One final gigantic secret revealed near the last of the book however changes things in the pairs favor, at the same time causing future complications to come. This was a strange addition to the Argeneau roundup. Vampire Most Wanted was a bit dark. It started off normal enough, with the exception of a new and exciting backdrop of a carnival, but towards the end of the book you get a glimpse at some very dark material. Yes the love of the fangs once again pulls me back to the Argeneau series. This particular story in the series is a bit darker than most. But it still includes those brilliant touches of laughter and levity that make it so good. For those in the know, Lynsay Sands has one of the best Vampire/Paranormal series out there. Because this is such a long standing series and there are so many interwoven characters, I wouldn’t actually recommend starting with this book. This was not my favorite nor my least favorite Argeneau story...ok...I just erased my whole review...because it was becoming a "rant"...and I do not rant!!! This story was at times both disappointing and entertaining...but none the less...this will not be the last book I read in this series...because anyone that is reading this series will tell you...we just can help ourselves...we have to read the next one...then the next one...you get the picture! haha I am hoping for more humor and better "chemistry" between the next two MCs...
For an Argeneau novel this one isn’t actually very smutty.
I listened to book 21 a long time ago so at that point I met basha and Markus.
I don’t read these in order as they are all concerned stand alones. Side characters come up in the novels and then I hunt for their story.
I liked hearing more about bashas back story what a horrible life. All because of propaganda. Bless her.
Hea
Smut 1 out of 5 there’s little to none in this book and I don’t actually think they have sex.
Worth the listen.
Dropping this series. I've hated #21 a lot, and didn't really enjoy the other installments either. In the beginning, they were light and easy reads - not all that good, but good procrastination-material. But for some reason, she always disregards the things I personally enjoy and continues with the things I don't. In the beginning, this series worked as crack, but it doesn't anymore for me at all.
Vampire Most Wanted by Lynsay Sands is a February 18 ,2014 Avon publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
Basha Argeneau is over 2000 years old. She has changed her name and lived different lives to avoid facing her family. Currently, she is Madam Divine, a fortune teller with a carnival. She's stuck to this persona for several years now and used her mind reading abilities to help people.
When it comes to Lucien's attention that a blonde woman resembling Basha was seen at a carnival, he sends Marcus to bring her back to him. Once Marcus meets the beautiful blonde Madame Divine, he realizes he has his hands full and he is in for the fight of his life. Why? Well, there could be a bit of a hitch in his plans because Divine appears to be his life mate, and to him that just doesn't seem possible. How can that be? But, all the signs are there and neither party is too happy about it.
As we get to know Divine and Marcus, we learn Divine has been through a great deal in her life and it's very complicated. She has a son and grandchildren and they seems to be trying to trip her up . Nothing makes any sense. All Divine knows is that she must prevent herself from being turned over to Lucien at all cost.
This is the the 20th Argeneau novel by Lynsay Sands. While there are some funny moments and lines, this novel has a more serious tone. The depiction of carnival life, which is a hard life, but also is like a family for many, makes it easy for Divine to relax in this environment and she genuinely enjoys helping people. Basha literally become Divine and erases her past from her mind. She knows right away that Marcus is not her friend, but he doesn't know that she knows. So, a mental game begins, but soon there are deadly occurances that has Marcus unsure what to think or feel. Along the way Divine/Basha discovers that she has been lied to and manipulated for a very long time, as a result , she has lived in shame these many years.
I enjoyed the chemistry between Basha and Marcus. Their relationship is a tricky one, and they have a few issues to resolve, but you know they are a true love match. The story is deeply layered leaving you wondering who to trust. There are some jolting twist in the plot and once I was over half way into the book, I just had to finish it. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. While the romance was steamy and this is certainly a paranormal romance, there were shades of Urban Fantasy mixed in there as well, I thought.
The only issue I had was that I felt some things weren't really explained all the way. Don't misunderstand, the story is all wrapped up at then end, but there are loose threads here and there. I'm wondering if this story is going to continue on in the next book. I hope it does, but because I want a bit more closure.
This was an engrossing story and of course fans of series will love it! Even if you haven't read all the books in the series or have never tried them, you will be able to pick this one up and read it as a stand alone. I recommend this book to lovers of vampire romance, paranormal romance, and maybe even those that like romantic suspense and Urban Fantasy too.
Overall a solid A.
A few weeks ago I read a blog post that questioned if the market for vampire romance was dwindling. Obviously the author of that that article is not reading Lynsay Sands, Argeneau Series. I fall in love with this series a little more after finishing each new book, and there are twenty in total, so that is a lot of love.
Vampire Most Wanted is a wonderful new addition to this series. The latest couple. Divine (Basha) and Marcus are definitely very high on my list of favorite Argeneau couples. Marcus takes care of people, that is just what he does, and Basha is no rogue, no matter what rules she "thinks" she may have broken. When these two come together sparks fly and things catch on fire (literally). This book is also packed with intense action and the reappearance of characters that fans of the "darker" Argeneau characters will enjoy. Basha gives the term "ball-buster" a new meaning, and gave me a lot of laughs (inside joke-you must read this book to get it). Move over Immortal Ever After, I still love you, but Vampire Most Wanted just snuck ahead of you on my favorites shelf.
For those of you not familiar with the Argeneau series, it can be read in order or as stand-alone books. Other fans may disagree with me on this, but I started this series out of order, fell in love with it and in the span of about three months read all the books currently published! Lynsay Sands writes a different sort of vampire romance. Her romances are light hearted, there is humor, love, lust and good food. Argeneau immortals have life mates, and when they find their life mate their lives change, they begin to eat/crave real food in addition to the necessary blood, their combined passion is explosive, and there is nothing they won't do for their mate.
If you ARE reading this series, be sure to grab this book ASAP! You are going to love it. If you AREN'T reading this series, please consider giving it a try. I have this book 5 STARS and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
This is the first book I've made it through for this series.
Pros:
The lead male wasn't one of those "mine" alpha-meatheads.
The lead female wasn't the "kickass" stereotypes.
The main plot was actually interesting.
The deviation from the life-mate trope in that there can be more than one.
The idea that a life-mate could be of the same sex.
Cons:
The idea of Atlantis created nanotechnology being responsible for vampires was beyond belief. I felt like I needed to put on a tin foil hat to continue reading the story once that tidbit came out. Why can't vampires just be vampires? It worked for Dracula.
I actually have grown to hate the life-mate trope. It's not about love. It's about a chemical reaction creating lust which is called love.
The idea that sex between life-mates causes blackouts was just hysterical.
And what was with all the food description. It was annoying by the third time. By time they ordered pizza I was skimming ahead. We get it. They don't eat for a millennium and food is really good after all that time. You don't have to repeatedly beat your readers over the head with that fact.
I gave the book 2 stars because mostly it was distaste for the various tropes that caused me to dislike the book. Also, vampires should just be vampires, not aliens, alternate humans, alternate species, or nano-enhanced humans.
Warning! This is not a bedtime read. I grabbed this book thinking I’ll read for a little bit before I go to sleep. Yeah Right! Next thing I knew it was light outside. Was it worth the loss of a nights sleep? Most definitely!
Sands’ vampires/immortals, (depending on which immortal you are speaking to) are not your average vampire. They’re human with a little something extra in their blood.
Fast-paced, this book flows easily, keeping you thoroughly engrossed. Great characters, sizzling chemistry, and of course great mate sex! (Want to know what great mate sex is. Read the book.). Sands’ keeps you wondering and guessing through-out the book: Who is Madame Devine? Is she Basha Argeneau? Why did she do the things they she did? How can things workout for her and Marcus in the long run.
Although this is a series, this book can stand alone, but I was happy to have the more in depth background and history from reading the previous books.
5 Stars – I would recommend this to my friends. I will most definitely buy her more of her books and I will reread this book (and the rest of the series) in the future.
Awesome book!
Los protagonistas son Basha y Marcus, ambos tienen más de 2500 años.
Basha lleva una doble vida, por un lado es una vidente llamada Divine que trata de ayudar a los mortales, y por el otro es la madre de Leónidas segundo, el maldito sin colmillos que transformó a Dani y Stephanie contra su voluntad, y a abusado y torturado a cientos de mujeres y niños.
Basha fue secuestrada cuando tenía 10 años por Leónidas primero, lo que sufrió, la hizo escapar avergonzada de su familia por miles de años.
Marcus, es increíblemente cuidadoso y amoroso con Basha, fue enviado por Lucian para encontrar a su sobrina, y trata por todos los medios de que confíe en él, tendria un largo camino para lograrlo, pero los nanos, lo ayudan a convertirlos en compañeros de vida.
Me gustó mucho, aunque al principio quería golpear a Basha por ser tan idiota y confiar en el maldito de Abbadon, después llegas a entender el porqué lo hace.
Loved it!
Once again, another fantastic story. Love the tying of the loose ends from previous books, too. I'm sad that it's ended. But on to the next!
