Newhaven of the future – ironically enough, anything but a safe haven for its inhabitants. The government has run out of money but hospitals and schools are better than ever – that’s to say for those living in one of the fenced-off areas. Still, postcodes have less meaning for the new influenza which is spreading, and suddenly everyone is facing the same Where has the virus come from? Are you safe if you buy the pharmaceutical companys’ newly designed mouth guard? And who can afford to get vaccinated?

Liv is 18 years old, an angel living among humans. She knows why people are getting sick and she’s tired of being a passive bystander. In contrast, her childhood friend Raphael has seen far too much of Newhaven and not even the sunglasses he always wears can shut out its harsh climate. Perhaps it would be simpler to be one of them – one of the fallen angels? Marcel knows what it feels like to be like nothing. Killing someone causes him as little pain as the cuts he carves into his shoulders afterwards. It’s a simple the world isn’t grey, it’s black or white, and if he called the shots it would only be black.

Life is left hanging in the balance for these three when the hunt for medicines leads to a raid on the hostel where Liv works. The next day, she has disappeared without a trace and Raphael faces a dilemma. Should he focus on his mission or drop everything to find Liv? Marcel has other concerns. His problem isn’t to do with finding someone, it’s to do with getting rid of someone, namely the girl who’s lying in one of his rooms and refusing to die.

Starting off, I did receive a copy from the author in exchange for a non-biased review and I'm extremely thankful for it.

Fallen Times is a novel which takes place in the distopian future involving two star crossed lovers. The fallen angels have made it their goal to wreak havoc on the world while it's the guardian angels who go around, trying their best to fix these issues. In the middle of all this we have our three main characters, yes I did say three, Marcel, Liv, and Raphael. Marcel is a fallen angel who kills like it's nothing, but once it comes to our other protagonist, Liv, he can't seem to grasp exactly what his feelings are. Liv and Raphael are both guardian angels who have known each other from birth who come to Newhaven to help cure the humans of the virus that the fallen angels are spreading. After several encounters, Marcel and Liv get to know each other better and as they wrestle with their emotions, they also have to deal with those around them and their separate fates.

This story is told in the 3rd POV, with each chapter rotating between Liv, Raphael, and Marcel. While that's unique and allows the readers to understand events from each character's point of view, it's also hard to follow along. At the beginning of the novel, it caused there to be a large influx of characters introduced all at once but after reading a few more chapters, we're clear as to who is who. The main characters themselves were easy to understand and feel sympathy for but it was the supporting characters that confused me. Several had their backgrounds well supported but I didn't realize that Garin was playing for the other team until the very end of the novel after his interest in Raphael. I had also originally thought that Liv and Raphael were going to have something going on since he was the other main character but the hospital scene happened and that left me thoroughly confused.

Honestly, I loved Liv's strong personality and Marcel's bad boy characteristics. I was shipping for them throughout the novel but when it came time for them to get together... they just did? It was rushed and although they both had liked each other, whether they realized it or not, they just jumped into that relationship very quickly and I wasn't even sure when or how they did.

The novel as a whole had a great concept, and an idea that I hadn't read before. However, I did feel that it was rushed (perhaps because of the jumping perspectives?) and the ending was unsatisfying. The author mentioned Liv changing somehow and I would have liked it if that were elaborated. Lastly, there were a few gramatical errors throughout the novel.

I got a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Fallen times is about the guardian angels, saving the humans from the influenza virus, and the fallen angels, spreading the virus to eliminate the humans. Liv, a guardian angel assigned to look out for the humans in Newhaven, was so tired of just helping out and wanted to act in order to stop the spread but their laws are holding her back. Marcel, a fallen angel who was made to kill, met Liv that refused to die and eventually, he doesn’t want to die. After crossing each other’s path, their life was starting to change that affects their own sides.

This book was told in a third-person POV so we have a peek at every one’s mind. My favourite character was Liv. She was a badass guardian angel who doesn’t want to stay behind and just mourn after every loss they had because of the fallen angels taking over Newhaven. She was ready to sacrifice herself to put a stop to the chaos.

It has some confusing parts that I just skipped out and just go on reading hoping to have a clue to what that was about. And before I wrote this review, I read that this was a translated version so maybe that was the reason.

Overall, it was a great read. A forbidden love angel style. A few heart breaking scenes till the end.

I received an ARC copy from the author (Thank you!)

When I first started this book, I was a little confused. So many characters were introduced immediately. It was overwhelming. But after awhile, I got a little bit of an understanding.
Liv and Marcel were beautiful characters. I loved the dynamics of their relationship. They seemed to know exactly how to handle each other, and didn't whine or cry about life. Liv was a strong lead character, making her my favorite of this story.

I was a little confused with Raphael. Was he in love with Liv or did he play for the other team? He spent the entire novel searching for Liv, but the hospital scene threw me off.

The only other issue I had were the many grammatical errors. Those drive me crazy.

Overall I would give Fallen Times 2.5 to 3 stars. (Mainly because I fell in love with Liv and Marcel.)

Given by author in exchange for a honest review....

I enjoyed the story line with it being placed in the future with angels and guardians, but I had a hard time understanding at times. I think it may have to do with it being translated. Once I got used to the story dialect, I got into it a bit more.

One thing I loved is the fact it was written in more than one perspective so I was able to see all sides of the story. I felt for Raphael every time I read his version, he was my favorite.

Overall I do think it is a well written story with a pretty good but different story line and I am looking forward to reading book 2.

A strong girl and a bad boy is brought together in a future dystopian world. Its hate at first sight, but can hate turn into to warmer feelings, even love? With charismatic characters, engaging story and a beautiful language Fallen Times is just the right mix of paranormal and romance that I love. Looking forward to the next book about Liv and Marcel!
