Book 4 in the Scream Series Excitement for the future is all Ember sees as they drive away from Myers’ School for the Unwanted in the hands of law enforcement. But not everyone feels the same. In the seats behind her, Coal whispers in the shadows, ready to lash out at the girl that destroyed their lives. Brought to a hospital till the police can find them all homes, Scream rides the wave of possibilities between love interests, friendships, and promises of a better tomorrow. But trauma doesn’t fade so quickly and the future isn’t always guaranteed, especially when revenge is sweeter. Trigger: Violence, death, human trafficking, language
I am a thirty-something mother of 3, with a drive to write. I am a strong advocate to stop human trafficking. Two percent of my earnings from the Scream Series will be donated to the human trafficking front.
Just to be fair to the author, I read this book without reading books 2 and 3. So I am fully aware that I was missing a little information. I didn't like the series enough to pay for books 2 and 3, but book 4 was on KU so I just skipped ahead to that one. I didn't feel lost at all! Rivera caught me up quickly.
Unfortunately, I had trouble leaning into the story here because of the massive editing errors. I said it my review of My Name is Scream and I will say it again here - I think this is a fabulous idea. The plot is honestly riveting. I had to know what happened next... but this story is done a disservice through the novel's editing. If Rivera ever goes back and does a rewrite/hires an editor I will be the FIRST to reread these books and change my review. There were some inconsistencies (which typically can't be helped in a series, especially one without a large team of people helping), a lot of grammar errors and typos, and so many tense disagreements. A few of the inconsistences might have been intentional, like Ember going back and forth between using a character's real name and "school" name.
I really wish the story was on a bit of a shorter timeline. I think all the events in the series so far take place in less than two weeks? Scream hadn't been at the school long by the time we meet her, and this book takes place just a few weeks after that. I think a lot more could have been done in the way of character development if we had a little more time with her.
Other that those minor crituques, I really can't say enough about the plot and Rivera's dedication to writing a realistic, traumatized teenager. Ember thinks like a teenager, talks like a teenager, and makes the kind of choices a teenager would make. She's rash and frustrating and unreliable and I love her. As you read, you have no clue who you can trust and the relationships and trauma bonds these kids have developed are so much like what kids in their situation might do in real life.
I'm excited to read the last book if it comes to KU!
Another intense edition to the scream series. I had no idea what would happen after finishing the the last book. I am amazed at how well the author can create a story that makes the reader feel all the trauma, fear, anxiety and smidges of hope. This series is not for the faint of heart but if you can handle it, it is an intense experience and one I eagerly come back to with each new book. If you like intense dystopian stories this is the series for you. Skillfully written.
Scream is one of the best series that I’ve have read !!! Description what you think you know is wrong the ones whom you put FAITH in ha and the ones you believe in hurt you and most adults suck! If it does not make since you should take the Journey it is worth the the ride That we should never take from strangers 😉
Scream is one of the best series that I’ve have read! What you think you know is wrong! I have binged the first 4 books, which only took a week! Amazing story, has grabbed my attention from the very beginning. Now I must wait a week to read the last book! Can't wait I'm so inpatient.
