Review on my blog (to be posted 1/31): http://christianbookshelfreviews.blog...

4.5 stars

I was pleasantly surprised when I read Bleeding Heart (book two in this series and Amber Stokes' debut novel) last year, and I was anticipating this prequel to that story! Forget Me Not was another great read! The pages flew by as I was reading and the story kept me guessing - I really had no idea how things would turn out for Elizabeth and David.

Speaking of David...I loved his character and how repentant he became when he made a certain mistake. I also loved that Myghal was in this book. He was a favorite character of mine from Bleeding Heart, so it was interesting getting this glimpse of his life before that book. I didn't like Joe all that much, for reasons I'll refrain from saying, as they might be spoiler-ish.

There was a little bit of mystery to Forget Me Not, which I really enjoyed. The characters were very endearing and I felt many emotions while reading this book.

Overall, Forget Me Not was a very enjoyable book to read! I recommend it if you enjoy short historical/western novels with some romance. I'm anticipating Amber's next book, Morning Glory, which is set to release summer 2014.

(4.8 Because of an acute love triangle.) I love this and it's super cute and a shorter story which makes it quicker to read.

14+ for 'Working girls,' but nothing vulgar/description. One scene with them, but is almost immediately interrupted.

Also, Myghal. He's my fave. #SorryNotSorry

As with any novel set in a historical time period, I always enjoy the story that can take me back. I think a select few authors are born with the talent to write and weave a story that can make you feel as if you've lived it. Amber Stokes is one of those writers.

As in her debut novel, Bleeding Heart, the character's journeys tug at the heart strings. Akin to a Mary Connealy novel, there's action galore (I dare you to read the first chapter without holding your breath!) and a sweet romance reminiscent of a Janette Oke classic. At times I'll admit to being a little frustrated with Elizabeth's mood swings, but by the last page I felt that she had matured and grew as a character. David seemed a lot older than his age, but then again he was hiding some pretty big secrets. This book has an interesting love triangle too. I wasn't expecting it, but it definitely added another dimension to the romance! Familiar characters and a great Wild West setting fairly begged me not to put down this story -- and I didn't!

Forget Me Not will delight readers who enjoyed Bleeding Heart and more than likely will garner the author some new fans. As self-published books go, this is one of the best that I've read. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series!

~ My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars ~

A few months ago, I had the wonderful pleasure of reading Bleeding Heart. Forget Me Notwas an even greater pleasure to read! I knew some of the backstory concerning Forget Me Not, and knew that it was a story that had been with Amber even longer. It's also the prequel to Bleeding Heart. I don't always think a prequel is better read first, but in this case I DO think it would be better. There are certain events in Bleeding Heart that I think will have an even greater impact knowing the backstory in Forget Me Not.

While the main characters in this story are different than Bleeding Heart, we do get to see most of them make at least a small appearance in Forget Me Not. Let me make a brief mention here about the short story, Bellflower. It's a sweet re-telling of Beauty and the Beast involving two characters from Forget Me Not and one from Bleeding Heart. It is a prequel to Forget Me Not, but I liked reading it afterward.

The writing in this book just blew me away! The beautiful blending of words and lovely descriptions had me rereading just to see them once again. While still holding on to a slightly darker tone than most Christian fiction, Forget Me Not was a much more innocent and sweeter story.

I'm constantly amazed at the talent Amber continues to portray, and I become prouder and prouder of her as her talent grows even stronger. I can't wait to read the third installment of this series, Morning Glory.

*I was provided a review copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

From the very beginning I found myself turning page after page! I literally hated to leave the story that Amber has created! Each time I picked it up, because sadly this reader cannot read 24/7, I would once again be caught up in the setting and the characters lives.

Amber truly has a gift for drawing the reader into her story and making it come alive amongst the pages. I loved David and Elizabeth’s story. If you have read Amber’s first published novel Bleeding Heart you will remember who they are. From that novel I wasn’t a fan of either character(David or Elizabeth), but now reading their story they were definitely destined to be together!

I found Forget Me Not to be a tad bit lighter than Bleeding Heart which doesn’t translate into less drama or heartbreak, but was more of an introduction into some of the characters that we have already met in Bleeding Heart. David and Elizabeth are two hurting souls whose lives have been intertwined for many years and who are destined to be together for many more. Forget Me Not is the definite must-read prequel to Bleeding Heart. I have to also say that I am a definite fan of Amber’s writing and look forward to more books in her Heart’s Spring series.

Published in 2014, this is actually the first novel in The Heart’s Spring series, falling first in the timeline to its published predecessor Bleeding Heart. Comprised of three novels and a collection of novellas, Forget Me Not is another journey saga, both literal and fugitively.

STORY: It tells the story of the young Elizabeth Lawson whose young life shatters when she loses her parents. Now as a young 18-year-old, she learns that she has a brother she’s never met. Seeking something she doesn’t know, she leaves the safety of her adoptive mother’s home. When she falls into trouble, she’s rescued by a young man named David. Not immune to feeling lost, David instantly feels a familiar tug to the young woman and on a whim offers to escort her to Nevada never expecting to feel so much for this girl.

Forget Me Not, by Amber Stokes | Book Review

Less than a year after her first release, Amber shares this story centering on the woman who broke the heart of a prominent figure in Bleeding Heart. The theme of this novel is feeling a part of a “place,” like you belong to someone or somewhere. In this regard, all of us will be able to relate to David and his need to remember. Between David’s search, and Elizabeth’s indecision (or innocence), the story is heavy on things long forgotten as its running theme.

As always, Amber executes her reflective topics beautifully. I will confess that on a minor note, the swiftness with which Elizabeth trusts – and travels miles on end – David doesn’t work as completely realistic though I understand this is more personal preference than an author fault. One thing I don’t think any reader can dispute is that these stories are dear to Amber’s heart. Many of us know her from our blog community and most if not all of us have been excited to be a small part of this publishing journey with her.

I started this novel late one evening and breeze through a decent portion of it, and in a mere twenty-four hours later, I was wrapping it up. Amber’s charming and beautifully simple way of telling this story (which is a compliment of the highest regard) is difficult to put down because her characters read well as do the elements of surprise. Where Bleeding Heart is gutsy and full of grace, its prequel is sobering. She also teases us with Jacob’s origins (which readers can now read about in Bellflower). I’d advise anyone who hasn’t read Bleeding Heart to read this first. Not because they cannot be read separately but one character figures importantly in the sequel title and for anyone who isn’t fond of working backwards in series, you’ll get a major spoiler in Bleeding Heart that hasn’t yet come to pass in Forget Me Not.

If you’re a fan of Janette Oke or western inspirational fiction in general (or like the When Calls the Heart TV show), then do be sure to pick up Forget Me Not by Stokes. It’s a picturesque kind of story that will charm any of its genre fans merely by being true to exactly what it is; a tender sage of love and never forgetting the sway of memories. A powerful reminder to the reader to never take precious moments for granted.

Sincere thanks to the author, Amber Stokes for providing a complimentary ARC e- copy of this book for reviewing purposes.

Forget Me Not is an achingly beautiful illustration of how all good things come about in God’s timing. It is impossible for us to see the big picture as God sees it. Our vision is severely limited and grossly distorted compared to his eternal and crystal clear vision. We need to let go of our debilitating and unfounded fears and allow Him to work in, through, and for us. Only then will we know true peace and pure joy.

David is a man haunted by his past. He finds strength and contentment in his solitude. However, his world is about to be turned on its ear, and he finds himself unsure if he can or even wants to return to his previous life. Elizabeth discovers a painful secret that drives her from the only home she has ever known in pursuit of the truth. She quickly finds herself indebted to David for both saving her life and stealing her heart, and they both discover that neither of their lives will ever be the same again.

In this prequel to Bleeding Hearts, we catch a glimpse of the back story of some of the endearing characters that I have come to love and cherish. We learn a little of what happened to them before we were introduced to them, and we see some of the heartache and the beauty that molded them into the amazing characters that they are. With the trials and triumphs in our lives come the sometimes harsh and sometimes comforting changes that transform us into the people that were born to be. They mold us into the creation that brightens and fills our Creator’s heart and our world with light and love. While we are not defined by those character building events, God takes those moments and uses them to refine and purify our hearts making us more of a reflection of Him.

This story really challenged my heart as I watched a deeply touching and infinitely sweet love blossom between Elizabeth and David only to see it become marred and broken by their poor choices. I kept hoping that despite their heartache, they would be drawn back together by the fierce love that neither of them could completely shake. However, they each had their own road to follow, and in the end everything that had happened only served to be a catalyst that would solidify their hearts and minds into what His plan had always been for them from the very beginning.

Amber Stokes continues to spread her literary wings with this stunning introduction to what is quickly becoming a brilliant and remarkable story of how God transports us into a destiny so rich and a future so lavish that our minds and hearts are powerless to comprehend and we can only ever offer our thanks and love in the hope that it will ever be enough to show our gratitude. I am eagerly looking forward to her next book in this series. I have come to love and enjoy each and every character, and I can’t wait to see what is in store for them. Each story in this series is sure to touch your heart in a very unique and lasting way. I wouldn’t miss any of them if I were you.

Amber's setting is quite believable and well-researched. I'm not the hugest fan of western fiction but she drew me into Virginia City and kept me there with vivid descriptions. When I read her historical note at the back of the book and found she had actually been to her location, that explained much. Amber did a fabulous job portraying a precarious, immoral town that masquerades as something fabulous. I liked the men of the book and the fact that David in particular is such a gentleman. Even though he had me roiling mad at moments, there was still a humility about him I find precious. Plus, I fall hard for brown eyes. Besides David, I appreciated Joe and got rather fond of Myghal, the Cornish miner. In subsequent books we apparently get more time with both of them so that's something exciting to look forward to!

Elizabeth is a peppy heroine that could easily have gotten sidelined with the reams of other high-spirited western fiction heroines except for the fact that she didn't. What I mean by this is that Amber Stokes managed to portray someone deeper than many characters of whom I've read. Yeah, she's headstrong and annoying in moments, but I found myself attributing this to the fact that Elizabeth truly is young and inexperienced...there is room and time for her to grow and for now her sweetness manages to win you past her flaws.

What I Didn't Enjoy About This Book:

I am admittedly not the biggest fan of love triangles and found myself frustrated for one character while at the same time dreamy-happy for the others. This is unavoidable in a love triangle and is thus only a quirk of my own personality. Amber played the triangle delicately and with a polished hand. Since this is a series, everything is not entirely resolved at the end and I can live with that, knowing the story goes on. :)
The attraction begins at first sight in Forget Me Not and while this isn't my favorite manner of two people falling in love, it is undoubtedly honest (as I know from experience). I am, perhaps, idealistic and prefer people not taking into account physical appearance, but I think that's because I don't expect to win anyone myself by my ravishing beauty so I get a slight panicky feeling. ;)

All in All:

Forget-Me-Not is a beautiful story that takes delicate topics and weaves them into a web of forgiveness, mercy, and transformation. If you enjoy historical romance, you will definitely want to take a look at this brand new, precious story from Amber Stokes!

Forget Me Not is a tender but intense story. It’s so easy to flow with the plot on a general level, but at the same time, get invested in each character and their personal stories.

From David’s quiet nature and mature mind, to Elizabeth’s strong will and naivety, and sometimes indecisiveness, the story is not so simple afterwards, as it leads to uncovering of secrets, heartbreaks and new found love.

I love how the Forget Me Not flower was woven into an essential part of the plot, a part that describes David’s story and his struggles. While the book is not about the flower itself, the story wouldn’t be complete without these beauties! I applaud Amber’s craft in weaving together the plot with the flower, giving the “yellow sun” and “sky-blue petals” a whole new and wonderful meaning.

As always, my favorite character was Myghal. I’m not surprised at all that this guy’s a hit! His easy-going nature was a source of relief in the tense and solemn moments, and it was a pleasant experience discovering his origin in this story.

Another character that caught my attention was Annabelle. Her quiet and friendly nature drew me to her. Despite harboring the shame of the past, and the pain from the present, she remained a sweet and welcoming person. I’m glad things turned out better for her and Jacob as the story wrapped up.

The lessons kept me pondering long after I’d swiped over the last page. I said to myself, “No one can take from you what is truly yours if you just trust God and obey.” This was the case with David. Answering the call to wait on God, while he went about what was right—and in its due time—led him to eventually receive his heart desire. There’s nothing better than trusting God when you hear him speak. Everything always falls into place eventually.

And honestly, you can’t force love—a person either loves you back, or they don’t. If you have to convince them that they do, then they really don’t. My advice? Let it go! I can’t help but think that a certain character’s failure to understand and accept this was what led to his bitter character in book #2, Bleeding Heart. Perhaps if he had understood this earlier on in the story, he may not have gotten so invested and ended up so brokenhearted (what comes to mind is the prologue, Bleeding Heart).

Forget Me Not was a fab read—not as thought-provoking as its sequel, Bleeding Heart, but will certainly find its own special corner in your heart.

In Forget Me Not, which is the prequel to Amber’s debut novel, Bleeding Hearts, David saves Elizabeth from a rushing Colorado creek and helps her travel to Nevada to find her brother. Their journey is a realistic tale of trials encountered along the way. Arriving in Virginia City, she learns about her brother and this leads to involvements which test the love developing between David and Elizabeth.

Amber writes intriguing stories which have the feel of western sagas. Recurring characters add to the delightful epic quality of her stories. There will be a third book in “The Heart’s Spring” series, Morning Glory, which will feature the much-loved Myghal. If you like Christian western romance with engaging characters struggling with realistic emotional issues, you will want to read Forget Me Not by Amber Stokes. I suggest reading Forget Me Not before Bleeding Hearts, but each book does provide a satisfying story and conclusion. I’m really looking forward to Amber’s next tale about Myghal, a Cornish miner. Amber creates characters who come alive in your heart.

My favorite take-away passage from Forget Me Not: “Should we ever forget those we’ve loved? Maybe our paths will never cross with them again, but can’t we still be grateful for the depth they added to our lives?” She shrugged. “Surely God allowed us to love them for a reason. Right?”

Elizabeth Lawson is on a quest to find the brother she never knew. After being rescued from a raging river by a handsome mountain man, David, she finds herself trusting him as he joins her on her journey to Virginia City. But David has secrets of his own. Can love grow in the wake of heartache?

The prequel to Bleeding Heart, Forget Me Not took me back to Virginia City where it all started. Elizabeth and David's story was beautiful, and heartfelt. And I was pleased to find Joe, Seth, Myghal, and Sally also included in this touching tale.

The characters captured my heart, in this tender tale of prodigals and a love that never forgets. The story was of a good pace, and full of surprises, my heart especially went out to Joe, after finally learning the story of his past. Myghal again, stole the scene a couple times with his sage words and fierce friendship. I can't wait to read his story!

Overall, this was a tale that true to its title is not easily forgotten. Forget Me Not tells of love that holds on, even when hope seems lost, and love that gives hope for a new future. Definitely a book I would recommend most highly.

Forget Me Not is the first book in the Heart's Spring series. It tells the stories of Elizabeth Lawton and David, which I was quite excited to read about, having briefly heard about them from Bleeding Heart. -Also, it touched up on Jacob, Annabelle, Joe, and Myghal's lives, which was wonderful as well. It was great to see how everything fit together, and how all the characters' stories came through.

I have to say... I'm kind of sad how Joe's life worked out, from Forget Me Not, to Bleeding Heart. Even though he did kind of make me mad in this book, coming in and stealing Elizabeth from David! But I guess even he got healing in the end. Someday I'll have to read this series over again, in the correct chronological order!

A profound, bittersweet, and touching series over all! Forget Me Not was lovely, the ending scene so precious!! :) I eagerly await Morning Glory... (which I hear is Myghal's story??)

I'd been waiting for Forget Me Not since Bleeding Heart's release! It did not disappoint.

This second book of Amber's is actually the first one she ever wrote, thus it is the prequel to her debut. But no worries about reading them out of order: familiar characters make their way onstage, but the focus is exclusively on David and Elizabeth's journey.

It truly is a journey, too. From mountain passes to encounters with wild animals to fleeing on a train, the pace of this novel is destined to keep you reading. Amber's poignant prose and willingness to probe deep will, too. Come meet David and Elizabeth and love them as I did!

Would rate this between two and three if I could. It was rather dull and unremarkable. The heroine was very childish and I couldn't like her. The whole story was rather unbelievable.

It’s impossible not to be caught up in the characters of Amber Stokes’ books – the good guys and the bad guys. (You may recall I was slightly … focused … on the Bleeding Heart villain, Rufus, in my interview with Stokes. Let’s face it, I still am.)

While Rufus doesn’t make an appearance in Forget Me Not, the book in no way suffers from this lack. 😉 Some familiar characters appear from Bleeding Heart (Myghal!) and I loved getting more of his back story. (Sources tell me that Book 3 will have – le gasp! – even more. Squee!)

The plot is gripping (even got me away from Candy Crush! Sigh …), and character development is excellent. I was kept guessing throughout the novel, which I appreciated – I’ve read my share of Christian historical fiction and romance, and caught myself at every turn with “Well, that was unexpected.” And it WORKED!

I immensely appreciated how well the love triangle worked, too. As mentioned, I’ve read A Lot of Christian historical fiction and romance. And the love triangle doesn’t always work – for me or the characters. I’m inevitably rooting for one over the other, and never feel absolutely torn between the two myself. (Is this why I’m still single? KIDDING!) This book changed that, though; (no spoilers, don’t worry!) while of course I initially leaned toward one character to win the girl, the story appeared to be wrapping up nicely with the other. And for once in my life, I realized that IF the story went that way, I was okay with that, on/for the second character’s own merits.

(Read the story to determine for yourself how it ends, who gets the girl, and whether or not Elizabeth chose wisely!)

Forget Me Not, and Stokes herself, are refreshing changes in the fiction market. I’m excited to read more of her work, and am counting down already for book 3 in the series.

I received a copy of the book from the author. All opinions are my own.

Elizabeth Lawson never knew she had a brother. Her parents died when she was little and her neighbor, Sarah Anne, began raising her. Now in 1885, Elizabeth is eighteen, and Sarah Anne has decided to tell her about her older brother Jacob, who had already left home by the time Elizabeth was born. Angry with Sarah Anne and curious about the older brother she's never known, Elizabeth leaves for Virginia City, where Jacob moved to when he left home. On her journey, Elizabeth falls into a creek and is swept away by the current. Passing by with his horse named Liberty, David finds and rescues Elizabeth, taking her to his cabin to rest until she wakes up. When Elizabeth awakens the next day and tells David of her plans to find her brother, David doesn't think she should go alone and goes with her. When they arrive, they meet Joe Clifton, who works for Jacob and is smitten with Elizabeth. This puts David's nose out of joint, who finds himself falling for Elizabeth. When they arrive in the city, something feels off at Jacob's home with his wife Annabelle. Soon David learns Jacob's secret, which he knows will devastate Elizabeth. Yet he also has a secret.

This was a neat story. It really kept me guessing through the whole reading about numerous things. What was David's secret? What was Jacob's secret? Who was Elizabeth going to choose? The characters were likeable and I'm interested in reading more about them in the next book, Bleeding Heart. Elizabeth seemed like a sweetheart and I liked her and David together.

I think one of the most interesting parts was the diversity in this story. Whenever I think of the Wild West, I usually just think of cowboys, pioneers and saloon girls. But in Forget Me Not, we see other cultures, like people of Cornish decent and Jews. I think that was a really neat thing to incorporate.

I like how the title plays in this story too. Forget-me-not flowers play a role in the story, as well as the feeling of being forgotten.

All in all Forget Me Not is a nice story that fans of historical fiction, Westerns in particular, will enjoy.

I give this book a 4 out 5.

After hearing a ton of "buzz" about Amber Stokes' debut novel, Bleeding Hearts, I've been anxious to read one of her books! Since Forget Me Not is the first in The Heart's Spring series, I decided to wait for it to release and then read the series in order. (I'm attempting to be a purist here ... what can I say?!)

Within the first pages of Forget Me Not, I was instantly curious to find out what would happen next! David goes from reflecting on a past personal tragedy to rescuing a woman from nearly drowning in the river. Both captured my attention and had me wondering what would happen next. I enjoyed how the author dropped a few "bread crumbs" at a time to move the story along, while still keeping me curious about some things.

Of the characters introduced in the book, David was probably my favorite. He wasn't perfect (by any stretch!), but he was a character to admire. He took such good care of Elizabeth—even while facing his own demons. And he showed such sorrow and repentance upon making a bad choice. Very refreshing to see! I also enjoyed getting to know Myghal and look forward to reading more of his story in the next two books in this series.

The only possible drawback for me was that there were a few times that I wanted to know a little more of the "why" behind a certain action or decision. For instance, WHY did David leave Elizabeth so quickly once they got to Virginia City? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Overall, I very much enjoyed Forget Me Not! Fans looking for a western story with sweet romance mixed in are sure to enjoy this book! I'm so looking forward to reading the rest of this series! Congratulations, Amber, on a job well done! [4 stars]

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my fair and honest review.

itle: Forget Me Not

Author: Amber Stokes

Series: The Heart’s Spring #1

Chapters: 24

Genre: Christian Historical

Rating: 4.5 Stars

Forget Me Not is actually the prequel to Bleeding Heart though Bleeding Heart was published first. In Forget me Not Elizabeth Lawson is wanting to find her brother whom she has never meet before. David recues her from danger and agrees to help her find her brother. Both Elizabeth and David are running from their pasts. They just don’t realize it. Nor do they realize that they have ties to a simple flower the Forget Me Not flower.

I enjoyed reading Forget Me Not. I read it over the course of two days. If it hadn’t been for school I would have had it finished in one day. Just like Amber’s debut this book was an emotional read. But it was a book worth reading. Forget Me Not is a book that will make you think, and in this case it makes you think about forgiveness. Both God’s forgiveness and forgiving others.

It was nice to see some of the same characters from Bleeding Heart in this novel as well. I enjoy reading Amber’s writing style and novels. I am also looking forward to the next book in the trilogy Morning Glory. Amber’s books are a great read for anyone who likes Christian Historical Fiction and the west.

Loved it!!

I enjoyed this book. It's well written, full of delightful plot twists, and well, wonderful!

David & Elizabeth captured my heart in the beginning of the book. I was unhappy with both of them at times, but in the end it was worth it. I feel like there could have been more emphasis on remorse, forgiveness, grace, and redemption over the obvious flaws in some of the characters.

Also, I wish there would have been more in closure and resolution to Jacob & Annabelle's situation, I'm hoping the following books cover their story more.

This book far exceeded my expectations. Amber is a creative story teller. Her beautiful metaphors and word pictures melted my poetic heart. Forget Me Not definitely has some adult content, delving into the risky topic of brothels. Amber wrote about this in a skillful way that didn't leave me uncomfortable. I'll definitely be reading more from Amber!

What a sweet story of Elizabeth and her need to find her brother. She thought she didn't have any living relatives left. She finds out and runs off. Falls in the river and is rescued by David. He agrees to help her find her brother. They begin a journey together. David recognizes her from his past, but we don't know how. They travel together to Nevada. She finds her brother and much more. Who is her brother really? He seems to have secrets. A young man by the name of Joe enters and makes things confusing for Elizabeth.
It is such a great story of reconciliation and how they come to terms with their past and how they get there. What will Elizabeth do, who will she choose? That kept me guessing. I was really wondering what would happen. Amber does an excellent job writing western novels. I love the flower titles and how she ties that into her books.

I was really torn with this book. I couldn't really sympatize with the choices made by the heroine at some points knowing that her heart was not in it to proceed with them. The story had potential, but I feel it lacked more depth to the story, characters personalities and backgrounds as well as more situations to feel more connected with the characters and their emotional or physical struggles, particularly David's.

Overrall I think it was a fairly decent story with a potentially good an enyojable storyline and I liked how it was meant to be a journey to find where a person's heart really belong to, though I think it could have been better.

My rating is 2.5 stars

FORGET ME NOT by Amber Stokes is an exciting Inspirational Western Romance. #1 in "The Heart's Spring" and what a great beginning to a new series. A charming tale of flawed characters and their struggles with faith and love. Filled with forgiveness, intrigue and romance. Fast paced with drama and emotions. I enjoyed FORGET ME NOT very much! A great debut for this author and one I would recommend. Received for an honest review.

Amber writes a wonderful historical romance that is unique and full of adventure of the real west. I like her unusual settings, her daring conflicts and wonderful characters. It was especially fun to find out the stories of characters from Bleeding Heart which I enjoyed also. I received an ARC of this book for review.

Romance with a twist

I found the characters of Annabelle, David and Elizabeth very likable. The story was captivating and easier to read.It touched my emotions and I read it in two days was very hard to put down.

The flow of the narrative was not smooth. I spent most of the time thinking it was the most unlikely plot and the characters all seemed...immature. I wanted to enjoy it more, having seen all the positive reviews, but I just couldn't.

I just made it to about the 30% mark and just couldn't finish it. The beginning was illogical--I chalked it up to both of them being naive but it just seemed to go from bad to worse once they arrived in Nevada. I just cannot read on.
