Or maybe this year's Halloween spooks are benevolent creatures? Protectors? Fairies? Whispers from your subconscious and gut feelings? The last house on the block, however, is the most terrifying one. For Death lives there.

Come … as we journey to the first house…

Anna Erishkigal is an attorney who writes fantasy fiction as an alternative to cross-examining her children. She writes under a pen-name so her colleagues don't question whether her legal pleadings are fiction as well. Much of law, it turns out, -is- fantasy fiction. Lawyers just prefer to call it 'zealously representing your client.'

Seeing the dark underbelly of life makes for some interesting fictional characters. The kind you either want to incarcerate, or run home and write about. In fiction, you can fudge facts without worrying too much about the truth. In legal pleadings, if your client lies to you, you look stupid in front of the judge.

At least in fiction, if they become troublesome you can always kill them off.

This is 9/10ths of an unbiased review. The other 1/10th is of course eminently biased since one of the books submitted to this box set is my own book (so ignore that 10%). It's always interesting to be sent into a room of fellow authors, many of whom you don't know and have never read before, and then get to read their submissions. Every book in this collection was already running at least 4-stars on Amazon (many closer to 5-) so I won't shill the star-rating any further.

All I can say is ... wow! What a fascinating feast of views of the paranormal. I feel like a little kid who snuck off into the bushes to snitch all the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups out of the Halloween candy pillowcase before getting home!

This collection took me longer to finish than expected.
I assumed it would be an anthology of short stories, but it had a surprise with the end tale.

The last story was very different from the preceding tales, and at first I couldn't get into it.
I tried several times to begin, and it failed to grab my attention, as it was so very different. I set the book aside and began to read others. When that series came to an end, I noticed that this anthology was still awaiting completion.

I picked it up, restarted the last
