I'm not big on rock star heroes, but lead singer/guitarist Patrick 'Paddy' Hurley (30-ish) of rock group Sweet Hollow Ranch may be the one who could change my mind! Jeez, this guy was all kinds of hot...

This is a new series for Lauren Dane, about 4 rock star brothers, but is actually a spin-off from her Delicious series (I think we first see one of the Hurley brothers in Tart, which is a spin-off from her Brown family series. Need you read those 2 series before this one? Not necessary, although I wish I had read the last book in the Delicious series, Lush, before starting this one. Lush featured Paddy's brother Damien, who along with his new wife Mary, is a major supporting character in this one. But no matter, I can always go back to Lush. And I intend to.:)

So, the plot. When Paddy and his brothers were just starting out with their band, they played a lot of dive bars before they made it big. And at one dive bar near Portland, Oregon, Paddy met a young, blonde free spirited wild child named Natalie. Natalie was a waitress at the bar, and for 2 weeks hooked up with (and kept up with sexually) a young Paddy. They were young and passionate, but when Paddy left for the bright lights of L.A., Natalie curbed her wild tendencies, got her life under control, and headed for college. Now it's 12 years later, and Natalie is the librarian in tiny Hood River, Oregon. She's got a stable life that she's proud of, but she does have some family baggage. (She has an addict father who would make Romancelandia's Hall of Shame for worst father--evah.) Natalie runs into...you guessed it...Paddy(!) at the local coffee shop. And Paddy remembers her after all these years and many many women. But Nat wants no part of Paddy or his wild rocker 'lifestyle', no matter how irresistible and charming he is or how he still makes her panties melt...she's under control and she's not going back to the way she once was. But Paddy's not all "sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll" either--he's grown up. He sees the matured Nat and he likes what he sees. And he's home in Hood River, working on his family's ranch and working on a new album with his brothers. Can he convince the gun shy Natalie to give him a chance again? Can he earn her trust? Can he be the man she needs him to be? Can he be her anchor in her sometimes stormy life?

Paddy is pierced and has tats...

Natalie's Xmas gift to Paddy...

Yessss, I liked this one a lot. Ms. Dane brings these characters to life in a big way. So big that I thought about the story as a movie (a good sign for me). The dialogue was first rate--believable, sometimes steamy, and never awkward sounding. Paddy and Natalie and the supporting characters (especially the brothers) just leapt off the pages. Natalie and Paddy get together almost immediately, and things were going so well that I wondered "where else could this story go"? But there were some bumps along the way (mainly Nat's relationship with her scummy, spoiled father) and Paddy's life as a sexy rocker (which would be hard on any woman, I think). But what I liked about these characters was the maturity they brought to the story. I liked how they talked and worked their problems out. I liked how Paddy wanted to be the man for Nat, and I liked how she eventually wanted to be there for him. I don't know how to explain it, but everything they did just felt so real.

The heat level? Scorching, nearly erotic. There's many, many encounters, and it's hard to pick a favorite. Natalie enjoyed sex just as much as Paddy did, so they were definitely on the same page there. No complaints here about the heat factor...I found Paddy totally swoon-worthy.

There was just one minor quibble I had, a plot point that I wanted answered.

So, a pretty hot start to the new series. Ms. Dane introduced us to everyone who will be getting their stories, and I feel like I know enough about Paddy's brothers to care where their stories will take them. I find oldest brother Ezra the most intriguing, and I think his story (with Nat's friend Tuesday) will be both steamy and a little heart breaking. Can't wait for it! A steamy 4 1/2 stars for this one.:)

I must admit I struggled with this book. When you hit the 40% mark and are constantly looking to see how much more there is it's not a good sign. Still, I did finish it...eventually.

So, what did I like? Well, the premise of a rock star, a librarian and a small town setting sounded good. Add a supportive and loving family (his) and you've got a good base to start. Or so I hoped.

What I didn't like was that this story seemed to go nowhere. Yes, they both had issues - the h more than the H - but the manner in which the book was written was frankly boring. All theses long discussions about her feelings and his feelings, her talking with friends, him talking with his family etc. I honestly felt these conversations sounded more like they were discussing them with a therapist. It all seemed so detached and clinical. It was passionless.

And the book may have been peppered with steamy scenes but I couldn't even get into those. I was so bored by what went on before that I tended to skip over the "good" bits because I was no longer interested.

Yes, they get the HEA but it was a loooong time coming.

Surprisingly, this is the first book by this author I have read, given her extensive backlist. If this was an earlier novel I might be inclined to read further books to see her development. If, however, this is characteristic of her developed writing, then it don't think this is the author for me.

Ugh, this book needed to be 3/4 shorter than it was. There was a bit of profundity and story but it was marred by all the repetitiom of the exact same phrases, scenarios, character tics, explanations and realisations. By the tedious end it seemed that nothing had really happened, it was so diluted.

And the sex was rather tame. Who is finding this hot, virgins?

Furthermore, the emotions are overwrought, the personalities blah, the dialogue flowery and unreal, and the storyline bordering on shallow...well after all the stretching that it undergoes, that is. One thing i did like was Natalie's coming to terms with her reaction to her father.

The only book I remember liking of this author's is an mfm. In her writing, Dane needs, in some places, to take it down a notch and, in others, to kick it up.

Ps: the narrator was not great. Soft masculine voices and a preachy tone...meh.

Nothing click with me. The characters are 1 dimensional. The story does not picking up. And way too much sex.

2.5 Hearts I am on the fence about this book. But leaning towards the just ok side. First it was a bit wordy and secondly I am not really sure the characters ever really connected. It is also written in an odd manor. It is as if the writer is trying to make the conversations too real but going so far that the wording seems off.

I really am not sure what Paddy sees in Natalie. She has so many issues and never sees to enjoy life. Yes she used to so I can see his connection to her then but not now. Paddy is sweet. Not really the alpha macho man that the synopsis made me think he would be. But he is sweet.

I enjoyed the connection between the brothers and think maybe I would enjoy the story of Ezra and Tuesday better than this one.

I am a fan of many of Lauren Dane's series and was happy to see that she was releasing another one that had ties to the Brown and Delicious series. The Best Kind of Trouble focuses on Mary's husband Damien's (from Lush) brothers. The Hurley boys have a very notable band and have gained popularity and notoriety after their dive bar beginnings. However, while they were playing two-bit dive bars, Patrick "Paddy" Hurley met a sexy and wild girl who was wild as he was. The two embarked on a two-weeks passion filled romance of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. But their affair came to an end when the Hurley's left for California and the wild girl Natalie Clayton left for college. Fast forward several years and the wild child has settled down...well, both of them have. But, specifically Natalie who is now a very settled librarian in town. Fate decides to bring the couple back together when she runs into Paddy in the local coffee shop. She knows who he is immediately; however, it takes him a minute for recognition to dawn. And when it does, it is game on. He wants Natalie and proceeds to charm her relentlessly. Only, it's not working. Natalie is outwardly impervious to his charm because she is holding on to her well-honed control to within an inch of his life. She refuses to give in and allow Paddy's out of control lifestyle too eek over into her controlled one. But, Paddy is not at all daunted by Natalie's wall and breaks it down brick by brick. Together the find passion, wildness (although controlled), and love within the other. But one small misunderstanding and a lot of pride threaten to tear them apart.

I really enjoyed how Dane started this series. I loved both the primary and secondary characters in this one. Natalie and Paddy had chemistry but they were multidimensional, too. Natalie had a lot of baggage because of her 'upbringing' and that played out in her life. It actually played out in her relationship too and Paddy's hard-pressed battle to win her trust. Natalie's father was a sleeze of the first order and I hope that we actually read about karma sticking it to him in one of the books in the series. He was just reprehensible, but Natalie's grandmother wasn't any better. The thing I loved is that the Hurley's, including Mary, took Natalie into the fold and made her one of theirs. I think one of the reasons why I enjoyed this book so much was it felt like a comfortable hybrid between the Brown and Chase series -- not a redux of them but another series about a loving family. Sharon Hurley felt like a loving and strong mirror image of one, Mrs. Polly Chase in how protective they were of their children, and that included their children and loves.

I mentioned the secondary characters and I'd like to go back to them for a moment. I always enjoy Dane's book because she always writes about atypical characters. Not everyone is 'acceptable' or 'beautiful' according to traditional standards. Sure, she has plenty of hawt men in her book but I like the fact that Natalie's very best friend was black and her other friends were a hodge-podge mix of women, including a lesbian couple. And, they are woven into the story in the most organic manner so they don't scream, "LOOK, I'M A DIFFERENT TYPE OF CHARACTER!" Kudos to her on that.

I really enjoyed reading this inaugural book in the series and can't wait to see what she has in store for Tuesday and Ezra.

I loved this book. LOVED.

I can't put my finger on exactly what touched me so much about The Best Kind of Trouble. Like Mary Poppins, it was practically perfect in every way. The Best Kind of Trouble is a reunited lovers story - the best kind, at that. Natalie and Paddy didn't break up on a sour note and they shared great times together. The Best Kind of Trouble is a rockstar story - which I normally avoid - but the story takes place in a small town that shelters the group from the constant attention of the paparazzi. The Best Kind of Trouble (and the entire Hurley Boys series) follow a rock group...but the series seems to be more about family than about stardom. OMFG. LOVE.

I loved the way that Paddy has to romance Natalie and that Natalie has to learn, grown and open up to someone. I LOVE that Natalie has an entire group of wonderful female friends who love her immensely. I LOVED Tuesday, Natalie's BFF and roommate (who gets her own story, Broken Open, that I'm desperate to read but doesn't release until 25-Nov-2014. Arrrgh! >.<).

The only thing I disliked about this book was the ending (the Big Mis) and Natalie's family situation. I felt the Big Mis was...completely out of character for Paddy and it just felt out of place. Like Natalie, I couldn't understand what got the burr up Paddy's ass and even his explanation made no sense. Natalie's family was another hot button for me: Natalie's father is a horrendously selfish individual and sometime recovering drug addict. He shows up and causes a lot of problems for Natalie and Paddy but nothing is done about him. I really wanted him to get his comeuppance. Other than these two items, I was in heaven reading The Best Kind of Trouble. I loved watching Natalie and Paddy fall in love.

As if there was any question: Recommended!!

Soooo excited to read Broken Open. But now to decide if I want it in ebook format or MMPB. Decisions, decisions... :D

I fell pretty hard for the Hurley brothers in LUSH, and was so excited when Lauren Dane announced that she was writing Ezra, Paddy and Vaughan's stories. The first Hurley Boys book, Paddy's story was all I hoped for, and then some!
Rock star Paddy Hurley reconnects with a former fling, Natalie Clayton, now a librarian in his hometown. Neither has really been in a relationship before and both struggle to make it work, learning as they go. Natalie has trust and control issues stemming from a chaotic childhood. She has worked very hard to distance herself from her family and her past, to surround herself with a close-knit group of girlfriends and to work at a job that gives meaning to her life and brings joy and satisfaction. After lots of therapy, she is aware of most of her hot buttons and is continually striving to work through her issues as they arise. She isn't interested in a relationship, but finds herself unable to resist Paddy for long. Paddy is sexy, charismatic, charming, funny, and doesn't take himself too seriously. He's never had to work to get any woman he wanted. But he's never wanted a woman for more than a brief fling. That all changes when he runs in to Natalie again. These two have great chemistry and I loved them together. As usual, the sex scenes are smoking hot, and plentiful. Both characters are well-developed and multi-dimensional. They're both flawed, but pretty self aware. They makes mistakes and are far from perfect, but they're smart enough to realize their mistakes and eventually work through them. Natalie has more issues than Paddy, but all the conflicts felt authentic, never contrived. There were a couple of instances where it would have been easy to take these characters in predictable directions, but happily, Ms. Dane is a better writer than that, and chose another path for these two.
THE BEST KIND OF TROUBLE is a perfect example of what Lauren Dane does best-write amazing family relationships and hot, romantic relationships, with a great cast of fascinating supporting characters. The Hurley brothers are all hot, fun, and talented. They fight with and insult one another, but they are tight-knit and supportive of each other. They truly are each other's best friends; they're available for hanging out, giving advice and calling each other out when one screws up. Ms. Dane has set a pretty high bar and I seriously can't wait to read Ezra and Vaughan's books!

The Best Kind Of Trouble is the first book in the Hurley Boys series by Lauren Dane. This is my first book by this author and she was able to completely envelop me with her writing.
This is the love story of Paddy (Patrick), a rock star and Natalie, a librarian. They had spent two wild and passionate weeks together, many years ago, when they were young and wild. Upon meeting again at a cafe Paddy instantly wants to rekindle the fire they had shared and Natalie does her very best to resist him, enjoying the quiet and solitude of life on her own. Not used to having women say No to him Paddy is determined to break down those walls and Natalie eventually gives in.
Their relationship becomes intensely romantic but there are many bumps in the road. She has a need for control that derives from her distressing past, trust issues and no close family to speak of. Paddy is charming, sexy and does everything possible to make Natalie his.
All in all, I loved this contemporary romance told in a very unique way, loved the band of brothers and Paddy's family as well.
Now that we have heard Paddy's story I can hardly wait to read Ezra and Vaughan's.

Honestly, I found this book boring. I didn't real feel a connection between the two characters. Paddy was a really sweet guy, he was always trying to please Natalie and make her happy. It was impossible not to like him. However, I didn't see what was so remarkable for Natalie. She seemed like a bitch. She was so stuck in her need of control that she never really enjoyed life. She pushed Paddy away and anything he did was a 'button' for her. I get that people have triggers but this girl was just impossible to please.

I'm hoping the next book is better because I do like the Hurley boys

I just picked it up on a lark and holy crap, 5 hours later, had finished it. It was hot and steamy, the 2 MCs had so much chemistry and heat, I love a rock star romance and the FMC also had a boatload of baggage and triggers and i just really liked their romance. If I had one complaint, it would be that the final fight seemed pointless and didn’t serve any purpose other than to proved a dark moment before the eventual HEA. It seemed silly and out of character for Paddy to behave that way.

Not much happens ... after reaching 60% the story drags to the end. Meh!
Their mother accepts all women except Kelly ... I was very angry about that. What a bitch.

She’d been underage, as had he, but they’d spent the next two weeks together around her shifts at the bar and his gigs.

One of their songs, “Dive Bar,” had been about her and those two weeks.

A new challenge was always fun. Especially when it concerned a pretty blonde with long legs and a smile that invited a man to sin and not repent.

“Hmm, sounds familiar, but, Paddy, you have a thing for blondes. There are stories like that from coast to coast and across Europe. They all run together after a time.” “I do have a really fucking awesome life.”

“I didn’t dump her! It was fall, she was heading off to college and we were on the road. It was fine. No tears. No drama.”

“Cut the shit. You’re into it because it’s a challenge.”

“No. I’m not interested in this...whatever it is. I don’t want to play games. I’m not being coy. I have a nice, quiet life. I like it that way.”

His mother crossed her arms over her chest. “Oh, and she suddenly wants to go out with you?” Sharon Hurley was not one for any foolery that had to do with anyone taking advantage of her children.

==>no one defends the ex-sister-in-law out loud ... everyone is quiet, letting their mother think and speak ill of her.<==
But Paddy had to hand it to Kelly. She’d had more than one opportunity to leave the area for school and her job, but she’d turned it all down so their daughters could see their dad on a regular basis.

“I’m glad we have our own house with no one close enough. I can’t imagine what goes on at Vaughan’s place. Ezra, well, he keeps his business away from the ranch, and I know what Paddy is getting up to.” Mary winked at Natalie, who groaned.

“She’s a good girl. And she has a big heart. I was worried you’d end up with a moron with big boobs and a tiny brain.” He winced. “Why? Why not big boobs and a big brain? I’m an overachiever.”

“Just think of Paddy’s face when you say all your girlfriends were in your bed snuggling you when they broke it.” More laughing came.

“Keeping low expectations means you’re not as disappointed when people mess up.”

I say I have vagina. Way tougher than balls.

==> about Kelly<==
She wondered about their mother. Paddy had said his ex-wife was a really good mother who stayed nearby so Vaughan could see them and be a regular part of their lives. Mothering like that was sort of miraculous to Natalie.

You didn’t trust me to handle this, and now it’s fucked. Your need to always have control has wrecked everything.”

“It is about me, though. If this gains speed, it’s my girlfriend who looks like a dope-fiend skank.

“I think you need to go. Cool off awhile. I’ll be back home in a month.”

==>the only daughter-in-law she had not accepted and rejected from the start was Kelly, the mother of her two granddaughters, whom her SOB son cheated on.<==
Sharon paused. “Honey, she needs a momma something fierce. Her grandmother is useless. Her father is worse than useless. Let me tell you, he won’t even see me coming when I get my chance. But Natalie needs to be loved like a mother can love her.”

I've got LOST IN TRANSLATION. Too bad.... I don't get the feeling of this book.

Natalie Clayton, a small town librarian and Paddy Hurley, a member of a successful rock band with his brothers, hooked up years ago for 2 weeks that neither of them have ever forgotten. Natalie isn’t that same person anymore and she’s worked hard to leave that wild, partying girl behind and takes her job and quiet life very seriously. She’s cut out people from her life who have dragged her down, mainly her own family, and she’s surrounded herself with good, close friends and is happy. The last thing she wants to do is upset this life she’s made by letting Paddy come crashing back into it. He’s still recording music, still in the public spotlight and she’s not interested in being a part of that life anymore. Paddy has other ideas though and wants one date with Natalie. And she makes him work for it, which is always fun to see play out!

There’s something about Natalie that helps to ground Paddy. The only other person who’s been able to do that is his older brother Ezra. Paddy isn’t one to take no for answer, so he shows up at the coffee shop that Natalie hits every morning and doesn’t let up until she gives him a chance. They start things out slow and I liked seeing their relationship progress. There are some nice moments between not only them as a couple, but plenty of scenes with Paddy’s rock n’ roll brothers and Nat’s friends as well.

Lauren Dane always brings the sexy to her books and Nat and Paddy are no exception. For as much as I enjoyed their romance, there were a few things that bugged me. There’s a lot of talk about button pushing and how it relates to Natalie fitting into Paddy’s world and his public persona with his fans. It also relates to Paddy needing to be needed by Natalie. So of course with all this talk, someone’s button get pushed causing a big angst filled fight between Paddy and Natalie. And the whole scene surrounding this fight just didn’t work for me at all. It almost felt like Paddy’s reaction came out of nowhere and his argument just didn’t make sense and even felt out of character. Unfortunately, this comes at the end so it soured my feelings on the story being left with this fight so close to the HEA, which of course we get.

The supporting cast is well done and I really enjoyed getting to know the Hurley brothers and look forward to more from them. Their stories are built up nicely and I’m anxious to get to know them as well as Nat’s best friend Tuesday as the series progresses.

While I did like the majority of The Best Kind of Trouble, there were a few things that I didn’t necessarily enjoy and it took away from the story a little bit for me. But I’m a sucker for a series centered around brothers, so I’ll be checking out the next book as I did really enjoy getting to know all the Hurley’s.

It feels strange to knock a book for being TOO realistic, but that's how I've been feeling after reading Dane's contemporary erotic romance. The novel is told largely through dialogue, with little narrative; it feels as if we're sitting in, listening to and occasionally watching real people's lives. There isn't much of a story or plot, though, to give those lives shape or form or meaning. In real life, we don't expect romances to unfold in a shapely way, but in a book, I prefer some sense of logical progression, some sense of change and/or movement as a novel unfolds. Hence, the too realistic problem.

Former wild girl now cautious librarian Natalie runs into mega-star rock-n-roller Paddy Hurley, a man with whom she had a scalding, if short-lived affair back in the day. Paddy wants to take up where they left off (not sure why, except that the sex was smoking), but Natalie is more than a little reluctant, fearing the wild ways of the typical rock star. But Paddy woos her with some charm, some wine, and some pleasure-boat cruising, and the two begin dating. One relationship blow-up happens when Paddy gets drunk during a wine-tasting (Natalie's perpetually reforming but always falling off the wagon alcoholic father has been and continues to be the emotional bane of her existence); another when Paddy thinks Natalie is turning to his brother instead of him when tabloid trouble hits. But they manage to eventually talk through their troubles, accept each other's "baggage," recognize each other's "triggers," and take responsibility for their own shit (a phrase that is repeated so often that it feels like we're in therapy, rather than in a romance novel).

No real character arcs here (Natalie was in therapy before the book started, and worked out all her issues, while Paddy doesn't really seem to have any issues), or plot arc. Just a romance arc, and a fairly weak one at that. But yes, the sex scenes are steamy...

Natalie is a small town librarian. One morning in the coffee shop she sees rock star, Patrick (Paddy) Hurley. Natalie and Patrick had a two week fling long ago before Patrick’s band hit it big, and Natalie remembers it fondly. However, she’s made a lot of changes in her life since then, and she’s not interested in the chaos she’s sure Paddy will bring with him. Paddy is very interested in her, though, and he really wants another chance to explore the explosive chemistry they had years ago and to see what Natalie is like now. Natalie has a history that has left her with a lot of triggers. Her mother left her when she was 3 and her father has been a drug addict all her life. Natalie is a heiress that has a huge trust fund, but she works hard at her job and volunteering and she is very private about her personal life having got control of her life in college. Paddy's life as a sexy hot as hell rock is too much for her. These too have a lot of chemistry the sex scenes are hot, but either one of them no how to have a relationship without pushing each others buttons. I loved the way Ms. Dane wrote this book it was well written and read as I listened to this book on audio. I also liked The Hurley family a lot they were close and had each others back and their mother Sharon was tough as nails and was willing to do anything to help her boys. As the band works on their new album things get intense between Nat and Paddy and she gets nervous about his touring with all the groupies. I loved that Paddy was willing to fight for Nat something that he has never had to do before with a woman. This book is the first in the Hurley Boys series and I am looking forward to listening to the next book in this series Ezra and Tuesday with both of them having dark past I am sure that I will love it. If you like hot sexy Rock Stars I recommend that you read this book.

Received an ARC from NetGalley for review

I loved the Lauren Dane books I have previously read, but this one was just off for me. How many different times would they say push my buttons. It got old. Don't get me wrong the Hurley Boys are hot and they're rock stars, but there was just a little to much personal history angst in her. I'm looking forward to Ezra and Vaughn's HEA. On a side note we get to see Adrian Brown from the Brown siblings series.

I'm stopping at 40% ...
It's a well written romance but frankly, I'm bored. I feel like there is no real conflict and the characters don't undergo any development - they are all nice, kind, outgrown their crazy youth.

I'm used to predictability in romance and I don't really mind it, but there is nothing in this story that tempts to read on. I see mostly positive reviews, so I could just be me, or wrong timing on my part to read it. Anyhow, I'm not rating it since I haven't finished it.

One of the better romances I've read in my recent foray into the romance genre. Mostly because it actually had sex. Hurray! My other novels have had 2-3 sex scenes, max.

Of course, the guy was super-rich. Big surprise there. But the woman, Natalie, also didn't have to worry about money, so that was nice.

It was local to me, which was really fun. I doubt I'll ever read another book that takes place in Hood River, Oregon.

It loses a star for the argument they have at the end. I was incredibly frustrated at it.

A gorgeously witty, scorching and tender story of a rock god and a librarian who reunite years after a blazing two week liaison. They were young and silly, but now they’ve grown up and can’t deny there’s still an intense energy between them.

Even though rock stars and librarians seem to be in vogue, this first book in the Hurley Boys series cannot be mistaken this for the quintessential rock star story. Sure there’s sex (lots of sizzling hot scenes), drugs (not the main character) and rock and roll (we get to follow the entire process from making an album to going on tour). But this is an incredibly slow and sweet rediscovery of two people who met once and now have grown and matured.

I loved Patrick “Paddy” Hurley. A charming, flirty farmer turned successful rocker who loves his family, has gone through personal struggles as well as heartbreaking battles with his brothers brought on by the lifestyle they lead. And now, this sexy alpha with an inner gentleman is determined to win Natalie’s heart and trust.

But Natalie, who has spent years building the life she wants, where control reigns, far from the chaos of her childhood is weary of what might Paddy’s way of life might bring. But her strength, naughtiness and passion for helping are the perfect blend to anchor Paddy through the storms life presents.

I really enjoyed how Lauren conveys Nat and Paddy’s gradual, honest and mature romance developing their characters as they navigated the sometimes jarring but mostly swoony road to happiness.
“His voice was caramel and a little bit of smoke. His eyes went half-lidded as he began to sing about skin and curves. Of eyes as blue as the summer sky and hands and shoulders that held the weight of everyone’s sins…
It was about being burned alive by need, by desire and love. About holding something so beautiful and strong in his hands that he could barely breathe.”

I also appreciated all the supporting characters. Presenting the tight bonds in his family and the connections she formed with her friends was a sure way for me to anticipate the books to come.

Although the plot is wonderful and packed with incredibly endearing characters that feel real and leap out to carve a place in your heart and who I look forward to know more of, the narrative felt at times choppy and at times too prolonged. And even though we read about the entire album production process and the descriptions where pretty good, it also failed to transport me to what I’ve felt going to rock concerts.

The Best Kind of Trouble reads like a good old fashion romance, which makes me very nostalgic, but in a good way. Paddy and Natalie are thoughtful, mature people, who are surrounded by a great cast of characters. I loved their history together and how both learned from their mistakes in order to become a great couple. Paddy, oh Paddy, you stole my heart you dirty talking during sex, romantic, I love to cook for my woman hero. Paddy is one of my favorite heroes this year because he's so gosh darn adorable. He's also a famous singer but doesn't let his fame go to his head. He's very much a "aw, shucks" type of guy with incredible charm. Natalie is a librarian who loves her work and tries to distance herself from Paddy because of a hot fling they both had together years ago. Natalie was in her wild, rebellious stage (she cut all ties with her family, worked in a dive bar and got two tattoos in an interesting area on her body) then and gave into the temptation with Paddy, right before he made it big. She never thought she would see him again, buy surprise, she lives in the same town he grew up in and where his parents lives. The moment Paddy sees Natalie again, he plans on courting and then claiming her, which she does fight against at first. But Paddy, the sweet talking gentleman breaks down her resolve.

The Best King of Trouble takes over a period of time, almost a year from the time Natalie and Paddy see each other, to the start of their relationship and then their status as a couple. Lauren excels best with the engaging dialogue from the characters and the humdinger sex scenes that are very arousing and satisfying. I adored Paddy so much because he is such a good guy and very protective and sweet, especially when it comes to Natalie's drug addicted father who won't leave her alone, including her grandmother who guilt trips Natalie into forgiving her father. Paddy is so far gone over Natalie that it's too cure for words. Paddy and his family are Natalie's biggest cheerleaders and bring her into their fold, not questions asked.

There's not much angsty or heavy drama here, other then the issues with Natalie's family and if she and Paddy can stay committed and true when he's on the road. Also the ending feels abrupt and some loose ends left flapping in the wind. But I was very much invested in Paddy and Natalie's HEA.

Even with the high sensual factor and hot love scenes, The Best King of Trouble is very sweet and tender. Overall a very enjoyable read that makes you want to kick back and relax.

THE BEST KIND OF TROUBLE is a beautiful and emotional love story and so much more. This book gave me that feel-good book vibe from start to finish! I fell in love with both Paddy and Natalie. Because they were realistic and open. They had issues and flaws and weren't afraid to admit to them and realize they weren't perfect. They showed a relationship needs to be worked on, even when the sexual compatibilty is strong and the sex is hot. And believe me, the sex in this book is HOT!

I loved this book! It was romantic, sweet and sexy. I fell hard for Paddy's wooing of Natalie and letting her set the pace. I also loved the brotherly banter between especially Ezra and Paddy and the bond between Natalie and her best friend Tuesday. It showcased Dane's talent for writing families and friends so well. I fell even more in love with Paddy's family and also adored Natalie's friends. The good ones I adored, the ones I was supposed to dislike I truly hated and I was rooting for Natalie when she told her family members off.

THE BEST KIND OF TROUBLE is a perfect combination of amazingly written characters with issues, depth and layers, heart-wrenching emotion and super hot and dirty sex and that always works for me. Lauren Dane and this book really blew my mind and set me straight. As much as LUSH (Damien Hurley's story) didn't work for me, Paddy's story most definitely did. It gave me everything I missed in the other book and took away my fear of falling out of love with Lauren Dane's writing. I'm now anxiously and longingly awaiting Ezra's story.

Memorable Scenes:
- the one where daddy Hurley tells Paddy how he courted Paddy's mom > loved it!
- the one with Paddy's song for Natalie > yup, I cried
- the first club gig after the recording > it felt like I was there, at the concert

Favorite Quotes:
She cocked her head as if she had no idea he was talking about the two weeks they’d spent nailing each other as though sex was going to be outlawed any moment.

He put a pillow on the floor and knelt on it. “Don’t worry, the pillow can stay for when it’s your turn to be on your knees.” Dear God, he was going to melt her. Her bones and muscles and skin were just going to drip into a puddle of wordless, turned-on goo at his feet.

“You wreck me. No one has ever wrecked me. You don’t mean to. It’s not calculated. You just do it because you’re brave and honest and Christ, I’m falling in love with you. And I do want to make it better because you’re so much to me. You ask me questions, and you care about my life, and you have this heart that fells me.”

I have received an ARC via NetGalley.

I adore Lauren Dane, because none of her stories are following a run-of-the-mine “formular” and each one of her series are unique and smoking hot.

The book The Best Kind of Trouble can be placed in the “Brown Family” and “Delicious” universe and tells the story of Paddy, the brother of Damien from the book “Lush“. In my opinion, you should’ve read all the previous books (yup, fangirling here like mad), because there are recurring characters and to understand some background information faster… but The Best Kind of Trouble can also be read as a stand-alone, since the series “Hurley Boys”starts with this book (and not with “Lush”).

What kept me reading and turning the pages until it was morning already and I looked like a rabbit at work? Natalie, the heroine of the story, and Paddy already know each other from the past, right before the Hurleys became stars and it was a bit different to read about two characters (with a history) getting together again, without having to go through all the stages of “first time romancing” (don’t worry, Paddy does the romancing thing just fine).
And as always, Lauren Dane writes about strong women, who know what and who they want (please give me a slice of that attitude!) and Natalie is -despite her history- very confident… I think, she doesn’t “need” a man to be happy.

And I really liked how the backstage atmosphere at the Hurley concert was described in this book, the psyched up Paddy, slightly tipsy and drunk and Natalies reaction after seeing him… it was almost tangible and as a reader, I kinda felt like a voyeur ;)
I love, that Lauren Dane writes about “people next door” (okay, they are more attractive and more alpha than your common neighbor…) not schmaltzy stories, but about characters who “feel” real! People who love, argue and get it together again; and who actually talk with each other instead of running away (aka typical romance novel behaviour).

Natalie (orderly and almost a control-freak) and Paddy (chaotic) are polar opposites and perfect for each other. Of course, Paddy did have his rockstar attitudes, but I expected it from this book… and the preview for the upcoming story about Ezra and Tuesday was icing on the cake!

Only the ending (with Natalies father) was kind of rushed, but the lovestory of Natalie and Paddy, the family dynamics of the Hurley’s and the writing style kept me entertained until the last page.

Small-town librarian Natalie Clayton's life is very predictable and structured and she's worked very hard to make it that way. She likes to be in control of her life and her circumstances and is not looking for anyone to challenge that.

Rock-star, lead singer and guitarist of the band Sweet Hollow Ranch, Patrick (Paddy) Hurley runs into Natalie at a coffee shop in the small town of Hood River, Oregon where he and his three brothers live and run a ranch when not on tour.

Back in Natalie's wilder days when she worked as a waitress at a bar and before Paddy's group made it big and they played a lot of dive bars, Paddy and Natalie had a two week fling. And it looks like he's interested in starting it back up again. But after 12 years and cleaning up her life, Natalie wants no part of Paddy's fast lifestyle. What she hasn't counted on is that Paddy has also grown up, likes the woman Natalie has become and is looking for more than just a fling. But can he convince Natalie to let go of the tight control she has on her life and trust him to take care of her?

While this is book 1 in The Hurley Boys series, Damien's story is actually book 3 of the Delicious series (which I read immediately following this book). While Damien and his wife Mary play supporting roles in this novel it is not necessary to have read their story first.

The relationship between Paddy and his brothers was fun to read. While they argued and bickered and everyone griped at Paddy for being such a perfectionist in the studio they were also great friends who were not afraid to speak their minds and give heartfelt advice to each other. This is a reunion story of sorts as Natalie and Paddy already knew each other physically from years before but this time around they got to know each other lives and pasts and future dreams as well. Highly recommended for those who like contemporary love stories as well as a little rock-n-roll with their romance.

I actually really enjoyed this book. I got it at BEA and thought it would be just another one of those romance novels you pick up at the pharmacy on vacation, but it was a great story! Nathalie and Paddy's relationship was healthy. Both partners were honest with each other about their feelings, comfort levels, pasts, triggers, and emotions. There was open communication and consensual sex within a loving relationship. Can't say the same for many other books. CoughcoughFiftyShadescoughcough. I also enjoyed the music aspect of this story - falling in love with a songwriter is romantic. The secondary characters were cool and memorable, too. Mary and Tuesday would make great pals.

The plot was fairly predictable: the typical guy pursues girl, guy and girl are happy together, guy and girl fight, cry and get back together. But happy endings are always nice. I read the last page and smiled. It left me feeling happy, which is what a book should do, right?
