Allbooks Reviews named Demon Key one of its top three fiction books in 2009. “David Brookover has crafted a work of phenomenal fiction in Demon Key. Dexter Lowe, Teddi McCoy, and Jackson LaFevre are a trio that only the fates in their most capricious mood can draw together. It is one to be read, recommended, and remembered.”
This is another book where my review disappears. I don’t know what to say about it anymore, but I think that I will just write the review from what I remember of the story.
Teddi McCoy is an investigator of things that are supernatural and she works with a few others. They get the call to investigate a fossil which turns out to be more than one. And the other fossils are alive.
More than alive. The “fossils” turn out to be dangerous. Will they be able to survive the rampage of these extinct creatures? Only time will tell.
If you enjoy adventure, this is a book for you. Its exciting a mystery gathering the facts and a reminder just because for find something old doesn't mean your discovery doesn't have consequences. I loved it. A must read by a greatly talented author. This is a book that I could read over and over!
The book was enjoyable, had some fun aspects to it, and I did like the three main characters (Teddi, Dex, & Jack).
But, the book also had a few problems...
I thought there were only two main characters (Teddi & Dex) until about half way through the book when the author, all of a sudden, introduced the third character (Jack). A little late to be introducing a main character, especially when the new character becomes the main focal point of the book.
And speaking of characters, there were too many secondary characters to keep track of.
The main characters got into a lot of sticky and deadly situations, but I never felt that the charterers felt like they were in much danger. The author, trying to move the story along, choose to resolve their situations too easily. Somebody is about to die, but suddenly a psychic vision from hald way around the world saves them... Just too easy... And there was also way too much nonchalance in the characters attitudes; Somebody just died, people are missing, let's go get a beer and regroup in the morning...
With that being said, the book was still enjoyable; the author threw in a few twists that I didn't expect... twists that might be a little silly to other readers, but I found them amusing.
I do look forward to reading the next book with Teddi, Dex, and Jack.
I kept trying, I really did. I liked some of the characters, which is why it gets 2 stars and not 1. I found the use of exclamation points that were liberally interspersed didn't any any excitement. This is the first time in a long time I've not finished a book, but this one just couldn't keep me interested. I kept hoping since I was halfway through it would get better but alas, I don't have the willpower to try and find out.
I gave it five stars because it is well written and keeps you wanting to read it. The action is fast paced with twists that you don't expect. A really good read.
David Brookover is a winner! I was happy to find this after Demon Key. I love the characters. The story is fast-paced, suspenseful, and hard to put down.
