In this second volume of The “Unknown” Reality, Seth radically expands our conceptions of “self,” by showing us that the human personality is literally infinite in its scope and potential. He discloses precisely how probable realities combine to create our waking lives, and how our “higher selves” make decisions regarding our everyday existence. In a far-reaching exploration of the dynamics of desire and free will, he asserts that each atom, molecule, and cell has its own consciousness and powers of choice. With humor and simple analogies, Seth leads us beyond our ordinary level of awareness into a spectacular discovery of the multidimensional nature of the self, including:
• “Consciousness units” as the basis of our universe • The relevance of extrasensory perception in understanding our world • The worlds we visit in dreams and out-of-body states • Dreaming as a science to create present and future realities • “Families of consciousness” we choose to belong to • Practical methods for exploring your own “unknown reality”
There is an “unknown” reality. I am part of it, and so are you . . . Each individual is a part of the unknown reality . . . To explore the unknown reality you must venture within your own psyche, travel inward through invisible roads as you journey outward on physical ones . . . I hope that [in this book] the reader can see the greater dimensions that touch ordinary living, and sense the psyche’s greater magic. — Jane Roberts, Speaking for Seth
Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name.
Roberts was born in Saratoga Springs, New York. After attending public schools, she attended Skidmore College. She wrote in a variety of genres: poetry, short stories, children’s literature, and novels. When she was in her 30s, she and her husband began to record what she said were messages from a personality named "Seth", and she wrote several books about the experience.
This is my fourth Seth book, and I am excited to say that measurable changes have occurred in my life: I stopped eating anything that could look at me with eyes, I stopped drinking alcohol forever, and I love my dreams. Now, that I know I am creating my dreams— rather than being a victim to them, I can direct them in any way I choose; which is also trickling into my physical world.
And if this was not enough, I created a virtual city!! This idea is suggested to enhance our physical experience, by opening us up to an "Invisible Reality," which exists all around us, but we cannot see it yet. This Virtual City, though "invisible" is just as real as our physical one,... in the psyche.
Seth gave directions: Create the city in a specific location, like a satellite above Earth. It was fun for me, because it allowed me to mentally create the world as I would have it be, and then draw on its energy and those visiting it to support "physical reality".
I decided to create a city for my son, as a Christmas gift, "Michael's City" I called it. I spent 40 mental hours designing it and giving it all my focus and energy. He was a little confused by the gift, having not read any of the Seth Material, but I think he thought it was cool. I used the Higgs Field, as the energy force to create it on, which is a real energy field made up of invisible particles-- that can be in two places at once, perfect hu? I invite you to visit Michael's City...and help him bring in a soul mate, his dream all his life was to have his own family, and it will be magical when this happens.
I have a Hypnotherapy Practice in Doylestown PA, 2 hours from NYC, I utilize the Seth Material, and my session is usually 2-3 hours and resolves life long issues in just one session. You can watch my full review for this amazing book on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/Xf1DOzZb2nY I love the Seth Books, I think they are absolutely amazing. I’ve read three other ones, which I’ve also done reviews for, including ‘The “Unknown” Reality’ Vol.1, which was amazing, I loved it. And now I’ve read Vol. 2, I think I love this one even more, it was absolutely brilliant! So, what the Seth books are; Seth is the spiritual entity, Jane Roberts is the woman channelling Seth, and her husband is writing the notes and edits it into a book. It’s a three-party group effort, and it’s absolutely brilliant. Whatever you think about spirits, and whether it’s fake or it’s real or all that crap, I think people should just try and read them for the quality of the information, wherever it comes from, the quality of the information is absolutely excellent, and I’m a big fan of them. One of the things that was interesting in this book was that Seth was really discussing societies in the wider context. So, whereas the other books really focus a lot on the individual and the private experience and universe, this one talks about societies more than the other ones did, and I really enjoyed that. Especially when you think about where we are globally, and particularly at the moment, I think it’s a lot harder to just concentrate on yourself, we really do need to be thinking about society as a whole, the world as a whole, where we’re all going, and taking charge and control of that experience as well. So, it seemed particularly important to be reading about that. I learnt loads from reading this book, there are exercises in it to help you think about how you make decisions, and all the probable realities, really bringing that home, of just how often you make a decision to go a certain way in life, and how you do actually think about other ways that things could be done, and you do make a choice about where you go and what you do, rather than things just happening to you as it can sometimes seem. There was a lot of looking behind where we are, behind that, and behind that. So, we’re here in this life, and Seth’s talked a lot before about probable realities, other realities that your soul is experiencing where you’ve done things differently and brought out different parts of your character. And also talking about reincarnational selves, is that the same thing? Those probable selves, are they reincarnational lives in different ways where you’re living out different parts of the soul's character or having different lessons that you want to go through. And then I felt like this book was almost looking at what’s behind that system of going out and trying different things, and that you’re actually having complementing lives, contemporaries as Seth called them. Seth speaks about complementing contemporaries that may be learning about the same thing but in different ways, eg. Family; you might be learning about that through having a big, massive family, you may be learning about it through having one child, you may be learning about that through having no children and desiring children, you might be learning about that through raising your children in a certain way, or a different way; It’s all learning about family, but just in many different ways. It was really interesting. This books directly leads on from Volume 1. On its own Volume 2 is a fairly substantial-sized book. Initially they were writing this as one book, but near the end of writing it they’ve decided to split it into two volumes. It was probably a good idea because it would have been a megalithic book otherwise, and I think they worked well on their own as books. There are lots of excellent quotes throughout the book which were brilliant and thought provoking to read. it’s one of those books that when you’re reading it there are so many bits that are profound and wonderful. Seth books are some of the few books that I read very slowly because there’s so much to absorb in them. There is a lot to unpack in the book about where we come from and how reality is formed. There is a lot about how reality is created, and taking a bit more of an active role in not just creating your own personal reality, but also the wider reality that we’re experiencing here. This quote is right from the end of the notes, it is from after the book is written, this is the epilogue in fact;
‘(in the 82nd session, which was held on the evening of August 27. 1964, Seth said: “When man realizes that he, himself, creates his personal and universal environment in concrete terms, then he can begin to create a private and universal environment much superior to the [present] one, that is the result of haphazard and unenlightened constructions. “This is our main message to the world, and this is the next line in man’s conceptual development, which will make itself felt in all fields, and in psychiatry perhaps as much as any.” In one way or another all of Seth’s books are elaborations of that basic message, stated nine months after his sessions with us began in December 1963. It should be obvious that the two volumes of “Unknown” Reality are further ramifications of that thesis.’
It’s so important to learn that. That’s one of the first things that came out when I read the Seth books, about creating your own reality and being aware of that. I think ‘The “Unknown” Reality’ has really helped me to be aware of where I create things and to work to envision other realities, other things, and to open up to other ideas. It’s all very positive, a very good book. I’ve really enjoyed it. It was brilliantly written, just like the other ones are. I’ve loved this book from start to finish and reading it was a wonderful experience, and I recommend it to absolutely everybody. I can’t wait to read the next one. The Seth series is long and complicated. In conversations supposed "channeled" through Jane Roberts, the Seth personality/entity reveals his own take on metaphysical reality. The material really does twist your brain and forces it to consider new ways of looking at the world. Be prepared to throw away all you pre-existing assumptions about life and the universe. I'll tell you now, that the information will take time to absorb and process and that several readings might be in order. But over time, the books seemed to have much validity. My advice is to dive in and glean what you can at any level.
Brilliant construct here. Fantasy or manifestation of the will, whatever you think, the "reality" of this book is subtle: Multilayered.
Naturally, don't start here because it is a second volume. Even though the intro by Jane's husband, Robert, permits readers to start here, I stopped a few pages in and bought the first volume. The references to Vol 1, as well as the footnotes that trace topics all over the place from book to book... it became a tall order, flipping back and forth with so many endnotes per section (thankfully they weren't all at the end of the book. That would have been a drag!)
Every reader of Jane Roberts will know what a grab-bag these endnotes are... you think as you flip ahead, "Yay! Will it be an extra tidbit of Seth dialogue? A historical reference? One of Robert's sharp observations about Seth's inconsistency, or unsettling consistency over so many books?" Then you get there and it just says "Refer to Session 394, Dec. 22 1971." Oh. Uh, it's fine. I believe you.
Therefore, it is worth reading this sockdolager of Jane Roberts to get so many footnotes, you just won't believe the comprehensive enmeshment done by her husband!
Further adding to the "reality" were the increasing number of typographical and spelling errors. Near the end, Robert's italic session notes began to mention how many handwritten sheets he had to transcribe--how many books were pouring forth at once--and how he was struggling to refer to everything he knew he could... it shows in the work. It is the sloppiest Seth book, for spelling, but it lends to that essence of a real rushing forth of channeled words.
That's the technical stuff. So far as the content, Seth fans will find some surprises here at the entity's candor in some places, and more ESP class interaction than ever before (there is even a class paper by Sue Watkins included). A lot of talk about the house they were trying to buy, and the life of Robert and Jane as explained in cosmic webwork by Seth. It's good material, and as always, you will be shaking your head, either in confusion, disbelief, or wonder; because these books are a bright, cosmic way to look at many details of our consciousness that cannot be denied or explained (yet).
The reader will find here a message of hope, and a reason for optimism even as world affairs continue to poison our earthly existence. Makes it sound like pseudoreligious hogwash, doesn't it? But don't take that impression. Any religion you want, and many western philosophies, can even be held up to this light and give you new perspective.
of course this books is not promoted by world leaders throughout cause if they'd do, we would all realize that we all choose and create the reality we live in and that is something 'intelligentsia' and governments want to avoid but this book (and what is stated in it) lies on my night table cause i'll read & re-read & re-re-read from back to forth, from one chapter to another and back again ; it's got so much potential (in you/me) that it is more meaningful than the Bible & Science combined
