The Miami Dade Crime Lab is called in to examine the body of a young woman who has washed ashore on an island in Florida Bay. Lieutenant Horatio Caine is quick to identify the probable murder weapon: a shark dart used by the navy as part of an experimental program to kill enemy divers. However, during the autopsy, Doctor Alexx Woods finds that the true cause of death was drowning; the dart was used postmortem. When another mangled body of a woman is discovered, Caine begins to suspect the worst. The unusual and violent nature of the crimes bears all the hallmarks of an organized serial killer -- sexual predation, a great deal of preparation and a disturbingly distorted worldview. Now, the lieutenant and his team must race to piece together all the clues to stop the murderer before they can strike again.

This is really good, but really blunt. This goes deeeeeeep into what investigators have to do/ask and wow it can get personal. Brace yourself.

I can't speak for the accuracy of the science but it's at least thought out (unlike a lot of the show with a lot of lens flares and jump cuts).

I didn't like how this kind of made Wolfe and Calleigh mean/unthoughtful at times. Yes, Wolfe had problems but was always trying to grow. What show was the author watching? (This coming from the person who likes Wolfe the least.)

Finally Horatio is the greatest and no one can tell me otherwise.

Recommended 17+ for rape, death, sex clubs (non graphic), personal investiagions, and language. (I told you to brace yourself.)

This is book 4 in the CSI: Miami tie in by Donn Cortez and in it Lt. Caine and his team face a very determined twisted killer. It starts with a young woman's body on a strip of land in the Everglades and sends Horatio and the team on a search for the truly bizarre...Latex, fetish wear, old movie costumes, dolphins trained for war, are just a few of the things Horatio, Eric, Calleigh, and Ryan become involved with to solve this case and stop a monster before he kills again.....

This is the first CSI: MIAMI title I've read by author Donn Cortez, and I truly enjoyed it. In my opinion, Mr. Cortez does a much better job than author Max Allan Collins at characterization and getting inside the minds of both the CSI players and the people involved in the particular case.

The plot line of RIPTIDE is strange but believable, with a perpetrator who is obsessed with a merman from an old film. The only thing that kept this book from being a 5-star read was the ending, which, although plausable, was too quickly wrapped up in only a few sentences.

This is the first CSI adventure I have read rather than watched and I really enjoyed it. The story had me hooked from the start (excuse the pun!!) and I read it in two sittings. The characters seemed really true to the ones on TV and I could imagine the story unfolding on the screen. Plenty of red herrings and just enough clues to keep you on the trail.

This is a really good book, but I warn you it is kind of gruesome. I read it in 4 days over Spring Break and I loved it, It is about 350 pages or less, so it is pretty long, but it is good! After you read it you can watch some of the CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) Miami episodes!

The best out of the lot Cortez has written. I still don't like the part where Calleigh calls Horatio H, or Horatio calls Eric by his last name. The names are very specific on the show (Yes I am obsessed). But the case in itself was nice.
It's the little things that annoyed me

Really fun read! Creature from the Black Lagoon fans will get a kick out of it. Just as good as any episode, but more "adult" - many of the scenes just couldn't be aired on tv.

I enjoyed this as a light read though i think some of the dialogue between the characters are strange and maybe works better in the series then the books.

A fun read, good for fans of the tv show. Sometimes I think I actually prefer the cases they come up with for the books than the telly, as I don't tend to be able to solve them as quickly!
