The O'Halloran brothers have a chip on their shoulder before finally falling in love. Never more so, than Christian O'Halloran. He was a mixed-up, immature (IMHO), 30-something man who did not deserve Mariah Douglas. There was not enough shoveling the grovel for my taste.
And I only kept reading only so I would have closure. I won't be returning to Hard Luck, Alaska.
My local library has the old Midnight Sons series by Debbie Macomber and I read the last three last night:
I liked this one the best because the hero was so clueless and the heroine tried to get over her crush on him, but never quite succeeded. It was worth the re-read.
I loved this book! Christian cracked me up! Everyone knew what was going on except for him. They make such a cute couple. I am excited to read the rest of the series. The storyline was wonderful.
He barely thinks she's pretty, whereas he's constantly thinking about how OW is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. He is reluctant to admit he even likes her, and the resolution was tepid because of the H's self-absorption.
THIS SUMMARY/REVIEW WAS COPIED FROM OTHER SOURCES AND IS USED ONLY AS A REMINDER OF WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT FOR MY PERSONAL INTEREST. ANY PERSONAL NOTATIONS ARE FOR MY RECOLLECTION ONLY
Since Christian helped bring women to Hard Luck Alaska he thought he could pick out his perfect secretary for Midnight Sons. He picked gorgeous Allison who stayed in Hard Luck for only a day. He then hired Mariah and since that time he has tried everything who could to have her quit, leave, or to fire her. To no avail. Mariah who is in love with Christian has not idea what to do with Christian. I have read that hate and love are similair to each other and maybe reading about Christian shows how you could be dumb enough to believe you hate someone when in fact the opposite is what is going on.
Debbie Macomber is such a talented author! She always does an amazing job creating realistic characters that people can somehow become really attached. Her Midnight Sons series is amazing!
Mariah moved north of the Arctic to fill a job position as a secretary working for the O'Hallaran Brothers. To Sawyer and Charles, she's an amazing secretary that can do no wrong. However, to Christian, she is a major klutz who is always losing files and can't ever seem to get his coffee right. He's been looking for a reason to get rid of her ever since he hired her.
I reread this because it always gives me that pull in the gut whenever the main character gets rejected by the love interest or whenever she remembers about needing to leave something she learned to love-- applies to both Hard Luck and the dumbest man on earth Christian O'Halloran. And it's short and easy to absorb, best thing to read when in a slump
Oh, the joy of holiday reads! To be honest the pace at which the couples in Macomber's books get hitched and start popping out babies is a bit too much to wrap my head around but it was fun and effortless to read.
I didn't like it at all. The hero was horrible to the heroine for a year, the whole time thinking about another woman and wishing she was there instead. He finally went out with the other woman, he was extremely attracted to her, but she talked about herself the whole time so he lost the attraction. In my opinion if she had just talked about him and stroked his ego, he would have still been attracted and went to bed with her.
The heroine was extremely weak and let him treat her bad. She didn't give other men a real chance because she was so set on him the whole year.
It did not feel like he was truly in love with her by the end. It felt like he was still confused but didn't want to lose her. Np.

I have been reading Debbie Macomber for years. She's my absolute favorite. But this book, I struggled to get thru. The O'Halleran brother this one is based on, is a complete and total jerk. He doesn't want anyone so he pushes and pushes Mariah away but then wants her close. He is a confusing man and needless to say character. He frustrated me more times than one. And had he been a real man, a real man I loved, he would have pushed me away for good but there would Not have been anything between us, ever. But it's a book and not real life. He still gets the girl in the end. I can say I've read it. I can say it will stay on my book shelf. However, I probably won't read again. Sorry, Debbie.

"Falling for Him" is the story of Mariah and Christian.
So we have been hearing about the klutz secretary who has been in love with the playboy hero for a while. In this book, we see him trying to fire her for no reason, dating multiple OW, pushing her to date OM, playing with her emotions and even at the very end, his confession came out of nowhere (he was lusting over OW until the last few chapters).
Mariah deserved more. Eat shi! Christian. Get an STD check.
Good read. Liked the story flow. Liked the characters and reading their individual struggles and how they work through them. Fun reading the back and forth issues between characters and finally realizing it is love. Sometimes you feel like you want to shake Christian. He is so conflicted and stubborn. Always a pleasure to read this author. Would recommend this book.
Debbie writes easy enough but these plots are almost ridiculous. Mariah works for him for a whole year, pinning for him, being clumsy around him. Christian hates her working there, wants her gone but brothers don’t. She finally starts an occasional date with other men before Christian finally realizes he might have feelings for her. Only good part was Mariah saving Ben with CPR.
I have been dying for Christian and Mariah's story since the moment Mariah stepped off the plane, so I was psyched for this book. It didn't disappoint-- full of humor and heart, just enough drama and a perfect conclusion. This was one of my favorite books in this series, and it was well worth the wait.
I love how Debbie Macomber makes you love her characters. I have to read another of the midnight sons series. This is book 5. I love how with each book you get to see what’s going on in the lives of the characters in the prior book in the series.
You know the ending from page 1, but that was comforting right now. What I like about this series is that its set in an isolated, small town where people make do and have a sense of community. Idealistic, but nice to escape to now and then.
I loved the entire Midnight Son's series. There is always a tear jerker ... Each book, the landing male character gives the leading lady a rough road to go but they don't realize their are madly in 💘...with each other
Fun, clean romance based in remote Alaska. It was instant attraction when Mariah sets eyes on her boss, but her flustered missteps have him irritated rather than pining for her. Each book can be read alone, but for the best experience, read them in order.
Christian is very oblivious and hard headed. Mariah has been in love with Christian since she met him. After working with him for a year and overhearing a conversation, she decides to quit so Christian can get his first choice. Christian gets advise from a 10 year old.
Watching Christian try to get rid of Mariah, who had a crush on him, made for an amusing read. When she finally resigned and left his business office, he began to appreciate her more. Debbie Macomber has been entertaining her readers for many years now, and I rarely dislike anything she writes.
The continuing saga of Hard Luck, Alaska. Familiar characters with forlorn love, tragedy, obtuse men not seeing what’s right before them, all ending in happily ever after. Debbie Macomber knows how the please the audience in the end. Intriguing, insightful, enjoying and delightful.
