A fast past romantic/suspense. Filled with secrets, twist and turns. I loved Jayda and I found myself anticipating the events in her life and wanting her to achieve true happiness. Most of the characters were likable, some were not so desirable. But overall I was left fulfilled by the time I finished Finding Jayda.
In the opening scenes of Finding Jayda I was nervous it was going to be a clichéd "woman fakes death to escape abusive boyfriend but intrepid cop and abusive boyfriend know she's faked her death and then find her in new life". Wow, that is so not this book. Finding Jayda is a compelling story with real characters and more twists and turns than one would think possible but it's all presented in a way that is credible. Samantha Johns does a wonderful job of weaving a story about the main character Jayda but also weaving a cast of characters and locales into the plot and sub-plots that demonstrate how good of a storyteller Johns truly is. Johns' ability to go deep into detail about the places Jayda finds herself moving through shows the depth of not only the work but the environment that Jayda finds herself in and - in turn - we find ourselves in. Plenty of drama without being melodramatic and an ending that allows no loose ends. Enjoyed this book tremendously!

Jayda Parrish is hoping for a change in her life. She has been in a long, abusive relationship with Carson Liddell for years. She works at a fuse factory and makes minimum pay. She has planned an escape from her life for a while but is just ready to put it into action.
She decides to fake her own death to escape her horrible life and start a new and better one. She moves to another city far away in hopes that she will be forgotten and can continue forward with her new identity. Unfortunately, there is a detective not willing to believe she is dead.
Chief Ben Foxx puts more effort than he should into Jayda’s case. Everyone in her hometown is certain that her low life boyfriend is her murderer. Foxx follows a trail that leads him in the right direction to find her. Foxx and his partner always seem to come to a dead end just when they think they have caught her, that is until one night several months later.
Jayda finds out about love, friendship, heartache, and self-preservation. She will have ups and downs in her journey, but in the end Jayda will find what she wanted the most.
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars!
The book started off with an edge of mystery. I was pulled into the story just after a few pages and already trying to assume what was going to happen. The story continued to please me as things I didn’t expect kept coming. The book progressed into all these wonderful stories and relationships that Jayda found herself in. It was adventure after adventure. I couldn’t wait to get to the next page.
I was ready to go into a suspenseful journey with these characters. When the story wasn’t suspenseful, it was full of wonderful life experiences for Jayda. Jayda was an awesome character. Here is this young woman who had been in a relationship full of abuse for years, yet she is determined to get out of it and make a great new life for herself. Although her new life is built on a foundation of lies, she tries to be as honest as possible as she moves forward with the new people she encounters and forms relationships with. Almost everyone she meets is drawn to her and comes to appreciate her in one way or another. These new bonds prove to help her in the end. I really loved the way the author showed all these characters’ appreciation for Jayda when she needed it the most.
This book kept me interested from the beginning to the very last page. The story line was original. The characters were great. This is definitely a book I will pull out and read again. I also recommend this book to anyone that is tired of reading the same old stories over and over again.
Wow! What a ride! This book was a true emotional rollar coaster all the way through, experiencing the many highs and lows of life as the titular character struggles with dealing with what life throws at her after a risky escape from an abusive relationship. The author masterfully shows us the fears, growth, healing, and hopes of Jayda, as she attempts to escape her past and embrace the possibility of a better life. I found myself being able to relate to Jayda, despite never being in any of her circumstances, or anything even remotely similar myself. She is not without her flaws, but isn't afraid to face them and own them. She is complex and believable, and you just can't help but understand where she is coming from and be sympathetic, even when you completely disagree with what she does. Great job, Ms. Johns, 5 stars!
At first this book seemed like just another typical romantic book. But that is far from the truth. There are some great twists and turns that you wouldn't expect. The book is quite long though. You can't read it in one sitting. The chapters are a bit long too but they are broken up into smaller sections that makes it easier to read. The overall book is well written and organized. If you are looking for a great read then this is the book for you.
I thought this book was amazing! It was such an emotional rollercoaster ride. All I wanted the whole time was a happy ending for Jayda. It was a long book but it never got boring. There was always a new twist waiting right around the corner. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone!
I really don’t have any idea how to start this, and out of all the books I’ve read and reviewed, ‘Finding Jayda’ is definitely the only one I have found hard to write. I have wracked my brain trying to think what to write without giving away any spoilers. But its bloody hard.
This book has so much that happens within is pages that it’s hard not to reveal anything, even by mistake.
What I will say is that Samantha has really delivered a magnificent story full of suspense, survival, love and friendship.
If you think that it’s a clichéd story of a woman running away from an abusive boyfriend to live happily ever, well you’d be completely wrong. ‘Finding Jayda’ is so much more complex and compelling than that; with so many twists and unexpected turns you are taken on a rollercoaster ride of journey with Jayda and all the characters within the book.
I was absolutely hooked as soon as I started reading this. It occupied all my time, my thoughts and had me staying up all night. I just had to keep going. There was no safe place to stop and take a breather; it was that all-encompassing.
Jayda Parrish is tired of living in fear with her abusive/alcoholic boyfriend and so decides to plan her escape. Faking her own death and making it look like her boyfriend murdered her, she runs. Using a new name, and making up a back-story she boards a bus in an attempt to start a new life.
But it isn’t as simple as that. The police are hot on her trail, with the leading officer refusing to close the case and determined to find her. She also didn’t expect to fall in love. But she does.
“I don’t understand it, but I feel almost like I belong with you and like I always have. That seems a little crazy, but it’s true.” ~ Jayda.
The only question is, can she really move on and live a much happier life? Will the police catch up with her and if they do, what will happen?
I absolutely loved Jayda, and thought she was such a strong and determined character. I was begging for things to work out for her and that she’d get the happy life she deserved. My heart ached for her but admired her bravery through everything she encountered. Although Jayda is the main character in this book and it is her story, all the other characters play just as big a part. I found myself liking a lot of them and their loyalty to helping Jayda in her new life. But there were also characters that I hated, and wanted them to get their comeuppance.
This is a standalone book, so there is no cliff-hanger or waiting around for a second book; and although it does have a happy ending, you can’t help but want to carry on with Jayda’s story as well as the other characters in the book. It’s a long book, but by hell it leaves you reeling, sated and pleased. You have to read this story. Honestly, you will definitely not be disappointed with it.

This book actually started out for me with my “bore hackles” up but I was very wrong. Jayda fakes her own death to get out of an abusive relationship with her cheating, alcoholic boyfriend. I really wasn’t expecting to enjoy that ride, but I did !! Very much so !! There are a lot of twist and turns as Jayda takes her new path, all the while being hunted down, by the police, her ex … her own emotional roller coaster. She meets some great people along the way. Jayda, on the whole, I didn’t care for, what I did like was how it all came together so nicely. I really liked The Detective, Ben Foxx. He was a strong Character for me and I just liked his tough, no nonsense attitude. I very rarely fall for a female lead. To be honest, they mostly annoy me, so this isn’t a personal thing about the character. Im just not fond of the females, for the most part. That being said, the author handled writing her in a wonderful manner that even I, the woman hater (haha)can appreciate. It didn’t take away from the book at all for me. I was actually pleasantly surprised with how this book took shape and continued to fluidly move through to the end. The Grammar and spelling are excellent and the flow of the chapters and characters is excellent. It is very very well written. The chapters were a bit on the long side, but it was written very nicely. For those into Christian type, suspense/romance, then this is absolutely worth every penny for you, and for those not, well, its still isn’t too bad for you either !!
Wow, what a harrowing and hopeful tale. I'm a big fan of Samantha Johns' writing, having loved all 3 books in her "Repentant Demon" trilogy, so I trusted I would find similar high-level plotting, story and character development in Finding Jayda. I was richly rewarded! The writing soars, and the character of Jayda is a winning, well-defined woman we come to relate to, root for and suffer with throughout the novel. Along the way there are great scenes including romance, courtroom drama, and relationship and family drama.
Her journey is a punishing one, and it wasn't long into it before I was wishing miracles upon poor Jayda. The author shows us is many small ways what it is like for a person to live with PTSD and to operate on the survival level while praying for more. I liked it that Jayda struggled because I really related to it, and it made her redemption so emotional. She fell into a shallow relationship without feeling truly connected to that man, but he had a profound impact on her life nonetheless.
Her self awareness and attempt to take care of her self added even more danger to herself. I see her as a heroine, trying hard to rid her life of snakes while finding her spirit and her way to grace and miracles. That's the real "finding" in the title, and it had me cheering loudly, even if I had to gasp and worry here and there along the way. Samantha Johns has done it again!
I was given a copy for free in exchange for an honest review.Jayda Parrish , is a middle class young women from St Louis, she finally decides to leave her abusive / alcoholic boyfriend to start a new life. A fast paced romantic/suspense filled with plenty of twists and turns, and secrets. I loved Jayda and i found myself anticipating what would happen next. I liked most of the characters some i didn't. I look forward to reading more books by Samantha Johns.
Wow! This book was amazing! I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. Finding Jayda was a little different type of read then I am use to but I absolutely loved it.
I was hooked right from the beginning. It starts with the police investigating whether Jayda's abusive boyfriend has killed her. It's clear that she has set him up to take the blame for her death while she runs away. I immediately thought that she would somehow form a romantic relationship with the police officer working on her case but that's not the directions this story went in. Finding Jayda is a great story that deals with a lot of things. It's full of twists and it has suspense and romance. The only things that I had trouble with was how long of a period of time had gone when certain things happened. The amount of time passing was a little unclear to me but it didn't effect my ability to enjoy the story.
Loved this book by Samantha Johns. From the first page until the last it held your interest. The characters were well thought out & kept you involved in what was going to happen to them. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Romantic/Suspense.
This is the first book I have read from author Samantha Johns and, to be honest, it is not the typical read I would usually go for. Like most bloggers we are given the chance to review and experience different stories from authors we would not normally try and, with this said, I am truly grateful to each and every author that gives us the chance to review their books. I have delved into many a story with my eyes closed (excuse the term) but so many of us only stick to one type of genre (me included in the past) and you can miss out on so many different amazing stories and authors, this book very much included.
So on to my review.....
Jayda Parrish, a middle class young woman from St. Louis has been in an abusive relationship with her dead beat alcoholic/abusive boyfriend, which is going no where fast, but Jayda has been cunningly plotting an escape to start a new life. She is so desperate to disappear for good, to be forgotten by her old life, that she fakes her own death. What she doesn't realise is that her life is going to change, but in no way is she prepared for the events that are around the corner and the decisions she makes are going to change her life in the most extreme way. I loved taking that ride with Jayda through these extraordinary events in her life.
It's so refreshing to read a story in which we have a beautifully written female lead character. Jayda was caring and sensitive but no push over that's for sure (a real trooper in my eyes). Always best foot forward, never taking the high road but always doing what was right, not just for herself but for everyone involved and that's why, for me, Jayda really took centre stage. I found myself cheering her on through the tough times (and hell, there where many) while crying at the sad times, shouting at no one in particular to just give her a break already!! Man, this story is tough but if Jayda can do it, I need to change into my big girl panties and read on.....
Through this story Jayda meets a lot of different colourful characters Some play a major part to how her life pans out in the end while others I didn't much care for, as their intentions where not good for Jayda and did not deserve to be a part of her life. This leads me to mention Mason, who is so not my typical leading hot alpha male but, to be honest, he was so sweet and endearing and oh so very old school that he stole my heart anyway. Which just goes to show that you don't need all steamy hot sex in a man to make your heart beat faster, but a man who can show you that he can protect you, look after you and love you!! Then, of course, the rest later *winks* We are only human after all!!
All that is left to say Samantha Johns has given us a beautifully written story with strong, well developed characters. A story that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions, suspense, thrills, romance and even a little unexpected magical mystery added to make this story is slightly more intriguing. The chapters were a bit on the long side for me personally but in no means does this spoil the reading experience. If your looking for a great, interesting read with twists and turns along the way, I definitely recommend Finding Jayda finds it way into you hands or on your kindle for your next good read.
Thanks to the author, I was allowed to read an ARC of this book for an honest review. This is an intriguing story that has many twists and turns along the way. The book covers quite a large amount of time and the main character, Jayda, faces many challenges during this time. This book covers a wide array of intense subjects, such as abuse, murder, Christianity, abstinence, prison, jury trial, pregnancy, PTSD and childhood cancer, just to name a few. Needless to say, with this many subjects occurring in one book, there is always something going on. You would think that this would be too many large things to cover in one book but the author does a good job of tying it all together. You find yourself pulling for Jayda in all of her troubles. The relationship between Jayda and Mason is a very sweet relationship and it was interesting to see a relationship where sex is one of the main focuses. This was an interesting book. I will give it 4 stars.
