J. Kenner (aka Julie Kenner) is the New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal and International bestselling author of over seventy novels, novellas and short stories in a variety of genres.

Though known primarily for her award-winning and international bestselling erotic romances (including the Stark and Most Wanted series) that have reached as high as #2 on the New York Times bestseller list, JK has been writing full time for over a decade in a variety of genres including paranormal and contemporary romance, “chicklit” suspense, urban fantasy, Victorian-era thrillers (coming soon), and paranormal mommy lit.

Her foray into the latter, Carpe Demon: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom by Julie Kenner, has been consistently in development in Hollywood since prior to publication. Most recently, it has been optioned by Warner Brothers Television for development as series on the CW Network with Alloy Entertainment producing.

JK has been praised by Publishers Weekly as an author with a “flair for dialogue and eccentric characterizations” and by RT Bookclub for having “cornered the market on sinfully attractive, dominant antiheroes and the women who swopn for him.” A three time finalist for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA award, JK took home the first RITA trophy awarded in the category of erotic romance in 2014 for her novel, Claim Me (book 2 of her Stark Trilogy).

Her books have sold well over a million copies and are published in over over twenty countries.

In her previous career as an attorney, JK worked as a clerk on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and practiced primarily civil, entertainment and First Amendment litigation in Los Angeles and Irvine, California, as well as in Austin, Texas. She currently lives in Central Texas, with her husband, two daughters, and two rather spastic cats.

Yeah, I know the premise was a bit nuts - woman decides to spice up her sex life because of bad results in Cosmo quiz? - but I was enjoying it until the woman decided to pursue the other guy for her career. You see I love plots where the unassuming guy is a real badass/dynamite in the sack (this is what I call the Clark Kent trope...quiet guy is really the man of steel underneath *wink, wink*) so this was working for me until the "heroine" sleeps with the guy (even though she decided he's too nice for her) and then decides she should really hook up with another guy for 'her career'. WTH? The whole premise of 'write a screenplay of your attempt to sex up your neighbor' so you can get a writing job didn't make ANY SENSE at all to me. I thought reality TV was unscripted? (Yes, I know they 'nudge' the contestants to behave in certain ways but it's not as if they actually write a script!)

That's when the author lost me and I stopped finding their antics funny.

It had my interest in the beginning, but then it seemed to go downhill. I love reading Ms. Kenner's books. This was just one of those books that didn't click for me.

Not really my sort of book, so I guess my opinion doesn't matter.

I can't even believe I finished this. I know it is Blaze and what to expect but I'd have preferred that Mike have his own legit story. Not sure why he liked any of these wackos.

Julie Kenner’s books are just such fun to read! I think the first book of hers I read involved superheroes on an other-worldly level (the Aphrodite series) and I enjoyed the frivolity and easy style of her writing. The Perfect Score brought me right back to that style.

I found Mattie likable and I even felt a connection with her – dating all the wrong men only to settle down with someone who turned out to be in no way the right man. Getting back out there is not easy and I have to give her credit for doing it on her own terms. When faced with staying in her same old boring life or taking a chance on an upgraded sex life – and perhaps that career opportunity she’s been waiting for – she jumps on the chance to make those changes. It’s a struggle for her but with the encouragement of her best friend and her sister, she pushes herself past her normal boundaries.

Mike is described as a geek but he has abs and he’s charming – not what I would normally describe as ‘geek-ish’ but it works here. There are several things that drew me to the character – he found Mattie’s slut search a challenge, he found the awkward things she did (like spilling a bag full of condoms and vibrators) endearing and, most importantly, he didn’t give up. Instead, he pushed on and fought harder. Yes, Mike is definitely a romance novel man.

While it seems a little shallow to have sex with a male model just to raise a score on an internet slut test, I can see where it could be a consideration for a woman who finds herself recently out of a boring, go-nowhere relationship. Of course, as readers, we know how the story is going to end and I loved the way Kenner looped it back around to the beginning.

So just for fun *ahem* I found a slut test on the internet. Okay, I found more than one and I took two different ones to weigh the results (and because the questions on the first one were just kind of dumb). On the first test I scored 58% – I’m not a full-blown slut but still a slut. The second one, which had more sex-oriented questions, brought my score up to 63%. According to the first site, the average slut score is 36% so I figure I’m double the average slut.

Favorite Quote: Clearly, I was out with the quarterback, and a tiny part of me wanted to melt into the floor. Because I’m so not the homecoming queen.

Terrible

Plot: F
The thought of the book intrigued me. But it drug on way to long. 84% in, and Mattie is still thinking about screwing Cullen in order to further her screenwriting career.. 93% in is where she has the 'i love you' epiphany. But I was done by then. Then she gets pissed when she finds out he knew about her plot. By then I was like F that b----,Mike. You don't need her.
Characters: F
Mattie is unlikable to me. She is leading Mike on, spending time with him, having sex with him. All the while planning to screw Cullen to up her points and further her career. I feel sorry for Mike because he was an awesome character. His thoughts were so complimentary towards Mattie. He is so smitten, and I loved it. He could've done better, especially after she blows him off to go out with Cullen. Mattie is an insecure mess, and I was done after she goes to a liposuction consultation in order to help her chances with Cullen. I could see doing it solely for herself, but to feel insecure because of a man, and take such drastic measures....no.
Heat: D
Mild heat, and not extremely detailed. Nothing, to me, that would help up her percentage points in the quiz. Since that damn quiz was so important.

Seriously ...

Who thought laundry rooms could change your view of everything ...

Yeah Dryers?

I am a complete Nerd, right down to my Star Wars references. I understand Maddie's obsession with scoring high on all tests no matter what the title. Also, I am a huge Mike Peterson fan from the start. She is infatuated with Cullin Slater and the object of helping her increase her score and get her career off the ground at the same time. The witty banter between Maddie and Mike kept me amused. But it was the intricate ways and descriptions of how she brought up her slut score that made me love .... OK lust for more. This is a nice piece of junk food that will inspire you to increase your slut score too!

Super fast, sexy read.

Man oh man I love a nice guy and Mike Peterson is one sexy guy hidden under his nerdish exterior.

I only wish that the test Mattie took wasn't called the "slut test" I wish the author named it the Sex Test (as the picture on the cover depicts) or maybe the Kinky Sex Test. It just implies that having hot sexual experiences is slutty. I don't know - maybe I'm being over sensitive about that but it just grated me the wrong way.

Otherwise this book was fantastic.

never-gonna-finish

Just never gonna finish this one. I read ahead and the sister falls in love with the hot actor-how freaking annoying and he grows a conscience. I know. I am being silly, but it just irks me. Good thing I was an only child.
