What's truly remarkable is that each story is as unique as the authors themselves, offering a spine-tingling array of thrills. The settings serve as the perfect backdrop for the ghostly, witchy, and otherworldly phenomena that manifest in each tale.

Since the first book in the Haunted series, the newest volume has been my go-to for ushering in the Creepy Season. Shadow Reflection delivers six intriguing tales to chill your bones and wriggle up your spine. The place settings: the slopes of Kilimanjaro, an Alaskan settlement, or the idyllic green peace of an old-growth forest, create tension or produce the illusion of safety from the start. Neither the perception of security nor reality can be relied upon. Those impossible things relegated to the locked closets of nightmares one wakes from with relief are happening.

Ancient power, psychological perspectives, or the vengeance-hungry dead reaching out from beyond the veil, Shadow Reflection is a perfect way to get your spooky season started. Bibiana Krall and Veronica Cline Barton provide some awesome recipes to accompany their eerie stories. Dive into Autumn and the Unknown with Shadow Reflection!

Things that bump in the night and hide in our subconscious but come out to haunt us on the cool autumn nights or the storms of summer. The peace of our sleep is disturbed as those thoughts we once locked away break down our resistance to dance across our dreams, and we are awakened by our screams.

Veronica and Bibbiana will unlock that door to entice you with bone-chilling accounts of the spine-tingling supernatural, ancient magic, restless spirits and whimsical Halloween hijinks. Are we lost as a species? Are greater forces at work to save us from ourselves by showing us the very worst we can be?
Within the covers of Shadow Reflections is a Cornucopia of tales where Veronica and Bibbiana tap into our greatest fears and even give us a few chuckles to lighten the mood. All are worthy of stories to be told on a cold Autumn or a Winter Eve. Their masterful work is guaranteed to get you looking over your shoulder, seeing things on the edge of your peripheral vision, and hearing whispers in the dark.
I could not put it down!

There's no better way to celebrate the Halloween kick-off season than by reading a copy of the fourth edition of The Haunted series by authors Veronica Cline Barton and Bibiana Krall. Shadow Reflection is a well-written, entertaining read that has you jumping at sounds and wishing for an extra light or two. This edition is aptly named, as it had me reading over most stories twice, unsure if I had actually read what my mind was processing. Kudos to both authors for the ability to have readers doing double-takes along with the characters. Let's just say that if you're a reader who enjoys immersive reading experiences, this is a book you'll love.

As in years past, I like to highlight my personal favorite story by each author. "Hijinks" by author Cline Barton is an absolute delight for those of us who live for the season between Halloween and Christmas. Full of little teases and references to every traditional holiday on the calendar, this tale was totally witty and charming. It also served as some fun cushioning before devouring my other favorite story. "Billy" by author Krall is a fantastic, traditional ghost story that leaves you looking over your shoulder. This author has a true talent for making ordinary things seems terrifying. In this case, scarecrows. After reading this story, the ones that I own will not be coming out of the autumn decorating box this year...for real.

Five stars and big thumbs up for Shadow Reflection! This is a highly recommended read for lovers of top-notch short stories and/or dark fiction.

Each tale is a haunting journey, drawing you into eerie worlds, where the supernatural feels tangibly real. What I love most about these stories is how they blend suspense with genuine emotion, making the characters' experiences feel deeply personal. The twists are perfectly timed, often catching me off guard and making me question what I thought I knew. Reading this anthology was a thrilling ride, filled with goosebumps and heart-pounding moments!

Shadow Reflection, Book 4 in The Haunting Series, is a marvelous collaboration with short stories written by Bibiana Krall and Veronica Cline Barton. Wow! I am so impressed with the blending of styles. These are not your typical hokey ghost stories. Each one is original, engaging, and kept me in suspense until the last page. I spent the last few evenings reading late into the night. They are eloquently written and plotted in each author’s unique writing style. I was enthralled with the storytelling and am now definitely in the Halloween spirit!

I loved that Ms. Krall’s stories were inspired by actual historical locations and figures that enhance her tales with authenticity. My favorite written by Ms. Krall was White Raven. I was thrilled to learn that the main character, Truda, was based on Gerturde (Truda) Benham, a real mountaineer and the first woman to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. A woman traveling alone in Tanzania in the 1930’s with roguish men, superstitious locals, wild animals, and a monumental climb is terrifying on it’s on, but adding the supernatural elements had me glued to the pages. The vivid details pulled me right into the scene. It was amazing to find out Ms. Krall is also a world traveler and mountain climber.

Ms. Barton adds her own signature brand of cozy mystery, wit, satire, humor, and glamor to her amazing stories. Mask was suspenseful and caught me totally off guard with a twisty ending I didn’t see coming, but my favorite of Ms. Barton’s was Hijinks. It is spooky and fun. Ms. Bartons’ vivid imagination created an unusual and entertaining story with a surprising twist on traditional holiday characters and traditions. It was a total delight, and I laughed out loud.

I highly recommend this perfectly blended collection of haunting stories.

I hadn’t meant it to happen. I didn’t have time to read another book. My “to be read” stack already reached heavenwards. However, I purchased SHADOW REFLECTION, took a quick look at the first story and “accidentally” started reading. That’s all it took. I was quickly pulled in and caught up in a net of delicious stories.

Ping-ponging between the enchanting tales of two delightful and masterful authors, I quickly became entranced. Sometimes, I enjoy the whimsical, sometimes a good ghost story, or a story that takes me to places I’d never dare to check out on my own. SHADOW REFLECTION covers all those bases. Its tales haunt the reader on many, many levels. And I loved them all.

Beautiful job, Bibiana Krall and Veronica Cline Barton. Your descriptions and characters are wonderful vehicles that transport the reader into the unknown. Sometimes, they lull you into a cozy, comfy feeling and then zap, they surprise or scare you! You come awake with a start and try to convince yourself it’s just a story, right?

Some of the stories give you an expanded view of the world and even the cosmos. None could possibly disappoint. Five stars and a hefty recommendation for this latest haunted book.

‘Shadow Reflection’ is Book 4 in ‘The Haunted Series’ by Bibiana Krall and Veronica Cline Barton, and unfortunately it is stated to be the final book in the series. That’s a shame, because I’ve read all of these short story collections, and I think this latest one might be my favourite.
There are six stories set (as with volumes 1-3) in various parts of the world where the supernatural is at play.
‘Mask’ opens atmospherically aboard a sailing ship in 1850, and the language is that of the historical period: “The planks of the deck creaked with soulful moans as the incessant waves lapped their serpentine onslaught up the sides of the ship.” ‘White Raven’ takes us to Tanzania, where big cats and “bad spirits” walk. ‘Flipside’ sees us in frozen country, while ‘Obelisk’ transports us to the ancient, dreamlike landscape of Chile.
‘Hijinks’ is a witchy, stormy tale set in the isolated village of Mountain Falls. ‘Billy’ rounds off the volume with a bogeyman: “What no one noticed… was a slippery shadow peeling itself from the frigid river and slipping into the woods.”
It’s all entertaining, spooky stuff. I read the whole book in a single sitting. Ideal for Halloween, and with some seasonal recipes thrown in for good measure.
