Alright, take two on this review!

This book features two asexual (ace) characters: one is clearly sex-repulsed, while the other is sex-indifferent. Although neither uses these specific terms to describe themselves, because the book was a bit confused what term meant what.

Quick Refresher:

"Sex-positive" or "sex-negative" describes someone’s general attitude toward sex and sexuality.

- Sex-negative: This perspective often views sex as something impure, forbidden, or strictly for procreation. People with a sex-negative view may also judge others with different orientations as morally wrong.

- Sex-repulsed: Here, you personally find sex distasteful or uncomfortable, but have no negative judgment on what others choose to do.

You can, technically, be both sex-repulsed and sex-negative, though it’s more common to find people who are sex-repulsed but sex-positive—meaning:
"I personally don’t want sex, but as long as it doesn't involve me, I’m happy if others enjoy it."

- Sex-positive: Having a generally open, accepting attitude toward sex and sexuality.
- Sex-favorable: Personally enjoying sex for individual reasons.

Additionally, one can make a distinction between sex-repulsed and sex-averse. While “repulsed” is the older term many aces grew up with, it’s also more intense than “averse.” A sex-averse person doesn’t want sex but might not feel as strongly as someone who is sex-repulsed. This book only uses "averse" briefly and then incorrectly switches to “sex-negative,” assuming it to be the same or similar, which - again - it's not, which is unfortunate. Which leads to a few sentences that read ... a bit rough.

Quote:

"You don't have to be sex-repulsed to be ace, Mandy", he says kindly, "You can be sex-positive."

End of Quote

Again, real shame, because the book does a solid job capturing the ace experience, and how it feels to be sex-repulsed.

Let's take Mandy for example. It’s clear from the story that Mandy is sex-repulsed. When she comes out to her best friend, she explains how she’s never wanted sex, how her ex-boyfriend broke up with her over it, and how—because she’s a succubus who needs to feed on sexual energy—she used to get blackout drunk to numb herself enough to get through sex for feeding purposes. When I read that for the first time, I was overcome by the urge to hug this woman. Especially later, when things get worse and she briefly considers being intimate with Darius. Telling herself that this time, surely, things would work out, because she genuinely cared for him. And yet, when the moment come, she paniced before things could go far.

The book does an excellent job exploring her struggle with being ace and reconciling it with her nature as a succubus, a clever and well-executed metaphor.

The romance itself is sweet and beautifully done, full of mutual understanding, healthy communication, and so. much. consent! It’s a joy to see. You love to read it. ;3

Final Thoughts:
I had a wonderful time with this book. It’s a lovely read.

A most intriguing romance story. Also a journey of discovery for a young woman struggling with her magic and her feelings. I found this to be most educational and also wonderful that there’s such inclusivity in this series. While this may not be your typical romance it is heartwarming and comes with a most welcome hea.

I received a free copy from the author through Booksprout and voluntarily reviewed it.

I was really excited for this one and I really enjoyed it. I just love this series with it's theme of acceptance. The stories are all very fun to read and this latest book was no exception. Finding Answers for Confused Succubi is about a succubi who struggles to recharge her magic. She meets Darius through her study group and when's she's looking for a cupid to help her with her problem, she runs into Darius again.

I liked reading about Mandy and seeing her figure things out about herself and her magic. I thought the asexual representation felt very well done. It was an interesting to read about how these two characters are ace and I thought it was a good fit for this series that's all about being yourself and acceptance. I like how Mandy and Darius are both asexual, but this book also shows there are different ways of being asexual. I loved how accepting these two are of the other and I really liked seeing them grow closer and figuring out what worked for them. I liked how supportive Darius was and how he helped Mandy figure things out. I also appreciated the way Mandy's problem with recharging her magic got resolved.

I also liked seeing some of the recurring characters from previous books as well as some new ones who will be main characters in future books. I really enjoy reading about Obscure Academy and the characters who study there as well as the different paranormal species. It was fun and interesting to learn more about succubi and cupids in this one and how their magic works.

To summarize: I really enjoyed this book. I just love this series with it's themes of acceptance and being yourself. It's a fun series with various supernatural species and lots of interesting characters. This book follows a succubi who struggles with recharging her magic and goes to a cupid for help. I really liked reading about Mandy and Darius. I thought the ace representation was well done and also showed how this varies from person to person as they both experience things differently. I really liked Mandy and Darius as a couple and how sweet they are together. Darius is so supportive and accepting of Mandy and I like how he helps her figure things out. I liked seeing more of characters from previous books as well as some new ones. I can't recommend this series enough!

This series has quickly become one of my favorite Greenwood series ever. I'm therefore always looking forward to the newest installment. This time I was even more excited. I absolutely love succubi and I was very curious what Greenwood was gonna do with them in this novel. Luckily BookSprout made it possible to grab an arc.

I absolutely loved this book and these characters. I think combining ace characters with a story about a succubus and a cupid is a stroke of genius. It not only makes it possible to explain being ace, but it also comes with its unique challenges, questions and doubts. Therefore both characters can grow and learn a lot in this story.

And it is quite a journey. How can you give relationship advice if you have no experience with dating and don't feel like being in one? How can you feed if your species feeds on sex, but you're asexual and your body shuts down whenever you try to feed yourself? Greenwood not only shows the struggles of these characters very well, but also eventually comes with satisfying answers and solutions.

I also really liked the relationship between these two characters and how the author showed the difference between sexual attraction and emotional attraction. I also liked how different both characters were, despite the fact that they were both ace. And despite the fact that they're both supernatural, I do think a lot of humans will recognize their struggles.

I can't wait for the next installment!

Mandy has increasingly been feeling distracted and dismayed. As a succubus, she feels broken because she’s not interested in sex, which her magic needs. Her friend, Evie, convinces her to go to a Cupid’s advice night to see if they can help her figure out what to do. When Mandy arrives to her appointment, she sees that Darius, a new friend in her study group is her advisor. Darius is able to understand Mandy because he is asexual and helps her learn to accept that part of herself. They also are able to find a way to fix her magical cravings without her having to do things that make her uncomfortable. Their emotional connection to each other also deepens as they spend time together leading to a romantic relationship.

Ms. Greenwood uses a delicate touch to write a moving story about a young woman grappling with her identity. Making it clear that asexual individuals all have different types of experiences and that Mandy & Darius are only some of the representations. Also emphasizing that feeling things differently than what others expect of you doesn’t make you broken or defective. As with all her romances, communication, respect, and healthy boundaries are all at the forefront. A sweet story that shines the spotlight on underrepresented people.

Mandy and Darius meet when they are in a group trying to understand Supernatural Psychology lectures. As the group introduces themselves Mandy tells then she is in competitive cheer and she is a succubus. Darius is a cupid and a first-year psychology student. He jokes that he doesn't what he does as long as it's away from his family arguing about what they want him to do. Darius is in another group of cupids and they have gotten the go ahead for advice sessions for students. Mandy as a succubus has a particular problem and that's feeding her magic side. She doesn't know what to do about it. She talks to her bff and gets told to talk to the cupids. Will Darius or any of the other cupids be able to help her with her problem? Being a cupid or a succubus have interesting problems will they be able to help each other?
A cute story in this continuing series.

I am such a fan of Greenwood and this series. Obscure Academy's culture and development is amazing and this book continues to expound on the groundwork laid by the previous books. Mandy was previously a secondary character and I was happy to see her get the spotlight. She struggles with not enjoying intimate touch. That's an issue as she's an incubus and requires it to feed her magic. UGH!!

Darius is a Cupid in her psych class study group. He's drawn to her, but not necessarily physically since he's assexual. (This book does a nice job of explaining some of the different sexuality options.) When things for Mandy reach a critical point, she eventually asks Darius if he has any ideas or solutions. Will they be able to find an answer for Mandy's problem? Discover what happens during their search for answers.

Our hero and heroine make an awkward couple, but that is experience and nothing more. Once they get a bit more comfortable, they click in the most delightful way.

This is part of a series, but it is written as a standalone, so no prior reading is required.

The story is a paranormal romance with an academy setting. The story is well written and easy to read with a couple of fun characters as our leads. A request for help provides the impetus for our characters to really get to know each other in this unusual romance. Overall, this one was rather light and entertaining, which was perfect for a relaxing read. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Highly recommended.

‘A cupid with romance problems?’

I’ve read many a series by this author and have been very impressed by how she handles new adult sexuality. Coming from someone who is considered to be conservative, I appreciate how respect for boundaries (of all kinds) is incorporated throughout. Many concepts in this book apply IRL and I think are important for our youth to know and to have some level of comfort with them: break-up safety, consent, dating advice, emotional versus physical attraction, full disclosure, peer pressure, seeking answers, trauma, vulnerability, etc.

Asexual representation is very hard to find in books, so I was very happy to hear that this book would have an ace main character. I liked that even though she was a succubus, the author made it clear that there is nothing wrong with her for being ace. I also liked how the author explained that asexuality is a spectrum, as usually, ace people are depicted as being sex-repulsed, as well as aromantic. It is important to note that you can be asexual while also feeling romantic attraction, and vice versa.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and can't wait to read the next one (especially because it has fairies!).

“I've just never considered the fact that I'm not broken or weird.”

Mandy needs to feed her magic, but the only way she knows how to do so is the last thing she has the time or desire to do while focusing on school and cheerleading.

Darius is a Cupid who may be great at knowing what the relationships between others are, but that doesn’t mean he’s looking to be in one himself.

This done in one quick read centers not just on getting to know, understand and accept ourselves, but more than that, having in our lives those who accept and appreciate us as we are.

I was gifted with a copy of Finding Answers For Confused Succubi and chose to share my though.

This is the 10th book in the “Obscured Academy Series.” Darius is a cupid and he is taking classes in psychology. Mandy is a succubus and she is asexual. Both Darius and Mandy are attending Obscured Academy. Mandy is having problems with her magic because she is not feeding her succubi and she does not know what she is to do. Someone suggests that Mandy talk to the cupids and Darius is a cupid. When Mandy talks with Darius he is the one that can help her and the two begin spending time together. Darius is there for Mandy and he helps her with her magic. These two are great together.

this particular book is interesting since the two students navigating student life and the personal lives are both portrayed as individuals who might be understood to be asexually oriented , yet both are paranormals species typically connected to love or lust

searching for solutions in much the same way as the vegetarian ghoul student poses atypical challenges

I really enjoy how the author shares challenging perceptions and ideas in the characters of appealing young people

sensitive and kinda sweet negotiating young adult life

A very intriguing romance. Mandi needs help and doesn’t know what to do. Her friends convince her to a cupid advice time, can it help? Darius understands her and is able to try and find ways to help her. I liked that it emphasized that just because you feel things differently doesn’t make you broken. I enjoyed their journey and was happy to see they found a way to help Mandi fuel her magic, her way. I recommend you read this cute story. I really liked this one of the series because it portrays Mandy (succubus) and Darius (Cupid) as asexual but I think what it was is they were really romantics and they were just waiting for the one or fated mate they we all look for in this world to truly feel the spark or chemistry as some people like to call it. Mandy and Darius really skirted around their feelings and it felt so good to see the progression between the two.

Love and Friendship

Another great, heart-warming romance, continuing the Obscure Academy series by Laura Greenwood. Can be read as a standalone.

Mandy is a succubus and she needs sex to feed her magic, but she's not interested. Her friend persuades her to go a to cupid's advice evening for help and here she runs into Darius, a new friend from her lecture group. He understands her problems and they work together to find a way to fix her magical cravings in a way that's comfortable for her.

This is a sweet slow-burn, friends to lovers romance. Darius is an ace cupid and Mandy is a succubi with a problem. But they already are friends before she turns up looking for help and discovers he's the cupid on duty. I love how understanding Darius is and patient. Mandy isn't sure what she is and how she feels but she's got some great friends and support. And her and Darius are so lovely together as friends and more. It's a really great read.

Another great book in this series, I am being educated as I had not heard of ace people before. As usual the book is tastefully written exploring the feelings of both a succubus and a Cupid. We meet familiar characters and some new ones that I am sure we will get to know later. An interesting setting with good world building. Quick easy read.

Different strokes for different folks.
A very interesting point of view regarding sexuality and all its trappings. I like the ideas this story presents and how close and comfortable Mandy becomes with herself. Darius offers a lot of help and understanding and it looks like they could become a thing! A good story for as young tweens learning about themselves. Really like this series!

That was such a sweet journey of self-discovery, and an amazing story of self-acceptance. The issue that Mandy’s having was not something I had any real concept for, so this was fascinating for me to see the way the author handled it here. Also, the way Darius approached it from a different angle gave me added perspective on the situation. I loved these characters and I just wanted to cuddle them up in the end.

Did my charming cupid just walk into my life? I wish...
Mandy wasn't looking for him exactly. Darius is a student at the campus they are attending & meets him in a study group. She thinks he's kinda cute & ends up kissing him. Can Darius & their relationship help her by finding the answers she is looking for? Like why does she still feel so confused...
I found that this story was a really good one just like the rest of the series....

Book ten in the Obscure Academy and to date I would say this was my favorite. Cupid Darius and a very confused Succubi Mandy meet when she goes to him for help. The story has unique issues for this couple, with drama, twists and turns and finding out what they can and can not do and how they can work as a pair. I would say do not miss this story if you have been following this series. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Recharging Her Magic

This lighthearted and engaging story was well written and well developed as its characters brought the words to life. Despite the paranormal and magic aspects to this book, it felt very relatable. I really enjoyed the support that Mandy and Darius have for each other as they developed into something profound and deeper than they thought they could.

Tender.
Tender moments that are raw. This story is an incredible unique in its asexual subject. Wanting companionship without all the demands is perfect for Mandy a succubus who doesn’t like nor want sex but needs to find her magic. Having a Cupid like Darius support and help her find a solution is beautiful. Not just a friend but available to help her in any way just made me like this book.

The Answers Aren’t What You Expect
Mandy is a Succubi who is having a hard time with her Succubi magic. Darius is a Cupid who feels the same way about sex as he feels about broccoli. The way these two meshed was both perfect and unique - both are asexual, so there’s an additional element to their relationship. As always, I loved seeing characters from previous books popping up. A great and unique read.

I am really enjoying how the author introduces diverse sexuality to young adult readers, particularly in how it contrasts with what is expected of Mandy's and Darius' species and of young adults in college. What a great way to teach young adults to just "be you"!
