FATE HAS AN IRONIC SENSE OF TIMING...

Hardened ex-hitman Peter Black is back working the dark corridors of the CIA. It just so happens that fate has an ironic sense of timing. His first week back coincides with the unleashing of a cataclysmic virus that plunges the world into unparalleled turmoil. The sole antidote hides in a secret lab hidden beneath Sudan’s burning desert. But with the country on the verge of civil war, the CIA’s initial extraction mission fails, losing the vital cure in a maelstrom of savage violence.

As the clock ticks and desperation grows, Peter is thrown into the conflict’s raging heart, racing to retrieve the cure while evading deadly threats. I enjoyed the previous books though I think #5 was a significant drop in quality compared to the earlier ones.

But this. What the heck? Feels like it was written by an entirely different author.

Also, entire SCENES are stolen right from the classic movie The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. It can sometimes be a bit charming with some references to things like that but it feels like entire chapters are more or less copy/pasted from the script and just "modernized" a bit. Spoilers follow:

Maybe I am overreacting a bit here but there's a fine line between homage and plagiarism and the author(s) here just stomped right across it and are comfortably far on the wrong side of it IMO. Embarrassing.

A little drawn out with Peter facing death in every battle.
And the fate of the world rests on a child with the serum caught in a country's internal war and the US:
* only has 1 person trying to find and extract her over the course of a few days. Chuck Norris apparently wasn't available.
* US is afraid to send in any help for extraction because of a 3rd world internal war, even if the fate of the world is at hand. Really??? And to make it better/worse they send only 1 helicopter with 2 people. Guess the full force of our military wasn't available. Painful to read this play out.

A new but more lethal Covid

Peter is tasked with finding a missing undercover CIA agent. Unbeknownst to Peter, his real task is finding a young girl who has a lethal disease injected into her, a disease that she is immune to. His task is endangered b an old nemesis, Timmy, who is now a Russian agent. The Russian is bent on killing the girl to stop her from becoming the antidote to the disease released by the Russians. ENJOY!

Then he finds out Tommy (Hunter) is involved on the Russian side. So it becomes a contest between both to get Leila to America!! The Rat saved his life twice and no one will know! Absolutely fantastic!!! 20 stars plus!!!! Thanks, Carl Clause

OMG. What a phenomenal read this was. This had all the action and tension we have come to expect from this series, once again glued to every page. But for me , this felt so real , given the history of the area that the action was set.

A masterful piece of action thriller suspense.

Wholeheartedly recommend this for your reading pleasure.

Exciting series. Continual places of danger and escape

This series is exciting with so much action. The different countries make that more interesting. I am no good with names so I often skip trying to pronounce them. The story was good enough to keep turning pages til the end. Keeping previous characters showing is good even if it BB the bad guys.

Whilst this was certainly action packed and kept me turning pages, I felt that the whole reason for the mission (a new virus threat to the world) was glossed over at the end. If you're happy to read the book for the thrill and excitement of the action, then it's certainly enjoyable.

reality stinks

The enemies of America never stop trying to destroy everyone and everything around us. What we ask of our people to safely secure our lives goes beyond comprehension.
This is such a story- fictional yet scarily nonfiction.

Worse one yet

I think I’m gonna give up with the series. Way too much fluff. Peter the master assassin is beaten in ability by the rat and “he’s not beaten yet” is like a chorus. Bye Pete

I hadn't read anything by this author before, so maybe that explains a lot. I expected to learn more about the toxin the Russians were cooking up, but all I learned was how many martial arts Peter was an expert in, and how well he and The Rat could fight.

The good, the bad, and the ugly

The author needs to give full credit to Sergio Leone of spaghetti western fame since he stole many of the elements of his story directly from the above referenced movie.

Thought provoking and frightening....

In a world filled with tumult and hostility, there is an ever increasing need for the services of those elite operatives who can steer the helm to safety and a facade of "normal" for the masses. Such is the life for Azrael.....Solid 5+ stars!

Unrelenting Suspense

Really was enthralled by the developing characters. The bad guy turning out to be the good guy was certainly engrossing.

Not up to par

Too many twists & turns, ups & downs & way too much graphic descriptions of villains & violence & too many good guys killed.

Crap

A lot of words and lack of story. Hyperbolic nonsense . Could have been told in half the time and in a lot better language.

Agree with other reviews, a step up from the last book. Action pretty relentless. 'The Rat' a good characters, your love of him changes throughout.
