The Witch…

Nine years ago, I killed my brother, and I’ve been running from my past ever since.

I find a home in Darkwood, finally safe from those who hunt me. But no matter what I do, the darkness keeps pulling me in.
I allow my shadow magic to edge closer to the surface to feel something, anything. But no matter how much I want to embrace the power, I can’t. My magic thirsts for violence but I won’t let it kill again. It remains dormant... until he shows up.
A masked man watches me from the mirrors, stalking my dreams.
He haunts me, unraveling my thoughts until I’m not sure what to believe. I move closer to the edge and I’m afraid of what I’ll become if I let him in.

I can’t lose control. If I do, then I’m already dead.

The Demon…

I’ve spent a century trapped in the Shadow Realm, a purgatory created for me and my demons.

I watch the humans through mirrors, waiting for the moment I can find a way to leave and return to my domain. But I never found a way. Until now.
She’s everything I’ve been waiting for. The last descendant of the only bloodline that can free me.
I stalk her from the shadows, watching her every move. Her dark magic calls to me, craving for me to unleash it.
The closer she draws to the shadows, the more she’s within my grasp. Obsession takes over, pulling me into her world.
If she won’t unleash her power, then I will make her.

Corrupting a soul has never felt so good.

The perfect spooky season read!

Tropes:
~ Dark romance
~ Paranormal romance
~ Demons/Witches
~ Stalker romance
~ Enemies to lovers

These two authors are great on their own, but wow when you put the duo together -- they absolutely SMASHED it. Great job CM Hutton & Rebecca Garcia!

The world building, the mystery, the plot.. ugh it was pure magic! Did I mention the SPICE? Completely blown away by this one!

If you like men in masks, the MMC in this one will have your panties melting RIGHT THE FUCK OFF. This man is literally trapped in a shadow realm and is visiting the FMC in her dreams! He is completely obsessed with her and it is SO HOT.

Corrupt Shadows is a very sexually explicit romance story about a demon and a witch that ends on a cliffhanger. Evie is the last of her line of shadow/death witches and is on the run from the Order, a group of priests that aim to hunt witches, and especially dark witches like her, to extinction. Lorcan is a demon who was trapped by her predecessors in the Shadow Realm - a realm that mirrors our world exactly and that can see into our world through mirrors. Determined to get access to Evie, and her magic, in order to get free of the Shadow Realm, Lorcan begins to stalk Evie through the mirrors in her world. He intends to use her to free himself, but can't stop the obsession he has with her from growing. Evie intends to hate the demon that stalks her, but can't deny that his darkness calls to hers. Is he the first partner who could align with her darkest desires and not judge her for it?

There was a lot I liked about this! I loved Evie's familiar, a fruit bat named Gomez, and the softness that Lorcan had for Evie's magic and for Gomez. This was a fun, Halloween-y read that felt perfect for late September. I think I am maybe not 100% the target audience for this book - I am not as big of a fan of really ~dark~ romance, and having sex in the blood of your enemies doesn't really do it for me. Based on other reviews, this book seems to have really worked well for some people, but some of the violence left me feeling a little sad. I get that the main characters are full of ~darkness~ or whatever, but it was still difficult to read what happened to some of the side characters. I definitely had empathy for both main characters and they had fabulous chemistry together, but I wish they had talked more. It seemed like this book established that they had a lot of shared kinks and chemistry, but I'm not sure that I bought their transition from that into something more like love. Like...do they know anything about each other? He knows she has a bat and likes to be dominated? Idk, I wish there had been just a little bit more of a foundation for their relationship.

All in all, I enjoyed this one! It was cool to read a book that started as a kickstarter campaign. The book definitely needs some further editing before publication, but I trust that will happen :)

Thanks so much to Rebecca L. Garcia, C.M. Hutton, and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for this ARC. Corrupt Shadows will be available October 1st and would be a fabulous Halloween read.

“Corrupt Shadows” is a dark, fast-paced fantasy romance that blends magic, intrigue, and morally gray characters. The plot follows a complex web of betrayal, power struggles, and forbidden lust, keeping you on edge as they navigate a dangerous world of secrets. The main characters are flawed but compelling, drawing you into their emotional turmoil and complex dynamics.
It’s spicy, hot, twisted, funny, and very entertaining - can’t wait for the next one 👏

Oh boy.

This book had been on my list for a few months now but I’ve been seeing more marketing for it and I was intrigued. But boy was I wrong. I have read one other book by Rebecca L. Garcia and this is my first exposure to CM Hutton.

The pacing is slow. Like seriously barely anything is happening outside of the “spicy” scenes which tbh if I’m not invested in the story, do not make the story better. I spent most of this book skimming. Like how can a death witch and king of the demons book be so boring. I found myself putting this book down more than picking it up and even when I picked it up I forced myself to keep reading in hopes of it catching my interest. It did not.

About 20% or so of each chapter is just repeated information. “He hates her for what her family did to him. But he’s in lust with her so he hates her more for making him lustful towards her. He wants to scare/kill her but not too soon since she’s the key.” “She’s scared of her powers. She’s a killer. She’s killed before and will likely kill again. She’s lonely and craves connection BUT NO she can’t have connection because she will kill people unconciously.” Like I’m literally so bored. Like I said I’m bored and a lot of it is getting repeated so I skimmed.

The actual writing was not very well done. Like I said, the content wasn’t very engaging. Lorcan has very many moments of like the classic “villain” monologue explaining his reasoning for revenge and the plan he has set in motion to get that revenge. It makes him less of an actual villian and more like a caricature.

This is more a commentary on the formatting.

Why would an author/a pair of co-authors put the content/trigger warnings in the back of the book? Especially putting it back there without an author’s note to go to the back of the book to check it out? I feel it’s the author’s job to inform their readers on what they are about to read and trust that the reader can determine whether, after reading the content warnings, the reader should continue. By not being upfront about the contents of your book you’re potentially putting your readers in a position where your writing could harm them if they are not aware.

If the content warnings are at the beginning (or there’s a note to go see said content warnings whether it’s a link to a website or where the content warnings are) and a reader chooses to disregard them that is no longer the author’s problem. They did their due diligence. But the fact is there’s no mention of content warnings unless you look at the table of contents, and many people don’t look at that.

The characters were very shallow and 2 dimensional. Their lust driving like 80% of their actions. Which again is boring because there’s no substance, nothing to keep you engaged in between the lusty scenes.

There were so many editing issues that it was hard to ignore. Specifically several grammatical errors.

This feels like the authors got together with a list of popular tropes and a highlighter and wrote a book that is trope driven rather than writing a good book and the tropes happening naturally.

Overall this had an interesting premise, but boy was the execution fumbled BAD.

🐸 ☕ ARC copy very kindly gifted to me in advance 💚

It kicks off with a bang. Pun very much intended. Evie has blown up her brother Caden with her death magic, and somehow it manages to all get worse for her from there.

“I long to feel something. It’s why I come to the abandoned asylum on the edge of town. The violent energy left behind by the lost souls of cannibals and murderers writhes with my shadow magic, enhancing every touch.” Yes, our Evie is very much not okay. But I do find Evie a likeable character. She is a little bit like Wednesday Addams but if Wednesday was raised by radical Christians and worked in a diner. I did have this thought before I found out Evie had a pet bat called Gomez, I swear. Evie is funny and I do root every time for the overpowered gal who is trying to keep her dark powers in check. Also Gomez the bat is definitely my favourite side character in the book. The others I didn't think were particularly fleshed out. Rosa was there more for comic relief than anything else it appeared. As for Aiden and Jay, they were both fairly beige.

I also quite liked the magic of the world and how it worked. In fact, it was the thing I really wanted more of. The concept of how the magic came about was really interesting, and I loved what we found out about the intricacies of death magic, shadow magic, and the weaving in of the deadly sins. But this is definitely a romance book with fantasy supporting it, and not the other way around.

My problems with this book I think are just that it’s very much not for me, so it feels hard to critique. There is definitely spice and spice that some will love and I'm sure there will be many big fans of this book, but had me uncomfortable. I really can't stand when a character who has been set up as being abused in the past, and then has her sex life in the book correlate directly with the specifics of how she was abused.

Overall, I think this is one for the Twilight people who thought "you know, I wish Edward had been a little more controlling".

Oh…wow! First thing, please, read the trigger warnings before embarking on this journey! This is a dark, messed up, story. As in, the characters are super dark and messed up, and do a lot of dark and messed up things. If you can’t separate that from real life, or don’t want to read something like that, this book isn’t for you. That said, I enjoyed this a lot! Corrupt Shadows follows Evie, a witch with both shadow and death magic. The book starts off…intensely, let’s say. And it doesn’t get less intense from there! Evie has a demon, Lorcan, stalking her. He is trapped in the Shadow Realm, and Evie is his only way out, and his chance at revenge.

Evie is a very complex character. She’s deeply traumatized. Her family was slaughtered when she was a child, and she was taken in by a witch hunter who really messed her up, all in an attempt to “save her”. It had big gay conversion therapy vibes honestly. He tried suppressing her magic, but it made it uncontrollable, and she does something by accident that causes them to come after her, and only messes with her poor psyche more. It has long lasting effects, and more than one person is hurt because of it. She’s self medicating to keep her magic at bay in present day, and wow, if this wasn’t the most relatable part of her. Self medicating to deal with suppressed issues, or mental illness you’re trying to suppress, is so common and understandable. It made me soften toward Evie, so when she got into some of her more…evil leaning behaviors? Let’s go with that. I couldn’t stop sympathizing with her. This was definitely written very well to keep you on board even as she toes a messed up line.

This is only increased when she meets Lorcan. He has a lot of issues himself. He was similarly traumatized, in addition to being betrayed and tricked and caged at various points in his life. Stuck in the Shadow Realm, he’ll do anything to get free and get back to Hell or the Human realm. Evie is his ticket, but her suppressing her magic makes things difficult. And when they meet, the two have serious chemistry, and their messed up edges fit together like two puzzle pieces. I definitely felt for Lorcan. He does deplorable things, but everything he’s gone through would cause a lot of trauma that would affect anyone. It definitely felt like everyone has been against him his whole life, and he’s now a fractured person—demon, because of it.

There are several great supporting characters. None more so than Evie’s familiar. A fruit bat named Gomez, who is absolutely adorable! The way he interacts with everyone is so great. His hostile relationship with Lorcan is definitely one of my favorites though. It’s hilarious. Rosa is Evie’s best friend, and a sex therapist. She’s a very colorful character—literally! She wears a lot of colors compared to Evie and Lorcan, but she’s also got a colorful personality. There’s a few others who are interesting, but also some characters we don’t really get much on yet. Namely, Lorcan’s brothers. I’m hoping we find out more about them and their motivations next book!

The plot is interesting to follow, as Lorcan tries to lead Evie where he wants her. And she seems to be falling into his trap. Except that the relationship between the two is very unexpected to him. It is what lends the twists and turns we need, along with his brothers, who helped Evie’s ancestors trap him, and the Order of witch hunters. The two of them end up trapped together, and the relationship progresses to a point that Lorcan begins coming up with ideas for how to move forward. I loved his struggle as much as I loved reading their relationship. It’s so complex and messed up, but also has a very sweet undertone. The two of them have been without someone to truly care for them for so long. Watching them both soften made me really root for them to be there for each other.

Inevitably though, things go wrong. His brother is just the worst, and he has the worst timing! The climax leaves Evie in quite the spot, and Lorcan no better frankly. I need to know where this goes next book! The ending leaves us on a cliffhanger, and I hope it’s one easily resolved, but these two never seem capable of easy when it comes to anything. The information Evie found out also needs to be handled, and I’m really looking forward to that conversation! I also just really want Evie and Lorcan together. The smut in this is excellent, and I definitely need more from them!

I received an eARC of this a bit early when I purchased the kickstarter package.

this was…wow 😂 i got an arc of this from the kickstarter campaign, not knowing anything about the authors or the book, but i really enjoyed it!

🦇 this may contain spoilers so please read with caution 🦇

check the tw because things get….wild

Lorcan(H) is one of Lucifer’s sons (the demon of Lust🤤) and he was trapped in the shadow realm by his brothers and one of Evie(h)’s ancestors that he trusted so he’s made it his mission to get revenge and be free but he didn’t know the kind of power Evie had.

okay….for this big bad scary shadow man….he is surprisingly sweet 🥰🥰🥰
like when he shadow pierces her lady bits while she’s sleeping but he sanitizes it first 🫣
or when he tattoos her chest to say “mine”
or when he’s chasing her but sets mood music 🤭
or when he’s singing to her 😍
or when he gets jealous that she’s dreaming of his shadow self fucking her ☺️
or when he gets jealous because he thinks she’s having a sex dream about his evil brother but really the brother is choking her and she just likes to be choked….. relatable 😂
or when he kills her lover because….jealousy
or how he says he hates Gomez but still feeds him and makes sure he’s safe 🥹
or how he helps train Evie to use her shadow powers.

also evie using her shadows to choke him during sex was 🥵🤤

the only thing NOT romantic was that he may or may not have had SOMETHING going on with her aunt (whom she is named after) but it ended on a cliffy so i don’t knowwwwwww and i need to know!

there are OM sex scenes but i didn’t mind it because i KIND OF felt bad for him. he wanted more from her and she just wanted sex 😂😂😂😂 as it should be because he also didn’t accept her for who she was and tried to change her….and then he died so 🥴🤭 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lorcan hasn’t had any action for years…and i also love that 😂

the ending had me STRESSED OUT but i really liked this and i can’t wait for the next one.

ps i need the aunt thing clarified in the first three sentences of book two kthnx😘🥹

pps i loved gomez and if anything happens to him i’ll riot 😘

ppps can we stop using mushroom head to describe a peen because it makes me giggle 😂

“God can’t reach you here, killer.”

This book was so incredibly fun. The magic Evie possessed was new and refreshing to watch her explore. Evie, as a whole, has to be one of my favorite FMC I’ve read so far — she’s sensitive and emotional, but at the same time; guarded, aggressive and occasionally selfish. As readers, it’s rare to be able to experience a character (especially female), who have “unlikeable” traits as being selfish. Seeing it made her character so much more enjoyable and relatable to me.

I loved not only Evie, but her friends and companions introduced along the way. I won’t say too much, to avoid any spoilers, but I hope that a particular character’s powers are also explored and developed in later sequels!

Lorcan’s exploration and ‘growth’ over the course of the book was slower than I first anticipated— which was a very good thing for me! Again, I won’t spoil anything, but you see a lot of “bad misunderstood MMCs” redeem themselves too quickly in most of romantasy books lately. When I say I want the villain, I want the villain. He was a fun POV to read, and I enjoyed reading both his and Evie’s throughout equally!

The one “negative” note I would have to add to my review, and it could be entirely me not absorbing the text fully, is that there were times I was definitely confused with the setting and the dynamics of it. Firstly, I do want to say that the idea and most of the execution with the mirrors and the demonic world was great. I got tripped up a few times with the explanation of things and what was happening to the world as I was reading. That, however, didn’t impact my read much at all and I still enjoyed this book incredibly.

I can’t wait for book 2!

This book is seriously a Dark Romance Lovers Dream! I could not put it down! It is so well written with a great story line and keeps you begging for more! It has everything! Super spicy/sexy! Super Dark! Heart Wrenching! Twisted! Unapologetic! And just flat out Fabulous!
Evie, our FMC, is the last descendant in her family of a long line of Witches that have both Shadow & Death Magic. She has a very tragic past and is on the run trying to hide her identity and what she truly is in hopes for a semi normal life. She works hard to suppress and hide her powers to not only keep those around her safe but to also stay hidden from those that hunt her. And she’s doing pretty well until a dark and disturbing Demon named Lorcan finds Evie and starts stalking her in hopes to use and manipulate her to break his curse of being locked in the Shadow Realm, a curse placed on him by none other than Evie’s Witch ancestors, so he can once again walk the Human World and go back to Hell!
Evie’s world is again turned upside down and she’s losing control! So intense and captivating! It really gives all the feels! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, holding my kindle tight lol! CM Hutton & Rebecca L. Garcia are AMAZING writers! I need book two! I need to know what happens next!
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this book ends on a cliffhanger,
be prepared!

After finally picking it

There was cool elements to this book like the masked MMC, the bat familiar, the tattoos and some of the spice was definitely 💯 but then other parts I didn’t like…I have definitely found my dark romance limits in this one that’s for sure. This is definitely not for the weak 🫡.

Was really anticipating reading this for a while now and was excited to finally read it. I absolutely love the chapter header art and even preordered a SE of this book. However, no one is more disappointed than me to have to dnf this book. It definitely has potential overall but just felt flat and was unable to feel invested in the story enough to want to continue and often time found myself skimming to get ahead. Might give it another attempt at a later date.

This needed editing. For the amount I paid, I am actually disappointed in this. Yet again with Hutton, this isn't dark romance. This is just erotica. And the grammar and writing is so bad, it reads like a first attempt at writing that the authors just ran through grammarly or prowritingaid.

Just bad all around, and such a waste of money. If you want erotica that has cringey dialogue, bad bad bad characters who just are walking cliches, then this might be for you. But if you want something more creative and unique, these aren't the droids you're looking for. You're better off elsewhere.

Talk about DARK romance, this is nothing but that. It started off with the FMC being a witch suppressing her dark magic and accidentally kills her “brother” (she’d adopted). She runs away and for years she kills another four more people. She’s a sex addict with a pet bat. The story revolves around her and her use to free Lorcan from the mirror that blocks him from getting into the human world because her ancestors locked him in there.

♥️Stunning cover

I felt like I liked the plot, but I think I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. I had wanted to enjoy it a little more than I did, but I think I couldn’t see past alllll the smut happening where I felt there wasn’t like an instant connection in the beginning. I felt really bad for Evie, I think she did deserve better. She held her head high, but suppressed all of her emotions/magic through the use of pills and sex for sure.

But, there was a connection between them at some point and I really loved when I felt it. I’ve realized I do love stalker romance books after reading this👀

This book has a lot of action, drama, and GORE in it. Please please check the trigger warning list before diving into this, I beg you. It’s a pretty long list! If 5/5 dark smut is for you, then this is the book you need to read right now.

It does end on a cliffhanger so you’d have to wait until next year (2024) for the next book!

It was my first time reading these authors, but I still want to check out other books Rebecca Garcia and CM Hutton has written! Thank you NetGalley and Rebecca Garcia & CM Hutton for allowing me to read an eARC and review 😊

Overall I enjoyed this one, but I got a little bored at times and just wasn’t reaching for it. Corrupt Shadows is a dark fantasy/paranormal romance about a Evie, who is the last in her line of witches. After accidentally killing her brother she is now on the run from the order. Lorcan is a demon who is trapped in the shadow realm and needs Evie to free himself. The shadow realm is a mirror of the real world, and he stalks Evie through mirrors. The concept was there! But in just didn’t feel an attachment to the characters (besides Gomez the fruit bat familiar lol). The spice was spicing and super hot and unhinged, but even then I found I was a little bored. Maybe I need a dark romance break lol

I will most likely still read the second book!

4.5⭐

This book is deliciously dark & dirty. The spice to plot ratio is impeccable!
(This book does end on a cliffhanger)
--------------------------------------

"𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙤 𝙛𝙪𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚. 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙤𝙙𝙮 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙞𝙩 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙤, 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙧, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙤𝙤𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙤𝙤."

Corrupt Shadows starts with a bang. It hits the ground running and it doesn't stop. Our girl, Evie, is the last living descendant of a long line of death & shadow witches. After her family is murdered in front of her, and she is taken in and tortured by a cult extremist, she lives her life on the run. She tries to avoid getting too close to people for fear of her powers harming anyone she cares about. Evie turns to drugs, sex, and alcohol to suppress her powers, always searching for the next extreme to make her feel anything but the pain of her past.

In walks Lorcan. And by walk, I mean struts sexily. Lorcan is a son of Satan. A demon of lust. Lorcan is also trapped in the shadow realm, put there by Evie's ancestors. Only Evie can release him, but our girl Evie doesn't make it easy for Lorcan to get close to her. At first.

𝙃𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙮 𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙛 𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩. 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙪𝙣𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙚𝙨𝙣'𝙩 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙖 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧. 𝙃𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙨 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙪𝙡, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜.

Lorcan and Evie have a connection that neither can deny. Which makes for some extremely smoky, spicy scenes. 🥵

And I can't forget Gomez, Evie's super freaking adorable familiar. A sassy, fluffball fruit bat. If Gomez isn't your favorite character, you're obviously a liar. 🤣

My only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed. But that cliffhanger was absolute torture.

Couldn’t even finish this book because the writing felt very juvenile without structure or purpose. Tons of potential with characters and premise but poor execution.

Corrupt Shadows

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

This book exceeded my expectations and more👏🏻👏🏻 This author duo instantly became a favourite of mine after reading Corrupt Shadows and I cannot wait to see where the story goes after that bone chilling cliffhanger.

Evie our FMC, a witch who is the last of her coven and has shadow/death magic. Trying to hide who she is/ her her traumatic past. Is trying her best to live a normal life with her familiar fruit bat Gomez (who is actually the main character, I’ll die for Gomez) . Evie is such a strong feisty fmc, I absolutely love her character.

Lorcan, our delicious demon MMC. Trapped in the Shadow Realm by Evie’s family. He needs her to help him break the curse. And boy does he have it bad for Evie. When these two finally interact with one another 🔥. The spice in this book is on a different level . Plus Lorcan and Gomez bickering with one another is the highlight of this whole story.

Between the phenomenal plot, the creative world building, the gore and the toe curling spice that leaves you needing a ice shower. I couldnt get enough. This book is extremely dark, and had graphic, gore moments that some may find triggering .

This is the perfect book to start your spooky season!!

This book had me hooked from the get go and was very dark and intense!

Evie was a tempting fmc with a chequered past and some questionable bedroom preferences that meant she was the perfect victim for Lorcan who begins stalking her from the Shadow Realm.

The heat in this book will have you gasping and questioning yourself and what you like to read, it gets dark and steamy and doesn't apologise for it.

The main focus of this book is the depraved descent into the lustful exchanges between Lorcan and Evie with them both questioning their motives and finding it impossible to stay away from one another. Evie is the key to Lorcan's needs but who will end up with the power in this dynamic?

This book will not be for everyone as it teeters on some very dark and intense subject matter but readers of dark paranormal stalker romances will eat this up and love it!

It was a page turning book that ended on a cliff hanger, and I will have to wait patiently to find out what happens next!!

"I don’t want perfectly paired pieces of a puzzle. I want the puzzle piece that falls out of the box, then lies forgotten under the sofa. Because the forgotten ones caged in their own destruction are beautifully broken." 🖤

AHHHH HOLY SHIII, THIS BOOK 😱😍😭🦇 First of all, PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS on the authors' websites. This book is sort of the first I've read in this genre, and while it was very good, it is DARK, as the subtitle states. That said, it really does have it all:
-Very spicy spice 🥵🌶️
-Characters who have been through trauma and find acceptance and understanding in each other
-GOMEZ, Evie's irresistibly cute and fiercely loyal familiar 🦇
-Rosa, Evie's kickass best friend
-Did I mention spice? 😂

Beware, though, it ends on a cliffhanger 😭 with the next book set to release sometime in early 2024, I think. I can't wait!

Lastly, thank you SO much to the authors for the ARC in exchange for my honest review! It was such a pleasure. (Haha, get it? Because it's a spicy book? 😏 ...I'll see myself out)

This was SO GOOD! The plot kept me invested throughout the story and the spice! I’m all kinds of hot and bothered 🥵 Evie is a badass, she just doesn’t know it yet and Lorcan is the stalker demon of my dreams!

“Mine,” he growls, the word vibrating within my skull. “If another man ever touches you intimately again, I will rip their weak spines from their mouths and suck the marrow from their bones.”

This is the perfect read for those who love all the trigger warnings with spooky vibes!
