Tough-as-nails Kenzie King has finally earned her place as a tactical medic on a SWAT team. But not everyone on the all-male team accepts her. Rumor is, she didn't get the position because of what she could do but because of who she knew. Which means she has to work harder and longer than anyone else to prove herself.

Cole Garrison is a man with deep faith who is finally ready to settle down and build a family of his own--if he can find the right person, that is. Kenzie sure has set off his interest meter, but trouble seems to follow in her wake. Since she joined the team, someone has begun to ambush and pick off team members, one by one.

It's all hands on deck to discover the culprit and end the killing. Can Kenzie and Cole put aside their differences and work together as a team? Or will their budding attraction be snuffed out by a sniper's bullet?

As you've come to expect from bestselling author Lynette Eason's stories, this tightly wound plot unfurls at breakneck speed and will leave you breathless.

Trigger Warning: Scenes at a mental asylum & mentions of suicides

I really enjoyed the first book of this series, so I’ve been excited to read this one as soon as it released. I would definitely say I liked the first book more, but it was neat to see behind the scenes of a SWAT team as I’m not sure if I’ve read about one of those before.

I’ll admit to when I opened the book and saw a long list of the cast of characters and how everyone was connected, I got a little nervous for this book. Thankfully, I was reading a Kindle edition so I was able to search for names to keep track of them all as I read, but it did take me out of the story because I couldn’t keep everyone straight.

The historical parts of this book felt a little shoehorned in and dramatic. Not that it couldn’t have happened—this is fiction overall—but it pull me out of the contemporary setting where all the action and suspense was happening. I knew both times would eventually intersect together, but for the first half of the book, I felt kind of meh on those parts.

I will say that the dialogue and pacing felt a little off to me at times, but I still mostly enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the third book when it releases next year!

I was excited about Eason’s trailblazing in this novel!

Imagine my surprise when I thought I’d be satisfied with another of Eason’s amazing romantic suspense novels and got a side order of history. The extra heaping of mystery added to an already fantastic story. The flashbacks to the main characters’ grandparents' stories meant I could identify with the challenges of caring for aging parents/grandparents. My heart was already pumping wildly as I cheered on Kenzie to overcome her past and her challenges with a placement on the SWAT team, now I was willing her the courage and strength to show the worthiness of her placement and with wisdom to deal with the cold case and the present threat. The added connections gave impact to an already emotional plot full of secrets.

I’m confident you’ll love the newest recruit to the Lake City SWAT team, medic Kenzie King. She deals with challenges on all fronts and this brings tension and mystery to the story, resulting in a bingeable read.

I can’t wait for the next installment.

I was gifted this copy by Revell and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Lynette Eason can be depended on for a fast paced read with action, danger, suspense, great characters, and a mystery to solve. This second trip to Lake City, North Carolina is no exception. We see characters from the first book and meet new ones. Kenzie King is the lone woman on the SWAT team, as a team medic but someone wants her off. She was the best choice with her training and an MD behind her name. Cole, the team leader is a family friend and her brother's best friend. He is torn between being a boss and friend when her life is threatened. This story has flashbacks to the 1940's, present day and in between history with lots of tie-ins and connections, including bad history, between local families. This is a hard to put down book with edge of the seat action and lots of clues thrown in to weed through to find the culprit. And of course, some romance, all with a faith thread.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.

Target Acquired by Lynette Eason
(Book 2 in the Lake City Heroes Series)

3 Stars

Double Take is one book I absolutely loved, so this one was one of my most anticipated releases for the year. This one is a dual timeline story and I really liked the past timeline of 1940s from the mental institution where we follow a woman's story of being thrown in this hospital by her father, the doctor and friend she has while in there that help her throughout the story and her doing what she has to do to get out of there. In the present day timeline we follow Kenzie King who finally earned her place as a medic on the SWAT team and Cole Garrison who cares for Kenzie and works with her to solve the mysteries that keep unfolding. Seeing how the past timeline was tied into the current and how the characters were related to our present day group was something I really enjoyed.

However, I will say I liked the first book better than this one. For some reason, I was not as engaged or connected to the present day timeline. I love her writing, I just don't know why I wasn't really connecting to the characters in the present day as much as I would have liked to be. One thing I don't love is Kenzie's place on the team had some of the "because I'm a woman" talk that I never usually like just in general in books. I get that is the whole point of her joining this all male team that some of the men would not take too keen to her, but having it be a big part of the plot really wasn't my favorite thing.

I did enjoy the romance that was here overall, as it was a slow burn and they really got to know each other, but the action and suspense left me wanting more. I also struggled to keep up with who was who sometimes and wanted more in the ending. We didn't really get shown what happened in the past so I personally would have preferred that.

Either way, please take me with a grain of salt on this one - I am going to read the next one in the series because it deals with fire and I love Lynette's writing. If you like suspense, give this one a go.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an e-book copy to honestly read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love Lynette Eason’s strong heroine’s and Kenzie has a lot to prove. A member of a SWAT team, some don’t think she belongs. Then things start happening when the team is called out and the question is whether the whole team is targeted or it’s just her. Cole leads the team, and he’s determined to keep the right distance but he also needs to keep her safe. When her father throws a cold case involving her mother’s death at her, Kenzie doesn’t know which way is up. This book is full of intrigue, twists, and hints of romance. I enjoyed every page.

Ms. Eason continues to shine in this suspense-filled offering, book two in the series Lake City Heroes.
Kenzie King has too many close calls for coincidence and knows someone has it in for her. She has ruffled a few feathers after securing the medic spot as the only female on the SWAT team. Team leader Cole Garrison tries to be fair to her without showing favoritism. But feelings begin to swirl between the two.
Part of the plot involves a very cold case and family history. Very interesting.
Excitement abounds as the SWAT team goes out on a call and gets ambushed. Yet they try their hardest to ferret out the crafty culprit. I was almost done with the book and still did not figure out the bad guy!
A great addition to the dramatic series. This book has a little romance, family drama and faith filled characters who support each other and have compassion on hurting people.
Recommended for those who like to exercise their brain. A truly hard one to puzzle out.

Target Acquired by Lynette Eason has an amazing, unique spin where a portion of the story is set around a young woman admitted into a psychiatric ward by her father. I really liked how the story started and as a fan of split time novels, I wish there were almost as many past scenes as present. However, I understand that might not be the cup of tea of some romantic suspense readers.

The main character, Kenzie King, had serious trouble trying to be excepted in the SWAT team. Let’s just say some of those guys act like it’s a man’s world.

Love the scenario surrounding Cole and his niece. He is a great uncle and sadly, her ailment helped me root for him and added tension to the storyline.

The romance picked up after the story was well established, which is just the way I like it. This was a great read, but you’ll have to check it out for yourself.

The world is in short supply of grace…” that very line says it all about the world these days and sets the foundation for the story Right in Front of You by Jessica Wakefield. This contemporary romance story surrounds ex NFL player, Hayden, and nutritionist, Rachel as he tries to overcome his past mistakes and she can’t get a grip on the fact that all football players aren’t horrible because of her past experiences.
I had no idea about the stats which led to Hayden’s foundation, but it made for an interesting premise, a tragic backstory, and if this were real life, a great way to actually help people. I appreciated the faith talk throughout the story and how Rachel finally opened up her heart so that she could feel love. So I recommend anyone who wants a clean story with love in the center.

"And just like that, his whole “I’m not trusting my heart to anyone ever again” vow scattered like ashes. Because he was falling for her."
And had been for a while now."

This book was EPIC!!!

Target Acquired is the second book in the Lake City Heroes series, and this book features SWAT team medic Kenzie King and Detective Cole Garrison as the main characters.

It's a great suspense read packed with tons of action, clean humor, and a plot that kept me on the edge of my seat to the last page.

There were only a couple minor words used that I don't use but don't consider to be a big deal (heck and dang used twice each).

The romance was sweet, clean, realistic and spice free which I seriously appreciate!

I really liked how it was paced too, slow burn and sincere instead of the cringy insta-love a lot of books feature but I don't personally care for.

Y'all, this was a read I loved, and I absolutely recommend! I plan to pick up a paperback copy for my suspense shelf as soon as I can.

Thank you to Revell Books for the complimentary e-book I received to review through Netgalley as part of the author's launch team. I was not required to write a positive review, and the thoughts above are my own.

Target Acquired is a masterful blend of high-octane action and poignant moments of faith, seamlessly intertwined to create a story that leaves a lasting impact. When you pick up this book, be prepared for a tactical thrill ride.

For anyone who loves Christian suspense with a twist of romance, this book is a must-read. Lynette Eason has crafted a story that entertains and is uplifting, reminding us of the power of faith and perseverance.

Kenzie King is a character who embodies resilience and determination, navigating challenges with grit and tenacity. Her journey is both inspiring and heart-pounding, a testament to strength and perseverance.

Cole Garrison’s deep faith and protective instincts add a rich layer to the narrative. His connection to his beliefs makes the dynamic between characters compelling and heartwarming.

The tension is palpable, the stakes sky-high, and the camaraderie among the characters truly shines. Eason’s ability to weave humor into the fabric of suspense is nothing short of brilliant, providing moments of levity amidst the chaos.

Target Acquired is a wonderful addition to the Christian suspense and mystery genre, embodying the themes of steadfast faith, resilience, and the indomitable spirit of those who serve. Lynette Eason's masterful storytelling delivers a narrative that is inspiring and heart-pounding.

So, lock your sights on Target Acquired and get ready for a read that's sure to captivate!

I received a digital ARC of Target Acquired from the publisher, Revell, and NetGalley. I am not required to write a positive review in any way or for any reason. I'm loving the Lake City Heroes books! I'm sure hoping that there will be several more in store for us readers! I've loved being pulled into this town with all of these great characters.

My friend introduced me to Lynette Eason's books last year and I have to say that I am hooked! I love a good clean suspense and this author delivers that in each of the books I've read. The characters are well written and developed and the storyline keeps me turning the pages quickly to figure out what's going to happen! And trying to piece together all of the puzzle pieces.

Kenzie was fun to read about and get to know even more after seeing little cameos of her in previous books by this author. Cole as well. I loved learning more about their history together and their families' histories. The way that they support each other in their jobs, and the concern they have for each other only built upon this book's appeal.

And the flashback story...wowsers! I wanted to flip ahead in the story and just read all of those chapters/scenes. But I was good and let it all play out and boy, oh boy, it was a wild ride! Hold onto your seats because you're going to be guessing all over the place and trying to figure it out. I had some suspicions and then I would second guess myself. I love all of the twists and turns and plot twists! I hope you will too!

Now I can't wait for the next book!!!

Content: Clean. This book has mild moments of peril but was written very well and in a clean manner. There are guns and bombs and bad guys and kidnappings. Talk of a patient in an asylum for medical treatment. Murder and threats. Some kissing but nothing further than kissing.

I received a copy from the publisher, Revell, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

While I was pretty hesitant about a story surrounding a girl on a SWAT team, especially knowing that part of the conflict was hinged on the fact, I really appreciated that AT LEAST TWICE there were conversations about the fact that a girl cannot keep up with men physically. YES YES YES YES THANK YOU.

I also loved Kenzie and Cole's relationship. They were sweet and precious, and I loved watching the SWAT team accept her and embrace her. And Cole's relationship with his niece, though not a huge deal, was so sweet!

The past timeline was also interesting, though I would have liked to have seen the resolution on page.

I loved how the author incorporated two separate timelines into one heart pounding romp. The main characters in this were also very distinctive from the first book's which I really appreciated, and despite the extensive cast of characters, I never got lost. Plus, I actually guessed the suspect for probably like the first time ever which was quite thrilling. Another thing I enjoyed was the SWAT setting and Kenzie's no nonsense personality. She wasn't afraid to hold her own and prove herself in a sea of speculation and doubt. 💪🏻
There was a light faith/prayer thread, but I appreciated the parts that were there! Highly anticipating book 3; Lynette Eason hasn't missed yet!

“And just like that, his whole ‘I’m not trusting my heart to anyone ever again’ vow scattered like ashes. Because he was falling for her.”

This series kicked off with a bang in Double Take, and Lynette Eason skillfully carries that explosive energy over into Target Acquired. (If you’re wondering whether I used words like ‘bang’ and ‘explosive’ on purpose… maaaaaaaybe. You’ll just have to read it for yourself and find out lol.)

We got a hint of the tension (romantic and otherwise) between Kenzie and Cole in Double Take, so I’ve been really eager to see how it would all play out in their own story. I knew there would be some intriguing layers there, and Target Acquired proved me right. From the complex SWAT team dynamics to their separate (and also complex) family issues to all the reasons a romance between them shouldn’t work, Kenzie and Cole have a lot of complications to overcome before ‘happily-ever-after’ can be anything more than a wishful thought. Including the not-so minor problem that someone wants Kenzie off the team badly enough to try and kill her. In fact, you may want to buckle up for this one because you’ll be on the edge of your seat as Kenzie and the rest of the SWAT team try to stay a step ahead of the person gunning for them. Also, buckling up will keep you safe from any swoon-induced injuries from the electric chemistry and repressed feelings between these two. I’m pretty sure I thanked God right along with Cole when they finally got to kissing 😉

What sets Target Acquired distinctly apart from Eason’s previous novels is the historical element she seamlessly weaves into this plot. I thoroughly enjoyed the reading the perspective of a wrongfully-committed mental hospital patient from the late 1940s, as well as trying to figure out how Eliza’s story connected to the present-day attempts on Kenzie’s life. I went back and forth several times on who I thought was behind it all but ultimately only came close to identifying the suspect right as Kenzie did. The shocking turn of events – besides being extremely entertaining suspense fiction – is a thoughtful warning against letting bitterness take root in your heart and fester into hatred.

Bottom Line: Target Acquired is a high-stakes, fast-paced, heart-in-your-throat thriller suspense novel which uses a historical element, a sweet and swoony romance & gentle notes of faith to add dimension and depth. Kenzie’s skill as an MD medic on a SWAT team applauds the smart & talented women out there who have fought determinedly to claim their rightful place in traditionally male-dominated fields, though most don’t have to fight for their lives like Kenzie does. Cole is all kinds of swoonlicious – AND an adoring uncle to boot, which just makes him even yummier in my opinion – but it’s his respect for Kenzie along with his feelings for her that most cemented him as a hero in my eyes. (Okaaay, his sacrifices for his niece didn’t hurt either lol). This series is one of Lynette Eason’s finest, and Target Acquired was truly a pleasure to read.

Much to my surprise I was more invested in the 1947 sections than the present day. I felt for Eliza and what she was going through and wanted to know what happened to get her from here to what we knew about her in the present day. Kenzie is the only female on an all male SWAT team and one member in particular isn't happy about her position. When threats seem to be targeted to Kenzie is this member behind them or someone else? I enjoyed the suspense elements but was frustrated with the constant because I'm a woman I'm not accepted. I was also overwhelmed by the number of characters and trying to keep track of who everyone was. I was thankful for the cast of characters list at the beginning of the book. I did figure out who the villain was before it was revealed and was very proud of myself for figuring it out before the team. I liked the characters together but felt like a lot of the feelings happened off the page or in the background. I will continue the series as I'm curious about a couple other characters. Target Acquired by Lynette Eason had me on the edge of my seat, the action was so constant. It is the 2nd book in her Lake City Heroes series and it was absolutely amazing. The group of friends in the series are a tight-knit, courageous and prayerful bunch, looking out for one another’s safety. I so enjoyed Cole and Kenzie’s story, romance and all. I can’t wait for book 3!!

An excellent book 2 of the series. I did have my suspicions who was after Kenzie, but forgot about it in some of the parts, lol.

The romance was slow and sweet.

In some parts, Kenzie seemed to have a take-charge, woman-boss attitude, which could annoy me, but she didn’t feel like she had too much of a chip on her shoulder.

I absolutely adore the friend group!

Once again, the groundwork is laid well for book 3, and I started it immediately!

Always love a Lynette Eason adventure! It’s a guaranteed good time of suspense, emotional rollercoasters, sweet romance, faith, and solid friend groups.

I forgot some things about Cole & Kenzie from book 1 which probably would have been helpful to have remembered, haha, but I still enjoyed it!

Rating: 5 stars ~ Genre: Christian Mystery & Suspense ~ Pages: 299 ~ Publish Date: 20 Aug 2024

The year is 1947 and a young woman 22 years old is in a hospital because her father put her there. Supposedly she tried to kill herself. And the keyword in that sentence is … supposedly. No other patients have a private room. Why did she? She does not remember if what she has been told is true. Her name? Eliza.

The story moves to “present day” with a new team medic assigned to SWAT. Not exactly new, having been on the team for six months but when your team doesn’t accept you, you feel “new”. It probably doesn’t help that your father was chief of police until she was 14 years old. Or that he was known as TD — “The Dictator”. She was good at her job but one team member made it VERY clear he did not think so. Snide remarks. Uncooperative when he could get away with it. Her name? Kenzie.

The mystery? Why does someone want Kenzie dead? And exactly what did happen in the accident that ceased her father’s career? And … what does Kenzie’s story have to do with Eliza’s?

To find out, you’ll need to read “Target Acquired” by Lynette Eason which is book two of the Lake City Heroes series. I had not read book one so this one can be read standalone. I felt no “missing parts”. A five-star read that engaged me immediately and kept me that way until the end. To this reviewer, the ending was great. Loved it.

If you love “clean” mysteries, this book is for you. If you love “Christian” suspense, this book is for you. I recommend it highly.

Well, I stayed up til 1:30 in the morning finishing. So that’s a clear indicator of how good this book was!

Target Acquired is book 2 in Lynette Eason’s Lake City Heroes series. We met Kenzie and Cole in book one, so these do build on each other, but other than a few spoilers for the first book scattered throughout you could certainly read this one first.

Kenzie has worked really hard and beat out a lot of competition, including her own brother, to be the first woman on the SWAT team. But 6 months in, the team still hasn’t fully accepted her, some still harboring a good bit of animosity. And now it seems someone has a big enough problem with it to want her dead!

Cole is SWAT team leader and admires Kenzie a lot. And lately his admiration has started to feel like more, but how to juggle his feelings, leadership, and team animosity?

Cole and Kenzie go through a lot in the pages of this story and grow closer through it. I just loved watching their feelings develop and how they were able to work through some things together. The relationship felt natural. I loved the suspense elements. Truly edge of your seat, page-turning goodness. With so many suspects, who is the actual person who wants Kenzie off the team so bad they’re willing to kill?

Must read for Lynette Eason fans, if you love romantic suspense, stories about women in non-traditional jobs, or a well-crafted mystery.

I received a complementary copy of this book from the author and publisher. I was not asked to leave a positive review. My opinions are my own.

A fast paced thriller which is also a dual time line .
The story has a some Histical mixed in which didn't bother me . I loved the Kenzie & Cole relationship and their romance was a good build in the story.
I can't wait till the next book !!
Well done!

Target Acquired by Lynette Eason is a non-stop action thrill ride. I love how she put Kenzie and Cole in the line of fire roughly every 30 pages. As for the setting, I love the idea of a mental hospital and the idea of what went on in these places long time ago does add some suspense and intrigue to the plot element. Readers will understand why Eason put the flashback to these moments in the story, but I really wanted more. It was pretty vague. Then she tied these past moments to the present with word of mouth or a journal. I was intrigued, so I wanted more of this storyline. On the other hand, there is a little bit of romance between the two main characters. It really does not take over the plot line until the end. Just the way I like it. Even though this story is marketed toward the Christian readers who enjoy a clean romance with action, there really is nothing that spiritual about the plot that non-Christian could not enjoy. The discovery for the villain was a little twisty as Eason kept moving the focus around from what the characters wanted you to think was the bad guy to who the bad guy was when revealed. I didn’t figure it out, which is a nice change. Overall, Target Acquired by Lynette Eason captured my attention, and enjoyed flipping through the pages of this story.

This was good! When I saw it was going to be a dual timeline, I’ll admit I got a little nervous—but the story pulled me in completely, and I actually enjoyed reading from both timelines. Eliza’s POV only happens six times, so it’s not like it’s constant, which I appreciated. I really liked how the past and present were woven together.

Kenzie and Cole were great (though I have to admit… Laine and James still have my heart 😆). I really enjoyed getting to read their story, and I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next in the series!

This is a great second book for the Lake City Heroes series and it did not disappoint. The book has a dual time line which at first I wasn't sure how it would all tie in but boy did it come together nicely at the end. The historical timeline does add a depth to the story I didn't even know I needed. In the present time Ms. Eason had me at the edge of my seat with all the action and mystery that was happening and kept me turning the pages until I sadly came to the end and the book.

I really enjoyed Kenzie and Cole. It was great to see how their storylines and relationship developed. The SWAT team really came together for Kenzie after being so distant from her. The romance between Kenzie and Cole was a slow burn and although you may want it to move faster I think if flowed perfectly and made it more realistic.

Overall I thought this was a great story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series and see some of these characters again.

The Lake City heroes are back in this second book in the series and this one explodes on the scene with non-stop action and a pace that is like a race car that is holding on to first place. Kenzie King is the newest member of the SWAT team and she is feisty and courageous, holding her own against the members of the team who seem to not want her there. Unfortunately, there is another threat, an unknown attacker who would just as soon kill her to get her off the team. Cole Garrison, her team leader, wants Kenzie safe but he is stymied about how to do that and keep the rest of the team safe too. The danger and suspense continue to ratchet up all the way until the surprising revelation of the perpetrator. I followed the clues and did my best to guess who was making the attempts on Kenzie’s life, but I didn’t guess right until the very end with a great clue that those paying attention will definitely catch. Filled with the author’s signature twists and intense suspense, this book is one not to miss that kept me turning pages and totally engaged in the story. With a brilliant twist at the time of revelation, this well-crafted book is intriguing as well as balancing faith with heroism. The characters all have complicated personalities that mesh well with the plot and they are realistically flawed. This is a satisfying and captivating romantic suspense that I recommend you plan to enjoy in one sitting because it will be impossible to put down.

4.75 rounded up
I enjoyed this sequel. Another great suspense story with twists I didn’t see coming. I liked book 1 better, but still enjoyed Cole’s and Kenzie’s journey.

Content:
Language: none
Romance: some kissing passionate but not descriptive
Violence: Moderate-Quite a bit of violence but it’s not gory or over the top crazy. Violence involving knife, guns, getting kidnapped, b*mb
Character in the past is purported to be crazy and have attempted to commit su!cide according to her father and is admitted to an asylum where she is at first not treated well. Book references this several times, but in a sensitive manner.
Substance use: Mild-mentions of drinking wine, discussion of character having maybe been drunk when in an accident
Prejudices: Sexism- some male characters believe main female character is not fit or shouldn’t be on their police swat team
Religious content: Christian-light themes of prayer
Other: death (past), mental illness, strained or difficult family relationships

The duel timeline in this one was cool! lesson to be learned here don't envy what other people have, just appreciate what you have.

Characters:
Kenzie was a strong, determined, stubborn gal, but she was also super nice and good at her job. She just wanted to be accepted by the team and have her skills acknowledged... I related a lot with that.
Cole was a nice guy! I love how much he adored his niece and his determination to protect Kenzie.🩵
The rest of the SWAT team was great! And I loved the humor and tension among the ranks, so to speak.
It was great to see Lainie and James again, too!

Language:
N/A

Romance:
A sweet brother's best friend to more...so cute.

Violence/Gore:
Lots of snipers, a few explosions, mental health issues, and a mental hospital...mentions of attempted suicide and murder.

Overall:
The story wasn't what I was expecting, but it was still so good!
I would have liked Kenzie and her brothers to have had a more heartfelt heart to heart or at least more resolve to the tension between them all and their dad, but other than that, I really enjoyed the story.

This was good! Even better than book one. Loved the inclusion of a 1940s thread.

Who knew SWAT teams had a medic? Well, apparently they do. As a female and the only female on her North Carolina SWAT team, Kenzie has an uphill battle to earn the team's respect. Kenzie has a medical degree and serves as the team's medic. Although she is skilled and intelligent, the fact that she is a woman doesn't sit well with much of the team, at least initially. And someone appears to be trying to kill Kenzie. The tough part is figuring out who. The why seems apparent.

There is a 1947 thread that appears periodically throughout the novel which adds an extra element to the novel. The history there is tied to current events.

Plenty of action and a great cast of characters.

My gratitude to publisher Revell for a complimentary copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
