The Missing Books and the Secret Library

Rate this book
Jesse is a young 9 year old boy who likes to read books about adventure, magic, and fantasy. Jesse goes to the library in his neighborhood to get a new book to read. He learns that many of the books that he likes to read are no longer there. They have been banned and removed from the library. Discouraged, Jesse leaves the library and heads back home. Along the way he makes an amazing discovery!

Book banning restricts access to information and ideas. Public libraries should provide diverse literature that reflects the experiences of all people. Diverse literature promotes empathy and understanding among people from different backgrounds, develops critical thinking skills, and challenges biases. Use this book as a starting point for a conversation with children about censorship and diversity in literature. Encourage readers to challenge their assumptions and introduce them to new ideas. Thank you for supporting diverse literature in public libraries.

Came across this book on here and on Amazon and I figured I'd purchase it. It's a decent book for kids but I do think it has a few things worth mentioning.
First being that you can tell the author has great interests at heart and is passionate about the cause, but I do wish there was more of a plot in this book. Kids are way more understanding of nuanced plots than writers give them credit for
Second, i wish the illustrations were done by someone who has a more cartoon-y style. While the art is okay, it can be a little serious for a younger child, whom i believe this book is intended for.
Lastly, and somewhat echoing the first point, i wish the message wasn't so on the nose with its message, and instead used a more subtle, but sympathetic way of bringing it about.
That's all. Going to be placing this in the little library near by so it reaches it's intended audience.
