Kathryn

Everything was perfect until it wasn’t. Nobody warns you that it can all be taken away in the blink of an eye.

Now my life revolves around working two part-time jobs to make ends meet while taking care of my daughter alone. Ensuring she doesn’t drown in my grief.

When Graycee asks to play hockey, I scrape and save enough to sign her up for the local youth league. The smile on her face as she steps out onto the ice makes every sacrifice worth it.

It’s the same smile I used to see on her father whenever he played too. The smile that still haunts me to this day. The one I never thought I’d see again in person.

But somehow those dark eyes and that cocky-as-shit smirk are staring right back at me. Grayson Monroe, the man I’ve been hiding from in plain sight for the last eight years.

Grayson

I didn’t want to believe it at first. Kathryn Kilgor, a girl I never thought I’d see again. She’s here. In this rundown skating rink, meant to host Vancouver’s next generation of hockey players.

I searched for this woman for years and couldn’t find her. Now that I have, I realize she’s not alone. She has a daughter. A little girl, with the same set of dark eyes that look back at me every time I stare into a mirror.

Still, I don’t want to believe that Kathryn would do this. She wouldn’t hide a child from me, my child from me. I gave this woman everything. My heart, my soul, my fucking dignity. And she stepped on it like it was worth nothing.

The panic on her face shouldn’t excite me. But I’ve been hurting for eight years now, all because of her. I’m thinking it’s time my runaway ex felt some of that pain too.

This is a stand alone novel in the Vancouver Knights world. Each book in this series can be read independently, However, for a more enhanced reading experience read them in order.

THE SECOND BOOK OF THE SERIES and the hero is also a manwhor3 😓😓😓 The hero and the heroine was separated for 6 years, while the heroine never have s3x with anyone else during that years… The hero did and i quote: “I haven’t even spoken her name aloud. I’ve thought about her, every fucking day. Not that I wanted to. It was like I’d wake up, search for her, and realize she’s not there. Six. Fucking. Years. Later. I’ve tried to fuck her out of my system. I’ve fucked so many puck bunnies, models, actresses that I’ve lost count. They’re all just a blur of nameless faces and bodies. But her? She haunts my mind like a fucking obsession I just can’t shake.”

See that? He lost count cause it’s too many 😂😂😂 What a stupid hero right here and I don’t like this hero so much🥵 This type of hero is the one I despised the most 😡😡😡 IT MAKES ME SICK TO READ THAT HE FVCKS MANY WOMAN BUT THE HEROINE STAYS CELIBATE… WTF!!!! THE DOUBLE STANDARD 😡 IT IS NOT OKAY🤢🤢🤢

also what is super annoying and stupid to me is that the reason that they are separated because of the heroine have some problems with someone high profile crime family that she thought it was bad for the hero. So she said she did it for the hero and to save him… WHILE KNOWING FOR DAMN SURE THAT THE HERO’S FAMILY IS ALSO A HIGH PROFILE CRIME FAMILY. Like why you didn’t ask for him to help your problem? And at this stage of their relationship before they separated, both of them are already dating for two years and serious and already say i love you. BUT SHE DID’NT ASK FOR HIS HELP?! And she decide to run away…
LIKE THE REASON IS JUST TOO STUPID FOR ME. IT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!! LIKE WHY THESE CHARACTERS ARE STUPID????! 🫣🫣🫠

Even the separation reason itself is stupid… What’s even more stupid is that when they got back together, the heroine didn’t want to tell at first to the hero what happened and the whole story. And the hero kept blaming her for it and FOR MANY TIMES THE HEROINE SAID I’M SORRY TO HIM LIKE A FREAKIN DOORMAT… WHEN THE HERO ALREADY SAID IT’S OKAY. Like once or twice is okay but more than five times girl? Dumbass.

“I didn’t fucking move on. Ever. But I wasn’t celibate either,” he says.
“I know. I’ve seen all the tabloids,” I tell him. “It appears you have a thing for blondes.”
“I have a thing for you. I was trying to find you in everyone I met…”
“I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay. How about we grab Graycee and go make a pizza?” he suggests in a much lighter tone.
ISN’T THIS FVCKIN DISGUSTING 🥴🥴🥴🥴

AND WHAT’S EVEN MORE CRAZY IS THE HERO DID THIS:

“March eighteenth. Every year, he mourns you like you died, Kathryn. You know how I know that? Because I’ve flown out here on that day, every year, to help him through it. Do you have any idea what it’s been like watching him fall apart? He looked for you for years, Kathryn. And even though I knew it was your choice, I always hoped he’d find you and bring you back.”
Yeah but was not celibate enough to wait on the heroine and just fvcks many woman and even showing it to the public how a manwhor3 he is 💩 FALL PART MY AZZ 🙄

“I’ve always been yours.” He lowers his lips. “I love you,” he whispers into my mouth.”
Always been yours but not celibate and fvcks manu woman😂😂😂😂 ALWAYS BEEN YOURS MY AZZ. SO IF THE HEROINE FVCKS MANY GUYS TOO IT MEANS SHE ALWAYS BEEN HIS?! 😆😆

This romance is just not romantic enough for me… Too many things that ruins it especially the stupid separation reason 😂 Can you come up with a great smart reason please that’s reasonable 🫠

⭐️⭐️ For the heroine and hero’s adorable daughter who is so cute. And knows how to defend herself physically ❤️ And the second star is for the hero’s family being super tight with him and have a great relationship ❤️❤️❤️

‼️‼️‼️NO EX FVCK BUDDY OR WHAT FROM THE HERO AND HEROINE EVER SHOWS UP. NO VIRGINS. THE HERO IS OVER THE TOP POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE HOCKEY PLAYER ALPHA MALE BUT STUPID AND DUMBASS. WHEN THEY REUNITED, BOTH ARE SINGLE. WHEN THEY REUNITED, BOTH ARE LOYAL AND NEVER CHEATED. SAFE… But with a lot of stupidity 🙄

Happy ending and engaged…

I will for sure stay away from this series cause it looks like a hockey player romance NIGHTMARE 😂 Where the hero is allowed to fvck many woman and a manwhor3 😂 The two books is already like that 😆 That is a nightmare for me….

This author needs to make the story and characters more safer or else many won’t trust the future books 😬😬😬😬

⚡️⚡️⚡️THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING MY REVIEW. Even if you hate my review i still say thank you so much cause you spend your time reading this one👻 I’m not a professional reviewer or professional reader. I’m just someone who likes to read novels that is safe and no cheating whatsoever. And many more that i like lol😆 I DID NOT GET PAID TO DO THIS. This is just basically me writing my review based on my personal opinion about the book if it’s safe or what I will write it all down just the way i like it 😏 I know my review can be very straightforward with the way i write it down all of it and not a professional writing because again I’m not professional reviewer anyway. And whatever negativity you might think of what i write or what my thoughts are on my review about a book, me and you are not the same person. I have my own types of book and you have your own. You have your own thoughts and same with me. You can’t control what I should write on my review and neither should I. I WILL NOT TOLERATE NEGATIVE COMMENT AND I WON’T EVER REPLIED TO IT. If you still don’t like what i write and my disclaimer here, IT’S A YOU PROBLEM. NOT MINE😙 HAVE A GREAT DAY❤️❤️❤️

Types of book that I’m looking for: SAFE, safe all the way from the beginning till the end🥵 No cheating, no unnecessary childish drama. Not too much OW DRAMA cause they are loud and annoying lol. NO to still having feelings about a ex especially wants go get back together tf no. NO to friends with benefits and still seeing other people type of sh*t. NO to hero or heroine who said i love you and have been obsessed but still likes to fvck around yeah big NO to that sh*t. NOOO to still married or still in a relationship with someone else while liking the main character, yeah they have to be single since the beginning. NOOO to a long separation and have someone else they have s3x with during the separation. NOO to too many times of separation and breaking up sh*t. NOO to toxic narcissistic characters.
I preferred the characters are loyal to the core, over the top possessive heroes since the beginning and never stops, main characters have unique jobs or talents, the hero adores and obsessed with the heroine so much, the hero fell harder for the heroine and don’t want let her go and fight for her. And most importantly EPILOGUE AND ESPECIALLY THE DECADES LATER SCENE…. HAPPY ENDING IS A MUST. Chemistry is a must too 🙏🏼

While I do love Ms. Kent's books, I'm always wary of second chances. I can only read them if the MCs are both celibate or have been with other people; there's no in-between.

The FMC might be the reason they broke up, but I still didn't want to read that she went through her pregnancy on her own (her own doing) and that her world for the last six years has been her daughter, while the MMC is probably having the best time of his life or trying to (because he's still mad that she left him).

============================

"I've tried to fuck her out of my system. I've fucked so many puck bunnies, models, actresses that I've lost count. They're all just a blur of nameless faces and bodies. "

Scene:

“Is it true? What you said before? About not being with anyone else…?”

“Yes.” I lift my head and look him dead in the eye. “It was different for me, Gray. I knew where you were. Whereas you thought I was dead. You moved on. That’s normal, and perfectly all right.”

“I didn’t fucking move on. Ever. But I wasn’t celibate either,” he says.

“I know. I’ve seen all the tabloids,” I tell him. “It appears you have a thing for blondes.”

“I have a thing for you. I was trying to find you in everyone I met…”

“I’m so sorry."

============================

I think this series isn't for me, and that's okay. I can read her other future releases. 😊

DNF.

Same old same old.

Second chance romance. 6 year separation. He’s had lots (beautiful actresses, models, etc), and she’s had no one but him (there are ALWAYS reasons why, right?). Why couldn’t she have had anyone else during that time, too, instead of pining for him and unable to move on? And why is she written to be so clueless. He’s had lots of other women but he tells her he’s clean because he’s always used a condom 🙄 and she believes him? Really?? 🤦🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

Ugh!

When is this bullshit going to end?

Self Note:

🚩⚠️🚩⚠️🚩⚠️🚩 avoid

There is separation and during it the H screws multiple women. He is a proper man-wh*re. But the h is celibate?

I’m sorry? What is this freaking double standard? Why are women such doormats? Whose fantasy is the author trying to fulfill? Why can’t the h also be promiscuous?

Nope, it didn't work

I knew going in that during the separation the hero wouldn't be celibate so my rating is only a tiny bit impacted by it.

I decided to give this one a chance first as a way to test a new author and because I read it had breeding kink and lots of angst.

Now that I finished it, I can say

↬ Kinda on the former.

↬ Yes, but not the kind I expected on the latter.

࿔*:・ The plot

That's the big mystery, the plot.

The book stats with the heroine and hero as a strong couple in college, two years strong, very much in love.

Something happens and the heroine disappears for 6 years.

Why?

Well, that's what we don't know until almost 80% in. And with so much build up, I really needed it to be good... and it wasn't. Her position 'save him by leaving or hurt both of them by staying' is a good reason in theory to have her leave... except hero's dad is the head mafia of her city and her best friend's family is like mega mafia or something.

And. she. knows. it.

If the heroine hadn't known, if the hero had been in part responsible for keeping secrets and not telling her who he was, then the story would've been sooooo much better. They could share the blame for the separation, not have all the guilt on only one character's shoulders and have that as a reason for their reconciliation. It would make them stronger than ever. "We will tell each other everything from now on" sort of bonding moment.

Instead, we get an idiot that ran... for what turned out to be no good reason at all because apparently it was all fake? Or it wasn't? What really happened at the end there? Could anyone explain it to me? Because as far as I understood the original reason was super petty and no one was looking for her? Except they were? Why???????

࿔*:・ The angst

Romantic? None.

The hero is past his grief stricken stage and is in full rage mode until he isn't. There's never any impact of him seeing her and his child for the first time either, it happens off page. There isn't even an emotional confrontation since he stalks her for weeks before they talk.

The heroine could've almost carried out her side of the angst, expect she's too defeated to hurt. Instead of being cut by the hero's coldness, she believes she deserves it and takes it. Where is the angst in that?

What little angst we did have was when her mother died. Her sadness at thinking she's got no one in the world was poignant. The author could've utilize that and have the hero realize the heroine has given up on him and build the angst and the reconciliation from there, but, again, no. He isn't hurt by the words and he's there for her even though two pages ago he wasn't certain didn't want to kill her. No romantic prelude, no explanation. He even says something like "fuck if I know why".

This is just lazy writing when not even the characters can justify their actions to themselves.

࿔*:・ Final thoughts

This book was never going to be a winner for me. How can he say he's loved her for 6 years while sleeping around?

But the plot didn't need to be nonsensical and the angst could've been much better. Not really interested in trying this author again.

I honestly wanted to wait this one out so that I could process my feelings for it. I am heavily disappointed with this book. I honestly didn't like Kathryn it had so much potential but it fell flat very flat. It's been three days and I don't even remember much . Yes it was spicy but that's it there was nothing else there was no character development you don't fall in love with the characters and it gets so monotonous sometimes .I just expected much more I guess

I liked her but I think she overacts sometimes and is kind of dramatic. She should have trusted Gray and not taken matter in her own hands.

Loved him although he treats Kathryn like an asshole (which is understandable btw). He is a hockey captain AND a mafia prince - my dream man.

This was good but could have been so much better. The idea has a lot of potential but I think the implementation lacked. There were some things that weren‘t relatable and I had my problems liking Kathryn to he honest. I think Kylie Kent should thought about a better reason to run away because it felt overly dramatic.
This could have been an amazing college sweethearts second chance book but instead it was a mediocre mafia romance. It was not bad but I hoped we got more tension and longing. The vibe between Kathryn and Grayson felt off sometimes and I don‘t know if I truly ship them. Graycee (the child) annoyed me sometimes and in my opinion she had too much „screen time“. Yes, she is their kid but come on this is a love story and the main characters should communicate and build a relationship without this little girl. And she is way too naive (I know kids are naive but there is a strange man in her house at night and she instantly asks »are you my daddy« and when he said yes she never thought twice and just goes with him? wtf.). It‘s sad that Graycees character wasn‘t written more likeable. Normally I adore kids in books but her character building lacked.
Overall this book was okay but nothing I would read again.

Loved it!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐1\2
Trope: second chance, secret baby
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

This was my first Kylie Kent book and it definitely won't be my last! I love a secret baby book and this one definitely checked my boxes with a completely obsessed hero - even when he hated her, lol. I loved that there was no 3rd act breakup ❤. It was definitely an interesting mix of hockey romance and mafia, lol, but somehow it worked 🤷🏻‍♀️. Super invested in these characters and will definitely be reading the next in series and likely the back list as well. This book is a standalone, but does have a series cliffy.

Book: Know The Score

Review: I knew it was going to love this book when I was only 5% in! Their past was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. Gray and Kathryn loved each there sooo much and were each other’s future. Katharyn made a mistake and to protect Gray did a runner. Gray 😭 my heart cried for him he was so heartbroken. In the present he hated her and loved her at the same time. Gray’s scenes with Graycee were so beautifully written you could feel the love they had for each other. This book was A M A Z I N G ❤️ I loved how they built their relationship back up and trusted one another as they knew they were meant to be and were each other’s future. Liliana was a true best friend to Kathryn and was there for her at every turn absolutely adored them 🥰 Can’t wait to read Liliana’s and Travis’s book now. Come quick May!!

I love how Kylie Kent couldn’t choose between writing a mafia romance and a hockey romance book so she went with cringe

Like none of this makes sense. And it’s so funny how they’re talking about shooting/killing people and then next second about winning the Stanley cup. Omg help me

Also the hockey rules in this… don’t even get me started

Mafia, hockey, secret child, big lie in the relationship, time jump, etc.

Don’t even get me started on the resolution because it was crap, all that buildup for nothing. Like literally nothing!

Hockey + mafia romance

4⭐️ 2.5🌶️ Book 2 in the Vancouver Knights hockey series

Grayson (Gray) Monroe is the hockey captain and son of the team owner (also the head of the Canadian mafia). Kathryn is his girlfriend and disappears without telling Gray after being threatened by someone connected to his father. He was destroyed when she left and now she’s back in town 6 years later with a daughter, Graycee, that has his eyes. He confronts Kathryn and takes her and Graycee home with him.

I liked the plot, the story had a good twist, nice pacing, and I appreciated the hockey + mafia elements. My heart broke for Graycee when she said she dreamed of having a daddy at school for Parent’s Day and says ‘It's okay, I know you were busy.’ ❤️ I liked Gray and Kathryn as a couple - you could feel their connection. The spice was decent - he’s dominant/she’s submissive. 🫠

"You're my daddy?"
"Yeah, I am," Gray says.
"Are you finished being busy? Are you going to live with me now?" Graycee asks him.

"I've been waiting."
My heart breaks for her, and when I look at the pain evident on Gray's face, it breaks for them both.

"Where are we going?"
"Home. I'm taking you home, Graycee."
"And Mama?"
"Yes, and Mama too."

“You are mine, Kathryn. Mine.”
"Okay, but are you mine?"
"I've always been yours."

"You're my person, Gray. You're my soulmate.”

Read this if you like:
*Second chance romance
*Hockey romance
*Dominant MMC that wears sweatpants and has a dirty mouth
*Mafia
*Soulmates/‘It’s always been you’
*Secret daughter
*Forced proximity

Content warning: mafia, violence, blood, stalking, guns

I am struggling to put into words how much I loved this couple and their story. Gray and Kathryn oh are seriously gonna be hard to beat!!

Let's start by saying I couldn't put it down to send messages to my book friends like I normally , that in itself speaks volumes to the captivating story and emotions felt
I knew Gray was going to break my heart before he put me back together, but he did more than that. He showed so many different sides and emotions, however he made me fall for every aspect of him even the hurt and angry alpha hole. Meanwhile Kathryn that girl knows how to do protective better than even most of the guys in these worlds. Together their chemistry, their hurt, their passion, their love and their protectiveness of each other and their daughter. It is seriously second to none... At least for now (I'm reserving judgment for some of Gray's brothers for instance).

As always with Kent worlds, family is at the heart and boy do the Munroe's rally round...even if there is doubt about Kathryn's intentions and worry for their brother. Plus Kent fans get to see another and new fans get to meet a favourite family.

A fabulous mix of mafia and sports with everything I love from both tropes... I mean what girl wouldn't fall for this book More please...

Know the Score is book 2 in the Vancouver Knights series. It's a stand alone with interconnecting characters that involve the Monroe and Valentino families. If you like mafia, hockey, suspense, second chances and an adorable 5 year old, then one click this book. I didn't like that the MMC was banging every blonde he met or that he totally ignored birth control and that the FMC was a doormat! I liked this book but didn't love it. The parts between father and his daughter were well done but I felt no connection between the MCs and thought the book was boring in certain areas. My rating is 3.5 stars.
TW: Promiscuous MC, no birth control, violence, murder, guns, blood, lies, passing of a parent, surprise child, etc.

Kathryn Kilgore and Grayson Monroe were in love, in college and planned on graduating, getting married, Gray going to the NHL, then starting a family. That abruptly changed when Kathryn disappeared.

Grayson is surprised when he sees a picture in the paper of the woman he thought was dead and a little girl with his eyes. It's been 6 years since she left and he will take what belongs to him. He will find out what caused her to go into hiding but she will also know the score of keeping his daughter from him!

Not a bad way to spend a day

Did I love every moment? No.
Does it combine two of my favorite devices: hockey and mafia? Yes, surprisingly. I didn’t hate the combo and thought the way it was done was okay.

There are aspects of the plot that made me cringe. Without spoilers… I thought the underlining reason for the Kathryn’s disappearance came out of left field and was weak. I think it would’ve worked better if there was some ground work earlier on which could’ve been worked through the ploy at certain points, like the games.

The blanket acceptance of return and forgiveness was a little too easy. It was rushed. HOWEVER… the scene where Grayson takes Kathryn and Gracyee home and their initial interaction was sweet.

Was this great? Not in my opinion. Was it a solid enjoyable read? Yes, and I’ll probably get to the rest of the series at some point.

4.5⭐️Okay, I don’t normally like surprise Pregnancy baby tropes, but this one felt different. I really enjoyed it because I really enjoyed his possessive mafia Boss style coming out when he’s protecting his daughter and what it happened.

I love the second chance angle to this, I love the combination of the mafia and the Ice Hockey plot threads. It’s a really great series. I’m super excited to read more, I loved it. This one was Hella spicy, I loved it more than the first one! I think Grayson is my fave!

4.75 ⭐️ I devoured this book in a couple of hours. Absolutely loved it the entire time I was reading it. It’s going to live rent free in my mind now. It had the surprise pregnancy trope which is one of my fav but there relationship and how the test of time couldn’t even compete … swoon. The only thing I wish was that the epilogue was further in time than what it was.

Murder and Hockey

I really liked that it overlapped with the first book, it was fun seeing the events play out from a different perspective. There was the right amount of gorgeous father, hurt partner and family love to make this a fun, easily enjoyable read.

Is this the best book I’ve ever read? No. Is it a literacy masterpiece? Also no. Did I enjoy every second of it? Absolutely. Worth every hour I spent reading it and will 100% be going back to read book 1 and will be reading 3 & 4 when they come out.

I started the series because of this book. Why did my job keep me from finishing it for a couple days. I think this book had a little more mafia and hockey so I was hooked. I love that we still got glimpses of Liam and Lia from book one. If I didn’t get just Onyx Storm from the library I’d be jumping into book 3 NOW!

Upon further review I’m saying this was my favorite read of Jan. 2025.
