In a dazzling new novel in the Wherlocke family saga, New York Times bestselling author Hannah Howell creates an unforgettable story of intrigue, jeopardy, and desire. . .

He's the one person who can keep her son and his inheritance safe from her late husband's ruthless brother. As for how to protect herself. . .it may be too late for that.

I read If He's Daring as a stand alone story and although I really enjoyed this one, there are areas where there was missing context for me because I have not read the previous books. Even with that being true, Howell provided everything that I needed in order to enjoy this installment independently. The story opens with a bang and keeps the reader on a fast paced and fully developed story right up to the end.

Catrin is a strong willed woman who will do anything to protect her son and his legacy against her deceased husband's cruel and underhanded brother who is out to steal her son's inheritance. After having to commandeer a carriage with a surprise passenger inside Catrin is thrown in the path of Orion, who is a man not to be crossed. Catrin and Orion make a wonderful match with both of them being headstrong and determined.

I am at a loss as to how to review this book and reveal all of my favorite bits without giving away plot twists and turns without spoilers. All that I'll say is that this isn't ONLY a historical romance, there's a bit of paranormal goodness added in as well. If you are a fan of historical romances where the heroine is believably strong without it playing against what would have been likely of the time then If He's Daring is a good bet. The only problem with having read this one is that I have now added yet another series to my want to read list!

Hannah Howell has done it again (though a better cover model is definitely needed!). This one has lots of craziness, intrigue, desire and humor. Lady Catryn de Warrenne's son is kidnapped by his uncle who feels that his brothers inheritance should be his not his nephew's. Lady Catryn disagrees and chases him all across England with a little help from Giles (Sir Orion Wherlocke's son) who just happens to be inside the carriage she steals.

I've wanted Orion's HEA for a while now and was very satisfied with his story. Catryn is perfect for him and all his children and hers make for the perfect ready-made family.

One of the best things about this series is the group of illegitimate children. They are all so individual, loyal and funny. And I hope HH continues this series long enough to give some of them a HEA as well.

Rating: MA: mature-reader [->17]: erotic sex, depravity, debauchery, trigger warnings for violence toward women and children, kidnappings, murder, scandal, mutilation, murder, blackmail, murder, treachery, ghosts, did I mention murder? Angst level: medium-high: Book 6/7 in the psychic Wherlocke, paranormal series: Source: purchased: I had previously read this series in paperback form and have systematically gathered the ebooks for my personal library. I am enjoying rereading them and writing reviews. I am fascinated by this family. There are so many members within the two branches of this families and their ‘gifts’ are so unique and varied, it is never dull when they enter the scene. Each book features a Vaughn or a Wherlocke [sometimes both] and manages to have other family members visit and give aid or assistance when needed. They seem to know or sense when there is trouble and especially when someone in the family is hurt. I found that fascinating. This review may contain ***SPOILERS***

This was a tough story to read. Secrets would be revealed that will shock and surprise. In fact, some of the evil displayed, I’ve never seen before. I am sure our author researched such machinations and there are probably historical records of such horrid experiences. However, I mean… I am still shaking my head. The reveal caught me completely off guard.

I was horrified by the insane machinations of one very evil person and the secret that he held. Lady Catryn de Warrenne was a mess when her five-year-old son Alwyn was kidnapped by his uncle. In her attempt to chase after the kidnappers, when her horse stumbled and started to limp, she stole… um… borrowed Sir Orion Wherlocke’s coach. This was a joke carried over from the previous book. Sir Orion quickly followed her trail because his son, eight-year-old Giles, was inside the coach. Lady Catryn wouldn’t discover that until she stopped to rest the horses.

Alwyn was adorable and his ability to talk to his ‘papa’ was freaking amazing. I couldn’t help but love that part. He quickly became friends with Giles Wherlocke after the boy assisted in recapturing the heir and returning him to his mother. That was only a temporary fix as the evil uncle continued to harass and plague the family. I wasn’t sure Catryn was going to make it when family secrets began to be revealed. How much treachery and betrayal could one woman handle?

The children involved in this story were wise beyond their years and there was such a story behind them. OMG! This story was hardcore and the adventure was fast and furious, I CNPID. I was holding my breath to the very end. When the Wherlocke and Vaughn relations arrived, you knew things would begin to happen. Yep, I love this family.

Wherlocke Series: each book can standalone and usually contains references to and visits from characters in previous books. I love this family.

Book 2: If He’s Sinful [Penelope Wherlocke and Lord Ashton Radmoor]

Howell is vividly in your face from the first page of this novel. You can’t escape her upbeat writing or her captivating storytelling. Readers are drawn into the intricate world that she has crafted. Reality and fantasy merge in this one of a kind story. Howell captured my imagination and my heart throughout, making the story easy to follow and to picture.

The main characters in this novel are very easy to get to know and like. I thoroughly enjoyed Howell’s gradual character development throughout. It was also nice to see the characters getting to know more of themselves and what they are capable of throughout their adventures. The fact that much of the supporting cast in this novel was children added another unique element to the story. The full cast was remarkable, filling out the story perfectly.

This is definitely one of those series that you should read in sequence for context, otherwise you start the story in the middle of an ongoing conflict. At the same time, this story could be read on its own and still be very enjoyable in and of itself.

Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

After reading the first five books in the series in fairly short order, I took a bit of a break and here I am on number 6. It was a good break and kind of gave my mind something to think about besides being immersed with the Wherlockes and Vaughns.

It was a fun story, despite some darker moments and incidents. Catrin and Orion are a very comfortable couple. There was travel, and adventure, a handful of adorable plot moppets, and of course, the indomitable Wherlocke-Vaughn family. THere were secrets to ferret out and a villain to overcome, and a family to be made.

Other than that there really isn’t a ton to say about this book. It fits into the mold with the rest of the books in this series, right down to some rather useless interest in another woman at the beginning, and a pregnancy to hide until love has been revealed at the end. If you happen to be happy to step into that mold then you’ll enjoy this one too, as I did.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: A fast-paced historical romance that ultimately made me feel like something was missing, as I couldn’t completely invest myself in the romance.

Opening Sentence: The groan echoed through the small house, every note of it filled with pain and helpless fury.

The Review:

In the two years since her husband died, Catryn’s brother-in-law has been giving her nothing but problems in his quest to become heir to his brother’s estate. First, he proposed to Catryn. After her refusal, he decided to try and legally get himself named heir. Now that that too has failed, he has resorted to kidnapping her son. After her horse comes up lame whilst trying to chase down her brother- in-law’s carriage, Catryn finds herself stealing a nobleman’s carriage, not knowing that his 8-year-old son is currently inside.

Sir Orion Wherlocke is none too pleased when he catches up to Catryn and his son, yet he can’t help but feel sympathy for Catryn’s plight. Thus, at the encouragement of his son, Orion agrees to help Catryn track down her brother-in-law and retrieve her son. Being in such close quarters makes it hard for them to deny the attraction that is sparking between them, but neither Catryn nor Orion are interested in starting a romance. Will they continue to be able to deny their attraction to each other, or will they give in to the feelings they can’t help but have?

I’ll be up front and say that I have not read the first five books in this series; however, it did not affect my understanding of this book in the least. The history of the Wherlockes and Vaughns was explained very well, and Catryn and Orion’s story really didn’t seem to need more backstory than was given. So, I would say that this book could easily stand alone if anyone was interested in reading it prior to the others.

That being said, there just seemed to be something missing as I read the book, and it frustrates me that I can’t put my finger on what it was. The book moved quickly. The kids were adorable (although they at times seemed a lot wiser/older than their years). As a mother myself, I empathized with Catryn’s plight and was eager to see a quick resolution. But for some reason, I just did not find myself invested in the romance between Orion and Catryn, and as that is the main focus of the book, that is a big problem.

Another big issue I had involves something we learn towards the end of the book. I don’t want to delve into spoiler territory, so suffice to say a secret is revealed. If the events of this story were happening to me, discovering this secret would result in a much bigger reaction than that of Orion and Catryn. It seemed as if everyone gave a mental shrug and said “What can you do?” and went about their normal lives. I just would have liked it if the secret had been revealed earlier and we got to see more of how the characters adjust to the knowledge.

All in all, while the pace of the book was fast, I felt very apathetic towards everything that was happening and just could not connect to the romance at all. Suffice to say, I probably won’t be checking out the previous 5 installments of this series.

Notable Scene:

His face was so close and so very handsome. She could see concern for her in his beautiful blue eyes. His mouth was almost as pretty, the bottom lip a little fuller than the top. Catryn could not recall the last time she had been kissed by a man, and she suddenly craved a kiss.

Orion knew it was a mistake as he lowered his mouth to hers, but the way she had looked at him had been a temptation he could not resist. There had been a glint of want and curiosity in her sea-green eyes, and his body strongly encouraged him to respond. It took but one brush of his mouth over her full, soft lips to tell him that he could be risking a lot just to steal that little taste, but he ignored the warning.

Catryn curled her arms around his shoulders as he kissed her.

When he nipped at her bottom lip, she opened her mouth so that he could deepen the kiss. Her body trembled from the strength of the desire that flooded her. He tasted so good, his body pressed against her was a delight, and he even smelled wonderful. She wanted to sit there in his arms and keep on kissing him until the sun rose.

That thought was enough to make a warning bell sound in her mind and she gently pulled free of his hold. “I believe I need to write a message and send it to my father, for we must try to learn if there is Wherlocke blood in my family,” she said as she stood up and brushed down her skirts with shaking hands, knowing it was a ridiculously abrupt change of subject but desperate to get away from the man.

“Have him send an answer to Radmoor, the Earl of Radmoor’s country home, as we will stop there soon.”

“Good night, Sir Orion.”

“Sleep well, Cat,” he said, and smiled at the way her shoulders stiffened as she hurried away.

It had been an abrupt ending to a sweet moment, but he was not surprised. She had not shied away from his kiss but had not shown any great experience, either. It was yet more proof that he should stay far away from her, but he knew he would not be able to. Already he wanted to hunt her down and kiss her again. Licking his lips, he deemed hers the sweetest mouth he had ever tasted.

“There is trouble for you there, fool,” he muttered to himself as he headed back inside, but a part of him refused to heed any advice, actually anticipated running right after that trouble until it was caught.

If He's Daring (wherlockes) by Hammah Howell

Overview by Amazon:
Stealing a stranger's carriage is the second most reckless thing Lady Catrin Gryffin de Warrene has ever done. The first is succumbing to her powerful attraction to the carriage's owner. Catrin has heard the rumours about Sir Orion Wherlocke's family and their otherworldly gifts. He's the one person who can keep her son and his inheritance safe from her late husband's ruthless brother. As for how to protect herself...it may be too late for that. Orion is facing the worst danger a man of his ilk can find: a woman he can't walk away from. Catrin is an intoxicating blend of innocence and sensuality, and for the first time, seduction is far more than a game. But her beauty and fortune have made her a target - one that will dare him to risk everything he's known - in pursuit of everything he's ever longed for...

The trouble with reading a book that's part of a series without reading the others is that you have to play catch up a lot. Although there is a lot in the book that would be explained by reading the rest of the series, it was still an excellent read and can be done as a stand alone.

The story starts with the abduction of Catryn's son Alywn. She's frantic to get him back from her former brother in law Morris. She chases him through London but is foiled by a lame horse. She then steals a carriage standing ready outside a home. She continues her pursuit not knowing that a young boy Giles is tucked away inside.

Giles father Orion is not pleased. He had plans for the carriage and now has to hunt down his runaway property and son. When he catches up with Catryn the story gets interesting. We learn that Orion and his son possess 'gifts' such as feeling others emotions and tracking a person. The whole family apparently has different powers - all different but powerful. This is an element of the supernatural, but it was believable and is key to the plot.

It turns out that Catryn and her son also have gifts. Catryn can sense danger and Alwyn can speak to the dead - a highly advanced skill. He has a powerful spirit guarding him and it helps you worry less about his predicament.

Orion trusts his son Giles' assessment that they need to help Catryn. He is also highly intrigued by her and also by her gift. He senses they are part of his extended family and it rouses his protective instincts. Catryn is widowed and beautiful. A combination that is tempting to Orion. He starts to lust for her and the close quarters of travelling together makes it easy to explore each other.

I enjoyed the chase to reclaim Alwyn. It had elements of suspense, ingenuity and triumph. Although they reclaim the boy, they still have to deal with the blackness of Morris. This leads from the country setting of his cousin to the crowded streets of London.

While they are racing to deal with Morris, Orion and Catryn explore the lust they feel for each other. Although Catryn is a widow, she has no real sexual experience and it was Orion's great privilege to explore the intimacies of love making with her. They are a fiery combination. The sex scenes felt right. They fit in with the plot line, they fit with the development of the relationship and how both characters were falling in love with each other. While not graphic to the point of blushing, things get pretty heated - but definitely in a great way. Orion is a caring and considerate lover. He is gentle and understanding of Catryn's ignorance and delights in teaching her how to reveal in the earthly delights between a man and woman.

Orion has three bastard sons who all possess gifts. Catryn is accepting of this when many other women of the time would be condemning. He sees to their care and makes fatherly choices for their upbringing. He is learning to be a father within this unusual family.

The final showdown with Morris is full of twists and turns. I didn't expect to hear about the sick and twisted things he did along with Catryn's husband Henry. Orion's love is a balm to the shocking news and she is able to cope and continue forward with life.

Orion and Catryn are a great match. I loved them together. I loved how it was a slow burn and they were fully aware of what they were doing when the consummated their relationship. They knew it was a big step. Even with a few misgivings as no intentions had been verbalized, the instinct to trust each other was imprinted on them.

The only challenge I had with this book was that the names were outbid the ordinary. Iago, Bened, Orion, Catryn. They took some getting used to. But it made the book feel a little magical. As if you were reading about an alternative reality of historical England.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I raced through reading to the end as I couldn't wait to see how it all turned out. It seems, even people who don't believe they deserve happy endings get them.

I really love Hannah Howell's Wherlocke series, there is something very likeable about the whole family with their quirks and their gifts. This is the sixth book in the series and frankly I hope Howell writes more of them because there is so many fascinating characters who should get their own story.

This story is about Lady Catrin Gryffin de Warrene and Orion wherlocke.

Lady Catrin is a widow and has a son Alwyn who get is kidnapped by her brother-in-law because Alwyn is the heir of his father's holdings. Catrin had a terrible marriage experience and the only good thing that came out of it was her son whom she loves very much. Catrin is a red head with the temper and a lioness with her cub but she's also a very kind-hearted and loving woman.

Orion is a part of the king's man. Sir Orion Wherlocke is like every other Wherlocke male a confirmed bachelor who doesn't want to get married because of their family's history of bad marriages and abonnement issues. He recently found that he has three sons, all which have lived a hard life on the streets before being taken in by Orion's cousin and is getting used to being a father. At the start Orion is very much a man from the society and the only things he cares about is his family and the duty to his king.

Orion and Catrin relationship is very much a slow burn, even though they are attracted to each other form the first moment they met each other, get to know each other, become friends and trust each other before they make a decision to be together. I really liked their romance and the development of their relationship especially since they are both loners at the start of the book.I really liked them together.

Almost throughout the book Orion and Catrin are travelling and trying to catch Morris, which I liked because it gave them a chance to be together throughout without other people interfering. The only thing I did not like was the circumstances and obviousness of the Alywn's parentage.

They are some serious issues in this story like the treatment of illegitimate children, adultery and murder but the author deals quite well with them and combats the whole seriousness of the issues with the other things in the book such as laughter, happiness and the love and loyalty of a family.

Overall how can you not love the quirky, different family and their family members with their gifts and loyalty to each other. I really enjoyed it, the story leaves you with a smile on your face and I am eagerly waiting for Mordred's book, he has been mentioned and being part of the cast for a couple of books now so I think it's about time he got his own book. Happy reading!

In a continuation of the Wherelocke family saga, author Hannah Howell once again creates a fabulous story of intrigue, jeopardy, desire, and what I consider some very fun moments. After Lady Catryn de Warren arrives home to discover her son kidnapped and her father bruised and battered, she immediately sets out to rescue her boy! When her elderly mare comes up lame she does what seems absolutely essential and steals a strangers carriage leaving her lame mare in trade. What she didn’t realize at the time was she stole more than a stranger’s carriage - inside resided the stranger’s son who was totally enjoying a new adventure. Cheeky little devil he was!

It didn’t take Sir Orion Wherelocke that long to track down his carriage and son, and Lady Catryn was immediately taken with the handsome devil, even knowing of the rumors associated with the Wherelocke family. He just might be the one person that could help her find her son and keep his inheritance safe from her ruthless brother-in-law.

*** Well this may be book six in the Wherelocke saga, but since reading book one and picking this one up I am completely smitten with this series. Can’t really categorize this series as paranormal, but the Wherelocke family sure as heck is fascinating and I absolutely love everything about them and have gone ahead and ordered every book in between that I need to catch up!

Lady Catryn was crafted beautifully, with strength, passion and loving protectiveness towards her son Alwyn. Not until the end of the book did the abuse Catryn suffered at the hands of her deceased husband come to the surface, which made me love Orion all the more with the love and protection he offered to Catryn. The sensual romance was dynamite, but with that said, what I truly enjoyed were the children especially Giles and Alwyn. Giles, the cheeky little devil, had me charmed from the very beginning, and young Alwyn (who talked to ghosts) and listened to his ‘father’ repeating everything he heard was truly a hoot!

As far as I’m concerned, the WHERELOCKE series is one I hope Hannah Howell never tires of writing about, because, I for one will never tire of reading about this magnificent and interesting family. The best in fantasy writing and one I can see myself re-reading at a later date.

I just found this book to be alright. I didn't particularly like the characters nor dislike it. The same goes with the story. It was just...there.

The story revolves around Catrin and Orion. Catrin's son was kidnapped by his uncle. Catrin gave chase by stealing Orion's carriage. Unfortunately for her, he had to catch her immediately because by stealing the carriage, she stole his son too. She gets caught and the justifications for her crime was revealed.

Orion ended up helping her because they suspected that her son was a Wherlocke. The story about that was that she was impregnated while she was drugged. Her husband was castrated when he bedded the wrong man's wife. It didn't stop him though since he preferred young men anyways. He died when he seduced the only son of a powerful man. He forgave a debt when a Wherlocke impregnated Catrin and killed him soon after.

Anyways, the uncle was after Catrin to marry him. He viewed the inheritance as his because Catrin's son wasn't really of the family's blood. He wanted to take control by having guardianship of her son, and by proxy, the fortune.

Things heat up just as Orion got involved. The Wherlocke's use their powers to avoid the worst possible outcome. They, at great risk, used her son to achieve the most favourable outcome. Since the uncle was superstitious, the boy's ability to talk to the dead spooked him and set him off his plans. He wasn't able to think clearly because he was scared.

Anyways, Catrin and Orion get together. Orion took weeks to come to her. He was straightening out his business with the government and decided to retire. He had too many people he cared about that could be used against him. He confessed his love for her, which was what she was waiting for in order to agree to the marriage.

My overall thoughts about this novel is mainly a question. Does everybody have to have a power? I mean, I think it would have been a more interesting dynamic for Catrin to not have powers. It would have made her acceptance of her son more powerful, further setting her apart from the other women. The Wherlocke blood was already there, by virtue of the father, so she didn't need to be the one that passed it down to her children.

If He’s Daring is an engaging historical romance with a strong paranormal twist.

Lady Catrin Grffin De Warren’s son is abducted by his uncle, an uncle hopes to gain control over his deceased brother’s estate. Catrin, without male protection, goes out on her own to retrieve her son. When her horse comes up lame, she steals a carriage… a carriage belonging to none other than Sir Orion Wherlocke.

Everything in Orion’s body is screaming to run as fast as he can away from Catrin. She intrigues him like no other woman before her. But his son convinces him otherwise.

I found If He’s Daring, extremely entertaining and quite humorous. The Wherlocke children make this series and in this book Orion’s youngest known son is marvelous.

Suspense filled mystery; magic and mayhem highlight the pages while an electrifying romance simmers in the background. Perfect read for anytime of the year, I recommend you don’t miss If He’s daring or any of the book in the Wherlocke series by Hannah Howell.

I dearly love the Wherlocke family saga and it continues with a bang. Hannah Howell has done it again with adventure, mystery, and of course romance. If you have read this series, your fantasy will come alive in this one. You have a hunky, handsome and terribly arrogant male by the name of Sir Orion Wherlocke. His family has secrets that are unknown to people of the ton and he likes that way. But being in the service to the King, he's about to be blindsided by a lovely, red haired woman who turns his world upside down. The woman in question, has just pointed a gun at his servant so that she can borrow Orions' carriage to chase down her brother in law who kidnapped her son. A captivating romantic intrigue!

This is a lively, different and satisfying read, with a touch of the supernatural.
Definitely not your normal Stuart period historical romance.
Fate kindly takes a hand when Lady Catryn Gryffin de Warrene, displaying the termagite tendencies only a mother fearing for her child's safety employs, takes unusual steps to pursue her son's kidnapper
Sir Orion Wherlocke was kind enough to leave his carriage ready for the purpose of pursuit. Though to be fair, he was inside his mansion at the time contemplating another sort of pursuit, of the charming widow variety.
Unfortunately Catryn did not know that Orion's son Giles was inside the carriage when she hijacked it.
So a long list of people all pursing each other begins this rather startling adventure.
There is something otherworldly about Catryn and her son Alwyn. Catryn has strong premonitions. Alwyn sees dead spirits.
Howell's well placed humour blends gratifying characters and a rollicking, adventurous storyline. Her sly sense of the comic adds immensely to the various situations our heroes find themselves in.
Catryn is strong, determined and ready to brave all for her son.
Orion is capable, slightly detached and ruthless when necessary, especially where his family is involved.
Two such strong forces are bound to ignite strong passions when they meet, like colliding stars they are incandescent.
As the story progresses deeper darker mysteries are unravelled, involving sibling rivalries and a renegade Wherlocke cousin.
Catryn discovers answers to many questions she has occasionally puzzled about.
The Wherlocke children are delightfully entertaining with their quaint mix of squabbling and the serious discussions.
I enjoyed Howell's writing immensely and have put her on my 'must read more of' watch list.

Been a while since I've read a book I couldn't put down. I've read the previous five in this series so I picked this up without even consulting Goodreads; the books have all been that good. I'm not disappointed. The series is about a family(ies) that have paranormal gifts. The hero in this episode is Sir Orion Wherlocke who has a gift for finding anyone or anything and the heroine is Lady Catryn Gryffin de Warrenne. The thread throughout the love story is her son Alwyn who has imaginary friends that he speaks to (or are they imaginary?) one of which he claims is his father, who is deceased. Orion's gift has deserted him when it comes to tracking the man who has kidnapped Alwyn which causes him grief. In addition, it appears Lady Catryn might be distantly related as she has a sense of foreboding. The story flows along at a quick pace. New family members are introduced which means there's cause to feel very happy about the chance of more stories in this series.

April 2017: This is a good series with lots of action and this book continues that. I am disappointed in the romance aspect because it lacks a genuine feel and is rushed more like a novella would be written. Despite that I have enjoyed the characters, all of them. There are lots of kids and they are integral to the story, not distracting. Sometimes there are TSTL moments like: Heroine has a premonition of harm happening to the hero and instead of warning him she sends him off on an unnecessary errand.

November 2018: See the above comments.

May 2022: Should probably get this in ebook like the rest.

If He's Daring by Hannah Howell is a first read win and I am giving my honest opinion. This tale is lovingly written. I like the time period. Makes it more believable. Lady Catryn Grudging de Warrenne comes home to find her father injured and her five year old son, Alwyn, kidnapped by his uncle, Morris de Warrenne. She sees to her father then gathers a bundle and a gun then gives chase. She spies the carriage but her horse goes lame. She sees another carriage waiting outside a townhouse and she steals the carriage. She chases after Morris and his henchmen. She sees the horses tiring so she lulls over to the side of the road. She is surprised to see a young lad in the carriage. He introduces himself as Giles Wherlocke. He is gifted in that he can feels others emotions. He knows she won't hurt him and she tells him that her son was kidnapped. Sir Orion Wherlocke comes out to find his carriage missing, gets his horse and gives chase. He finds Catryn and his son eating from the hamper his servants packed. He is taken in by her story and volunteers to help.Catryn tells him she fears for Alwyn because he holds conversations with dead people. Another gift that usually only those in his family have. Meet all the likeable characters and some not so nice people as you read this book. Will Orion find Alwyn?

I will be honest - I am not a big fan of heroes with illegitimate children. I would agree that it is probably more realistic to think that these rakish heroes who have slept their way thru the females of England would have at least one illegitimate child than to believe that they don't. But I still don't like it.

That said - I loved Orion and Catryn's story. I especially liked Orion's internal battle with his attraction to Catryn.

This book introduces us to yet more Wherlocke/Vaughn males and catches up with some old friends. I sincerely hope this series is not at an end. I want Modred, Iago, Bened and Gethin's stories!! Hopefully, they don't have a gaggle of children too.

Even though I am not a fan of heroes with illegitimate children, I really enjoyed the children in this book - Giles and Alwyn were priceless.

I thought the story moved along at a good pace and the writing was excellent. While I am not usually a fan of paranormal book - I have found this series fascinating and very well done - the paranormal is not over the top and doesn't distract from the romance.

I would recommend this book to anyone - you don't have to read from the beginning of the series to enjoy this book. But it would give you a better understanding of the family if you read the books in order.

Catrin and Orion. I am a sucker for this series and this was one of the more satisfying so far. Catrin has a piece of scum for a brother-in-law who has been trying to get custody of her son ever since her husband's death, as a way to control the wealth inherited by the boy. Finally he just up and abducts the boy heading for the coast. What follows is a mad chase through London and beyond. It probably would have ended quite badly for Catrin and her son, if she hadn't needed to steal/borrow Sir Orion's carriage in her pursuit of the villain. A carriage that also happens to have Orion's young bastard son in it (unbeknownst to Catrin). So off goes Orion chasing his carriage which is easy to follow as it is driven by a petite woman with crazy red hair, following a garishly painted carriage with a scared boy in the window. When Orion finally catches up to Catrin, he is convinced by his son to help her. He figures it will be easy, because tracking villains and figuring out their dastardly plots just happens to be his 'talent'. But of course it isn't as easy as he expected and not much is as it first seemed with more than one 'talent' adding to the intrigue. Orion is attracted to Catrin, but he is a stubborn bachelor and not about to change his ways. Forced to spend days in Catrin's company may be too much for him to resist!

I had a good time with this read. So many ups and downs from start to finish. It did make me laugh, giggle and smile. The story almost seemed like different books woven together yet the players were the same. A lot of paranormal elements infused with a cooky family is nothing but entertaining. Somehow this was able to work well with lessening the horrors of events that were present. Some of these things include a stolen child, kidnapping a mother, murder, rape and abandoning illegitimate children who were different - to name a few. But there was also good traits such as love, acceptance, growth, kindness, loyalty and a strong sense of unity.

Once again, Hannah saved me from a long, boring flight! I hate to travel and I deliberately save Hannah's books for when I need to fly somewhere because I can get so lost in the story that I forget I'm trapped on a sardine can.
If He's Daring takes you back to the Wherlockes family. I love this series and all the wonderful characters she has created.
Lady Catrin and Orion's story moves along swiftly and they tackle multiple obstacles together. I really enjoyed Orion's son in this too - the images of his smiling face waving to everyone from the carriage from the first few chapters made me grin.

I'm new to Hannah Howell's writing and won a copy on Goodreads. If He's Daring is a good strong historical romance. Catrin is one interesting spunky lady, and I liked her. The story has intrigue, love, betrayal, theft, passion, family secrets and all that good stuff that makes a story memorable. You want to know these characters, you get to like them. Hannah Howell has created a wonderful story with great characters.

Another great Wherlocke book by Hannah Howell. This one was really funny it started with the theft of Sir Orion's carrriage which was a common thing in the previous book. Just remembering that makes me smile . Also, Giles is really sweet kid. I have to mention too Aeddon , what a nice naughty ghost . Really enjoyable .

this is only my third read by this author and have determined she had a definite formula when it comes to her characters - the heroine is small, feisty and relatively innocent. The hero is rather one dimensional, a man whore with generally 3 plus illegitimate children hanging about. The heroine always accepts the kiddies and dismisses the manwhore's past as men will be men - seriously??????

the story of the kidnapped child and the stolen carriage was smart - but I could never connect with the characters or really delve into the plot. For my characters I generally want to be BFF's with the heroine and wish to pant after the alpha but sweet hero. Problem is I felt Catryn & Orion were rather superficial and lacked a connection with each other and with me, the reader. I despised how Orion kept kissing her on the forehead, like she was a small child, condescending git.
And Catryn's reaction to things just made no sense. When she contemplates the consequences of having an affair she is only concerned about her reputation, not once does she consider she might get pregnant by the potent manwhore (who didn't marry any of the other mothers - just saying).
Also, when she hears the news of what Morris, the brother-in-law did to her, she doesn't even blink... not once. Again, seriously??? It would have been more fitting for her to pick up a gun or to be thoroughly traumatised but she barely registers the news. It was jarring.

I just never really believed in a connection so the romance felt stilted and wooden. and the story plodded along but the stakes never felt real.
