"My name's Bradley. I'm eight and have cancer. I want to meet a Special Forces soldier more than anything. Well, almost anything. Having a family would be nice."
U.S. Air Force pararescue jumper Joel Montgomery promised to make a sick child's wish come true. Well, not the family part—not with Joel's past. And so despite vowing never to set foot back in Refuge, Illinois, Joel parachuted onto the boy's school lawn to a huge smile. But another smile unexpectedly stole Joel's that of Bradley's beautiful teacher, Amber Stanton, who was trying to adopt the boy. And trying to show Joel it was time for new vows.
The story line is good but the characters have problems. He does not respec her fear of heights repeatedly pushes her to do what she is afraid to do admits he wants to "fix her" She does not respect the fact that he with good reason is estranged from his faimily pushes him to try to get back together. Again she wants fo fix things. Dont see much hope for these two together without major counseling
This is the story of a U.S. Air Force Pararescue Jumper, Joel Montgomery, coming to grips with his broken past and helping a sick child get his most desired wish – that of a family.
While this Christian fiction story is heartwarming, it is also predictable. Joel fulfills the wish of a child with cancer by parachuting into the kid’s schoolyard, and then proceeds to fall for his beautiful teacher, Amber Stanton, who is trying to adopt the sick child. Joel and Amber each must overcome issues from their past before they can truly move forward.
This debut novel was an easy read with a happily-ever-after ending, but I prefer more flaws that provide depth and dimension to characters. Certainly they were Christians, but Joel and Amber seemed too perfect to feel real. Everyone was nice, polite, prim and proper, and that part felt contrived.

another book that i THOUGHT would be a quick, easy and lite read, but ...
was rather heavy at times. great mix, tho, of that along w/ great comic relief. i kept going from sobbing to laughing hysterically thru-out the story!
was based on what seemed like real down-to-earth people, tho, w/ definitely real problems, and ... altho there's a "happily ever after" ending, it took a lot to get there, so you also know it was more "real", and not some fairy tale that we can only dream about living ourselves
this book also, once again, made me realize just how much i take my freedom, and those who sacrifice their lives so we have that freedom, for granted!!! maybe my kids and i will adopt a soldier somehow.
I know the author personally, so that made me want to read this book. Plus, I have a brother who is serving overseas and that added to the curiosity in my wanting to read this book.
It was a great read and I found myself losing track of time when I was reading it. I can't wait to read Cheryl's other books.
4.5 The only reason for this rating is the beginning was a little hard to follow but then all was starting to make sense. It was very refreshing to read a story with no violence, no sex and no bad words. It was a Love Inspired edition and a truly wonderful story about having God in your life, love and forgiveness.
I think it is really wonderful book I enjoyed read it. This young boy show that he is not giving up . It shows hope, love and encourage one another. I recommend for military family should read it especially for Christian readers.
Cheryl Wyatt hasn't disappointed me yet. I have really enjoyed every book I have ever read of hers. I will be buying more of her books. I love the humor in this book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
I have to admit, I did tear up in a couple of spots. The soldier needed something to hold on to. He does take his career very seriously. It is fun to see the transition in the soldier for better.
A little to realistic for me. It was not a book I could just sit and relax with. It was a good story but not the quick fun romances I am used to from Love Inspired.
Loved the book..The story revolves around love, faith, and forgivness..The characters were strong and I love stories involving the military and adoption..The book had me laughing and crying..
