A dark paranormal/ fantasy romance from bestselling author, Sadie Kincaid.

Every few millennia, a child is born.
Some say they’re marked with a curse.
Others claim they possess the power of the ages.

Meet Ophelia Hart. Lover of classic literature and unicorns. An orphan with nobody in her corner—no family, no friends. But it’s her loneliness that fuels her life’s ambition to become a social worker and help the forgotten children just like her. For a foster kid with only slightly above-average grades, it feels like a pipe dream.

Except it seems that someone is looking out for Ophelia after all. When an unexpected opportunity to attend Montridge University arises, she thinks her life is finally taking a turn for the better.

Too bad she comes to the attention of the three ruthless, arrogant commanders of the Ruby Dragon Society. Three of the most feared and powerful vampires on campus.

But Ophelia doesn’t believe in vampires. Or in witches, or magic, or ancient prophecies.

Until she has no choice. Little does she know, she’s about to have her whole world turned upside down. Because there is something about Ophelia Hart. Something that captures not only the attention of the Ruby Dragon commanders, but also their powerful, enigmatic sire—Professor Alexandros Drakos.

With no idea of the power running through her veins, Ophelia must learn to trust the very men whom all others fear. And she needs to do it fast, for there are darker forces at work than those at Montridge University. Forces that were long ago Forged in Blood.

Forged in Blood is book one in a trilogy. Books 1 and 2 end on cliffhangers and book 3 is a HEA.

5 trashy stars ★

first of all this shit was hilarious 😭😭you can't tell me this whole thing wasn't satire. anywayssss it saved me from a reading slump and temporarily cured my depression. please enjoy me trying to justify why i gave this tomfoolery five stars

let me start with the good stuff
so we get three vampire boyfriends
and the boyfriends are boyfriends

Quick as a flash, Xavier has Malachi’s throat grasped in his hand. He tips his head back and runs his tongue along the vein in Malachi’s neck. My cock twitches in my jeans at the sight. They’ve always been so fucking hot together. “Let me bite you,” Xavier growls.

Xavier produces a switchblade from his pocket and runs his tongue the length of the blade. Blood pours from his mouth, and Axl grabs him by the hair and tips his head back. Then he devours him, growling hungrily as he takes Xavier’s mouth in a dominant, bruising kiss.

“I love fucking your tight ass, Kai,” he groans. “You are such a good boy for me.”

just bros being bros 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
we also get a super hot daddy professor

I loosen my grip on her throat, and she sucks in a ragged breath. “Please tell me, Professor.”

i have 100 plus highlights because everyone in this book was super horny and i loved it 😞😞

now if you've made it this far your probably wondering why i said it was hilarious ... so lets move onto the bad stuff

starting with the fmc ophelia

“I can already see a wet spot on your adorable unicorn panties, Cupcake.”

i'm sorry but what in the a.r. taboo is this????

i think ophelia must be the weakest fmc to ever exist. i'm not exaggerating when i say she was crying every.single.chapter. 😒😒😒 she was so pathetic i was cackling!! and she was stuttering at everything y y yes p p please 😭😭😭 she was so dumb i had to laugh

also i know they are vampires but did he really have to say this 😭 like was this super necessary

“Do you wear tampons, Cupcake?” He licks his lips. “I’m gonna need them when you’re done.” “Yeah. I’m gonna freeze them and suck on ’em like popsicles.”

lets talk about the dialog ‘jerkwads’ and ‘numbnuts’ never in my life have i read something this bad and cringey 😭😭 don't even fucking get me started on the nickname cupcake

sadie must have been smoking some good shit when she wrote this

so why did i rate this 5 stars???
because it gave me insane brainrot 😀😀😀😀
and it's been a minute since i had so much fun with a book even if it was terrible

To start off, I will say that I’m super bummed out that I did not love this book. Sadie Kincaid has written some of my favorite books. The entire New York Ruthless series…obsessed! Freaking Lorenzo from the Chicago Ruthless series. So freaking good! So when I heard Sadie was writing a paranormal romance, I was hyped. Vampires…yes please. Why choose…even better! But this book did not bring the drama and the suspense that you normally get with her books. It did bring the spice. So if you’re here for the spice but don’t care so much for the plot then you will probably love this. However, the spice doesn’t slap when you don’t like the characters, and that is where I’m at. There was a lot wrong with this book. So let’s just get into it.

This book is a bully romance. I can get down with a bully romance when the FMC is fierce and strong and the romance is earned. A great example of a bully romance done right (for me) is Tory and Darius from Zodiac Academy. If you have read this series then you know. If not…the quick and dirty run down is Darius is Tory’s bully. He torments her, makes her feel like a pile of shit. Yet, Tory is strong willed and not easily broken. She takes it all with her head held high and throws shit right back at him. Then when they become fated mates, she’s like hell no you’ve treated me like garbage and he’s like oh crap I really messed it all up. Then they go through hell and he proves to her that his love is legit and they fight long and hard to be together…aaand you will have to read the books to see how things end but it’s gripping and dramatic.

In this story our FMC is Ophelia. O-Ophelia. She is…dare I say….pathetic. She’s so weak and insecure. Her stutter drove me nuts. Wh-what? P-please. Y-yes. Oh my God, I wanted to launch my phone at the wall reading that so many times. And she cries….a lot.

Our MMCs are her bullies. Kai is not really a bully, he just goes along with the other two, so he’s a bully by association. The other two are serious bullies. They find pleasure in hurting Ophelia. Making her feel like crap puts a smile on their faces. It’s pretty fudged up how far they are willing to go to hurt her.

Then in a matter of seconds a flip switches and the guys are no longer bullies. They are sappy and in love. Seriously, zero hesitation throwing the L-bomb around. The characters did a complete 180 and I got freaking whiplash. The trouble is, the romance wasn’t earned. Not even a little bit. It’s just like boom, now you the reader are supposed to believe all these people are madly in love. I’m like, what?! This dude was just hoping to bang another chick for the soul purpose of making Ophelia cry and now I’m supposed to believe he’s so in love with her that he would never harm her? Yeah. No. Not buying it.

Then there’s the professor. He doesn’t have many interactions with Ophelia, but we are supposed to believe that their connection is somehow the strongest of all?! Again, not buying it. He’s not earned a single thing from her. How does she always get moon eyes over him when they have like two interactions. I don’t get it.

The drama was seriously lacking. One major point of contention was Ophelia’s interaction with a classmate. It was elementary bullshit and gets resolved early on. I thought maybe something about this girl would come back later and it would make sense why she bullied Ophelia, but it didn’t. I really really needed more drama.

The paranormal elements were there but not holding my attention. The story doesn’t give away much about what’s going on with the different magical creatures so that was a little disappointing. It’s a series so I understand drawing it out but I wish a little more was revealed in this book.

The smut as mentioned earlier is prevalent. However, I couldn’t enjoy it because I did not like these characters and I didn’t believe they liked each other. There was also one scene that made me want to vomit in reference to her period. I mean I get it, they are vampires but they go a step too far for me.

Ugh…alright. There you have it. I am sad to say that I didn’t like this book. So I’m gonna go curl up with the Ryan brothers to lift my spirits.

DNF at 55%….and that’s after I skimmed the last 20%. The first chapter was great and I was intrigued, then it all went completely terrible.

These are supposed to be college kids (with 100+ year old vampires) but the dialogue feels like a bunch of middle school kids talking to one another. Having spice thrown in with that was just uncomfortable considering I’m picturing immature kids one minute and then they’re all talking dirty the next….it doesn’t work.

Ophelia is not a likable character at all…I can’t stand FMCs that are beyond “shy” and just stare at the floor and cry every time someone barely hurts their feelings. Not to mention her love of unicorns?? These are supposed to be college kids?!? She’s also annoying and does in fact ask too many questions.

The male leads are all terrible as well. Every character in this book talks like a 13yr old saying things like “jerkwad” and “numb nuts” all the time (and I do mean All.The.Time👏🏻). They were introduced as the top guys on campus but I can’t for the life of me figure out how or why. They aren’t the only vampires or supernatural beings on campus and the author never made any mentions of what would make them better than anyone else? They seem like average looking douche-y boys (not men by any means).

I was also thrown by all the made up names of people and powers…it’s like the author just pulled them out of thin air and made them try to sound fantastical but they were actually all very cringe.

The initial storyline seemed interesting and I tried to keep going to see what happened but the whole thing was a mess and nothing seemed to flow or make much sense. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters and the plot was nonexistent.

3.75⭐️

Vampires, witches & werewolves all on one university campus? After an incredible prologue involving demons? Yep. I’m a huge fan.

Ophelia has been bullied her whole life, she wants a fresh start at uni, where she meets Malachi, Xavier and Axl (all vampires) and discovers the world is nothing like she thought. On top of that, Ophelia is special, but has no idea just how much yet

Tell me why this felt like I was reading a spicier episode of vampire diaries?! This was soooo much fun! It’s a bit insta lust (but I do understand with the bonds why) and some of the dialogue is cheesy. Let’s not ever write ‘dickwad’ as an insult ever again please, but honestly there is so much vampire lore in this it was so interesting and and easy, fun read. I would’ve given it 4 stars if a bit more happened in the plot but I can see how well it’s set up the rest of the series!

P.s. I want a Malachi 🥹🥹

Okay, this was SUCH a fun why choose vampire romance! The heroine has no idea who or what she is, and when she starts college, she quickly learns there's a paranormal world she had no idea existed. Three vampires are put in charge of keeping her safe, and they all lust after her (and her blood). This was just so entertaining and I had a lot of fun with the story! It's definitely over the top at times, but that's why I enjoyed it so much! I can't wait for the next book!!

3.5-3.75( I can’t decide right now)

Okay, I’m not gonna lie I had a good time with this one. But I also nearly DNF’d it at 10% purely from one of the MMCs calling her “cupcake” every other sentence. It was a lot.

This isn’t some revolutionary, move it to the top of your TBR masterpiece, but it is a vibe. And sometimes? We’re just out here chasing vibes. The dialogue, though... oof very cringe( hellfire, and fuck knuckles are at the top of that list ) and there were a few moments that were definitely not my cup of tea(the tampons in the freezer?? can someone confirm we’re joking😅) Still, I pushed through and ended up enjoying the ride.

Now, let’s talk about the spice. When there are vampires and bloodsucking involved, I’m gonna go full feral no question. Feeding is my kink BLAME DAMON SALVATORE. So I ate that part uppp 🥵Chef’s kiss. I liked all of the MMCs (except the professor… and I’m not sure if that’s on him or the narrator, but I’ve got my suspicions)👀👀

I’ll keep going with the series because I’m invested enough, but I’m not running to the next one. If you're in the mood for something why choose that’s easy, fun, and chaotic, with magic, witches, vampires, werewolves, and a sprinkle of unhingedness this might just be your jam.

YOUR NEW FANTASY OBSESSION, Sadie has ventured into the paranormal romance genre, and oh boy, I'm thrilled that she did! If you're a vampire enthusiast like me (seriously, no one loves them as much as I do - shh!), you're in for a treat. It's like Vampire Diaries meets Buffy, with gripping plot tension and sizzling character chemistry, I read this over two days I couldn't put it down, I'm eagerly hopping from one foot t'other in anticipation for the next book! It reminded of Zodiac Academy and Crescent City, mainly because our FMC likes unicorns and well...IYKYK, and also because of the bully romance and college setting and magical beings so if you like all those things you'll want to get your lil claws on it when it releases To quote the iconic Paris Hilton "that's hot."

Saying that this book was intense just really isn't good enough for it there's so much hair and they are such bad boys they are hot and very possessive. There's so much that's told in this book and at the very last two or three chapters gets to be just mind-blowing so I don't give up spoilers I want to say read it you won't regret it.

👨‍👧 Characters
Could I tell the male main characters apart? Honestly, NOPE. Except for maybe one or two, the rest were just spicy blobs of chaos. But did that stop me from enjoying them? Also nope. 🤣 They were unhinged, they were wild, and they delivered on the entertainment.

🌎 World-Building & Magic
Think vampire diary’s and twilight rolled into bonds that tie - The paranormal world is your classic witches, gods, and vampires scenario. Is it groundbreaking? No. But does it need to be? Also no. It’s like a good ol’ box of mac and cheese-basic, but comforting in its simplicity. Sometimes that’s all you need.

♥️ What I Loved
This book is pure, unhinged chaos, and I loved every ridiculous second of it. The spice? Absolutely insane. The duet narration on Audible? ICONIC. Let’s be real: if this hadn’t been an audiobook, I probably wouldn’t have read it. But as an audiobook? I was LIVING for the fast pace, the drama, the what the actual hell is going on moments.

There were scenes that made me scream, scenes that made me cringe (in a good way? I plead the 5th), and scenes that had me clutching my pearls. Like this little gem:

“Do you wear tampons, Cupcake?”
Her cheeks turn red. “Yes. Why?”
He licks his lips. “I’m gonna need them when you’re done. Yeah. I’m gonna freeze them and suck on ’em like popsicles.”

WHAT. THE. HELL. Was I horrified? Yes. Did I keep listening? Also yes. Am I okay? TBD. 🤣

Let’s be honest, you’re not here for the plot. You’re here for the spice, the chaos, and the sheer audacity! and this book DELIVERS.

💔 What I Didn’t Like
Okay, here’s the thing, could the execution have been better? Yes. YES. Could we have had more character development and some deeper relationship building? ABSOLUTELY. But honestly? I wasn’t really reading this for that. The plot didn’t need to be a masterpiece, it just needed to be wild. Which it was.

📝 Overall Thoughts
If you’re looking for a spicy, unhinged audiobook that will make you laugh, scream, and maybe question your life choices, THIS IS IT. It’s wild, it’s messy, and it’s a whole lot of fun. This is the only time I’ll recommend this book, and ONLY as an audiobook. 🤣

So this started off so bad honestly. Like really bad. But then it became good bad. Which like I had a feeling it would. I was honestly craving good bad so like slay! There were some hot scenes too which was a fun time and I do enjoy hot vampires. And I enjoyed the taboo blood scenes. Do I like any of the characters? No haha not yet. Malachi so far possibly. Miss main girl was actually the most annoying person ever written for like 65% of this then she got tolerable but not much better. The other guys are fine. But yeah this ended up behind fun and hey I’m going to continue obviously cause fun bad is my current craving. I would still love for her to grow a backbone and make men grovel tho. And plz them being like I love you as soon as they bonded cmon. Xavier and malachis sex scenes were fucking hot tho hehe. Anyways whoop whoop for bad good

dnf @ 10% — I don’t like bully romances. They make very little sense to me especially at their grown age in this book. Also only got 20 pages in and they said the phrase “biting her” like 50 times. And the whole thing of “I’m gonna walk into dangerous situations because I feel no fear so I’m horny instead” is a wild take.

Really disappointed with this one.
Sadie is one of my auto buy authors for dark/mafia etc romance but this paranormal outing was just not it hunny.
Minimal plot, weak worldbuilding, insta lust, unnecessary bully romance, pathetic FMC, undistinguishable MMCs, teacher/student privilege abuse. The list goes on about how weak i found this. It was too slow, too dragged out, not entertaining enough.
Fantasy gets a lot of stick but there really is an art to writing it that not everyone can do. Just moving your setting to include magical creatures does not make something magical and it really upset me that none of what i like about Sadie's writing was really prevalent here outside of the smut.
