Sometimes a wolf's gotta fight and growl and bite. But Erik? He just needs a mate.

Erik Danniken is the alpha of Jamesburg, a small town hidden from the world and full of shifters of all stripes. But underneath it all, he's just a muscled-up, rough-shod bad boy of a werewolf with a tattoo that goes all the way up his chest and sticks out the collar of his shirt. He's down to his last nerve, but he's willing to fight one last time... for the woman he loves.

Sometimes a girl needs romance and wine and sweet kisses. But Izzy? She just needs a job.

Isabel Taylor was more than a little frustrated when she answered a very vague job ad to be the personal assistant of a mayor in a town she didn't know existed. That was two years ago. Curvy, tough and with more than a little bit of a naughty streak, Izzy has long since gotten used to the weirdness of everyday life in Jamesburg... but she's fallen hard for Erik's rough charm.

Erik wants to claim her forever, marking Izzy as his honest-to-goodness mate. Izzy wants him to quit being such a coward and just come out and do it, but will a good old-fashioned small town scandal make them keep their love a secret, and in the process, kill it before it can grow?

Note: The Jamesburg Shifters is a series of standalone books. Each installment has its own hero and heroine, and the stories never cross over. Each novel or novella is a complete story, complete with happy-ever-after ending. Enjoy!

I got this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

From the first page we are thrown into the world of shifters, witch doctors, zombies and more. Izzy and Erik are already in a relationship when the story begins, in fact they have been in one for over a year. I felt like I was starting the book a few chapters in. I was a little confused about if the shifters were 'out' although I got the impression they weren't. Izzy also took most things with a grain of salt, like the shifter that uses his tongue to lick his eyeball, it don't even phase her, and I couldn't help but wish we were reading the story from when she moved into the town and learned all the stuff about the shifters. I just felt a bit left out.

There is a lot of sex. Izzy and Erik can't keep their hands off each other and often close themselves off several times a day to indulge themselves. The first half of the book is just sex with small scenes thrown in to build the sexual tension and then more sex. When we finally get some plot happening it is pretty anti climatic. Erik won't mark Izzy as his mate but he won't explain why and then the 'other' plot pops up and Erik doesn't take it seriously and then more sex followed by intense scene with Izzy and Erik. Then Izzy has a random heart to heart with a secondary character that came out of no where. The subplot is eventually brought to a happy conclusion and Erik and Izzy work out their issues but the whole thing felt a bit off.

I think what I missed was the character development. When the characters are literally ripping each others clothes off in the first chapter I don't feel very connected to them or their future happiness. The sex was very hot, Red can write a sex scene that could make a sailor blush but I wanted more from the story. The town was interesting, shifters of all kinds living together under one Alpha is an intriguing concept but I didn't feel there was enough story to back it up. I may try to read the next book in this series when it comes out.

This book was terrible start to finish. I agree with a lot of the other people who have written reviews, it seems like it started in the middle of the story, and didn't get any better from there. The h was so TSTL it was nearly comical. She was sooooo offended by being her bosses dirty little secret screw, but she did NOTHING about it. All it took was one look, one breath, one nudge in her direction from the H and all was forgiven IMMEDIATELY because right after that, sex. Lots of it. The h was so all over the place with her emotions it was like a swinging pendulum. She's so over people taking advantage of her, yet when her problems are brought forward she's instantly 'but ill understand if nothing changes', suuuuuuch bullshit. The conflict and conflict resolution (or lack there of) were so easily handled it was nearly pointless. Basically this book was a bunch of fast paced weird (not into the half shifted wolf man human girl intimate moments myself) sex. With some sentences thrown in here and there to pretend there's a plot. I would recommend this to no one. Ever.

A bunch of other people on here have said the other books in the series are much better than this one. But since none of them are free, Ill have to pass. This one was THAT annoying. I wouldn't want to spend money on another book if it was HALF this frustrating.

well, I like the writing style. the plot quite clear too, the storyline common like romance shifter. it have an adult content, with hot steamy sex everywhere but it did not bother the essence of the story (some adult books did that).

as for characters, I must say the female lead is not some whiny cry baby. in fact she is quite sassy. I like that. the male lead is like other lead in shifter story. dominant with a strong passion also possessive.

and the way author wrote this story made this book enjoyable.

I read the description for this book and it sounded like a good read. Since I knew it was part of a series I checked out the other books and they sounded good also. so I bought all the books to read. I love reading series and always looking for new ones to read and this looked like a good series. Boy was I wrong, at least as far as the first book is concerned. This book has got to be one of the most ridiculous books I have ever read. It is supposed to humorous but came off to me as just plain dumb. The storyline makes no sense, it jumps around confuses you about what is going on. It is unlike any shifter book I've ever read. I guess the author thought since it was a paranormal book and everything about it was fantasy then she could make up anything she wanted about shifters. Well I guess she could but it is mainly what makes the book ridiculous and hard to read. Yes, I know shifters aren't real but the author could have at least tried to follow the norm for a shifter book. I really, REALLY hope the other books are better. I will read the next book in the series since I have bought them all but if the second book is like the first then it will be the last one I read. I hope the author appreciates the sells cause that is all she is getting from me.

I am on the edge with this book, it was interesting but there was a bit if a drag. I guess I was looking for more action and the overall plot was iffy. I wasn't following the reason they could not be together and the whole turn of events was a bit off kilter.

It is all first person from Izzy's POV. I am not always keen on first person, so that took a bit of adjusting. It also limited things because you only get to know what she knows or others tell her. It made connecting with the hero more difficult. I really could not see where Erik was coming from and he only annoyed me when he did not stand up for her.

Things get smexy really quickly, we are almost two years into their relationship when the book kicks off. There are some uber hot scenes in the office, it will have you squirming in your seat! It is packed with heat that will have you ready for a cold shower.

I am willing to see what happens next in this series. I am intrigued by the quirky town and hope the world takes better shape as we move forward. The next book is a bear shifter and they are my weakness!!

So Erik he does things to the ladies, "I turned to see Erik's bright gold eyes flash. When he does that little thing with his eyes, it makes all my girl parts clench." He's not modest about it, "oh," he shook his dark hair from side to side and smiled at me, flashing his dimples and his eyes. "Sorry, didn't mean to do any charming." The boy has loads of sex appeal, "the way you were lookig at me with those side-eyes of yours, I could hardly control myself. I didn't give a s*** about anything going on in there for at least half the day. I've been thinking about this since lunch." Izzy has a temper on her, "so, what," I said pulling my dress together enough to keep it from falling open in the middle of everything. "We just keep pretending this isn't real? We just keep on acting like I'm your...what, your booty-call or something?" Erik really does have a one track mind, "nothing matters," he said. "Eff the town, to hell with everything else. All I want - all I need - is right here."

First of all, I've got to say that I loved this kind of town. It's a town with all kinds of Shifters and even a witch and what not. The more creatures that are in a story, the better I tend to like it. Erik is the wolf alpha of all, and his mate, Issy, is a human who came into town for a job two years earlier. At first I didn't like Erik because he seemed arrogant and disrespectful to the other people who attended his meetings. I enjoyed the lust that he had for Issy, and the sex was great and very, beastly. Loved it! :) I do enjoy this author's style because I've read some of her other books and they were phenomenal to me. I'm new at this whole ebook thing, but I find it's lots of fun. Anyway, this was an interesting read. The zombie take on things was very unique. I will be reading more from this series.

Erik is an alpha of an all-shifter town called Jamesburg and Izzy is the only pure-blood human in town, brought in as part of an outreach program. She's been sleeping with Erik for a year and a half...in fact, Erik has admitted that Izzy is his mate and she knows he loves her. Problem is, Erik won't openly claim her or admit to being with her because the town has a prejudice against humans and he'd lose a lot of his political clout if they knew. But he keeps promising he'll find a way. When a local witchdoctor reanimates the corpse of the previous alpha, who was betrayed by a human, these prejudices come into focus again, forcing Erik to posit the idea that he might never be able to reveal their relationship. Izzy is heartbroken, but equally determined to prove herself trustworthy in the town that has become home and to the man she loves.

Okay, this definitely has the sex going for it. Lots of sex, lots of raunchy, steamy, panty-dripping scenes and it's quite good. As for the plot, this was a bit more of a mess. I like the setting, with a town that has multiple shifter types in it and prejudice issues being so isolated from the human world. But a lot of the rules were kinda confusing and town interactions were just absolutely chaotic. As for the romance between Izzy and Erik, it felt like instead of developing, they just kept reverting to sex. This story starts in the middle of their relationship, so there's no falling in love and no UST, so it feels like I missed out on an important part of the relationship. And Erik's reasons for not telling the town seemed okay, until he started dithering about not trusting Izzy and then I started getting confused. Was it personal and him actually not trusting her to to be a thief or was it protecting his political position? And how is it that she was able to forgive either after their discussion? She ended up being a bit of a doormat. And I'm sorry, but I had to RME at the idea that in order to be fully mated, Izzy and Erik needed to have anal sex. Gah. That's what guys should tell girls to get it. I'll tune into another to see if things improve here - at least the stories are short (and available on KU). But if the next story has half as many grammatical and typing errors as this one did, I'm done.

Umm...not your typical shifter book

I've read a lot of shifter stories, but this was literally the strangest one that I have ever read.

First off the wolf, Erik, and his human lover for 2 years, Izzy, had a secret relationship going on. He was the Alpha, yet he was stringing her along the whole time telling her, soon he'd make her his mate. In reality, he wasn't going to do it.

According to a story about the previous Alpha, he mated with a human and she drove him to insanity and stole the towns money because she had So much mind control over him. When Izzy finally gets the story out of Erik, she's done with him being a coward and wasting 2 years of her life in him.

When Erik realizes that she's done with him and will move away, he wakes up to his skin to be reality. But Izzy has done research and found where all the missing money went, and the mate never took it. It was the town's council member, a witchdoctor, that did it, then he made up the while story about humans making shifters insane and casted A spell on the former Alpha to make him crazy.

A bit far-fetched. Even their mating ritual was weird. No biting, just other things.

This one is Wow!

I kept wondering through this whole book if they were going to get their happily ever after. Their chemistry was on point, but the outside influences were the issue. Then there was a whole other plot that made you wonder if things would all work out in the end. It is a must read.

Izzy sees an ad in the paper for a Secretary out of state in Jamestown. So she takes after 2 years of working in an all shifter town and her being human a liking to the alpha Erik. Erik wants her to be his mate, but sadly the last alpha to take a human mate went berserk. So they tried to band it. Great story line need to read I don't want to ruin it for you guys.

A town just for shifters, so why is this human there?

The main character starts out as loud, all fun and sex. He acts very immature. But by the end he has grown up. The end was a little anticlimactic for me.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a sizzling hot erotic read that was based around a really unique paranormal town. We dive right into the action and join a story in progress, which is usually one of my favorite ways to get information.

Izzy applied to an online job posting for a secretary position only to discover she will be assistant to the werewolf alpha of a town full of shifters and other paranormals. Always a bit of a weirdo herself, she blends in quite nicely and even gets sucked into a secret and steamy relationship with the aforementioned alpha. When a witchdoctor resurrects the last alpha and starts plotting against the town, some old prejudice rears its ugly head. Turn out; the last alpha was rumored to have gone crazy because he had a human mate. Izzy is forced to make a choice between the town and alpha that she loves and standing up for her feelings.

This story moved along almost too fast to follow. One minute we’re in a hot scene, the next we’re following a zombie around and learning about his past. We meet *a lot* of characters in a short amount of time, but I still felt somewhat connected to Izzy. The book also delivers a pretty naughty HEA.

DNF at 59%

*Book source ~ NetGalley

Erik Danniken is an Alpha, werewolf and mayor. Isabel “Izzy” Taylor is his secretary. And I use that term loosely. Izzy has been in Jamesburg in the boonies of the Appalachian Mountains for two years and she’s the only human in a town of assorted shifters. She and Erik have apparently been doing the hunka chunka every single moment of every single day for those two years. But Erik can’t claim her as his mate because she’s human and while the pack will turn a blind eye to a lover they will not accept a human for the Alpha’s mate. What are they going to do?

I have no idea what they did or how the pack reacted. I toughed it out to 59% and gave up. The writing style is very strange. Very disjointed, choppy and hard to follow. The characters are shallow and obsessed with each other. I mean, to the point that they can’t be in the same room with each other before heavy panting, bodily fluids, writhing and clothes ripping happens. There is an attempt at a plot, but by the time I got past all the ridiculous sex I really didn’t care about the zombie ex-Alpha. This is a new-to-me author, but I will not be trying anymore of her books.

Originally reviewed on These Pretty Words.

Couldn’t put it down.

This hot little novella was completely captivating from the very first word. I had a tough time deciding whether To Catch a Wolf should be posted under small words or naughty words, so don’t be surprised by the sexual content. It’s naughty…and steamy…and damned enjoyable.

Everything about Erik and Isabel is intense, from the way they sneak off to have a little private time to the way they work together to find out why the long-dead previous alpha is… no longer long-dead. Kind of. Forget the details – the plot was totally enjoyable, the secondary characters interesting and unique, and the overall storyline was spectacular. Quit reading my words and go read Lynn Red’s.

Four stars. It was 4.5 but the last two chapters pushed my suspension of disbelief past my limits. I don’t want to give anything away but really, I was clenching in sympathetic pain for a bit there. No no. BUT I will absolutely be looking for more from this series. Well written, enjoyable shifters. My favorite!

Alpha and Mayor of Jamesburg, Erik Danniken knows that his curvy and stunning assistant Isabel Taylor is his mate. Being in a mostly all shifter town though does not make it easy for them to trust a human, which Isabel is. Although Erik would mate her today if he could, he knows he has to ease the town into accepting his mate and with a past scandal that involved another human mate, it is an uphill battle.

Izzy grew up being treated as if she was not worthy and although Erik claims she is the one for him, his actions about keeping their affair secret is wearing on her. Ready to completely pull the plug, Izzy is about to leave town but with a zombie ex-alpha on the loose and Erik wavering on what to do, Izzy might just have to step in and fix the mess herself.

I liked portions of this one, but I did feel like there was some back story I was missing. I would have liked to read about how Izzy and Erik came together and why it is has taken a year and a half to act on the mating instinct. I would pick up another book for sure, I liked the idea of an all shifter town and the characters are quirky.

I think I must be on a roll because I have found yet another new author to follow! Ms Red is not an author I have previously heard of but I'm very impressed with this book by her. I love a shifter tale and if the author chooses to add some hot romance then I'm not going to complain! Add an interesting storyline and this reader is well and truly hooked!
This is a different sort of shifter romance to most that I have read and features shifters living together regardless of what they change into but only having one alpha and what a very sexy alpha Eric is! Add a human Izzy, who is more than just a tasty morsel and we have an alpha wolf who is positively salivating! Luckily Izzy is smart as well as being Eric's favourite dish and in spite of opposition and obstacles is going to catch the wily wolf.
What made this stand out and please bear in mind that it's quite a short book is the colourful range of characters that people this story. Loving the Idea of zombies stumbling around and the opening scene is hilarious! Different, sexy and funny! A writer to look out for, more please!

My first zombie book. I kid you not. This book has a witch doctor and a werebear zombie and I had sworn I wouldn't ever read zombie books. Once again proving that I should never say never.

I liked the people in this book. You get to meet many of the townsfolk and they are all quirky and interesting. The whole town except the heroine seems to be shifters of one sort or another, not just wolves. I can see many stories in the future for this town's people and I can already tell that I'm going to be reading this series faithfully. The 2 MCs and their romance are the focus of the story and I really appreciated Lynn's skill at revealing their characters mostly through action and not just telling.

I did want to smack the hero a few times and tell him to grow a pair but it was a necessary part of watching him grow and accept what love means to him. I can tell I'll be rereading this book and I look forward to the next in the series. I highly recommend this and you might also want to try Lynn's other series which is every bit as good, if not better, than this one.

Not sure how to start this review ... this is one of my favorite, newer (for me) authors, and I love The Jamesburg Shifters series. This is the 1st book of the series, but I read it out of order (like after 5 others). That was a good thing I think, as this book kind of jumped right into the story of a mixed couple (shifter & human) who were into a 1 1/2 year hidden relationship. A very nice, sexy, steamy relationship to be sure! But, no build up of the primary characters, no descriptions about why they are hiding their relationship and no background about the town they are in (an important mention) is all very slow coming to light. The story does pick up about 1/2 way through with more twists and surprise developments. There is good secondary character build up (important for future books).
All in all this was a good, sizzling, sexy, funny, quick read. I really have enjoyed the others in this series a lot more, so be sure to check them all out. Each book is a HAE & stand-alone, all within the fantastic town of Jamesburg!!

Izzy and Erik’s secret romance is at the heart of the story but there is a little intrigue involving a witchdoctor and a resurrected zombie Alpha bear (don’t get to say that every day). I think that Red does a good job of keeping everything in balance. She introduces us to our main character and does a great job of giving them the right amount of depth to keep us interested, but she also gives us entertaining secondary cast to help keep things light. She manages to bring in some tension with the zombie/witchdoctor plotline but it doesn’t overpower the main love story.

With an amusing supporting cast and an interesting main story line, To Catch a Wolf is a funny, super steamy, entertaining love story, just made for those that like a humorous paranormal twist to their romance.

I enjoyed this book which I found on netgalley, the characters were very interesting and story sweet.

I have to point out I wasn't keen how the book starts out, I wondered what was going on, but once out courtroom I managed to catch up!

Eric is the alpha werewolf and major of the town and izzy is his Pa, seeing to all his needs, his one sex mad wolf, and has a great characther I really took to him. Izzy is a human in a shifter town, they keep there relationship private as an alpha should never take human mate.....izzy is getting impatient though as fulfilling as there relationship is she wants more!

There is a back story about a zombie, but I didn't find that part very consuming, I enjoyed Eric and izzys developing relationship most.

Lots of sex in this book, they both can't get enough of each other.

An enjoyable read.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
After a year and a half of being the Mayor (and wolf alpha)’s dirty secret Izzy has had about enough. The purely human PA is in love with the big hairy lug and he says she is his forever mate but they can’t mate because of his position and the prejudice of his fellow shifters. Will Eric wolf up and do the right thing or will Izzy bail and drive him to suicide like the towns previous Mayor who is now a zombie?
This is a goofy, silly shifter story with lots of wacky characters for future installments. It is also chock full of hot sex. Note: As much as I love shifter stories and I do LOVE shifter stories it did hit one of my hot buttons as I am not a fan of shifted or partially shifted sex with a human. Just ewww.

ARC supplied by publisher, via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

A town hidden away from the outside world, populated by shifters, a necromancer and a batty old witch decide to advertise in the human world for a secretary to the mayor. Said mayor, Erik, is a werewolf shifter and Alpha of a very mixed bag of were animals including, and this made me really laugh, a werehedghog!

Along comes Izzy, a human, who applies for and gets the job. Well actually she gets more than a job as she also gets lots and lots of sex with Erik.

Interwoven into this story is a plot by the necromancer to bring back a former Alpha, a werebear, with the intention of syphoning off money from the bank.

Over all it was a fairly amusing, shortish, story that contained lots of sex scenes and finishes on a HEA.
