The Trouble Shooter Part 2

Rate this book
Axel, Ella and her parents boarded their Denver-bound train. And as it was the first time that they’d experienced the incredible speed of riding the rails, his fiancée and his future in-laws were anxiously waiting for the engineer to open the locomotive’s throttle.

As Axel watched Ella stare through the window in anticipation of seeing the outside world whiz by, he believed all of the danger and uncertainty were over. After Mortimer Peel’s trial, he and Ella would get married, start a family, and he’d continue his work as a private investigator and trouble shooter.

While most of his expectations would happen, the danger and uncertainty were certainly not over.

Most biographies start with birth and then roll through the years as they drift by but that would bore me to death, and I lived through it.

The interesting part of my life began on September 23rd, 1995 as we were driving back to Omaha after watching the Notre Dame - Texas game in South Bend with relatives. The #21 Irish beat the #13 ranked Longhorns 55-27; and in a real oddity, scored points in just about every way conceivable in the game of football. They scored touchdowns on passes and runs, kicked a field goal, intercepted a pass for a TD, returned a punt for a touchdown and even added two points for blocking a Texas extra point.

As we were driving along westbound I-80 somewhere in Illinois in our Jeep Cherokee, I absent-mindedly rubbed the left side of my neck under my chin.

My very astute wife asked, "What's wrong with your neck?"

Now I had been an Air Force medic for twelve years; and as evident in my descriptions of outlaws' agonizing deaths in my stories, have a good working knowledge of anatomy and physiology. But that knowledge is offset by being a guy and thinking that we all live forever. My neck lymph nodes had been enlarged for around three months when my wife asked that question.

I obfuscated as if I was a lawyer and replied, "Um, a few weeks or so." (Note: Twelve or thirteen weeks does qualify as a 'few' weeks if one chooses to be generous.)

"And what did the doctor say?"

"I'll ask him when we get back."

"Yes, you will."

I do not want to make my wife out to be a harpy or a nag, because she is neither. She's an incredibly patient woman who could only put up with so much stupidity by yours truly.

Three days later, after the doctor copped a quick feel of my lymph nodes, he said, "I don't know what it is, but I don't like it," which was an honest, albeit an imprecise diagnosis.

So, we trotted over to a local ENT specialist. She didn't like them either and took me into surgery a few days later where she yanked one out, so the lab could dice it and slice it, then look at it under a microscope.

The pathologist who looked at the cells through his microscope reported his findings as 'lymphoepithelioma'. That meant that it was a secondary tumor and there was a primary tumor somewhere else in my nasopharynx that was the original problem.

Back I went into the operating room where the ENT doctor did an extensive examination and found nothing. She was so sure of her reconnaissance of the back of my throat that she told me that the pathologist was wrong, and it was just a lymphoma.

Now, being a computer geek, even way back in the dark ages of the internet in '95, I did some searching and found that if the primary tumor wasn't found, then the survival rate plummeted to about a fifth of the already lousy survival rate for the advanced Stage IV cancer. My wife and I decided that a second opinion might be a good idea.

Off we went in her Jeep to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota as the lousy weather descended across the Midwest. It's been known to happen, you know.

They had a problem getting the doctor here to release the specimen she'd yanked out of my neck, which I thought was odd because I don't remember selling it and figured I still owned it. Anyway, they eventually got the lymph node, did their own peek and confirmed the pathologist's diagnosis.

It wasn't until Halloween in 1995 that they finally found the original little bugger. It was just a tiny bump in the back of my throat that must have been there for a long time before it sent its friends marching into my lymph nodes.

They wanted to treat the cancer there, but I opted to have it done in Omaha and was sent to the care of Doctor Patrick J. McKenna (a name you may recognize from Max). Doctor Mac was the perfect man for the job as he was very personable, optimistic, had a good sense of humor and wouldn't put up with my constant whining. It helped that he knew his job, too.

The entire series was a great read

I guess the only subject I would find any fault with is the kind set of the MC, Axle Neilson. He is depicted as a very nice person with a heart of !Gold but waits until someone shoots at him first. He waited for one thug to shoot.at hi. 3 times with a NICK In His leg . My thinking is that Mr Petit has never been shot at by someone with serious intent and if he has he is about as useless as fire on a bore hog in an actual combat situation . I believe the us Government told US soldiers to wait until
.they I are shot at before.shooting I believe Axles bravery was overrun by his stupidity by even allowing his enemy to get one shot at him. Even though the story was about a great representation of what a good man is against terrible self.centered peop!e In will not read another of his books or his stories as I am.well.aware of what it feels like to be shot at after living thru 2 very serious ambushes in Viet nam and more fire fights than I care to remember . when anyone starts to swing a rifle in direction and you wait for him or her to fire the rifle it would more than likely be the last.time for you to see anything . If someone breaks into my house and attempts to point a gun in my direction he or she should have probably had a conversation with Satan before coming thru the door to let him know they were on the way to bunk in hell . there is a difference in being nice and protecting yourself and those you care about . The majority of all men and women who have to kill anyone ,as often as the of do not remain nice .It changes you forever

Adel and Ella will definitely tug at your heartstrings from beginning to end!

Mr. Petit's outstanding series of unending excitement is, most definitely five stars worthy, as you will find yourselves riding along with this determined duo in their efforts to achieve their goals of life!
Some of the most endearing storylines I have had the opportunity to read, and I have read a few! There are no slowdowns throughout this compelling series of endearing adventures, as these two dedicated individuals will have you riding along with them, cover to cover! Too, the character selections are unsurpassed in their respective assignments from beginning to end! Just another exciting masterpiece by one if my favorite Authors!
Most definitely recommend this compelling series of endearing adventures to all readers, regardless of your normal reading desires! I assure you will find it hard to put the story aside until the final episode has been absorbed! The excitement only intensifys with each new adventure, and there are no slowdowns throughout the entire series of realistically
motivated entertainment at its very best!!!😃

The Trouble Shooter series 1 & 2

This was a good story and although sad it showed determination of a youngest at age 11 to start his journey in life. The premises of the story is the hatred and prejudices associated between the cattlemen and the “sod busters” farmers and what the actions of 1 man resulted in the telling of this story. Axel and Ella made a family in the end and it’s sad that Elsa was one of the victims of the Victorian age thinking that she was a pawn in her mother’s scheme to marry her daughter off instead of allowing for her to follow her heart and be there for Axel as she promised.

A little slow over the first 100 pages or so to brief the reader on where Troubleshooter left off. Once the story picks up it pace it's more intriguing. I felt like there was too much fluff and filler, as if there was an effort to maximize the page count. Still, I appreciate the outcome and the civility that came around eventually among some of the galoots involved. Those who read Troubleshooter 1 can enjoy this sequel. PKB

Fabulous author and fabulous books

Fabulous author and fabulous books! I've read several hundred books but my favorite are historical western novels. C. J. Pettit's books are my favorite. I've read them all and some more than once. I've read about the struggles you're having with your health. Thank you for giving the gift of your many novels. Blessings to you and your family!

PART 2 VERY ENJOYABLE CONCLUSION TO PART1 OF THE TROUBLE SHOOTER

I enjoyed reading both of these books look forward to reading them again. It will be several months before I get the opportunity because I have to work my way through his other 93 novels which I have read at least3-4 times. Mr Petit has spoiled me for other authors and just read his. When I finish one I go to the bottom of my list and start reading that one.

5 STARS, PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR, CATTLE

C.J. Petit gets 5 STARS for his exciting storyline of this wonderful western: The Trouble Shooter Part 2. Filled with great characters many carried over from Part 1.

This isn't as shoot-em-up as part 1 but there is still plenty of action packed. The story of Ax & Ella continues to evolve to give the readers a good view of how their lives will be lived.

Not my favorite

The trouble shooter book 1 and 2 were not as good as I normally expect. They were more like someone trying to write like C.J. Petit. The story was better at the beginning of part one but tried to cover too much ground an left a lot of time between child and adulthood. Over all just a plain vanilla western.

As Always A Great Work of Talent.

I actually purchased The Trouble Shooter part 1 again! So glad I did because So much of the first book had been read to fast and been forgotten. The Trouble Shooter part 2 was a nail biter. But the good guys always end up with the best rewards. I always enjoy C.j.s books no matter if the first time reading or the second or third.

Again I enjoyed one of CJ Petit books. He is on of my favorite
authos and again he proved why I enjoy reading his books.
I have now read 96 of his books and can't wait until the next
one comes out. The only problem I had was the time between
part one and part two. I only hope thar he keeps his novels
coming. Thanks CJ Petit.

outstanding

This was a great storyline coming out of Book 1.
Shows how all our actions matter, some for good consequences and some for bad consequences. Listening to the other person’s viewpoint is key to understanding. Some people are just plain evil and won’t change while others are good and look for the good in people.

Waiting for Book #95

Part 2 tied up any loose ends from Part 1 very well. Mr. Nielson, the sharpshooter, was able to solve many of the life threatening issues by using his brain rather than his gun. This is a quality of the main character in all of CJ Petit's books. They are great for anyone interested in historical fiction from the mid to late 1800's.

No this was not good.

When I see Petit I get his book. This book was not his type of writing. It is so redundant to say he opened a door -he bent over etc. Constantly and her asking what's next. BLA!

The over all story line is believable. One can anticipate future actions based on prior actions. A good mental picture is formed by the story line. I have always looked forward to Petit's works.

Interesting story and characters. Written well. The Axel story is sad but interesting. We find out what happened to the cowboy who caused it all. Recommended for all readers.

Diplomat

As Axel Nielsen carries out his duties as a private investigator he uses diplomacy as much and as well as he uses force to get the job done. A loving but head strong, stubborn wife sure makes an interesting story even more fun to read.

Good read

This book begins where book one ended. Axel and Ella marry, Mortimer Peel is assassinated, the Hillman and Jenson families receive the farms and buildings they were promised, and Axel solves other problems in between events.

An interesting series

A different kind of series with many twists and turns that makes the storyline rather unique. I enjoyed the two parts so far and wonder if there will be more to follow. Love the author and have read all of his books to date.

Not your best, Chris

There's an old saying: Nobody loves a smartass, and, sadly, that's exactly what Axel is. This is the only one of Petit's books-and I think I've read 'em all! - where I haven't liked the protagonist. Far too smug and too much of a cleverclogs for me!
Sorry.
