It was only supposed to be one night...until two pink lines changed everything.
Lexi It was completely out of character for me to be so reckless. Losing my parents at a young age and then growing up in the foster system made me closed off, but when my only friend asked me to go out to a club with her, I couldn’t say no. Little did I know that one decision would lead to meeting the sexiest man I’ve ever laid eyes on. I deserved to let loose and have a little fun for a change. So I did. All. Night. Long. But I know better than most how much reality can ruin something beautiful, so to preserve the memory of the best night of my life, I leave my handsome stranger with no note and no last name. Nothing but the memories of how perfectly our bodies fit together. Until two pink lines show up on a pregnancy test six weeks later and force me to re-evaluate my plans.
Tyler Six weeks after one of the hottest nights of my life, I’m losing hope that I’ll find her. I’ve exhausted all attempts, short of hiring a PI, which even my friends tell me is going too far. I'm one of the best football players in the league with nearly unlimited resources. If I can't find her, maybe it's time to admit that she doesn't want to be found. With no choice but to accept that she’s gone without a trace, I’ve all but given up hope. Until my doorman says he turned a woman away. I’m pissed and desperate to find her. My wish comes true when she shows up again the next day and drops a huge bomb I never saw coming. Admittedly, I don’t have the best response to her news. Now, I’ve got to prove to her that I’m in this for her–and not just our baby. But will she believe me when someone close to me ends up causing the biggest threat to our relationship?
This is a steamy accidental pregnancy sports romance. It is book 7 in the LA Wolves Football series but can be read as a standalone.
Cadence Keys writes steamy contemporary sports romances about complex alpha males and the women who love them. She loves football, coffee, and watching Gilmore Girl marathons. She has been writing for almost a decade, but only recently got the gumption to really do something with her work. She looks forward to publishing many more novels, specifically her LA Wolves series.
Eighth grade English teacher Lexi reluctantly agrees to go out on the town with her friend Blaire. While out, she and Blaire are joined by two extremely good looking men, but Lexi only has eyes for one: Ty.
Professional football player Ty is captivated by Lexi immediately upon seeing her. She agrees to go home with him where they have sex several times.
Lexi steals away in the early morning hours while Ty sleeps. She fully expects to never see Ty again, and it seems a foregone conclusion as they never exchanged last names or phone numbers.
Six weeks later, Lexi finds out their night together resulted in a lifetime connection.
This book featured my least favorite trope: the surprise/unplanned pregnancy. I dislike this plot device because generally speaking it’s rarely done well, and in this case it’s right at the start of the book, and there’s no meaningful interaction between the MCs other than their one time encounter. The way it’s handled, in Ty’s initial incredulous reaction to being told he’s going to be a father, then the immediate shift to acceptance moments later with almost no explanation other than he just “knew” she was telling the truth? It’s just an uninspired choice by the writer. My second least favorite trope is just that: “she’s not like other women”. Ugh. IRL when a guy says that it’s a massive red flag, not to mention utter trash.
The rest of the book centers around Ty working to convince Lexi he’s all in and backstory of how Lexi became the way she is.
I was furnished an advance reader copy from the author and bookfunnel, and I’m sharing my honest review.
I am through out confused one moment he loves the Fmc and still doesn't trust her.
They both had zero chemistry and Fmc way too forgiving.
Particularly the scene where the MMC manipulated her into taking a paternity test by claiming it was for media reasons, when in fact the real reason was his brother's constant doubts about her, which she remained unaware of. The MMC lacked the courage to simply tell him to back off.
I value privacy in every relationship, so it's odd that the Mmc shares everything with friends and family while the Fmc knows nothing about him, his thoughts, status of their relationship etc. It's quite silly. Damn Communication thing !!!!
I disapproved of how he treated her at his friend's house, especially when she was overwhelmed and uncomfortable. His reaction was rude, and she kept apologizing for feeling uneasy. Why do you apologize for being uncomfortable? Throughout the book, I felt that the H believed the FMC was a gold digger who trapped him. Damn that paternity test.
First date - the worst. Love confession - even worse. H fell first but was too cowardly to confess; she revealed her feelings first.
I don't recall any scene where H appeared worthy of her; he felt a bit toxic.

I feel like a portion of my rating can be based on false advertising. The things I read that made me want to read this showed it as an accidental pregnancy, the betrayal, with expected d grovel after. Unfortunately, there was one page of this out of the 302 listed for this book. The pages leading up to are about the hook up, understandably. The rest was just a bunch about two really insecure people with quite a bit of internal angst. I also think that Tanner got off easy.
I wish that the entire book wasn’t just Lexi being so insecure. I was totally with it but when she backpedaled so much at like 80% I just got annoyed. You had no reason to think he didn’t love you. He literally says it actually nonstop. What the brother did was totally crazy and unforgivable though, that would not have been resolved for me in like two weeks. Maybe could’ve been 3 stars? The instalove/ott thing doesn’t really bother me, but the self doubt stuff just dragged on for waayyyyyy too long.

I loved the concept of this book, but was disappointed to see that the author told us more about the characters instead of having them show us with their words and actions.
I was so incredibly irritated by the "not like other girls" micro-trope. It's 2025, can't we just all agree that women are freaking MAGIC and stop putting women against each other---especially in a female dominated space?!?!
I'm not a stranger to (sports) romance, but the amount of insta-love in this made it difficult to suspend disbelief.
There is a side character in this whose wife had died prior to the start of the book. He was waaaay too understanding about the MMC's sense of loss over a ONS...those are NOT the same thing.
I came for the angst/hurt/comfort...and the surprise baby, and yet was disappointed by the execution.
Could’ve been 3-4 stars but I just couldn’t get over what the bro did?? And how they got passed it in the end? I personally would’ve never forgiven him. Also it felt like trust was lacking until the very end. I did like the heroine for most of the book though!!
OOOOKAY! I have to say, this is my first book by Cadence Keys, and she definitely did not disappoint.
First off, Lexi, she has been through literal hell and back, but for her to be a bad ass, strong, independent, and caring woman after everything she’s been through was powerful. I could definitely relate to her hesitance about things being too good to be true. That’s real life shit, especially with her broken childhood, the trauma and her past. She had her walls up for good reason. From the first chapter I was hooked completely, and as soon as she met Ty I just knew he was going to be the guy ever, the one girls would swooned over, not because he was a professional football player. But because of how much he tried to pursue Lexi and didn’t give a damn what his friends thought. Especially his big brother he so much looked up too (piss off tannor) lol. the way he perused Lexi and was always there to show her his reassurance and his love was beautiful. He loved her so unconditionally, so raw, so unapologetically. The way this story played out would be every woman’s dream, but in this day and time seems unrealistic. the way Cadence wrote this story made me think that the good guys still exist. I absolutely loved watching Lex let her walls fall but still guarded them at an arms length, watching her realize she is capable of love and Ty was the one willing to show her no matter what hell he had to go through made my heart melt. This story was beautiful, & Lexi & Ty are now one of my favorite book couples 🫶🏽
Lexi is an eighth grade English teacher. Lexi lost her adoptive parents when she was five and no one else wanted her so she was put in the foster care system. She had a terrible time in foster care. Lexi has one friend Blaire, who worked hard to get past Lexi’s shields. Lexi and Blaire are at a club when Blaire tells Lexi there are two sexy guys walking towards them. They ask Blaire and Lexi to go to the VIP lounge. Lexi can’t believe how gorgeous the guy who is very interested in her. Tyler is a part of the Fierce Four who play on defense for the LA Wolves. Tyler is out with his cousin Devon when he sees the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. Ty and Lexi spend the night dancing and drinking and talking. He asks if she wants to go to his place. Lexi is nervous but she really wants to be with Ty, just one night. Ty and Lexi have an awesome night, Lexi has no idea who Ty is. Lexi sneaks out the next morning, she doesn’t want to go but she is afraid that Ty will reject her. Tyler has been trying to find Lexi ever since she left. Lexi finds out that she is pregnant weeks later. She doesn’t know how to get in contact with Tyler except for the building they went to. Lexi goes to Ty’s building and is turned away by the doorman, he thinks she is a fan trying to get in to see Ty. Ty is getting desperate to find Lexi so when his doorman informs him that a woman was there and Tyler sees Lexi on the camera he gets a little irritated and tells the man to let her up anytime she comes. Lexi feels humiliated by being turned away and she feels unwanted. Blaire talks Lexi into going back to the building and she finally gets to see Ty and he is ecstatic. Tyler wants to take Lexi on a date so they go for pizza. When Lexi tells Ty she is pregnant he doesn’t take it very well and she leaves the restaurant. Lexi has had negative thoughts in her head since she was in foster care and she immediately thinks Tyler doesn’t want her. Ty’s immediate thoughts are that she is a gold digger but that doesn’t feel right. Ty’s brother Tanner tells him to get a paternity test. Ty has felt like Lexi was the only woman for him since their night together. Ty and his teammates go to the school that Lexi teaches at just so Ty can prove to Lexi that he does want to get to know her more. Ty and Lexi start seeing each other and then Lexi moves in with Ty. Ty takes Lexi to his parents house for Thanksgiving and Ty’s mom Tina is very welcoming to Lexi, so is his dad Tim and his younger brother Taron, Tanner never showed up because he thinks Ty is making a mistake in trusting Lexi. Things are going great between Ty and Lexi. He will do anything for her. They get the results of the paternity test and then their phones blowup. There are articles about Lexi from when she was in foster care. Lexi hadn’t ever told anybody the extent of what happened to her in foster care and now it’s all out there for the world to see. She ends up going to Blaire’s place. Who gave the press this information that has done a lot of damage already? Will Lexi lose her job? Will the stress cause her to go into labor? Will Ty and Lexi finally be able to have a happy life together? Will Ty and Lexi find love and happiness? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book via BookFunnel.
The mmc was a bit weak at first and listened to other people too much, & the mfc has way too many hang ups.
Lexi is a school teacher who doesn’t follow sports, so when she meets Ty she has no clue he’s a famous footballer. (Hmm..) I’m not actually sure that I believe that. I don’t follow sports but I know who all the sports players are as they’re everywhere. It’s on the news, social media etc and I’m not sure I believe that she didn’t have a clue who he was. Lexi had a horrific childhood and has major hang ups about men and not being good enough. Her constantly convincing herself all the way through the book that he only wants her baby is annoying. Ty is instantly smitten with Lexi and after a one night stand is so disappointed that she disappears, that he spends a month searching for her. I’m not sure how he was actually looking for her as he only had her first name! When Lexi finds out she’s pregnant with his baby, she meets up with Ty and at first he’s over the moon that she’s turned up, but that quickly turns to anger when he finds out about the baby. He accuses her of being after his money, and that the baby isn’t his. That theme continues throughout the whole book as he doubts her on and off that it’s his baby. He tells her he loves her, but he doesn’t trust her and I got annoyed with him. As Lexi has shown that she didn’t like him to spend his money on her, she doesn’t want that side of him, yet he still doubts that the baby is his at times, and wants a paternity test. 😡😡
I’m a bit torn about this book because in parts I did really enjoy it, but there were a lot of negatives. A lot of the plots are written about later when it’s already happened and it’s so disappointing. I wanted to read about it when it was actually happening not later when it was over. Ty has major trust issues as he was used by a woman who just wanted his fame, and he doesn’t really trust Lexi till right at the end. He’s very easily manipulated by his brother who thinks Lexi is a gold digger and that her baby isn’t Ty’s. It’s so ridiculous at times as the brother won’t even meet Lexi and is determined to destroy her. Personally I couldn’t have forgiven his brother for what he did, or so easily. He set out to destroy her and succeeded.
Then there’s Lexi. Lexi has major trauma from her childhood and she finds it so difficult to open up to anyone in her life. She’s also way to quick to think the worst of Ty. No matter how many times he tells her he loves her, and was looking for her before he knew she was pregnant.
I did enjoy it, but there’s so much missing from it that I feel like it ended halfway through. Also pretty much the whole book is about their insecurities, feelings and the pregnancy. I would have liked to have got to know people more.
Closing the Distance, Book 7 of the LA Wolves Football series, was about 27-year-old Lexi Kemper, an 8th-grade English teacher, and 27-year-old Tyler Russell, a famous NFL football player for the local team.
Tyler and Lexi met at a club and spent the night together. Several hours later, she slipped out while he was asleep and disappeared. He knew her first name and that she was a teacher, but nothing more. She knew his first name...and nothing more. Because she didn't recognize him for being a famous footballer, he decided to keep his identity a secret. A month passed and he couldn't stop thinking about her, but he had no way to find her since he only knew her first name.
Six weeks after hooking up with Tyler, Lexi discovered she was pregnant from their time together. Her first attempt to see Ty and tell him was met with the doorman at his apartment building harshly turning her away. But her BFF (and fellow teacher) convinced her to return, so she attempted to see him again the next day. This time, she was told he was willing to see her (what she didn't know was that the doorman had told Tyler the previous day that she had been there and how he'd told her off. Once his job had been threatened, he knew better than to turn her away again.). Before she could tell him about the baby, he asked if he could take her out to eat. Once they were at the restaurant, she told him she was pregnant, and his reaction was one of disbelief and disappointment, on top of anger. When he asked her when she learned about him (being famous), she said being there was a mistake, got up, and left without another word. He knew then that he was mistaken in his thoughts about her.
While this story had plenty of angst, drama, and spicy scenes, most of the conflicts and their resolutions were mainly done off-page. This was unfortunate as the reader wasn't able to see HOW things got resolved. We were told they would be...and then we were told they had already been resolved. That was a big let-down for me as I like to see in words HOW they get resolved. Otherwise, it feels like they just got pushed aside and forgotten. With this story, that was a huge problem because the resolutions should have been on-page. How else does the reader know that certain things are going to work out?
Both of the main characters were fully developed and mature, with plenty of room for growth. Unfortunately, the growing was left mainly off-page too, even with the book being over 40 chapters long.
I would have given this book a higher rating, but since it had more fluff than it needed, and it didn't allow the reader to watch things play out in words, it only deserved a three-star rating.
Closing the Distance is the penultimate book in Cadence Key’s LA Wolves series. I’ve read the first 6 books and was happy to get my hands on this one too.
Tyler is a pro football player who is a well-known member of the LA Wolves’ Fierce Four. He’s with his cousin at a club when he meets Lexi. She’s a beautiful and unassuming middle school teacher who has no idea who he is or what he does for a living. He’s tired of people just wanting something from him, so she is a breath of fresh air. Lexi is there with friends to let loose after a rough day at work. Their chemistry is undeniable and leads to a night of passion. As wonderful as it was, Lexi believes it was only meant to be one night and she leaves before Ty wakes up. She doesn’t leave any contact information, so he’s left wanting more from his mysterious Lexi.
Weeks go by with no signs of her. He’s tried everything short of hiring a private detective to find her. His friends convince him it’s not meant to be, and he gives up so he can focus on the new season. This is when Lexi returns. He excitedly thinks that she feels the same and wants more, but he’s shocked when Lexi tells him she’s pregnant and he’s the father. He doesn’t react well to the news and accuses her of trying to trap him. He immediately realizes that’s the wrong conclusion and quickly goes into grovel mode. Lexi had a rough childhood losing her parents at a young age and grew up in the foster care system. She’s learned that the only person who will take care of her is her and trust is hard earned. Her childhood was the opposite of Ty’s. He grew up in a nuclear family with two brothers and loving parents that are still together. Once he made the decision that Lexi and the baby were it for him, Ty was all in. He was there to support her through the ups and downs of pregnancy. Slowly but surely, he’s able to earn her trust and love. Even when things go sideways and their relationship is threatened, they are able to weather the storm and trust each other to be there for them in good times and bad.
Closing the Distance was another well written story by the author. The characters showed growth both individually as a couple throughout the book. I loved getting to read more about the couples in the prior books, but the story works as a standalone if you haven’t read the other books in the series. I’m sad that the series is about to end, but I’m looking forward to reading the final book as I’m sure it will be just as good as the first 7. I highly recommend this if you’re looking to read a surprise pregnancy/sports romance book.
It was fine. It’s was nothing that blew my mind or made me kick my feet because it was so funny. (Possible spoilers ahead)
h is a teacher who has a very bland life. She grew up in foster care, so she doesn’t trust many. She has ONE friend.
H is a football player. Successful and has a great family.
H and h meet at a bar and have an aMaZInG ONS. She leaves before he wakes. He searches for her for a month. She found out she was pregnant.
This is where it all gets a little yuck. He says some nasty things to her when she tells him. Calls her a gold digger, etc….🤨
Then he quickly apologizes and wants to be with her. She has a lot of doubts (ya think?)
H’s brother is on him all the time about how h is just using him and he should get a paternity test.
You can tell H wants a paternity test, except he’s scared it will ruin the steps he’s made with her. So essentially he does NOT trust her. He comes up with some lame excuse and tells her it’s in case of the media 🤪😩 DUDE, just tell her ffs. 🤦♀️
H’s arsehole brother is still running his mouth. I really wanted to poke his eye out. The brother literally hired a PI to dig into her past. She was arrested once for stealing when she was 16. That was it.
During all this, her school principal and some of the teachers are still stuck in 1940 where they look down on pregnant women who are not married (idk why h didn’t speak to her union rep)
The arsehole brother does the most sane thing ever and he releases all the gossip about h and H to the media. At this point, h is 32 weeks pregnant. This media dump causes a 3rd act breakup because “she thinks she’s unlovable” 😩 The media is ruthless slinging mud at h. She even gets suspended from her job (I just didn’t understand what was so bad about her past)
h goes into premature labor and has to have an emergency C-section.
The arsehole brother has the nerve to show up at the hospital. H rips into him. A few days later, he does go talk to his brother. The brother had a bad experience with a woman and that left him jaded. Ummm. NOPE! That’s no excuse.
I’m sorry but the arsehole brother ruined a lot of this for me. His behavior was OTT and he had very little punishment for his actions. The facts that his parents didn’t step in just confused me. From H’s POV, we do know he doesn’t know if he’ll ever be as close to his brother again, but he’s willing to try. 🤦♀️
I don't even know where to start with this review. I got hooked on an ad for this book that made this seem like a she fell first, he fell harder. That there would be angst. Well the quoting they took from the book was at the 80% mark. The preview for the book? Pretty much the same thing. The FMC has no depth, all she brings to the table is the fact that she had no clue who the football player was and her trauma that's it. The whole book is about the MMC going above and beyond for her, being so gentle and kind and understanding, wanting to get to know her and live a life with her and telling her he loves her and cares for her, and the FMC just being whiny and creating multiple situations that don't exist. We get it, she's insecure, but the MMC literally couldn't do anything more to tell and show her that she isn't what she's insecure about. After spending almost the whole book in bliss and whiny land, you reach the climax of the story, where everyone is just delusional. The author wants to put blame on the MMC when it doesn't belong there, the FMC shuts out the MMC and once again, creates a situation that isn't true and how she jumped off that bridge of conclusion I have no idea. Because he literally told her I love you and she jumped to he only cares about the baby not me, I'm unlovable I'll just trauma dump on my child/over compensate. Lord I knew at 20% this book wasn't going to be what it was advertised to be but this was bad. I kept pushing and pushing through. How much can a FMC whine? Are you tired of me whining in this review about it? Then don't read the book because she tops it. Literally, EVERY. SINGLE. CHAPTER. And then she doesn't share about herself with the MMC and gets mad when she didn't know about one thing he collects and blames it on him, WHEN THEY LIVE TOGETHER AND SHE COULD CLEARLY SEE, except she does jack all to support the MMC it's all about her and her wants and selfishness. MMC is picture perfect/absolute saint. Really created a dream guy here that just gives 110% and defends to the end of the earth and asks for literal nothing in return.
I read this in basically one sitting. It was so incredibly easy to read and the story line just melted my heart. It brought me to tears with the angst but I’m so content with the ending. Honestly adored this book.
Ty was so caring and kind and considerate towards Lexi and he was like the best book boyfriend. He was so cute. The character development was a little off putting though because I couldn’t fully get a good picture of him in my mind. However, the plot development really tipped the scales with how good it was.
Lexi’s story was just heart wrenching. I can’t believe her foster brother would physically hurt her and threaten her. Like, excuse me, she is the sweetest human being and you’re just gonna pick on her because your life just isn’t that great? Heck nah. When Ty found the cigarette scar on the back of her neck, that nearly brought me to tears.
Lexi’s character development also wasn’t the best because we didn’t find out, specific example, her hair was black until like the 7th chapter or something a little too far along. But she was a beautiful character.
Also, that doorman was an A hole. Why would he not let her up to see Ty when she found she was pregnant? I don’t get some people because surely he would have seen her go up with him when she went there weeks prior? I’m not entirely sure but like he was a douche for that move. I’m so glad Ty ripped into him for that one. I can’t get over the judgement of the doorman though. He treated her like trash!!!!!
I did find this book on TikTok but I loved it.
Edit: I also loved the everyday woman getting to love a pro athlete trope. She was an eighth grade teacher and he was a defence for a professional football team. (LA Wolves) Their baby was just one of the highlights too. I’m glad she got a chance to give a child the childhood she never got to have after 5 years old.
It was good! Sport romance (football). Pregnancy trope. No 3rd act breakup but definitely some tension.
Summary:
Lexi is an eight grade English teacher and Ty is a pro football player. They have a ONS and Ty is immediately hooked on Lexi because she doesn’t know who he is which is refreshing. The next morning Lexi leaves without telling him and he spends weeks trying to find her. Lexi finds out she’s pregnant. She goes to tell Ty and he’s over the moon happy because he was obsessed with Lexi. He starts pursuing her and they fall in love but Lexi shuts down Ty whenever he asks her about her childhood (she grew up in foster care). Lexi meets Ty’s family and they all love her except his older brother Tanner who refuses to meet her because he thinks she’s a gold digger. Eventually, Tanner reveals to the press that Lexi has a record as a teen that should have been expunged because she shoplifted. She looses her job and shuts down completely. She begins to believe that she’s unlovable even when Ty tells her he loves her. She believes that he’s only with her for the baby and starts acting like they’re roommates (she only eats the food from groceries she buys, doesn’t kiss him anymore). Lexi gives birth to Lana and is overjoyed. Tanner apologizes and try’s to make up for it by doing a sit down interview admitting to everything which takes the heat off Ty and Lexi. Epilogue is Ty and Lexi on their 1 year anniversary trip! HEA
This is Lexi and Ty’s story. Lexi and Ty have a ons. They both are obsessed with the other but Lexi left thinking nothing in her I was raised in foster care Mentality ipso facto I’m unloveable and Ty can’t find her. He majorly biffs it when she returns to tell him she’s pregnant but he does a good job of groveling to make up for it. Ty’s brother is a dick and thinks Lexi is a gold digger and Lexi’s work think she’s a floosy and the drama from those two story lines Carrie’s us through most of the book.
This was such a quick read and I’m a little bummed it wasn’t longer. There was such an opportunity for this story to be longer and I honestly was feeling it was a 2 star read until the third act drama with Ty’s brother. Gosh was that so devastating and while I’m glad they resolved the problem, I was kinda bummed with how quickly th e forgiveness was granted and how forgiving Lexi was. There also felt like there was zero resolution to Lexi’s principal being an utter ass, the press shitting on her shitty childhood and just general comeuppance for those who needed it. Was it realistic? Yes. But I don’t read a story about a famous nfl player falling in love after a one night stand and said girl getting pregnant and they magically have close to no issues Because said nfl player is the most understanding cinnamon roll around for me to not get some satisfaction from shitty people getting their shitty lives ruined.
Ty is a professional football player that has a hard time believing that women are with him for the right reasons. Lexi is a teacher who isn’t usually reckless and believes she is unlovable.
Ty is thrilled to meet Lexi at a club. She has no idea that he’s a professional football player. They have an undeniable chemistry. Thinking this could only be for a night, Lexi leaves while Ty is sleeping. Unbeknownst to them, their night together has lasting consequences.
After their night together, Ty can’t get Lexi out of his mind and spends hours searching for Lexi. He can’t believe his luck when Lexi shows up to break the news to him. Ty and Lexi work on building their relationship, but they have obstacles to overcome. Lexi has trust issues due to upbringing. Ty has a brother who thinks he is looking out for Ty, but is he really? After a few obstacles are thrown in their path, Ty and Lexi work everything out and get their HEA.
From the first chapter, I was hooked. It’s emotionally gripping, with the perfect amount of swoon and steam. Cadence has developed the perfect recipe for writing emotionally charged storylines with off the charts chemistry between characters with relatable issues. If you like sports romance, football romance, or accidental pregnancies, this is a must read. The rest of the LA Wolves Series was quickly added to my TBR list.
If you love the LA Wolves as I do, then Closing the Distance is a welcome read. Cadence Keys took a well-worn trope and wove endearing characters into it, who’s faults, weaknesses and worries are articulated in an artful way.
It’s the story of Tyler and Lexi, two people who were in denial of needing companionship and support until a fated evening where Lexi goes out of her comfort zone of putting up barriers; instead, allows herself to lose control with a man she had just met. Tyler, who is slightly jaded, expects Lexi to recognize him and is pleasantly surprised when she shows him no deference. This intrigues him. Along with their attraction, he tries to seek her out after their tryst because he likes her and the warmth she brings. Unfortunately, this one-night stand is just that-a one night stand.
Surprise! Lexi does seek him out, to tell him about the unexpected results of their evening together. Needless to say, the story unfolds as each deal with the pregnancy as well as their own ghosts. Tyler is much more giving and open as his family background fosters that interaction and communication. Lexi grew up in the foster care system, abused by a foster sibling. She is more reticent with her emotions, and holds back throughout the story.
Not to give away too much, this is the story of discovery and respect. A sweet read with a dose of spice. Well recommended.
Sports romance. One night stand. Unexpected pregnancy. Emotional scars. He falls first.
Lexi, a teacher, has had tragedy after tragedy growing up. She has closed herself off to everyone except her best friend Blaire. They let loose one night and this started a whole life changing experience for Lexi. She meets a handsome stranger, enjoys her night with him and then leaves. Later she finds out she has a surprise and needs to contact her stranger.
Ty, a professional athlete, tries to enjoy his evening at the club. Sees Lexi and realizes she doesn’t recognize him. He spends the night with her and wakes up without any further contact from Lexi. He knows there was a connection. He tries to look for her but in a city of millions that’s impossible. He considers hiring a PI to find her. Eight weeks later, Lexi goes back to Ty’s building to tell him about the pregnancy.
Throughout the book, Ty, although a little weary, is falling for Lexi as he tries to break her walls. Lexi has a hard time convincing herself this man is real. The story unfolds as they get to know each other, work on their issues and concentrate on the pregnancy.
This is the first book I’ve read from Cadence Keys. I'm glad I was able to read this because now I’m hooked and need to read the rest of LA Wolves’ Fierce Four series.
Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.
Lexi is an eighth grade English teacher. She lost her parents at a young age and ended up growing up in the foster care system. Life taught her to build her walls up and not to trust easily. She has only one friend, Blaire, and one night she goes out to club with her. She meets there the most handsome and hot man she ever saw.
Tyler is a professional football player. He was immediately captivated by Lexi. They spent an awesome night together, but Lexi left while he was sleeping. He tried to find her, but he almost given up hope when after six weeks he had no realists. His doorman informes him that he turned down a woman and he gets really pissed.
She shows up again the next day and drops a bomb on him. Their night together resulted in pregnancy. His first initial reaction was not very pleasant, but later he tried to prove to Lexi that he is in for a long haul, not only because of the baby. They overcame every bumps and obstacles on the road, and it was worth it. I loved their chemistry and passion. They were made for each other.
Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for an accidental pregnancy, football romance then you’re going to love it.
So this is four stars for the relationship and the angst/drama, that was what I wanted. But I dropped a star because one, obviously adopted people are not a monolith just like any group isn’t, and I could be wrong, but it read to me like this author hadn’t done any research on adoption. Overwhelmingly adopted people I know say that they want to know who their biological parents are, if for nothing else than because they can actually get an accurate medical history. And Lexi’s whole character is “I’ll be a single mother because I want this embryo to know it’s loved” and she doesn’t want to know if she is at risk of passing something down to her daughter, or of developing something that would make it so she couldn’t take care of her daughter? Idk, the way her backstory was handled just didn’t give “I spoke to adoptees before writing a story about an adoptee” which I don’t love. And then was it the CTE, why was the older brother such a dingus? Like I’m sorry I’m trying to be understanding but you are a grown ass man so you cannot solely blame her for your decisions. And then that you would go to the press and not your brother first? That man is trying to keep his one brain cell alive and not doing a good job about it either
This was a really good sports romance read. I have read a couple of books by Cadence Keys and they have all been well written with good plots. You don't have to read the previous books in the series to follow along but you will meet characters from the previous books.
This book follows Lexi and Tyler who met at a club and had a one night stand. Tyler felt an instant connection to Lexi and she did as well but based on her history she didn't want to set herself up for heartache. So she left in the middle of the night and Tyler couldn't find her back but also couldn't forget her. Once Lexi finds out she pregnant she goes back to let Tyler know. Things however don't go as planned when Tyler accuses her of setting him up...he is a professional football player so this isn't out of the realm of possibility. Once they both talk it out and come up with a plan things go better but Tyler wants more. As the two grow closer, there are other factors that try to tear them apart. Mainly Tyler's brother, Lexi's past and the trust both struggle with.
Overall a good read. Well written, good plot and the romance and drama you like in a series.
I've read a few of Cadence Keys' books, and each one has an exciting storyline and excellent writing. To follow along, you do not need to have read the other books in the series, but you will meet characters from them.
The story centers on Lexi and Tyler, a one-night encounter that occurred after they met at a club. Lexi and Tyler clicked right away, but because of her past, Lexi didn't want to put herself through unnecessary heartache. After learning that she is expecting, Lexi returns to inform Tyler. But when Tyler claims she's setting him up, things don't go as planned; after all, he plays football professionally, so it's not completely surprising. Things improve once they both discuss it and create a plan, but Tyler is still wanting more. As the two get closer, other forces strive to pull them apart. Primarily Tyler's brother, Lexi's history, and the trust issues they both face.
All in all, I really loved this book. If you're looking for an unexpected pregnancy and football romance, you'll enjoy it.
All the feels in all the best ways! You spend the whole book wrapped around Ty's finger as he delivers in the swoon department, loves with his whole heart, and absolutely slays in the soon to be dad department, mess ups, emotions, and all. But it's Lexi, terrified she's broken, scared to love, and fighting against the belief nothing good lasts, that fills this read with raw genuine emotion, that completely captures you heart and soul and that makes the ending the sweetest of all. I enjoyed this read so much. It's got spice, it's got swoon, but it definitely grabs you with Lexi and her past, she's the toughest woman, seen and been through a lot, but is still just the kindest most genuine person and totally deserves a happily ever after. And Ty sees how wonderful she is which is definitely what makes his drive to prove he loves her so perfect, and the way he defends her to his brother, absolute gold standard in sticking up for your girl. An all around great book with a ton of heart.
Lexi is an orphan and has trouble getting close to people. He’s a star footballer who is used to women using him. He sees her at the bar, realizes she doesn’t know who he is and is undeniably attracted to her. She wants to throw caution to the wind and decides to have a one night stand with him. He gets all the feels immediately - he wants to pursue her… only she leaves in the middle of the night and he doesn’t know how to contact her. He tries all kinds of ways to find her but can’t - he is so bestowed… then she realizes she’s pregnant. She goes to his place and he just wants to keep her. Ughh he is sooo into her. It takes her time to trust him. I cried a few times over her life and how she had a hard time letting others close. But after awhile his devotion got too sickening sweet and just very over the top… so I got annoyed.
Hea big proposal with all their friends and family
