I thought that Brandon Mull was done when Fablehaven ended. I tried his other series but was sadly disappointed. When I first saw sky raider, the first book in this series, I was apprehensive. Brandon mull was one of the people who raised me to be an author and one of the only people who I thought encouraged my daydreams. The first story gave me new hope and since then I have been waiting for the sequel with baited breath.
I was not disappointed.
Brandon Mull's writing was beautiful. His story was full of dreams from my childhood and plot twists that left me wailing at my roommate until she yelled at me. That is what a story should do! I closed my eyes while reading this story and I emerged in the kingdom of Elloweer (which I couldnt stop calling halloween, by the way). I was flying over buildings holding a jumping sword as slavers chased after me. I was drawing in fog while a horse trotted slowly beneath me.
I could forget for a little bit about the world around me and for that I can only commend Brandon Mull with every word I can think of.
As a young adult reading this, there are flaws. This book is not written for teenaged and young adults, this is a children's book. One of the greatest children books ever written, but still a children's book.
Don't go into this book expected complicated romantic plots or gore. That is not what you will find in this book. You will go into this book thinking you can predict the ending but will find yourself in the end forgetting about your pre-made assumptions and simply enjoying the ride.

Each kingdom (one per book) has a different type of magic. In this book’s kingdom, the magic is based on illusions. Cole continues his quest to find the other kids from his neighborhood, and Mira continues looking for her sisters. The two help each other and follow clues and sort of meander around and run into adventures.

There are lots of great adventures here that any Middle Grader should love (my 8th-grader is hooked), plus a torivor from the Beyonders series. I was never sure where the plot was heading, which can be a good or bad thing. It’s very creative and meant to be read as a light, semi-crazy adventure.

I switched between the audiobook and the physical book here. The audio narrator is the same as the Michael Vey books. He has an odd style of speaking sometimes.

Uwielbiam Mulla!

The Rogue Knight is the second book in the Five Kingdoms Series, the first book being Sky Raiders. I loved both books immensely. Brandon Mull did it again. He is an amazing author who I've enjoyed reading basically everything from. My favorite series from him is the Beyonders series, closely followed by Fablehaven and Candy Shop War. His books tend to have this strange characteristic of sounding absolutely terrible and goofy, at least until you start reading and engaging with the story.

The Cover:
It shows the Rogue Knight swinging at Cole and Mira with his sword. Meanwhile, Cole attempts to defend Mira and himself with his Jumping Sword which is glowing.

My Review:
I really enjoyed reading The Rogue Knight. I was constantly surprised by where the story was going and was completely caught off guard by one key plot twist. This novel was beautifully written, creative, and even very funny at times. It was a perfect sequel to Sky Raiders and picked up right where the last book left off. It was a fast-paced and easy read for all ages.

I loved the characters in this series for the most part. For example, I loved the returning characters (Mira, Cole, Jace, Twitch, etc.) even more during Rogue Knight but I found some of the new characters a little bit irritating. (However, my annoyance with them might not have been entirely with them but with the altering of the previous characters' dynamics.) Either way, there was plenty of character development that occurred during this book, as well as really amusing banter. Who doesn't love a good comeback? or some excessive sarcasm?

I loved all of the plot lines of The Rogue Knight! Seemingly unconnected circumstances would slowly connect themselves as I was reading, conquering up a puzzle board that slowly pieced itself together. Yet still a few pieces are missing. Even more reason to continue the series as it comes out. (The following book is Crystal Keepers out this March.)

The Rogue Knight was a great installment in the Five Kingdoms series, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has read Sky Raiders, which I would, in turn, recommend to everyone. Both were exciting reads with complex characters and lots of fun.

This is the second book in the Five Kingdoms series by Mull. There will be five books in this series. The third book will be titled, Crystal Keepers, and is scheduled to release in March 2015. This book was just as fantastic as the first book in this series. Previously I have read Mull’s Fablehaven series (which I loved) and his Beyonders series (which was okay).

Cole is still trapped in the Outskirts. In this book he journey with Mira, Twitch, and Jace to the kingdom of Elloweer in hopes of discovering what sort of trouble Mira’s sister, Honor, is in. Elloweer is a fascinating kingdom where the magic our group of adventurers used in the last book doesn’t work, but there is a whole new type of magic. There are rumors of an evil magic taking over towns in Elloween and also of the powerful Rogue Knight. The Rogue Knight has been challenging for control of different keeps throughout Elloweer, the big question is is he a friend or foe?

This was another fantastic middle grade fantasy adventure filled with interesting characters, spectacular world-building, and some very cool magic. I love how each book takes us to a new kingdom with different types of magic and different problems.

I also have really enjoyed the whole concept that characters with major shaping magic can have that magic take life outside of them (sounds confusing but you would have to read the book to understand).

Cole also makes some pretty big discoveries about his own magical ability, although he is just starting to scratch the surface of what he is capable of. He finally tracks down some of his friends in this book and finds out what they have been up to during their time in the Outskirts.

We meet a dazzling array of new characters. They are all very intriguing and interesting. I really like how we get both female and male characters that are heroic and brave, it makes this book a great read for boys and girls alike. Mull has always been very good about making his books friendly to both genders.

Overall this was an absolutely fantastic read. This book got me even more excited to explore the rest of the Five Kingdoms in future novels. This has been a wonderful series full of magic and adventure. This book is filled withboth wonderful characters and spectacular world-building. This whole series is highly recommended to fans of middle grade fantasy!

Man was this an action filled roller coaster! Rogue Knight picks up almost immediately after Sky Raiders and our cast of characters are headed to a new Kingdom in search of Honor, Mira's sister! Once again this story was go go go. I never was bored and always wanted to continue reading to find out what happens next. The magic system is ever changing as well which is always a plus. I love learning more and more about different magic systems. Like I said in my first review this magic system is so different then what I am used to reading. I'm so ready to continue on with this series! Brandon Mull has yet to disappoint.

Okay so school really said: no more reading for you. But it’s okay, I’m back and better than ever. Once again this book was a reread, but I still loved it all the same. I loved the characters and the world building. I cant wait to finish the rest of the series

Yes, it is truly a joy to be reading Brandon Mull's writing again. What a genius! So creative, and such a fantastic imagination, and yet his fictional literary worlds breathe a smooth and natural realism. His scenarios are marvelous, and his characters robust and compelling. He hasn't lost a thing but is well into his stride with this new series.

I oczywiście przygód!

Book 2 in any series is almost always superior to book one. All the basic information has been given, and now the story can really go places. I enjoyed the kingdom of Elloweer as a setting and the plot twists took me surprise. The confidence lounges were a nice touch, but my favorite detail was the crossover character from
Beyonders. It made perfect sense. Alas, I do not have the next book at my disposal, so I will have to wait to visit the kingdom of Zeropolis.

Warning Spoilers!!

Five kingdoms book two, The Rogue Knight, by Brandon mull is about a kid named Cole who travels to the Outskirts and looks for a way to get back home to Arizona. In book two, Mira and her friends Cole, Twitch, Jace, and now Joe are looking for Mira's older sister Honor who is somewhere in Elloweer. Once they reach Elloweer, the group runs into Ansel who is the slaver from the beginning of the series. After escaping him, they go to an illusion house to get disguises for Cole and Mira so they will be safe. As they are traveling, they get word that a special prisoner is being held at the prison in Elloweer. after they go through all the trouble of finding the prisoner, they figure out that it is actually Brady who made Dream World. To get Honor, they need to go to Trillian, which is a super powerful guy who captured her. So Cole, Jace, Mira, Twitch, and Joe go to rescue her. After that, they work as a team to destroy Morgassa who was wreaking havoc on Elloweer.

The main conflict of this story is, they need to find Honor, and defeat Morgassa. during the story, after they rescue Honor, they go searching for Callista, the Grand Shaper of Elloweer. Because they chose to do that instead of rushing strait into battle, they were able to get helpful insight on how to defeat Morgassa, and some awesome weapons to help them along there way. Minimus, one of the Rogue Knight's knights gets the choice to become disconnected to the Rogue Knight, so if anything happens to him, Minimus will stay the same. Because of that choice, when the Rogue Knight died, Minimus stayed the same and was able to protect everyone. After the battle with Morgassa, Sky chose to go see Trillian because Callista told her to when she died and passed on the Grand Shaper title to her. Sky is the person who gave Cole and Mira their disguises. Because of that choice, Sky was able to learn how to be the next Grand Shaper of Elloweer.

This book is amazing. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the Fable haven series, or just loves a good fantasy. This book is great because it is relatable to almost everyone. Missing your family at some point, being loyal to friends, making tough decisions, and much more. Over all this is a n amazing book, and would recommend it to everyone.

Five Kingdoms Book Two: The Rogue Knight
I gave this book a 4 partly because the first book really sucked me in and got me wanting to read the second. Really, this was a hard book for me to rate because sometimes it was a three star book and sometimes it was five. The Rogue Knight centers around a boy named Cole and his friends. In the first book, he was kidnapped from Earth and entered another universe; sold as a slave, he escaped and is now on the run with his friends trying to find the hidden princesses before the king catches them. I really liked the action in this book, and how on the way Cole finds people from his home world. It really brought a sense of reality to this strange world I was reading about--Dalton, Cole's friend, is found in this book and Cole feels that a piece of home was brought to this world with him. Another part I liked was when they had to do a competition, and try to find the second lost princess Honor. It was action packed, interesting, and gave a little story of each "player's" past. This was the part of the book that I would give a 5 star rating. However, in parts where the Rogue Knight's history was being told I got a little bored and this is a moment where I would give it a 3. I believe strongly in reading stories that show-not-tell, and so whenever I read up history in the books it gets boring for me.
I liked Mira's princess-like history, and how she had to hide away. She has a sense of humor and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. Jace, however, is a character who really intrigues me. He has a bitter history for slaves and yet he was one. His history is pretty mysterious, his personality sometimes snappy and irritating, but I like that about him because it's what makes him seem human.

A solid 4 stars. For me, this was definitely better than the first book, although part of that may be because I listened to the first book for the first half and I was not a fan of the narrator's. This time I didn't bother with the audiobook and just went straight to the kindle and I'm glad I did. The story is starting to flesh itself out more and you get to know more of the characters, as well as additional characters and how they fit into the whole story. The entire 5-book series is really one giant story, but there are resolutions to some parts of the story, including a big, bad, boss fight. I'm enjoying this series and although I didn't intend to jump right into the 3rd book, I'm going to jump right into the third book, lol. I'm glad I stuck with this as I am definitely starting to enjoy this!
